you, 7:00 a.m. on this saturday april 23. here's some of the stories we're working on for you on "action news," a south jersey family is from an he cannily searching for their beloved pets after a fire forces them out of their home overnight. also, an suv slams into a side of a home overnight causing substantial damage. rainy skies will clear up, we're tracking what's left of showers that moved through the area overnight. meteorologist chris sowers is outside to help you plan your day with a look at the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. chris is it going to be a washout? >> reporter: no, not at all, just a couple of hours of shower activity developing in the next half-hour or so from west to east across the viewing area, by

afternoon we see the sun return, skies brighten up and temperatures climb into the 70s. 59 degrees in pottstown. 59 in saint davids. quakertown, 60. martins creek, 61. chester, 61. glass borough up to 66 degrees. 61 in hammonton, vineland anne woodbine. 58 in atlantic city. 59 in surf city. satellite and radar, upper level low pressure system spin across the mason dixon line. we have to get that through before the skies begin to clear. that will takes place around the midday area. once it hits the coast west to east we'll see the cloud deck swing out to sea and the sunshine returns. double scan live, most of south jersey and delaware are in the clear. city of philadelphia, a couple of spritzes and sprinkles nothing heavy. western suburbs picking up showers. every now and then we pick up an embedded downpour.

you see that in berks and lancaster counties. the afternoon will look much, much better. the day planner, 67 degrees by 11:00 a.m., mostly cloudy, leftover showers. 1:00 p.m., same thing. 2:00 p.m. you'll notice peeks of sunshine and temperatures climbing into the low to mid 70s. 73 is the forecasted high for philadelphia today. much cooler i should say, excuse me down the shore, cloudy stuck in there shower activity most of the time this afternoon. turns warmer in the seven-day forecast. we could see the 80s return again, i'll have the details when i come right back. 7:02. the delaware valley is in the spotlight as candidates come to the area to woo voter support. bernie sanders on the wilmington waterfront, yesterday afternoon, matt o'donnell had the opportunity to talk with him one

on one. >> reporter: bernie sanders waded into philadelphia politics during an after a discussion in west philadelphia. he called mayor kenny's proposed soda tax regressive and unfair to the poor, but lauded the mayor for trying to expand the prekindergarten. who she would pay? progressive tack for the those who are -- tax for those who are more wealthy in philadelphia. >> reporter: yes. >> reporter: hillary won pennsylvania back in 2008 when she she first ran for president. why is bernie sanders campaigning in pennsylvania? bernie sanders has won 17 states in the election so far for the democratic nomination. we started off 60 points behind. thank you. >> reporter: mostly everyone had predict the hillary clinton would steam roll her way to the

their home in waterford township, camden county. the fire started at 2:30. firefighters put it out in a half-hour, the cause is being investigated. also new, an suv took a chunk out of a home at the jersey shore. the suv flipped over after hitting the corner of a home on school house road in egg harbor township. the driver got out with minor injuries. the people inside the home they are okay. people are talk -- police, rather, are talking to the driver and trying to figure out what caused the wreck. a community is struggling with the senseless death of a 16-year-old girl, amy joyner frances. blue balloons were released in memory of howard high school of

technology amy joyner frances. those who knew her is asking why this happened. >> my baby is gone, it hurts me to the core i never expected that i would have to be up here saying rest in peace to one of my friends. this is not a young lady involved in street activity. this is an honor roll student manager of wrestling team. whose mother and father were engaged in her life, as well as her siblings. funeral arrangements are pending for the 16-year-old student. penn state is getting rid of canning by 2019. it's when students stand on roads and ask drivers to drop donations into large cans. one student died and 6 others hurt in a crash connected to canning. on this stopped the practice after the accidents.

the afternoon looks all right, west of philadelphia, the jersey shore that's a different story you'll be locked in from start to finish. everyone sees the sun returning by full force tomorrow. the korean war memorial, the flags are blowing in the winds as the breezes pick up out of the west/northwest. we have showers approaching from the west in the western suburbs. there's malvern, exton, downing town and coatsville. some of it is coming down at a good clip. route 322 into honeybrook, we're picking up embedded downpours. pottstown, boyertown and green lane picking up wet weather this morning. that's the last batch, though, as that pulls through, things clear out 0 on the backside. 73 degrees is the high temperature we're shooting for today. this is a good 6 degrees above

the seasonal average. 82 degrees that was monday's high temperature in philadelphia. tuesday not tood bad, 78 degrees. thursday, 78 degrees, it was a warm week considering the average is 66. it's been a beautiful, beautiful week for the city of philadelphia. today is not too bad, it looks miserable this morning, by afternoon skies brighten up. 64. reading, 59. trenton, 62 on the boards in atlantic city showing 59. satellite and radar here's the system that we're watching here, this is the upper level low. this guy right there is responsible for the clouds and showers we're seeing out your window this morning. as it hits the coast it will take the cloud cover with it. there's the afternoon. you can see the clearing in buffalo and southern portions of canada. this will sweep the coast quickly here.

dry conditions return tomorrow. this is another huge area of high pressure. this will set up a nice monday around the delaware and lehigh valleys, as well. here's future tracker 6, this is a high resolution forecast model. this is the most detailed model out there. it shows leftover showers through late morning in the city of philadelphia. reintensifying as it crosses over the delaware valley river. by 1:00 p.m. clearing north and west, clouds lingering for the i-95 corridor. showers and heavier downpours for the jersey shore. all this will work out to sea during the course of the day. by 5:00 p.m. it's bright and sunny north and west, and completely cloudy for the jersey shore and sun and clouds for philadelphia. temperatures drop like a rock overnight tonight some in the 30s. full sunshine tomorrow. for the lehigh valley, morning clouds, a nice afternoon, 70 degrees forecasted high with a breeze. 64 for the jersey shore. lots of clouds throughout the day, morning showers which could link into the first part of the

>> reporter: they maybe called the golden years life for seniors is not all leisure and reflex. that reality can lead to depression. medical problems, children moving away. >> reporter: there's evidence that natural body changes can contribute to it. financial worries and loss of loved one are common triggers. the sign of depression in seniors is largely the same for other ages, being withdrawn, sad mood, sleeping too much or too little, but there are age differences. often times old folks present with confusion, memory problems. >> reporter: grief after losing a loved one is normal, but when it continues for 6 months or more or the senior wants to join that loved one, it's time for help. standards treatments and medication work 80% of the time.

however, the seniors can do a lot to prevent mental aliments to keep their bodies healthy. a diet high in fish and whole fruits and grains is good for a healthy brain. aerobic exercise 20 to 30 minutes a day can be just as effective as having an antidepressant. being social is part of staying well. >> reporter: and making older years closer to golden years. tamala edwards channel 6 "action news."

alleged destructive spree. he is accused of slashing 13 tires on 13 vehicles on christian street in south philadelphia. a neighbor heard commotion and saw the suspect and called police. officers say they found the crook hiding between parked cars with the knife next to him. he is being questioned and awaiting charges. there are no charges yet in the killing of a 16-year-old girl beaten to death inside of a wilmington school. as they wait for justice friends of amy joyner frances is honoring their friend. last night they held a vigil for her. dann cuellar was there. >> reporter: police have been questioning multiple automobile people in connection with the case, but nobody was arrested or charge. the case continues to bring grief among her friends and classmates. there continues to be unbelievable grief among students at the howard high

school of technology. my baby is gone and it hurts me to the core because i never expected that i have to be up here saying rest in peace to one of my friends. >> reporter: a close friend joined 100 others outside the school for another prayer vigil for 16-year-old amy joyner frances. she died after being assaulted by two other students in the school bathroom. the fatal assault, the first in the school in decades shocked many and around the world. this will wake delaware up, wilmington up, this will wake howard up, i don't know what will. >> reporter: the councilwoman was the spokesperson for the family. she was an honor roll student manager of the wrestling team, whose mother and father was engaged in her life as well as her siblings. >> reporter: her friends said she was known for breaking up

there. donald trump made a campaign stop in delaware yesterday. he held a rally at the delaware state fair grounds in harrington. thousands waited for hours to hear him talk in the arena. he focused on jobs and the military. we're going to take the military and make it so strong and so good. nobody will play with us. you look at what russia is doing. latest polls shows trump has a strong lead among delaware republicans. the first state is a winner take all primary state with 16 delegates up to grabs. ted cruz was in pennsylvania yesterday he drummed up support at a rally in scranton before heading to allentown where he talked to voters at a restaurant. ohio governor john kasich was in connecticut hosting a town hall meeting there that follows two stops in the delaware valley on

us, a biker plunged 200 feet down a mountain in laguna beach, california. youhis condition is not known. you can see them taking the individual to safety. meteorologist chris sowers has the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, it's a bit gray. there we go, it's gray. >> reporter: that's a bloomy shot you can see a live shot on the sand. we have low level clouds and patchy fog in some locations. some of us will see the sunshine returning by the afternoon.

it's not a wasted day. if you have a t ballgame, expect showers around, but clearing up in the afternoon. showers approaching from the northwest, we'll zoom into chester county, malvern, exton, downingtown and coatsville. you can see the s.w.a.t. of -- saght -- swath of moisture off to the northwest. it's in downingtown and honeybrook racing along 15 to 25 miles per hour in an easterly direction. it should get into the city in the next hour or so. and eventually work into the south jersey and the jersey shore. this is the last of it, though, pushing through harrisburg and pottstown, once it crosses the area from that point on, we'll see the skies brighten up a little bit and the return of sunshine. 64 degrees very warm. it's sticky, the dewpoint is close to 60. pressure 29.79 inches it's falling. winds out of the northwest at 5 miles per hour. most locations are in the 60s
