thunderstorm warning in effect. a watch means the potential is there for everybody. a storm that could be severe but the only area seeing the storm at this time is mount holly, medford lakes to chadds ford. winds gusting 60 miles per hour and the possibility of hail up to an inch size in diameter, that is close to a quarter. there it is south of browns mills and southeast or so of route 4. chads worth at 4:08 and dukes bridge at 4:10 and howardsville 4:20, about to passover route 70 and well kind of v line south and east of route 72. look for the possibility of hail and winds with that storm. the watch is up for the entire

to stay ahead of any changes before heading out. the weather is possibly a factor for voters heading to the polls, voters in five states are casting their ballots today that includes pennsylvania and delaware along with connecticut, reading and rhode island. there are several big local races in our area today. we begin with the race for the white house. bernie sanders spent the morning campaigning throughout philadelphia. he made several stops including an unscheduled visit to reading terminal. he will head to reading to watch the results come in. hillary clinton did not campaign in our area today but she will be back tonight and speak at a rally at the pennsylvania convention center. on the republican side none of the candidates wither in our region today. donald trump is ahead in the polls, he'll watch the results come in from trump tower in new york and john kasich and ted cruz are both in indiana.

and we are following local races including a hotly contested campaign for senate. we were with joe sestak as he cast his vote. he is neck and neck with katie mcginty and john fedderman is hoping to pull the upset. the winner will take on pat toomey in the fall. three democrats and two republicans are running to replace kathleen kane as attorney general. she decided not to seek re-election as she deals with the fallout from her criminal case, accused of leaking grand jury information to the media. there are several contested races today but none more contested than the second district. chaka fattah is running for re-election despite the charges against him. polls show that state senator dwight evans has the best chance

of beating fattah. trish hartman has a look at the turnout in the suburbs, live working the story in havertown. >> reporter: here at the fire company, i am told that the turnout is high for a primary, and that is so at other polling places we have visited. a steady stream of voters made their way into methodist church in springfield township. >> it's scary, i hope we get the good one in there. >> kasich i voted for yes. >> why did you vote for him? >> he seems more sensible than the rest of them. >> we spoke to democrats that were anxious. >> i voted for the one person that is qualified. and that is hillary clinton. >> voters were happy to see they were not alone at the polls, encouraged by those that showed

five people died in a fire in olney in 2003. and now they know who started the fire -- on purpose. chad pradelli has the update. >> reporter: yes, it's the 13-year-old cold case and police say that a killer of five is behind bars and has been captured. his name abdu rivera. police say that the 31-year-old is a career criminal. it was 2008 -- five people were killed in a fire. they were all killed. police say that john santiago an experienced boxer got into a fight with rivera and two of his friends earlier in the night at a club. and santiago got the better of him and looking for revenge they say that rivera went to the house and threw several molotov

cocktails through the window and front door trapping the family. >> detectives worked on the case and were not able to develop a suspect. and then july of 2014, two detectives, my best detectives reopened the case and followed leads and found witnesses. >> reporter: and there was $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction in this case. i am told that the reward money will be claimed. rivera was picked up not far from the crime scene, he faces life behind bars, as for santiago's family, a relative was contacted in florida and that relative was ecstatic about the arrest. >> thank you chad. it's time now for a first check of the "action news" traffic report today. let go live to matt pellman in

as we deal with threats in our area, parts of the country are dealing with storm systems that could bring tornado. brandi hitt is in oklahoma where people are batoning down the hatches. >> people in the heartland are on tornado watch bracing for severe weather. tornadoes and hail striking in tennessee and missouri. with the threat of a tornado outbreak breaking out in several states, putting more than 35 million people in the cross hairs. >> damaging wind and there is going to be large hail and unfortunately i think we'll see dodss of tornadoes on the ground. >> the threat is so great in this area known as tornado alley, schools are closed. the commercial jets pummeled by hail at kansas city airport. and the conditions on the roads are dangerous.

>> we want people to be careful and have a plan and be able to put it to use later today. >> reporter: everyone here is urged to follow tornado warnings and seek shelter immediately. brandi hitt, channel 6 "action news." the scandal at mitsubishi admits to cheating on fuel tests for the last 25 years, they said the problem applied to 600,000 vehicles but today's revelations sent mitsubishi reeling even furnish. the company has lost more than half of the market value since the start of the problem. they say the problem only applies to cars sold in japan but the u.s. government has launched its own investigation. now to a look at the closing numbers, not a lot of movement this tuesday. the dow is up 13 points and the nasdaq down 7.5 points and the

times, ocean gate 4:22. and seaside park 4:25. then particular area to chads worth and belmar. not much in the way of lightning with these downpours impanting not just 476 but the schuylkill expressway in the start of the rush hour, especially the conshohocken curve and gladwyne, you see the heaviest round of rain here. and this continues it's journey to the northern part of philadelphia and the lehigh valley south of allentown a couple of lightning strikes with this and this is dragging along i-78 with wet roadways there. and we'll see the pop-ups continuing at least through that 8:00 or 9:00 hour. it is extremely mild, 85 philadelphia as well address wilmington and dover, where we have seen rain and the numbers

have backed off to 70 for reading as well address trenton and mercer county. you see the yellow box popping up the severe thunderstorm watch, the potential is there through 9:00 through the viewing area for any storms that develop. we have a few more hours to see the storms drifting through. 52 philadelphia and 49 millville and 41 in dover, with the early storms and then the clouds linger through much of the overnight hours. future tracker 6 at 6:00 again no solid line passing through, so not everybody is going to get wet. scattered south of philadelphia at 6:00 and 8:30 it starts to push off the coast and the clouds lingering around philadelphia and as we get into wednesday morning, the front will only make it so far to the south so south of philadelphia tomorrow could be very cloudy while areas to the north are seeing sunshine than continues into the afternoon.

temperature-wise, where we see the sun tomorrow to the north, middle to upper 60s and upper 50s to 60s where the clouds linger but it does look dry tomorrow. location is key, as we get into the day tomorrow, there we are. 66 degrees with sunshine to the north and clouds to the south and 61 and it's very cool here on thursday with afternoon rain developing, it doesn't look severe and it looks like a good soaking thursday afternoon that could linger into friday with some showers around, dreary at 61 and then we break back into the sun in time for the weekend on saturday, with temperatures back to normal at 68 degrees. watch for the potential for the storms to continue to pop up around the region and turn to the severe side until 9:00 tonight. up next, a man breaks into the same building twice and steals the same item, what police say

he soundered when officered responded to his house in cincinnati and found his wife, joanne dead inside. hawkins is held on $3 million bond. philadelphia are looking for the man that broke into the same center city building advice. they gave us video from the building on 12th and locust. he broke in on march 11th and again on march 29th each time he stole bicycles from the base many. anyone that might recognize this man is asked to call police right away. rowan college at burlington county hosted the hero to hire summit today in mount laurel. the goal is to educate employers and eliminate the challenges that veterans face during the hiring process. politicians and activists spoke at the meeting and there are 128,000 veterans living in new

there is no solid line, but they are kind of peppered through the region from new jersey through parts of center city, the northern part of center city northeast philadelphia and back towards state college, and a severe thunderstorm warning in the viewing area until 9:00, the potential is there for storms to turn severe, and we have one severe thunderstorm warning this in effect for ocean county, until 5:15 p.m. winds are the threat near manahawkin and the north tip near barnegat light. as we look at this storm, 28 lightning strikes in the last 15 minutes, the most veer part of the storm is along the garden state parkway in barnegat and this heads to the east and the heaviest part of the storm stays north of harvey cedars and the tip of the island. we'll watch this rush through

vote for the candidates today. it's a closed election that, means they can only cast ballots for party they registered with by march 28th if you are a registered republican, you can only vote for the republicans. and if if you ayou are an indep you can only vote on the questions. when they arrived at polling places this morning here in east falls, voters in the 21st and 38th ward were forced to fill out paper ballots because the apartment building locked up the voting machines. >> they locked our machines in one of their rooms and we ended up breaking into a room to retrieve the machines so voters could vote. >> they say there are always scattered problems on election day, in the city of philadelphia

shooting happened. the son was rushed to the hop and the father was taken into custody by lease. we are learning more about a 18-year-old woman killed after a tractor trailer crushed her car on the pennsylvania turnpike. kelly o'brien was a freshman from burlington county new jersey and nora muchanic is live in moores town. >> a former classmate described kelly o'brien as a friendly, out going person. and that they are making personal notifications to her friends on campus. >> this is 18-year-old kelly o'brien of morristown, new jersey, killed on the turnpike monday afternoon. she was traveling eastbound when a car and tractor trailer came in contact, both vehicles veered to the side and hit an embankment and the trick or treat turned over and crashed

her car. >> she was such a nice person, i can't believe that. it's such a shame. prayers go out to her family and everybody that knows her. >> kelly was a 2015 graduate of morristown high school, the school district offered their condolences to the family, currently enrolled at arcadia university. they sent out a notification of her death this afternoon. our condolences and thoughts and prayers are with kelly's family and loved ones. we must support one another and the members of our community that were closest to kelly as we mourn the loss. the driver of the tractor trailer survived the crash. crews cleaned up 20,000 pounds of soap has wa being transported in the truck. >> the please note if ied kelly

about her death yesterday and her family declined to comment. >> thanks nora. flames engulfed and destroyed a delaware county home overnight. a viewer sent us this video of just how big that fire got at one point. investigators are trying to figure out what sparked the flames at 2:00 a.m. on dog wood lane in chadds ford. utility crews were called to the scene to shut off the gas lines because that gas was fueling the fire. there are no reports of injuries. philadelphia leaders are recognizing a special group of volunteers that let people overcome the unexpected. mayor jim kenney represented the red house, and accepted the honor. she is the ceo of the red cross eastern pennsylvania. in the past 18 years volunteers have helped 4300 families get back on their feet after fires and other disasters.

panicked when her daughter never crossed the 5-k finish live and got the police involved but the panic quickly turned into pride. i guess that little kid has a future in running. >> turning 3 into 13? amazing. lets get a check of the roads tonight. matt pellman is live in the traffic center. >> would say we are running more like 13 miles per hour instead of 3 miles per hour. that is good on the westbound lanes of the schuylkill, eastbound also backing up toward the vine street expressway. the good news here it's still dry and on other parts of the schuylkill in king of prussia it's wet, so maybe more like 3 miles per hour out there. you want to stick with the schuylkill instead of the bumpy kelly drive and you don't see traffic on it, because there is police activity on the mlk west river drive, shutting it down in

both directions. the bumpy kelly are your not so great options otherwise. there is a warehouse fire on packer by lawrence street seafood. and a crash by the dunkin' donuts near valley forge road and a pair of accidents on church and lions run and morris road starting to run slowly on the northeast extension with typical afternoon volume. on woodhaven road in east philadelphia, the eastbound lanes with a crash involving a truck taking out the left lane and a crash on limestone road that is a good spot to avoid. and southbound side a crash by mlk, just 9 miles per hour. 495 southbound is a better bet. we'll check it again in the 5:00 hour. meteorologist, adam joseph is coming up and tracking the

. all right back now to sky 6 hd, back to camden, new jersey, it's very dark in one area and very blue in the other, meteorologist, adam joseph, joins us now and it's part of pop-up storms. that is the perfect image to describe that. sunshine for one minute and look to the right and the storm cloud is over there and the variety of summer-like storms that pop out of nowhere s one town has it and the next the sun is out. most of us at the present time are missing out on any sort of rain or thunderstorm activity. at this point nothing severe but there are a couple of areas

kinds of a line from northern lancaster to chester county and delaware county and toward burlington county where we start to see some of these drifting through. severe thunderstorm warning was in effect until 5:15 for long beach island but from surf city to barnegat light, that storm has cleared and off the coast but still dealing with some lightning strikes even after the rain departs, you can see lightning striking 10 miles from the storm. most of the lightning is offshore and 19 lightning strike there's as we close closer towards center city philadelphia, the sun is out and we are aiming that camera towards new jersey and that is the area, the dark clouds with passing downpours and lightning with this. and getting wet on roadways, especially along route 70 here in medford and as we head farther to the west another area of thunderstorm now blossoming

near newtown square and route 3 and lima that is drifting but not severe and some areas getting wet this afternoon. as we look at temperatures where we have seen the rain it's cool, 70 in trenton and allentown 73 where we haven't seen the rain, temperatures are still well into the middle 80s feeling very summer like out there this afternoon. severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 9:00 any storms could turn severe until that time and more developing to the north and west and still have to drift through parts of our area. a gusty thunderstorm in parts, 44 to 51 degrees, high pressure is trying to wedge in here on your wednesday. so the farther north you are the more sun and south of philadelphia tomorrow and clouds linger and 67 degrees and low pressure is bringing severe weather in the midsection of the country and it arrives here on
