some people are waking up this morning to find their cars were towed from broad street. a fleet of city trucks cleared vehicles at broad and hunting park avenue in nicetown. the cars needed to be out of the way for the 40,000 runners taking part in the ten miler. the cars were taken to the philadelphia parking authority parking lot. the family of amy joyner-francis will receive visitors as they mourn the teenager who lost her life after a beating at school. the 16-year-old died april 21. people who knew and loved her may offer their condolence at the st. paul united american methodist church on north market street in wilmington. amy joyner-francis was assaulted at howard high school of technology. three female students were suspended after the fight. charges have not been announced. police say they are working on the investigation. closing arguments are expected to happen in the murder

trial of a 20-year-old who was accused in the death of millersville university freshman carlie hall. the 18-year-old was found dead in her dorm 2015. friday an expert will testify that she died of a massive nose bleed do to a previous fracture of her eye socket that flooded her lungs. people in camden took to the streets to call for peace. the peace in the streets march was held yesterday. marchers carried a casket to represent those killed in the city of camden this year. 7 people lost their lives to violence in april alone. members of two rail union have rejected a tentative deal that averted new jersey transit strike. union representing conductors and locomotive engineers to not

anybody spirits here of we have smiling faces and cheering members of the crowd at broad and washington. they have their ponchos and determined faces they are waving and cheering and heading down broad street. you might think the last thing anybody needs is more water, you would be wrong. we're at 6abc doing our part to keep the runners hydrated. you get a cup of water, there's nora and don and john and a bunch of folks from 6abc making sure people are hydrated and they are cheering for all the runners. [horn blows]. race kicked off at 8:00 a.m. in olney, 40,000 runners off the starting line making their way down broad street to the navy yard in the ten miler. it is a soggy ten miler. you can hear the squishy sneakers from the runners.

good morning, it is 10:00 a.m., sunday, may 1. in the news we have our winners, the first people of the broad street run have crossed the finish line we're live with an update on the race. they are running in the rain, we're tracking the soggy race as the runners make their way to the navy yard. meteorologist chris sowers is at the "action news" big board with more. >> reporter: we have rounds of steady heavy rain pushing through. that's round number two pushing through now. this is round number 3 that will swing through 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. once the third and final round pulls through during the course of the afternoon we'll see cloudy skies and leftover showers, as you can see we have several hours to go. future tracker showing we'll go

hour by hour, philadelphia points south and west, south jersey and delaware seeing moderate to heavy rain at that point. lunchtime same thing most of the area. by 1:00 p.m., all of new jersey and delaware at that point seeing heavier showers and downpours. and then by 2:00 p.m. note how the western suburbs precipitation is starting to shut off at that point, but it's raining pretty good across south jersey and delaware. the flavor of the day is steady rain and soaking showers, leftover showers, otherwise it's cloth you cloudy and damp and chilly and raw. 56 degrees by 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m., 9:00 p.m., 10:00 p.m. we'll see cloudy conditions. most of the rain will be gone, maybe leftover patchy drizzle and temperatures in the low to mid 50s, i hope you like the rain because we've got a lot of it. monday and tuesday, 60% chance both days and wednesday and thursday, 30%.

42 second mile pace. the race kicked off at 8:00 a.m. in olney, 40,000 runners off the starting line. this race is always rain or shine. unfortunately the only shine we're seeing is coming from the fleets themselves. with all -- athletes themselves, with all the rain, organizers added extra tents, crews cleared drains to cut you on on potential flooding and the spectators are still coming out and they are cheering on extra loud. i'm cheering on my boy friend and i have friends in college who are running i wanted to show my support. >> reporter: when you saw the rain did you want to stay in bed? i said if they are willing to run in the rain i can come

out and cheer them on. >> reporter: they are making their way down broad and washington, hello everybody, good job. you see people all different running levels. some are first timers and some have done this for years. whew whew on broad street. katherine scott channel 6 "action news." be careful, katherine, there are number of detours in place due to the broad street run. there are dozens of bus routes including route 16 bus. 12 express broad street line trains are running through the race with stops at olney transportation center and fern rock transportation center. of course we have a link to the information about the detours at 6abc.com. some people are finding this morning that their cars were towed from broad street. a fleet of city tow trucks cleared vehicles that were parked at north broad near hunting park avenue in nicetown. the cars needed to be out of the way for the 40,000 runners take

part in the ten miler. the car was taken to the nearest parking authority parking lot. that is where owners can retrieve their vehicles. 10:06. family and friends will gather to pay final respects to the student kill in wilmington last week. 16-year-old amy joyner-francis died after being brutally beaten inside her high school. trish hartman joins inside the satellite center, trish i'm sure many will want to pay their respects today. >> reporter: people can visit tonight 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., st. paul on market street in wilmington. many are coming to terms with the teen's violent death as police continue to investigate. outside howard high school of technology in wilmington you'll find a memorial of stuffed animals and flowers, they stand in memory of amy joyner-francis who died on thursday, april 21 after being assaulted inside a girl's bathroom.

amy was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. immediately after the death three female students were suspended. they are considered persons of interest, but no charges have been filed. it hurts me to the core because i never expected that i would have to be up here to say rest in peace to one of my friends. >> reporter: the day after her death, students returned to school and talked to students and prayer vigil was held where blue balloons were released amy's favorite color. several town hall meetings were held at the school for concerned parents where police say they hope to file charges within days. on friday a week after amy's death police held a news conference to explain that the investigation will take more time than originally thought. chief said thousands of pages of data need to be poured over along with interviews. we have an obligation to

amy's family and the classmates at howard high school and the community and present information to the public that is based on on facts and not rumors. >> reporter: a spokesperson said amy was a sophomore who was a honor role student and manager of the wrestling team. after tonight's visitation there will be no more requests accepted by her family. trish hartman channel 6 "action news." the murder trial of a 20-year-old trial continues accused of the death of carlie hall. friday a defense expert will testify that she died of a massive nose bleed and blood flooded her lungs. prosecution is seeking a murder

conviction. many gathered in the streets in camden peace in the street march was held yesterday to represent the city of people killed in the year. seven people lost their lives to violence in a month alone. a cafe on the university of pittsburgh is closed after 40 people got sick. monday and tuesday students who ate at the cafe along with the employees came down with nausea and vomiting and diarrhea i can't. they posted a notice saying they were removing certain items from the menu. so far investigators have not discovered the exact cause of the problem. from our new jersey newsroom members of two rail unions have rejected a tentative deal that averted a new jersey
