where "action news" reporter walter perez is live with all the details. walter. >> reporter: hey, guys. the scene has since been cleared here at the intersection of shillington road and spone road in spring township berks county. the kids were all middle schoolers but we're happy to report that while several were taken to the hospital no serious injuries to report. it happened right around 2:30 this afternoon. the bus filled with 36 middle school students from the wilson school district were returning from a field trip. investigators say that's when this vehicle ran into the rear of the school bus as it crossed the intersection of shillington road and spone road in spring township berks county. 17 of the students were taken to nearby hospitals but we're told none of the students was seriously injured. the driver of the car was also taken to the hospital. no word tonight on that person's condition. emergency crews did set up a triage area several feet away from the accident scene so the students could be evaluated by

medical personnel. the school superintendent rudy ruth says most of those kids only suffered from a case of rattled nerves. >> when you have an accident, it's -- it's unnerving for anyone an adult let alone middle school kids. you get shaken up. we're communicating with the parents talking with the kids and we had them initially checked out by medical professionals here at the township building and then anyone that we were advised to have checked out further by either reading hospital or saint joe's we did that. >> reporter: now, the children on board that bus were not hospitalized have since been sent home with their parents. police are still interviewing witnesses so at this hour still no word who was at fault. reporting live from spring township, berks county, walter perez channel6 "action news." >> walter, thank you. developing right now police are looking for a car after an apparent hit and run in elsmere, new castle county. at least five people were hurt in the crash which happened at kirkwood highway and south dupont road about two hours ago. officials say three cars were involved in the crash.

two stayed at the scene. those hurt were taken to a nearby hospital and all are expected to be okay. right now the delaware valley's getting a reprieve from a wet stretch of weather but this afternoon's gloom is expected to give way to heavy rain overnight. >> a few thunderstorms could be on the way as well so you need find your umbrellas. meteorologist cecily tynan at the big board with the first look at the accuweather forecast. hi, cecily. >> hi, monica and rick. your umbrellas are going to be your best friend this week. we have a lot of unsettled weather on the way. double scan live showing right now we're dry, clouds even breaking for sunshine. if you look to the southwest you can see showers and thunderstorms moving up to the northeast and they do have have severe thunderstorm watches in effect in parts of virginia and west virginia. they're in the warm sector of the system. rich respond 82, washington, d.c. is 79. we're quite a bit cooler, 63 degrees and again we are finally seeing some sunshine but future tracker showing by 11 o'clock, we've got a batch

of some steady rain moving in and this will be rolling through in the overnight hours and will be affecting the morning commute. so, the key timing, we could have a few showers before 11:00 around 9:00 or 10:00 but really the heaviest will be between 11 o'clock tonight and 8 o'clock tomorrow morning. looking at a period of steady rain with the potential for embedded thunderstorm. south of philadelphia where it got warmer today and it's going to be a soaker. rainfall about three-quarters of an inch to an inch and a quarter and again it will slow down the morning commute and unfortunately i am tracking more unsettled weather on the way. more details on that and the timing coming up in the full accuweather forecast. monica. >> thank you cecily. from our new jersey news room tonight atlantic city has avoided yet another financial disaster thanks to a $1.8 million check. city officials warn a catastrophe is looming unless state lawmakers come up with a compromise.

john is live with more on that dire situation. >> reporter: we're happy to report today that atlantic city did not make history, the historic possibility would have been if it defaulted on that bond payment, it the not. the mayor said the city is literally running on empty as far as its finances are concerned but there was apparently enough in the tank to make that debt payment. >> as of 10 o'clock this morning we had wired a transfer of $1.8 million which was our bond payment to by end of day today. >> reporter: mayor don guardian said a default would make a bad situation worse. >> we realize that not making the bond would be the first time since 1932 when fort lee declared bankruptcy and that it would have a very negative effect on atlantic city. >> reporter: one negative effect a message to those still providing credit for essentials the city needs. >> it would put everybody else on notice for the city of atlantic city there we play not be making payments so i don't want to have to worry that we have to have advance cash to pay for fuel and utilities. >> reporter: with some taxes

due now in early may, guardian said the city should have enough money to make this month's payroll for its employees due this friday and school taxes due the 15th. he and the council president marty small though again blasted a proposed state takeover championed by governor christie and others saying it would overnighter negotiated union contracts and violate the civil rights of locals. >> as i told you i'm not commenting any more on the mayor's statements. the mayor spends his time running his city. if he had he wouldn't have run it into that the ground and had it out of money by may tenth. >> reporter: doesn't sound as if the governor is softening his position on the situation here of a takeover or nothing at all. as for atlantic city's immediate financial situation the mayor said it should be able to meet all its

obligations in may if people and corporations pay their taxes that are due as for june he wasn't so certain as to how things would play out. we'll just have to wait and see. live in atlantic city, john rawlins channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you, john. starting next school year new jersey governor christie will require all of the state's public schools to test for lead in the water. he says the results will be publicized and parents will be notified immediately if lead is detected. if there is lead it will be up to the school district to come up with a solution like in camden students have used bottled water since lead was detected there back in 2002. christie will ask state lawmakers for $10 million to pay for the testing. >> jury selection began today in the trial of pennsylvania congressman chaka fattah. fattah is facing racketeering corruption taking brakes and misusing campaign funds. testimony won't begin until may 16. fattah was seeking a 12th term

in congress but lost the primary last week to state lawmaker dwight evans. in central pennsylvania former penn state assistant football coach jerry sandusky was back in court four years after he was found guilty on dozens of sexual abuse counts he continues his effort to get those convictions drone out. channel6 "action news." >> philadelphia police have identified two victims in yesterday's deadly car crash in the city's east falls section. it happened about 4:00 p.m. on henry avenue. according to officers there were seven people in the car. 20-year-old zaire ross wilson and six-year-old eric barksdale perez were killed. two other women and three other children survived. according to police, no one was wearing a seat belt aside from the infant strapped in a car seat. the cause of that crash is still under investigation. >> ♪ >> new at 5:00 now a teacher in montgomery county has been arrested and charged after accusations she had sex with a male high school student. 39-year-old rose limuli of lansdale had her bail set at $50,000 and is not allowed to have any contact with the alleged victim or other students. police say limuli had been having inappropriate sexual relationship with the student since december 2015. the school district

superintendent released a statement saying limuli has been suspended while the charges are pending and that a background check when she was hired gave no indication of any previous criminal behavior. a recent drug takeback day in montgomery county brought in nearly 3 tons of unwanted medication. and that was a record. these photos show just some of the drugs collected back on april 30th. there were more than 5,000 pounds of prescriptions and over-the-counter medications collected. that's 54 percent more than the year before. and officials say getting these drugs out of medicine cabinets safely is an important step in the fight against drugs in the community. >> time right now for a check of that "action news" traffic report monday night. >> matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center. hey matt how was the weekend. >> weekend was great but this this afternoon's commute is a little bit of a pill on some front. transit front seeing 20 minute delays across-the-board on the septa regional rails this afternoon because of signal problems. if you ride the ac rail line for new jersey transit it's

>> time for accuweather at the "action news" big board. >> let's bring it over meteorologist cecily tynan with more on our wet and dreary forecast but the sun mike peaking out. >> exactly. we're finally seeing a bit of sunshine. i love this shot from sky6 atlantic city and it really shows how the sun breaking through the clouds can warm up the land and that reallier roads the clouds but it doesn't do there with the water. the sun cannot warm up water like the land so you can see that we still have the low clouds hanging right along the beach and right along the water but we're finally seeing some sunshine and that's having a big impact on temperatures. we're clearing things out from the south to the north. so, dover it's warm, it's 73. cape may point though, right along that water, the ocean influence, only 56. philadelphia 63 and allentown

where we still have pretty good cloud cover, only 61 degrees. satellite6 along with action radar showing finally we're seeing some breaks in the clouds. if you look to the south, though, they have been in the warm sector in northern virginia and west virginia and they do have severe thunderstorm watches posted as we get a complex of showers and thunderstorms pushing up to the northeast and this will be arriving later on tonight and it will have a big impact on your morning commute. fortunately since we've been holding onto the clouds much of the day, the severe storm prediction center has now pushed that risk of severe weather that actually included parts of delaware and south jersey earlier today. they pushed it well down to the south so that means although we could get a rumble of thunder overnight, a risk of severe weather is pretty low. tonight though temperatures not low at all. pretty warm. 55 trees in philadelphia. allentown 51, reading 52, cape may 54 but that heavy rain arriving later on tonight by about 11 o'clock and then overnight some showers and thunderstorms as well.

so future tracker showing around 10 o'clock could have a few showers breaking out, mainly south of philadelphia but the radar really fills in as we head around 1 o'clock and this is when you could hear a rumble of thunder kind of waking you up. 6 o'clock in the morning, some heavy rain affecting the early part of the morning commute and even around 9 o'clock, some showers hanging on but then the showers lift and the remainder of the day lots of clouds occasional drizzle but the heavy weather will be out of here. unfortunately for wednesday, thursday and friday we have an upper level low so that will keep us unsettled. five day forecast morning rain afternoon clouds, occasional showers not widespread rain all day long. temperatures only in the 60's but saturday it's about time, partly sunny and warmer, 74 degrees. will we hold that for mother's day? meteorologist adam joseph will have that answer coming up in the seven-day forecast. >> all right, got to have a nice day for mother's day. >> that would be nice.

6abc.com. in other news tonight we have an update to a story we first told you about on friday on "action news." philadelphia police say they've arrested the gunman suspected in a crash in point breeze. this is 26-year-old tysheed davis. philadelphia police say he's the person who shot and killed 26-year-old jessie williams insides of this jeep grand cherokee. chopper six was over the scene. investigators say davis shot williams and williams shot back hitting davis in the finger. two guns were recovered from the scene. davis is now charged with murder and aggravated assault. a driver remains in the hospital tonight with several injuries because of this crash in mayfair. happened along frankford avenue near tyson avenue just before 6:30 this morning. still not clear what led up to the crash but one car was damaged so severely that the driver had to be cut out of it. that person was that rushed to the hospital. no one else was hurt. traffic was diverted from the

area while crews cleared the scene. >> this is the scene in the 200 block of wilson street in pottstown. investigators say a 13-year-old man was behind the wheel when the car somehow went out of control and hit the house. the owners were inside of the home at the time. they tell "action news" they heard a loud boom and ran outside to see what happened. rescuers had to cut the driver and his female passenger out of the car. both are expected to be okay. no one in the home was hurt. bensalem police detectives say they have arrested the driver who slammed his car into a house and ran off last month. matthew markel is accused of driving his suv 104 miles an hour along knights road. authorities say he hit a grassy embankment bounced off a shed and then into a house on the 2200 block of monroe avenue. the car narrowly missed a woman sleeping downstairs. luckily slaw not hurt. markel is charged with felony criminal mischief reckless endangerment and careless

driving. >> the driver charged with causing a deadly head on crash on the roosevelt boulevard back in 2013 pled guilty today. robin knight admitted she was driving drunk and going the wrong way along the boulevard back on september 29th. knight's car collided with a minivan carrying a mother her husband and three-year-old child. althea taylor was killed. knight was not arrested until 17 months after the crash. she'll be sentenced in july. philadelphia police are asking for help tracking down the suspected robber. investigators say he will a weapon and threatened to kill two workers at the game stop on the 5300 block of chew avenue in germantown. they followed his demand and gave him cash from the registers. this all happened last friday around 11 o'clock in the morning. the suspect covered his face with a mask. if you recognize his outfit or have any clues, police would like to hear from you right away. from our new jersey news room tonight, the coast guard rescued a fisherman off the coast of atlantic city. ly this was the view yesterday as an a.c. based coast guard

crew arrived in their chopper. the man fell ill while on a boat from massachusetts apparently. the boat was sailing 60 miles southeast of atlantic city. a crew mate radioed for help. the coast guard got him to treatment at the hospital. they made their way through rain to get there. >> police say a robber pulled off two heists using his fingers in north philadelphia but left police a pretty good clue. a surveillance camera captured clear images of the alleged bandit's face. police say he stuck up behind two customers at the bp gas station on ridge avenue and put his fingers in their back pretending to hold a gun and that got them to hand over money. if you see this man police would like to hear from you. a philadelphia police officer who was shot in the line of duty more than two years ago returned to the job today. twenty-fifth police district captain michael cram posted his photo on twitter of officer edward davis davies and his son today. davies is holding a sign that

says 993 days first day back. he was shot in feltonville. the shooter is spending the next 60 years behind bars. the officer was in the hospital for more than a month and had to have one of his kidneys removed but looks like he's ready to get back to work and welcome back to him. >> good for him. >> all right. back we go to the trappe traffic situation tonight. matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center with an update. >> now he's ready to get back home this evening and for people like him trying to get back home this evening we've got some backups along 95 northbound side but it's just normal stuff coming out of center city about an eight minute delay on that travel time. southbound no delay this afternoon. helps us out that there are no events in south philadelphia. that keeps the traffic moving a little bit better than many of the days that we saw last week. couple accidents in suburban chest county. one in uwchlan township on devon drive. also one along quarry road between the 30 bypass and business 30. and there are a pair of crashes in towamencin township.

>> investigators trying to figure out what sparked a massive fire that destroyed an historic church new yor new yor. flames could be seen can coming from the 160-year-old serbian cathedral of saint sava around 7 o'clock last evening. hours earlier parishioners celebrated orthodox easter in the church. four firefighters and a church groundskeeper suffered minor injuries. today marks five years since osama bin laden was killed by u.s. special forces in pakistan. in an interview airing tonight president obama said he entered the situation room just in time to see one of the blackhawk helicopters hit the ground at bin laden's compound. no one was seriously injured in the soft crash landing and the navy seals were able to find and kill the al-qaeda leader. the president said if the u.s. had not launched the raid then bin laden may have gotten away.

there. that is invection fog that is moving in from the ocean as some sunshine is returning at the shore interacting with that cold ocean bringing in the fog layer and i promise you there's a little tower right in the middle right part of your screen trying to peak over some of that fog layer. as we take a look at the temperatures right now, 61 degrees in warrington, left town. this is where the clouds have been lingering a few breaks of sun developing but where the sun has returned temperatures a little warmer, 67 new holland 65 in coatesville and as we head to the south the boardwalk right now it is just 56 degrees, 58 in surf city but look at vineland woodbine as well as smyrna and dover in the 70's. again with that warmer more humid air beginning to return from the south and west. there is a little break but because of that break you see all these severe thunderstorm watches popping up north carolina virginia, west virginia. not going to see the severe weather but all this rain will be pulling in overnight lasting through the morning

commute tomorrow with a rumble of thunder likely. as we look at future tracker 10 o'clock tonight, some of that rain starting to push up into center city. it overspreads the region and quickly turns heavy at times right around that midnight hour and we're looking at about three-quarters to an inch and a quarter in many locations and again, this is the time we could get woken up by a flash of lightning or the crack of thunder. that continues for the morning rush tomorrow, at least the heaviest part of the morning rush we'll see the heaviest rain so that could really slow you down on tuesday morning and then the steadier rain lift out mid to late morning but the clouds are going to lag into the afternoon tomorrow at 5 o'clock and there could be a area of mist or drizzle in the afternoon but pretty dreary from start to finish on your tuesday. so morning rain giving way to afternoon clouds, a little bit of drizzle, a high temperature of 64 as low pressure passes by. another area of low pressure slowly drifts to our south on wednesday while a new low drops from canada and the

spring township that's in berks county. that's how many students were on a bus, a school bus that was rear-ended by a car. 17 students were transported to the hospital as was the driver of the car. "action news" reporter walter perez is live at the scene and walter, what's the latest there? >> reporter: well, jim, the scene has since been cleared here at the intersection of shillington road and spohn road in spring township berks county. all the kids on board that bus were middle schoolers but we're happy to report that though several children were taken to the hospital no serious injuries have been reported. it was right around 2:30 this afternoon when it happened. the wilson school district bus filled with 34 students, two adults and a driver was returning from a field trip. investigators say that's when this vehicle ran into the rear of the bus as it crossed the intersection of shillington road and spohn road in spring township berks county. 17 of those students were taken to nearby hospitals and we're told the driver of the
