a train slammed on to the track. that crash disrupted service on the new jersey river line. john rawlins live on the scene with the very latest. >> reporter: good afternoon sar remarks let me set the scene here we are on broad street in riverton and behind me is the car, the station wagon struck by the train and to the left is the river line unit. and moving to the left here we see the crossing at main street that is where the accident occurred. they are referring all questions to new jersey transit. witnesses say though it was about 11:30 when the light rail train struck the older model, gold station wagon. there were do people in that station wagon, an older couple

from this small town. >> we were on the train and heard a big thug on the jar and it shook everyone up. and we look out the window and a mercedes benz was stuck on the river line. is he lucky to be alive and it was a serious incident and you can only attribute that to the miracle of god. >> i turned around and heard someone crying and a loud bang and a screeching sound and turned around to see a car being pushed up the tracks. it looks in pretty bad shape. >> we were really scared and freaking out. i mean really scare. >> happening right from front of us. >> you recognized the people in the car. >> yes.

>> regulars? >> yes. >> they come here all the time. it makes us sad and upset. >> no official word on the extent of the injuries, just waiting for someone in charge to say something about that. the train southbound as we say is slowing down as it was about to make a stop here at riverton, that is an advantage in this particular situation and the main street crossing line is operating and the flashing lights are on and the arm is down, we are trying to figure out why the car went behind or around the signals at that time. they are getting ready to move the car and getting more of what happens here later in the day. live in riverton, john rawlins, channel 6 "action news." >> we are also following the ongoing search for a man that escaped from a new jersey prison and tuesday. hall is live from barnegat township where police gave us an update on the manhunt. >> reporter: at this point police cannot confirm that the suspect is in the area but they are operating on the assumption that he is and will not stop working until he is captured. the frantic continues for an escaped new jersey inmate arthur buckles, he escaped from the state prison in hammonton on tuesday. >> we are following tips and leads and nothing has developed. >> they believe he ditched a stolen truck in a cvs parking lot. schools are open but on high alert. >> i'm a nervous wreck with this guy around and my kids don't want to go to school. i had to lie and say they caught

him. >> prison workers noticed buckle was missing when they did a count on tuesday. he was serving a sentence for aggravated assault and we learn that buckle was charged with murder and sentenced in 1996 and sentenced on a lesser charge of manslaughter. he would have been eligible for parole on may 21st. they are urging him to surrender. >> unless mr. buckle is captured or we have evidence he is someplace else other than barnegat, this operation will continue with the mission being capture mr. buckle and keep the residents safe. >> back out live, police are asking the public to be on alert. and they are saying to keep their doors locked and make sure the vehicles are secure and if you see anything suspicious, and see the 38-year-old suspect you should call police. gray hall, channel 6 "action

news." >> thank you. a car crash that caused a traffic nightmare across the northeast extension along the turnpike is cleared. chopper 6 hd was over the massive backup. police say there was a crash on 476 this morning and drivers were told to take route 63 east and back to the turnpike in fort washington. the accident is cleared but traffic is only getting by at reduced speeds. crews are working to fix a water main break that created a big mess in south philadelphia. it happened this morning at 53rd street. a car dipped into a sinkhole that started a chain reaction underground and it even caused part of the road to buckle. annie mccormick will have more on this story coming up in the next half hour.

accuweather says we are getting closer to the light at the end of the tunnel. it's a mainly cloudy and cool and little rain out there. i have picked up a shower that is going up the border over northern chester county and northern montgomery county. this is on the move on light, it won't last very long. there is a couple of sprinkles down in delaware county and newcastle, expecting a dry day and cool. the bigger issue is out to the west. the precipitation is pinwheeling around that, and you can spot the lows and the cloud cover and rain. this is so far west that the rain is circulating to the southwest and not a problem for us. tomorrow it will migrate to the east coast and then this batch of rain is coming up through our neck of the woods. today cloudy and cool and mainly dry and tomorrow we get a period of day starting quickly in the morning and going mid-afternoon

where it's pretty darn wet around here. in the meantime we have cloud cover aplenty, there might be a break or two here or there, but generally speaking we can't rule out a sprinkle or shower this afternoon. the temperatures are making it a coat worthy day. 55 degrees in philadelphia. 55 in allentown right now, saw in millville. and 52 in wilmington and 50 on the nose in cape may. plus, there is a breeze dropping down out of the north, when you head outside hunch your shoulders, zip up and it's cloudy and cool. today's high only a degree or so better than what we are right now, we'll go for 56 and not surprised if we hit 57 or so. it will feel the same and be well below the average high of 71. things are gradually better and i'll have more on the rain and the turn around for saturday and sunday and next week. sara that is all coming up. >> thank you david.

new video appears to show the gun battle that killed a navy seal in iraq. officer charles keating was shot and killed on tuesday. he and his team were trying to save another team of troops. he was brought to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. during the 16 hour battle u.s. forces killed over 50 fighters. the blaze in canada is burning out of control. nearly 90,000 residents were forced to abandon their belongings and there is only one highway ta owe leads out of town and residents were forced to flee outside of a wall of flames. it has destroyed over 1600 buildings and properties. and passengers got a scare

meteorologist, david murphy now with a check of the accuweather forecast. i guess we won't see sunshine until mothers day. >> saturday looks overcast but a chance of sunny breaks. >> that is my mothers day gift. >> nice rick. am i giving her that? >> stormtracker 6 live double scan shows there is no major rain out there, although if we go closer i am catching one shower through pottstown, if you see this on your windshield it won't last longer. don't worry it won't be long. taking a look outside. we have cloudy skies over the ben franklin bridge, probably only seeing a couple of spotty showers and dry most of the time, take a look at we are at

55 degrees and the winds out of the northeast at 12 miles per hour that is aombination that requires a jacket. maybe a couple of sprinkles and showers between now and 5:30. pretty much more of the same until 11:00. adam and cecily may have something to show you, and may be some breaks in the clouds tonight. but cloudy and on the damp side. the lehigh valley we'll go for spotty drizzle and 55 is the high and if you see rain it won't last all that long. down the shore 54 degrees and spotty drizzle. and high tide from 6:00 or 7:00 up to midnight could produce minor tidal flooding. it's lunar high tide and it looks minor. and 56 is today's high in

philadelphia, may add a degree or two to that. and clear skies overall with spotty drizzle and the breezes could pick up 10 to 20 miles per hour. a jacket is required. for the evening commute, 55 at 4:00 and 56 at 5:00, even numbers until 7:00, and yes there could be a pop-up shower or sprinkle. 51 is the overnight low that doesn't sound too bad but we'll be under the clouds and there could be additional clouds and drizzle overnight. it's still kind of dry there, as we head to the morning commute there is the chance we see light showers move back up into the i-95 corridor that is 8:00. after that steadier bands of rain come through and it looks like everyone is wet at 2:00. and we hope it gets over the west of us for the evening commute and tomorrow evening i would bring an umbrella if you are out because there could be residual showers off the ocean.
