crash on a south jersey highway and thousands of students are making history at temple university's graduation today. but the big story on "action news" at noon is the downpour hitting the delaware valley. heavy rain is causing flight delays at the philadelphia international airport and coastal flooding continues at the jersey shore. some streets were covered in water in egg harbor township. and melissa magee is tracking the wet weather for us and is at the big board with the latest. >> reporter: yes, certainly a soggy start to our friday. heavy moisture in time for the commute and it continues this afternoon. here is stormtracker 6 live double scan you can see the rain along the i-95 corridor and points to the north and west. as we go through the afternoon hours, the moisture from where it is currently, shifts to the north and west. we'll go tighter on storm tracker street level. from philadelphia into

wilmington we are dealing with pockets of moderate if not heavy moisture in coatesville and malvern. we are getting the moisture off the atlantic and because of that there is a big concern at the coast today. a coastal flood warning is issued and stays up until 1:00 a.m. moderate flooding say big concern, we have watches from seaside heights to cape may. the bay high tide follows five hours after that. a big concern later on this evening. as far as the rain we have seen so far. atlantic city more than and inch. 1.10 and 1.9 in wilmington and philadelphia almost an inch. and this will continue as we go throughout the day. as far as what to expect, the showers linger into the

two weeks since amy joyner francis died in a fight at howard high school of technology. they turned over most of the evidence to the delaware department of justice. they will decide on the charges warranted in this case. all the girls involved have been suspended from school. the man that opened fire on the blue route is still on the run, police say he shot into another car in an apparent case of road rage. annie mccormick is live in winfield heights. >> reporter: rick, a short time ago, detectives left to follow-up on leads from overnight into this morning. detectives are looking for surveillance footage on the blue route and around the conshohocken exit where the suspect was last seen. take a good look at the composite sketch that police say

pulled out a gun and shot at normal motorist. >> take a good look at the sketch, they say he has scarring on the right side of his face and his face is pocked on both sides. >> this looks like the dark blue lincoln town car the suspect was driving, it has tinted windows. >> a silver or black emblem. >> it was on the schuylkill expressway when the brazen incident occurred. two drivers got into a disagreement on the road and it escalated when the shooter got out of his vehicle and fired at the person he had an issue with. the driver of this blue mitsubishi lancer. the driver was not hurt the bullet wept through the door but hit the center console. a woman a few cars back spoke to "action news" on face time. >> i saw brakes stopping and

people waiving their hands out of the window and then someone pull out something, could have been the gun. >> the shooting victim is cooperating but they are hashing out the details. they believe they were engaging in aggressive driving. >> that is what led to it, which one was more investigating we are investigating, we know who was more aggressive in the end with the gun fire. >> reporter: now we are told that the roadway was packed at the time the shooting did occur and there are more witnesses out there. they are urging the people to please call them. if you have information call the pennsylvania state police. channel 6 "action news." >> annie, thank you. an accident in south jersey left one person dead and shut down a busy roadway. it happened before 6:00 in the southbound lanes of route 42 in depford township.

we are told that a car went off the highway and struck a tree. the driver was thrown from the car and died at the scene. an inmate that escaped from a south jersey prison is still on the loose. arthur buckel escaped from bay side state prison on tuesday. he was spotted at a cvs store the next day but they are confident that buckel left town. but to be on alert. he served time for man salute for killing a crying baby. joe paterno's son denied a bombshell alligation against his late father. the complaint says that a boy told him in 1976 that jerry sandusky molested him. that is 25 years before they told officials about the abuse. it's part of the lawsuit with the insurers and the school.

the company says that paterno was told decades earlier and he did nothing about it. his son said the alligation is not true and that paterno never covered up sandusky's actions. and lawmakers will meet again today to come up with a compromise for atlantic city. after the bill failed to come up for a vote. he will try again on a new bill that would be more acceptable to governor chris christie. and christie is calling on lawmakers to support the bill by steve sweeney. rainy skies are not dampening the enthusiasm of thousands of temple university graduates. commencement exercises got underway on the campus and the class is celebrating a mile tonight. katherine scott is live now with

more. >> reporter: hi rick, yes graduation is letting out right now, some years linger outside of the ceremony, not so much this year, pouring rain and gloomy and people are grabbing their family members and moving on but inside this morning it was a different story. the smiles from graduates brightened up this rainy day, the class of 201 6 is the largest in the school's history. >> even though it's rainy and ugly it's awesome. >> i'm excited. it's been seven years since i went back to school but i did it. >> the class comes from 36 countries and 49 states and two u.s. territories and 56 pennsylvania counties. about 80% of the members of the class are from pennsylvania. 20% from philadelphia and now they will all join an enormous

network of temple alumni. >> they are leaders in philadelphia and cities around the world. they will be your lifetime partners. >> the youngest graduate to earn a bachelors is 20 and the oldest is 63. and some are figuring out what to do next and others have their plans lined up and ready to go. >> i'm graduating with a full-time job. >> i have an internship in center city and doing a masters here at temple. >> i'm excited to get out in the real world and apply the knowledge i learned here. >> i love this. the fun tidbits about the graduating class. 14 sets of twins, 167 people named michael. and 30 of the graduates have a birthday today so they have something extra to celebrate. congratulations everybody.

the latest job reports shows hiring slowed down last month

melissa magee is here with the accuweather forecast finally seeing sun on moms day. >> mom has something to look forward to. this is not how we want to start our weekend but improvement is coming. we'll show you stormtracker 6 live double scan radar, we still have the moisture and heavy rain for philadelphia up to trenton and down the i-95 corridor southbound into wilmington. a lot of that moisture will press from an east to west direction. we go in a little tighter to street level, jenkintown and willow grove, pockets of rain

and same for norristown and downingtown and westchester and downs ford. the moisture in comparison to what we had today and earlier this morning will lift and turn more showery as we go through the afternoon hours. we'll show you the picture outside. sky 6 hd looking at the commodore barry bridge, this tells the story, it's cloudy and dreary and we have the showers around and temperatures are responding to the wet weather outside. in philadelphia it's 51, 50 in wilmington and 45 and 53 in reading and a chill in the atmosphere and the easterly component, and 50 in trenton and the boardwalk in atlantic city. with so much low level moisture down to 1 mile there and 3 in allentown unimprovement for millville and wildwood. if you are traveling by air check ahead with your carrier for travel delays.

satellite 6 along with action radar you can see the upper level low for the most part stuck across the mid-atlantic region, we have the showers now but watch the progression of the moisture here it goes westward for the rest of today and then it kicks it out to saturday into sunday. by 6:00 in the evening for the evening ride home it looks better than how it looked earlier today with just a few lingering showers for allentown, reading and down to lancaster. the moisture stays with us for the start of our weekend on saturday. i would not be surprised to see showers on saturday afternoon but also some sunny breaks but it's not until we get into sunday afternoon in time for mothers day that the improvement comes. brighter afternoon and a nice northwesterly wind at 20 miles per hour and temperatures for mom max out in the upper 50s.
