searching for person went missing after a jet ski accident in the delaware river. it happened in the river off 1600 block of lambert ton street the at 7:00 o'clock tonight. the coastguard officials say two men were on a jet ski when they lost control and got tossed into the water. victims were not wearing life jackets. one man was rescued but other identified as jesus menendez did not resurface. the as soon as we get new details we will pass them on. there has been a unusual number of home fires over the past 24 hours n fact, six people were killed in fires all across the delaware valley. "action news" reporter jeff chirico is at fire administration building in spring garden with more, jeff. >> reporter: walter, three of those deaths happened in philadelphia. that takes the the total number of fire fatalities in the city, this year to eight. that is three more than this time last year. the commissioner says that the most recent deaths could have been prevented. >> i assumed that they weren't

inside, because i hadn't seen them all day. >> reporter: but john mccool woke to the news his neighbor's body has been found inside a burned out third floor bedroom on the 1700 block of morris street. >> all i saw was top window there was some smoke coming out of the top window but it was very dark, very black. >> reporter: fire fighters put out the the fire in 17 minutes but they weren't able to save a man in his 70's and woman in her 60's. >> unaudible. >> reporter: howard rich man say the pair two hours earlier to use his phone to order foot. he sad utility had been cut off so he and other neighbors cooked meals for them. they were lighting can also, because they didn't have fire. >> yeah, right. >> reporter: derrick sawyer told "action news" that the home had six smoke detectors but not one had a working battery. >> they didn't have working smoke alarms. if they did they would be here today. >> reporter: hours later another fire fatality in the the first floor apartment on the home in the 4700 block of hazel avenue in west philadelphia eight people escaped, but one man didn't make it out.

fighters got the call around 4:00 a.m. when they arrived on the 800 block of dekalb street flames were shooting from the twin home and several people were trapped inside. >> fire stations located, about a block away from the scene. fire fighters arrived and found a three story dwelling with heavy fire, visible from the first floor of the home. >> reporter: marco dough minkes lives across the street and woke up when he heard his neighbors screaming for help. >> she was in shock. >> reporter: soon after, marco says he saw fire fighters, pulled the two girls out of the home and start cpr. >> they wouldn't respond. they took them to the ambulance. they took them to the hospital. >> reporter: officials say three people were killed, two adults and one child. another child was rushed to chop in critical condition. >> 827, says that the damage there is mostly expect and she heard that she would be returning in a couple days. damage to the 825, side where the fire started is more extensive. she says that it will take, quite sometime to rebuild that property. seventeen people are being

detective wore hazmat suits as they investigated. police are investigating the death of the woman found dead this morning on the street in society hill. at 2:30 police were called to south fifth street near lombard for an unresponsive woman. medics tried to revive her but she was pronounced dead at the scene this is at south street spring festival was taking place less than a block away. investigators say would the man was in her 50's but apart from that investigators have no information about her including the cause of her death. former philadelphia police commissioner willie williams was laid to rest today. police officers lined the streets outside of zion baptist church in north philadelphia, and soluted the will i williams. mayor jim kenney was on hand to pay his respects, with hundreds of mourners. williams died last week in his home near atlanta after a long illness. he was 72 years old. vice-president joe biden delivered the commencement address today at delaware state university in dover. biden talk about the the close knit nature of the delaware
