man's actions as he is charged with schuylkill county's first homicide in decades. the charges the man is facing in a murder investigation. they say the audio tape was recorded on the victim's phone and john rawlins live in schuylkill township with that story tonight at 5:00. >> reporter: hi guys, this actually happened 11 days ago on may 2nd but the victim had such severe injuries he had not been medically fit to be charged until today. >> the defendant grabs a shotgun and his girlfriend is sit on the couch and levels the shotgun at her and shoots her in the heart. the home shared by leslie web a mother of two and keith smith. smith after the first blast attempts suicide. he turned the shotgun on himself

and flinches and ends up shooting himself in the face but doesn't kill himself. >> smith worked at this deli owned by his family next to his home. she signalled to smith she and her children were leaving and there is an audio recording of some of the incident. the victim sees the gun come out and pulls out her phone and hits record and she records the murder. so you actually can hear him taking the shotgun and shooting her and talking to her. >> reporter: upstairs in the house there were three children, webb's two as well as smith's son all under the age of 14 and the recording captures the three coming down into the living room to make the grim discovery. john rawlins, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you john. a man is in pennsylvania

state police custody tonight accused of opening fire on the blue route last week. police say that anthony richardson shot at least one shot while driving on 476 northbound last thursday. investiga investigators say that the car's console is what saved the victim's life. pennsylvania state police were investigating a sexting scandal at a middle school, according to officials a female student took a naked picture and that ended up in the hands of several other students. walter perez is live now in london grove with the details. >> reporter: well, rick juvenile charges have been filed in this case already against a 13 and 14-year-old involved and local authorities are hoping this story will serve as a cautionary tale for teens across the

region. many sexting cases begin the same way as this one, involving children, it started with a young teenage girl taking a naked photo of herself and texting it to a boy in her class. >> and then something happens between the two of them and then the guy passes the picture on to other guys. >> at least three boys ended up in possession of the photo all of them ages 13 and 14, this is part of a stream of similar since departments in schools. it boils down to adolescents and technology. >> they don't know the difference and they think it's fun, it's a bad age. >> i believe it starts from the core of their being and their self-esteem and respect for themselveses. >> they think because their friends can do it, and they

don't know the repercussions of them doing this today and tomorrow and then oh look what happened to me. >> that is why tom hogan says every parent with teenage girl should make it a point to stay on their children's electronic and online activity. >> parents say that is an invasion of privacy, and i wouldn't want to do that. the question is, would you rather invade their privacy but feel uncomfortable or find them in the middle of a sexting scandal? >> hogan says of course this is a problem across the country not just here in chester county and also says that the children involved in this case face summary or misdemeanor charges and will be sentenced to counseling sessions at best. thank you. turning now to the race for the white house, both donald trump and hillary clinton are one step

authorities now say a fire that triggered a deadly explosion at a fertilizer plant is not an accident and they are calling it a criminal act and trying to find out who responsibility. it killed 15 people and injured hundreds more and left part of the town in ruins. in health check the impact of the zika virus went beyond folks infected with it and now causing blood supply problems in some places. health reporter and registered nurse, ali gorman is at the big board to explain. >> reporter: the fda issued new guidelines urging people to wait five weeks before donating blood and that caused donations in

parts of the country to drop off. some blood drives after short break had to differ up to 30% of donations. and it doesn't know how many donors just did not come in to donate. they are urging people to donate before they travel. and researchers are learning more but how zika virus can cause the deadly virus microcephaly. the virus is immature and can limit blood flow to the baby and make its way to the brain and disrupt development. researchers say it gives them more information to help develop a vaccine. and finally there is no doubt pope francis has embraced technology to work for human good, he is on twitter and

hello again, here is what is happening tonight. a former north charleston police officer charged with murder in the death of an unarmed black man is now facing federal charges. a thief with a plan storms into a local business demanding money and police need your help catching him before he strikes again. and a group of high schoolers grab their bikes for a new program at a north philadelphia school. now the details, a federal indictment for civil rights violations was handed down to michael slager, he is charged with shooting unarmed black motorist walter scott in 2015. the incident sparked outrage across the nation. >> handcuffs and shackled former south carolina police officer michael slagger in court indicted in a federal grand jury

for the death of michael scott. >> this is historic, they are saying it stops now. police brutality stops now. because there is consequences. >> slagger was captured on cell phone video shooting scott. the rare indictment does not site race but that he fired the deadly shots without legal justification. and slager is charged with obstruction of justice accused of misleading police officers. >> i claim it and i stand on the word justice will prevail. >> the former north charleston officer already facing a state murder charge will remain on house arrest until trial. >> reporter: and slager pleaded not guilty and the justice department says that if

one of the delaware teenagers charged in the death of amy joyner francis' death claims the charges are too severe. john decker's 16-year-old clients is charged with negligent homicide and allegedly caused joyner francis' death in a high school bathroom in wilmington. >> he says there is no way he can reasonably perceive that a school fight would lead to such a tragedy. if convicted as an adult she could get eight years in prison. from our new jersey newsroom tonight, investigators are investigating a homicide in trenton. south clinton street near hudson street. a call was received at 3:00 a.m. laying in the middle of the road, when the officers arrived the man was already dead. also, from new jersey a man

remains in critical condition tonight after he was shot early this morning in camden. it happened along south 7th street along everett street. and immediately called for paramedics, and rushed the man to the hospital for treatment. so far they have not identified the victim or said why he may have been shot. philadelphia police are asking for your help finding a thief that targeted a business, this was taken at the dunkin' donuts on tourses dale avenue. he claimed he had a gun and demanded money, the clerk gave money from the register and the thief ran off. if you have information you are asked to call philadelphia police. officers in south jersey say they caught the man that robbed a bank in haddon township. he turned himself in overnight and that he held up the wells fargo last week, he is jailed on $100,000 bail and haddon township police posted a message

on their facebook page thanking people with tips that came in to help solve that case. the city of philadelphia is expanding their prescription drug drop box program. the drop box started as a pilot program in january and there was only six of them and now it has nearly doubled. 13 boxes are placed in districts across the city and the expansion is possible thanks to a grant from the district attorney's association. >> if you have any medicine in your medicine cabinet in your home, don't put it in the toilet or put it in the trash or leave it in your home, bring it to the police district. >> in 2015, 255 people overdosed in philadelphia. we can all help to change that. more than hundred students watched this mock crash scene in
