blowing through the tri-state area. that's a live picture on sky6 of center city philadelphia. some of you may be experiencing strong wind gusts and small hail. meteorologist cecily tynan is live at the "action news" big board. cecily, what's the latest track of these storms? >> and jim, all these storms are really sinking to the south and west. the bigger picture on double scan live showing what's going on, got an upper level low sitting off the coast of virginia and this is what's pivoting the storms in and i've been tracking this one line of storms moving into philadelphia. it's raining in philadelphia but actually the heavier downpours are either west or east of center city. we've got one area of very heavy downpours sitting right over route 130 near camden, another one that's moving through new jersey turnpike and moorestown not only four lightning strikes sorted with this view so really the big problem it's not the lightning, it's its heavy

downpour near king of prussia, 202 a heavy downpour another moving through the blue route right near newtown square and some of these downpours dropping as much as 3-inches of rain an hour. so, that is causing a lot of ponding on roads. good idea to kind of pull over if you're trying to drive through this and wait the storm out. they're moving pretty quickly. this is what to expect really the next 36 hours. scattered showers and thunderstorms. the focus will be shifting to the east tomorrow. now, i don't expect a lot of severe weather but we're looking at wind gusts up to about 40 miles per hour. some pea sized hail and locally heavy downpours and once the storms move out, i'm tracking some real summer time warmth moving in. i'll have details on that in the accuweather 7-day forecast, jim. >> thank you, cecily. now to the tragic traffic death of a 17-year-old student antawn timbers was struck and killed early saturday morning on route 130 in burlington city. police suspect that toxicology tests will show that the driver was drunk behind the wheel. odom is live at the scene of the accident with all the latest information. vernon. >> reporter: very tragic jim. there's an atmosphere of mourning and sorrow and pure shock all across this town in the last few hours. a popular young high schooler's life was shut down, snuffed out right here at this corner behind me. >> just a tragic loss. i mean, this is one of the worst things that you never can imagine. >> reporter: a father struggles to cope with his son's cruel fate. the family of antawn timbers jr. appeared today to display their grief. 17-year-old antawn jr. was killed here along route 130 just after midnight sunday morning as he walked home with a friend. police charged the driver with dui and reckless driving. police say he hit the local high school tenth grader who was walking well off the road. but all police here can do is issue a traffic summons. >> in the event that there is a -- a death from a motor vehicle or a pedestrian being struck and the pedestrian has

died, the local agency has to contact the burlington county prosecutor's office at which point the case is then taken over by the burlington county prosecutor's office major crimes unit. >> reporter: association the alleged drunk driver remains free tonight pending the results of toxicology testing which could take up to two months to complete. police identify him as 42-year-old ricardo patterson the third of willingboro. the timbers are an old established burlington city family. >> for the community of burlington we're going wrap our hearths around that -- wrap our answer around them to protect them and to make sure that we are here for them each step of the way. >> reporter: counselors were dispatched to the local high school today where antawn a tenth grader was active in the rotc. >> he was looking into the military as a career. he was very excited about his future. >> reporter: this town has a population of less than 10,000 packed into a three square mile area. it seems the entire town is in mourning. >> all of the people you see

behind me, he was loved by all of them. i mean, this is a tight group, airtight tight family. a great community. >> reporter: jim, pending now before the general assembly, several bills that would tighten up new jersey's drunk driving laws. live in burlington city, i'm vernon odom, channel6 "action news. >> vernon, thank you. delaware state police are investigating a crash that injured a teenaged driver. the accident happened along route 100 in buck road in talleyville about an hour and a half ago. police say the driver lost control of his sports car, crashed into a utility pole and flipped over. the impact brought down wires as you can see causing a small power outage in the area. the victim was treated at the scene. a teenager suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car this afternoon in cherry hill. the accident happened at 3:30 on springdale road. the teenaged victim was taken

to cooper university hospital for treatment there. anxiety is spreading across a neighborhood in palmer township northampton county, pennsylvania spreading because of a sinkhole that has already led to the condemnation of two homes. lehigh valley correspondent walter perez is live on brentwood avenue in palmer township. walter, why are local residents there upset with township officials? >> reporter: well, jim, that's because at the center of this whole thing is a water main that ruptured this past winter. a lawsuit has been filed. either way as you mentioned two homes have been damaged and two others have been condemned. >> it's nerve wracking. it's -- it's just -- i can't take much more of it i can tell you that. >> reporter: debbie warner of palmer township is talking about the prospect of losing her home. this past january the day after that massive snowstorm a huge sinkhole opened up here on brentwood avenue after a

water main break. this photo shows a front end loader brought in to help repair the damage was devoured by the giant hole. four months have passed and repair work to the warner family home is not done yet. >> my husband said open the back door to the garage. we could not open the door at all. the house shifted. the garage door cracked and shifted and moved away from my foundation. >> reporter: it was even tougher for members of the shook family who live next door. their home was one of two condemned by the township, the same day the sinkhole opened. christina shook who asked we not show her face says it was that much more difficult for her and her husband because they have four children, three with special needs. >> after the first hole opened two more opened immediately in the same day two more holes. then we went from one to three. and the roads were blocked off as you know and we were still dealing with the 32-inches of snow. >> reporter: several neighbors are now suing the township claiming it was the municipal water main break that's to blame. meanwhile christina shook says

even though her homeowners insurance follow policy does include sinkhole coverage if the insurance company decides the cost of repair exceeds the value of the home and property they could use a major percentage of what they paid for the house. by the way, they just bought that house last summer. >> there's one price to fix the foundation and another price to fix the hole. >> reporter: you distill might lose the whole thing. >> right. >> reporter: now, we did reach out to the township but they had no comments since this case is the subject of a lawsuit. reporting live from palmer township, walter perez, channel6 "action news." jim. >> walter, thank you. dozens of doctors and nurses threw their support today behind philadelphia mayor jim kenney's tax on sugary drinks. they gathered at a health clinic in center city to speak in favor of the plan. it calls for a three cents per ounce tax on sugary drinks to help fund city programs such as expanded pre-k. these doctors believe the price increase would curb lier sugar consumption which is

blamed in part for the diabetes epidemic. >> what do we want. >> no guns. >> when do we want it? >> now. >> fourth graders from samuel powell elementary got a lesson in activism today. they held a antigun march around philadelphia city hall this morning. the students then had a chance to go inside for a discussion on gun laws with city council members helen gwynn and kenyatta johnson. preliminary hearing in the sexual assault case against bill cosby will go on tomorrow. the pennsylvania supreme court denied a stay in this case this afternoon. cosby faces a hearing in montgomery county in norristown to determine if the case goes to trial. former temple university employee andrea constand claims there she was drugged and molested by cosby at his nome 2004. and there is a chance that constand will take the stand come tomorrow. new jersey lawmakers have agreed on a rescue package that would keep atlantic city from running out of money.

state assembly and senate leaders reached the agreement this afternoon. it would give the city 150 days to come up with a five-year budget plan. in the meantime, the city would get a temporary loan of $60 million and would retain its collective bargaining rights. the whole assembly will vote on thursday. delaware lawmakers hosted a job fair this afternoon in wilmington. it took place at delaware technical and community college. dozens of new castle county employers were on land to meet potential employees and to pass out important information. coming up on "action news tonight, youngsters from new jersey take a field trip to a place that is helping them overcome some learning obstacles. and the eagles get a visit from a very special coach, at least we think so. ducis rodgers has that story coming up. >> the heaviest downpours with this band of thunderstorms now pushing south and west of philadelphia, i'm tracking

america who suffers from dyslexia a reading disability. >> sometimes it's just a mixup or a jumble of letters, sometimes it's a jumble of words. >> i'm struggling on these words that are just like hard for me. >> reporter: and then when you hear them say it -- >> yeah, it -- yeah, it helps me learn about them. >> reporter: the kids have been improving their reading skills with the use of audio books. >> my mom was really happy when she got back from work. >> reporter: using smartphones tablets or other devices the students can hear and see the words they are reading. >> it highlights the word as it's being read to him and he can follow along. >> i said i was struggling with words and like it reads it for me so i can get practice on it. >> reporter: this class trip allowed the students to see where the audio books are recorded and they even got a chance to sit in a sound booth themselves to try it out. >> i want to be a teacher. >> reporter: experts say that dyslexia has nothing to do with how smart you are. it's all about how your brain

>> stormy afternoon. what about tonight. >> and tonight everything will kind of fall apart once the sun sets which is good news. storm tracker6 live double scan slowing that we do -- showing that we do have a line of some pretty intense thunderstorms rolling through right now. this is already past through philadelphia. it's heading towards wilmington. it's all moving to the southwest at about 25 miles per hour. so, yorklyn delaware, wilmington, hockessin all in the path of this storm. we've had 15 lightning strikes in the past 15 minutes. and also where you see that bright pink, that's rain that's falling at the rate of about 3-inches per hour. so, blinding torrential rain and i actually want to flip this over because storm tracker can actually track hail. the hail swath and you can see that just south of media, likely you saw hail also south of west chester and we've had a lot of reports of pea sized hail from these storms and

this was a photo that was tweeted out by wendy from blue bell, pennsylvania. and this really shows the strength of the updraft in the thunderstorms creating that small hail. temperatures right now rain cooled, philadelphia 62, down from a high of 76 which is the normal high for this time of the year. a allentown 68 down from 80. wilmington 69, cape may currently 62 and trenton currently 64 degrees. satellite6 along with action radar showing you see this spin in the atmosphere. this is low pressure. it's a cutoff low can which means that the jet stream can't push it along and this is just going to plea ander over us for about the next 24 hours working offer the coast of virginia, so this will keep us unsettled tomorrow but i really think the focus will shrift to the east. future tracker showing by 11 o'clock, we lose that heating of the day. any of the storms are out of here. heading into the morning commute we'll see a lot of sunshine to the west of philadelphia, more clouds east and maybe even a few scattered showers along the coast and then into the afternoon much like today, we will see he
