sunny day staying cool. we have team coverage of the happening as cross the region. "action news" reporter trish hartman is live in fairmount park and jeff chirico is live in ocean city but we will begin with meteorologist melissa magee enjoying a sunny evening with the first check of the accu weather forecast, melissa. >> reporter: walter, it feels nice for the start of our holiday weekend, we have plenty of sunshine and enough sun to get our numbers above average today. in fact making this an official heat wave here in philadelphia first heat wave of the year, and it started out on thursday with the high of 90, yesterday we have maxed out at 90 and today we have climbed up to 90 degrees, normal for this time of the year is 77. we have an official heat wave, on our hand. right the now it is southerly wind down to 88 in the city. eighty-nine in allentown. same thing in reading, 85 in western lancaster. at the companies in cape may afternoon sea breeze kick nothing at beach haven and along cape may point. the dew point is moisture in the atmosphere. stepping outside you notice

beautiful, the beautiful sun and frigid surf. there is even more people on the boardwalk, people taking in, every last ounce, of fun and sun. >> happy birth the day. >> spirits are high in ocean city as family, packed with beach, clear skies and mild temperatures, sun batters and swimmers by the thousands. >> it is a perfect beach day wouldn't you say. >> awesome day. the kid enjoyed it. >> great for what we have the last four weekend, i will take it. >> reporter: on the beach kid dug in for a weekend of fun and sun, and, the family from new castle delaware says only complaint the water is frigid new didn't stop him from jumping in. >> i have four kids and we have no choice. but i felt good. >> reporter: those who worked on the beach, says it is boardwalk where we found the white family from west philadelphia. >> unaudible. >> i jumped over the wave.

"action news" reporter trish hartman is live with more, hi there, trish. >> reporter: hi there walter. hot day but breeze here in fairmount park is certainly helping, a beautiful night for i barbecue. we have the grill going, we have got burgers for dinner looking good over here. now this isn't just a memorial day cook out, thinks a quadruple graduation party. you just earned your master's degree, all from different schools. >> different schools. my husband and i graduated from wilmington university. he graduated from west chester university. the justin graduated from southern new hampshire university. >> reporter: excellent. congratulations. job well done. hot night to celebrate, and whether you chose to be out in this heat today or you had had to be outside working in it people we spoke with say it is all about being prepared, a and making the best of it. after a morning of fishing at hatchery at pleasant hill park in northeast philadelphia. >> really hot i want to go home and swim in the pool. >> reporter: heat had gotten

the best of these youth. >> we brought a big jug of what the tore keep us cool. >> reporter: for these kid nice cold water ice was a welcomed treat and for their dad this hot weather is a welcomed change. >> it is instead of beating heat i thought we would embrace it with all this rain we had, put the air conditioning in, yesterday and hasn't turned off since. >> reporter: no air conditioning? no problem. for lee attractman from brooklyn, new york. how good did that feel. >> pretty good. >> reporter: we saw her and her family in washington square wrapping up a morning of swelter sight seeing. >> we will wait for the pool to open up. >> reporter: not everyone was having fun in the sun. this construction crew spent the afternoon, moving bricks and sand, with the sun beating down on them. >> it looks like somebody is here to switch, and it got hot all of a sudden but we have to deal witt. >> reporter: tour guide's job toys inform his guest while keeping himself and his horse chipper nice and cool.

>> we keep horses hydrated. we keep ourselves hydrated we look for as much shade as we can for the horses. the customers we put the tops up. >> reporter: now i also spoke with city officials who say they are taking extra precautions at cities homeless shelters. they had extra outreach teams, in the city checking on the homeless and they say if you you see someone in the city who looks like they need help you can call the homeless outreach hot line at (215)232-1984. we're live from fairmount park, channel have "action news" trish hartman. hundreds of people turnout for 37th annual mayfair today in collinswood, new jersey. street fair that is several blocks was complete with art, music and food. there is face painting for the kid this has been a annual tradition since 1979 when it began as a close line art exhibit. how about that. it was also a perfect day in the wildwoods for international kite festival. there were kites of every color and a few cartoon characters, flying above the

after they fell from a second story window in the cities germantown section. it was just after 12:30 when the girls fell from the second floor of the home on the 500 block of manhim e street. "action news" reporter christie ileto is live at says christophers hospital with the details, christie. >> reporter: st. christopher's tells thaws three-year old madison is in fair condition. their family tells us that they believe she broke her twin sister's fall when they fell from the bedroom window on to pavement in their backyard. >> i love my kid so much. >> reporter: gaping hole in the screen of the second story window was erie reminder of what happened just hours earlier. he says his twin, three-year old daughter fell 20 to 30 feet from their bedrooms in the backyard of their germantown home. >> fell from a window. >> they were supposed to be taking a nap. i went to check on them. next thing i know i'm told that one of them are outside.

>> she was just laying in the wheel well over here, near the steps. >> really. >> she hit the pavement. >> she hit the pavement. >> reporter: family members tell "action news" makenzie and madison are inseparable and that the pair climbed on a window seat before plumetting. they believe madison broke mckenzie's fall. >> madison is the one that is hurt, mckenzie, she seems to be all right. the or one didn't have a mark on her. >> reporter: collins says after the fall mckenzie ran to the the front of the house looking for help, her sister, madison was rushed to st. christopher's hospital. what is the lesson here? >> the lesson here just to be on top of things, to always, have your children checked and quadruple check, and make sure your kids are okay, if you are taking a nap. now, madison in the wake

and alert but has had some head injuries and staying overnight to be monitored by doctors. reporting live from st. christopher's, christie ileto for channel six "action news", walter. developing news from bensalem where two people were injured by a large branch that fell from the tree in the neshaminy state park. it happened just after 4:00 p.m., police say branch crashed on the ground injuring two people along the way. they were rushed to aria torresdale hospital. no word on their conditions. much more to come on "action news" tonight, a baby is among those hurt during a two car crash on city avenue, latest on the investigation. later they weren't there to lay on the beach but the hundreds of the people hit the sand there in ocean city for a grueling memorial day weekend challenge. plus the phillies had a battle of their own today in wrigley field, jeff skversky has sports when "action news" comes right back. infant was among injured

during a two day crash on city avenue this morning. it happened at 1:30 this morning near merion avenue. investigators say a driver of the mercedes struck a rear of the ford escape. impact caused the ford to spin and catch fire. one person from that vehicle was taken to lankanol hospital, the six month-old was taken to children's hospital, no word tonight on their conditions. people in new jersey, are searching for the hit and run driver who struck and killed a man earlier this morning, it was just after 4:00 a a.m. when investigators say a vehicle struck 26 year-old kyle marci from galloway township as he was walking near route 30 and route nine in absecon. marci was taken to atlantic city medical center where he was pronounced dead a short time later. investigators say marci was hit by dark colored 2012 honda civic. anyone with any information is asked to please call the police. a 07 year-old man was able to escape his burning home after someone threw a molotov cocktail at his window. this happened this morning on the 1,000 block of dorris

street. investigators say that device, didn't shatter the window so the fire never made it inside the house but neighbor tells "action news" that family had just moved into that home from south carolina no arrests have been made. connections.

beach enjoying the nice weather, hundreds of people competed in the memorial day challenge in ocean city. people competed in three separate races, a navy seals inspired obstacle course challenge, ocean pad the challenge and kid fun run. the is there a patriot ceremony to honor veterans and fallen heroes. time for a final check of the accu weather forecast. >> it was hot today, walter. made it an official heat wave, three straight days with temperatures in the 90's. we have a couple changes into tomorrow and monday for the actual holiday memorial day. here's storm tracker six live

double scan radar. it is dry. no issues with precipitation. numbers maxed out in the upper 80's, lower 90's across delaware and lehigh valleys. tomorrow is not as warm, and then, on monday, where we're tracking potential for some tropical moisture moving into our region. at this hour in philadelphia with the southerly win, 88 in the city. eighty-nine for reading and allentown. sixty-eight in the poconos. the it is cool. we have been dealing with showers and storms moving on through. seventy at the coast in cape may. nice sea breeze. at beach haven coming in at 74. here's satellite six with action radar. it dries, quiet across the region. you can see this frontal boundary draped across the mid-atlantic region and areas in the poconos have been dealing with some showers, and some storms. but our area, for the rest of tonight is warm, and it is humid, we will drop down to 66, in the suburbs, and 69 in philadelphia, for the overnight low, we have got increasing clouds that will move in, as we go throughout the overnight hours whiz means the clouds are moving in, even as we get in the second half

of our weekend. if you are traveling down the shore tomorrow, on sunday, we have got some evening showers, that we're dealing with, high temperature coming in at seven 36789 on monday, thunderstorms are likely with a high of 72. monday does not look like the best of beach days. we will show thaw at the moment. at the poconos if your destination takes you there tomorrow, showers arrive late, high temperature of 83. on monday we're tracking some downpours with a high temperature coming in at 77. here's why. we will take you down to the tropics, keeping a close eye on tropical storm bonnie, wind sustained at 40 miles an hour moving northwest at 10 miles per hour and there is areas of charleston dealing with some showers and some storms. we will track this system as it works its way up mid-atlantic region. we are not calling for a tropical storm in our area but we will get that moisture pull northward across our region. future tracker six showing you sunday night into monday some locations in philadelphia, could pick up, close to about 2 inches of rain depending on your location.
