pennypack creek. a child falls victim to the first shark attack of the season. the big news on "action news," is mother nature spoiling some memorial day plans. the long holiday weekend is ending on a gloomy note forcing people to cancel cookouts and moving things indoors. david murphy not a total washout everywhere. >> reporter: the shore is getting the brunt of this. what's causing the rain is the combination of the remnants of tropical storm bonnie now a depression. in fact the national hurricane center released an hour ago its final statement on the storm because it is weakening so much and meandering out to see over the next -- sea over the next couple of days it's not much of

a factor. with the storm moving in this direction it is pulling the rain over by the coast. as we look at the current view on storm tracker 6 live double scan, this is pretty much whether a future tracker has been showing you late last night and this morning. rain mainly over by the coast, pop-up showers possible closer to philadelphia. for the most part in the i-95 corridor and farther to the northwest we expect mainly dry conditions this afternoon and in fact we're seeing breaks of sunshine. if you're at the shore. you have on and off showers and heavier stuff coming in out of areas especially in southern delaware. i think there's a chance after 3:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. this starts to get off the coast, of course by then most of you have your bags packed and you're on your way back. as we look at satellite radar there's clearing happening or at least thing of the clouds from philadelphia off to the northwest and we have started to see breaks of sunshine. that's helping the numbers to

rebounds. 77 degrees in philadelphia. 76 in allentown. 76 in wilmington. 77 in trenton with the slight flow coming off the water you're at 67 in cape may. these are decent numbers overall. i will remind you it is on the humid side we have dewpoints over 70 in spots down in south jersey and delaware, anything 70 or better is oppressive humidity. upper 60s is noticeable. the low 60s in reading not so bad. in terms of the high temperature, we'll tack on a couple of more degrees. 79 is where we'll go. we'll to the average high of 78. overnight low 67 well above average because tomorrow will be warmer. in terms of rain the rest of the way, sarah i'll be back in a couple of minutes and show you future tracker 6 which has been handling this as well. we have better weather on tuesday. our coverage continues in

ocean city with nora muchanic, many have left the shore towns, but some sticking around despite the weather. >> reporter: we're on the ocean city boardwalk, i was amazed how many people were walking around. those folks are not willing to give up on memorial day. clearly lots of folks have. a steady stream of traffic was heading out of ocean city this morning people with no interest staying in town in it was going to rain. it's okay so we had three other beautiful days. we'll take the rain as we go home. it's not as bad, i guess. >> reporter: the bad weather means instead of the asbury avenue business district teaming with people there were stragglers out this morning. not great news for the cafe or anyone else. big weekend everybody is coming down, but sad lie, everyone is heading back home. a disappointment for the businesses.

>> reporter: yeah, definitely. they say grandparents ventured out in the rain and they are figure out how to keep their grandson and his friend on the board boardwalk today. i wanted to go into the ocean, but we're leaving today, it's all depressioning. we were expecting for it to be okay, now it's starting to pick up a little. it's okay be it's mild out, we'll be okay. >> reporter: believe it or not there were people out on the boardwalk, riding bikes and getting soaked. we're celebrating memorial day and each other and the u.s.a. and everybody that has fallen for us and everybody we lost. and the smiles are on our faces that's about it. >> reporter: this family and many others not chased away by the bad weather. looking live at the gloomy boardwalk in ocean city. if the mother nature cooperated him the beach and boardwalk

would be packed. that's not the case and the crowds cleared out. we have folks out in the rain and lots of umbrellas, they don't want to give up yet because tomorrow it's back to work and school. live on the boardwalk in ocean city, nora muchanic channel 6 "action news." the names of two philadelphia soldiers will be added to the vietnam veterans' memorial at penns landing. this is the first addition to the wall in 13 years. next-door at the korean war people gathered to honor the first man from pennsylvania to be killed in that war. we'll have more on that in the next half-hour. a long-running celebration brought lots of patriotic pride to the bridesburg section of philadelphia. katherine scott was there for the memorial day parade. >> reporter: this parade is an annual tradition, it was set to go rain or shine. people lined the streets in bridesburg today decked out in the red, white and blue.

string bands veterans and girl scouts and more kicked off the bridesburg memorial day parade this morning on richmond street. an annual tradition that draws people from across the area. it's family oriented and everybody gets together. it's just great all the kids have fun. it's a beautiful thing. one of the best parades of the year. >> reporter: before the parade a gathering at the holy redeemer cemetary for memorial ceremony and placing of the wreath. reflecting on the meaning of memorial day and a salute to all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. the rain held out for the parade and hundreds lined the streets waving flags and clapping. another year, another great success. we're following developing news from the fox chase section of philadelphia. police have released tragic details about a man found dead in pennypack creek. officials say the 68-year-old victim was walking his dog when the animal went into the water. the man jumped in and was swept away by the current. authorities are working to

determine what happened to the dog. two people are dead and several orioles wounded after police say a man walked into a house ton auto detail shop yesterday and opened fire. one of the victims was a customer, the other, the gunman. bullets hit several police vehicles and a police helicopter was shot at with a high-powered weapon. none of the injuries were life threatening. two officers wounded were released from the hospital. in texas several communities are dealing with the aftermath of severe flooding. nine people had to be rescued near san antonio after an overnight downpour. 6 people died including a woman who else car was swept away. tropical aggression bonnie continues to bring -- tropical depression bonnie continues to bring rain to south carolina. the soggy weather is expected to linger when bonnie moves along the coast tomorrow. the cincinnati zoo is

defending it's decision to kill a 17-year-old gorilla to save the life of a young boy. the 4-year-old climbed through a barrier at the gorilla war exhibit and fell 15 feet below. witnesses captured the video of the 400-pound animal looming over the child and carrying him into the enclosure. zoo officials say tranquilizing the gorilla would not have knocked it out completely and it would have left the boy in danger. it could be have been very bad. >> reporter: the animal rights group at the zoo said they should have had a second barrier around the exhibit. a beach in florida recorded their first shark attack of the season. a 13-year-old boy was hurt while swimming in chest-deep water off dep tune beach.

another child saw it happen and helped the victim get back to shore. he grabbed my neck and i brought him back to the sand bar and there was two nice people that i handed the boy off to and i ran and told my mom. the boy was treated for a large by the. officials are investigating a suspected shark attack on the west west coast. a woman with large bites marks was pull off newport beach in southern castle california. three women stopped a stranger from being drugged near a restaurant in los angeles. they were having dinner when they noticed the couple at the next tabling. she saw the man put something into her drink and they got up and warned her. i said say, this is weird

we saw that guy put something in your drink. the woman went back to the table and did not touch the drink while restaurant management reviewed surveillance video. it confirmed the story, they called police, when the man was arrested he was carrying multiple vials of a clear substance. else facing felony charges. you scratch my back, i'll scratch yours. you know what it means. so does pat toomey. toomey got rich working on wall street. then he got elected and kept working, for wall street.

a check of the accuweather forecast. not so great at the shorepoints, do you think inland, people can get the barbecues in? >> reporter: yes, inland, but i want people to keep look at the smart phone app because there's chance of showers. the morning was played out according to the morning model run we showed you this morning during the broadcast. most of the rain by the shore. as we go in closer there are heavy cells highlighted in yellows and oranges that come in. there's a moderate rain and nora muchanic down on the boards in south jersey did show people walking around in light rain on some of the boardwalk. the heavier stuff is possible there could rumbles of thunder and thunderstorms that pop up later on. as we look outside we have cloudy skies with some sunny breaks in center city. there, of course, is the vietnam veterans memorial. looks like they will get their function in just fine today as

we honor our fallen veterans across the region at the various memorials and penns landing is a spot that has stayed dry for several hours. 77 degrees in philadelphia. the dewpoint 68 that indicates fairly humid air. if you have plans to head out later on keep cool drinks handy. winds not strong so that's not helping you out. 77 in trenton. 76 in allentown. reading up to 78. 75 in wilmington, 6 in millville. 66 in cape may. now, each model run on future tracker 6 that comes out likes to throw a curve ball in there, through the morning we have precipitation over by the shore and that's what the model got right now. there's a which you think of precipitation down to the southwest. it has a chance of moving closer to philadelphia as we head up to 3:00 p.m. don't be surprised if you see a shower or thunderstorm in some areas farther north than where we are seeing the right now. later in the afternoon there's a

possibility of pop up here and there. most of the area at any given moment appears to be dry. if you have plans to be at the barbecue or ceremony this afternoon you want to keep your eyes on the app. generally speaking you should center most of the day dry. we get into the evening hours there's a line of showers that comes out of the northwest that kind of falls apart by 11:00 p.m. overnight tonight it's dry and we'll break out the clouds and start to see stars coming out from behind them. humid in the lehigh valley, cloudy, 82. yes there's a chance of a thunderstorm or shower popping up later this afternoon and evening. mostly you should be dry. down the shore we're dealing with the active showers and maybe a thunderstorm popping through at times. 74 is the high there. you might have noticed on the model run after we get past 3:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. there's a diminish rainfall down the shore. i don't know that it will completely dry out and getting

better. 79 degrees is the high in philadelphia. mostly cloudy and shower or thunderstorm can't be ruled out. for the phillies and nats, phillies back home, nationals coming to town, cloudy, 675 is for the first pitch, 70 in the 9th inning. you have to be wary of a possibility of shower or thunderstorm popping during the game. bring along rain gear and adam and cecily will be along on "action news" and they will show you future tracker and radar and let you know if anything is going on. cloudy overnight a shower or thunderstorm early in the evening and it dies down in the evening hours. 79 degrees, mostly cloudy skies and we've seen decent breaks of sun, but we may be clouding up again eventually as well. through the afternoon you will have to be on the look out for shower or thunderstorm popping up. most of the rain down by the shore. sun returns tomorrow, less humid, 87, warm. 80 on wednesday, partly sunny,
