behind. gray hall is in springfield county that was hit pretty hard today. >> reporter: it was, it was a wild weather day for the folks here in delaware county. crews left the yard in springfield, you see the huge stump indicative of how big the tree was and if you look up at the roof here you see damage left by the massive tree, and most folks we talked to were thankful there was no injuries. a lot of branches, the bulk of the tree, if it hit someone they would be dead or seriously injured. >> it rattled nerves intel wear county. it snapped trees like twigs tonight was quite the afternoon shocker. >> we were just eating and heard a big bang, i look out my window and the tree is completely down.

one woman was driving with her two kids when a tree fell on to her car. >> it was a loud crash on ton of my car and glass broke on the left hand side. i wanted my kids to be okay and they are thank god. >> people know it could have been worse. >> this is unbelievable. that is a 12 to 15 ton tree easily. if that wasn't a brick house that would not have stopped until it hit the ground. >> the tree that fell during the storm is likely over 100 years old. the neighborhood is dotted with trees and when severe weather strikes, there say fear that one will come crashing down. >> springfield is dotted with old trees and it's a scarey thing. we wanted it replaced and now god has replace tropical disturbance for us. >> cathy says the tree that fell on to her roof landed on the spot her ground daughter sleeps when she visits.

porch overhang was lifted up on to the roof. city engineers are now assessing the damage. the storms did not long long but they were powerful. >> the sky darkened and heavy rain made it hard to see the skyline. melissa magee is live at the "action news" big board with the latest. >> rick and monica it was shortly before noon we were tracking the showers and storms moving west, across the delaware and lehigh valley. the storms today at 10:00 in the morning well north and west of our viewing area, but as we put it into motion, you can see the line of showers and storms extending from the poconos down south and westward and lancaster county. as we press forward 11:30 to noon we had the showers and storm as long the i-95 corridor.

outside an mcdonald's, the 24-year-old victim was found in the drive-thru lanes. sara bloomquist is live with the latest on the police investigation. >> reporter: rick, the district attorney's office and norristown police are conducting a joint investigation into this homicide, this is a busy spot in norristown and the victim was found dead in the drive-thru lane of the restaurant. police were called at 11:39 last night after neighbors heard numerous shots fired and then screams. arriving officers discovered the victim, a 26-year-old male with six gunshots to his torso, he was pronounced dead at the scene. police told "action news" that the suspect fled from the mcdonald's parking lot to the transportation center across the street.

an elderly woman missing for to days is safe and sound at home. joyce laurie who has alzheimer's was located today. she disappeared on monday when an officer told her to move her car. she was with her granddaughter at the time who was at the parking authority paying off a traffic ticket. now, to damaging storms that hit our area, many folks are without power and the cleanup continues from all that trees that fell. in philadelphia a tree found on a cab, when it was parked. he was playing a game on his phone waiting for his next ride and then the storm hit fast and hard. >> all of a sudden kaboom. the car actually -- part of it lifted off the ground from the weight of the tree. and i didn't know what happened, i was scared. >> freeburg was not hurt but the window was shattered by the tree branch.
