nightclub when shots broke out. police set off a controlled explosion at 5:00 a.m. there is no word on how the gunman died or the conditions of the injured. we are awaiting a briefing from police, stick with "action news" for updates on the breaking news story. we want to get you caught up on breaking news we're following from west philadelphia. a massive apartment fire is now under control. you can see the smoke coming from the scene there. we know that the fire has forced at least 100 people from the home. the fire actually started at the netherland apartments on the 4300 block of chestnut street. the fire was confined to the 4th floor. red cross this morning is opening a shelter at the victims on the 4200 block of ludlow street. a residenter -- resident responded and has reaction to the fire.

florida, went to the venue to kill christina grimmie. the suspect from the case is not from orlando, the suspect traveled to orlando to commit the crime and had plans to travel back to where he came from. >> reporter: police say loibl fatally shot himself after killing christina grimmie. unarmed guards at the venue checked bags and purses, but did not have a metal detecter or pat down. christina grimmie went from youtube to the voice. christina grimmie's brother jumped on loibl after he fired the fatal shots and grim msm -- christina grimmie's brother jumped on him.

can help people through the grief. >> reporter: the family have been dealing with tough times for a while her mother has been battling cancer for years, mayor brown said evesham township will hold a vigil in christina grimmie's honor monday night. in medford, jeff chirico channel 6 "action news." throughout the morning, stick with "action news," coming up in the next half-hour, we'll share reaction from the music world, the attack has shaken some of the biggest names in the business, especially a big star she toured with. developing overnight, philadelphia police are looking for aman who slashed two women in center city. police say around 2:00 a.m., the women got into an argument with the man in the 1300 block of locust street. the man pulled out a box knife and cut them on the chest arm and leg. witnesses say the suspect was wearing a dress. police are familiar with the attacker. the search continues this morning.

the women are in stable condition. las vegas police say five pedestrians including three children were seriously injured when a car fleeing an accident scene hit them. two of the children are in critical condition. the accident happened last night in the northwest section of the city. investigators say the suspect jumped out of the car and made a run for it, but later found less than two miles from the scene and taken into custody. returning now to the race for president. democrat bernie sanders and his advisers expected to huddle in his home state of vermont today. sanders is staying in the race until tuesday's primary in washington, d.c. sanders is focused on working with the apparent democratic nominee hillary clinton to defeat trump. clinton holds rallies in pittsburgh and wisconsin battleground areas. president obama will join her in

wisconsin. presumptive republican presidential nominee donald trump delivers a speech tomorrow centering on clinton. clinton lost new hampshire. he said the concern about his can deaz -- candidacy is crazy and contributes to being a quote our side. republican speaker of the house paul ryan is a guest on george stephanopoulos. he distanced himself from trump after a remark made by a mexican judge overseeing a trump lawsuit. a pilot program to equip officers with body cameras. the mayor will hold a conference tomorrow morning to outline the details. the news conference will provide information about what type of body cameras they are considering and how many officers will take part in the pilot program.

septa riders can begin buying new transit cards tomorrow. up to ten thousand riders can bye weekly and monthly passes at 12 stations. it will work like an e-z pass. officials believe the knew technology will cutback on long lines. customer service ambassadors will be available at septa stations to answer questions. the ben franklin bridge is closed so thousands of bicyclists can head to the jersey shore to raise money to fight cancer. moments ago the action cam was at the bridge as many bikers conquered the span as you see here. the bridge will be closed until 7:30 when all the bikers have crossed it. the 65-mile treck to the atlantic city boardwalk is expected to raise well over $1 million for the american cancer society. 7:10 much more to come on "action news" sunday morning.

and family. we'll continue to work with the fbi and part of law enforcement and the orange county sheriff's office on this investigation. at this time i'll turn it over to the sheriff. >> reporter: while this is a tragedy for our community i will reiterate what the mayor said. this community is resilient. this is a time in which we should all come together. the orange county sheriff's office responded with the orlando police department to the initial incident. there were deputy sheriffs involved with the orlando police personnel on the initial entry after 2:00 a.m. this morning. in addition to that, members of the hazardous device team responded and engaged in securing the scene, as well. we have 100 personnel who have

been actively engaged in this incident. i will reiterate that this is a collaborative effort between our federal, state and local law enforcement authorities. at this time, the state of florida center of intelligence exchange center has been activated. the intelligence sharing consortium for this region, we'll be working along with the fbi as well as other law enforcement agencies as this investigation continues. again, what i would say to our community, if you are aware of any of the activities that may have led up to this horrific scene to share that information with your local law enforcement authorities. as we move forward, we will make every effort that we can to insure that this community

being treated as an act of terror. actually, george, an incredible scene described as a shootout at a nightclub. using a bear cat to crash into a wall. 20 people dead. one of the things that struck me, they will cruise every available tool to -- use every available tool to run this down. fbi stated the suspect has all right folks back to the breaking news we're following all morning long from orlando in

terms of the shooting that happened there in the nightclub. we know that police say a gunman went inside a nightclub there and started shooting multiple people are dead. abc news has a special report that we want to take you to right now live. from the briefing right there, the gunman very well prepared assault rifle and handgun and suspicious device on his person perhaps in his car. >> reporter: absolutely, when i was talking to sources this morning before that briefing, it was pretty clear according to sources this person had put a lot of time and effort into the target and what he was going to do. law enforcement officials, again, because of the scale of this, because of all the people shot. that's one of the reasons why they are looking at this as an act of domestic terrorism. we are told by sources they have a good idea who it is. they want to confirm it, look at all leads and all known data bases all known intelligence about the person to get a better

picture to see if he had any support. let's go to the fbi agent brad, it sounds like like a dramatic scene when the police went in with the bear cat and tried to end the hostage situation. >> reporter: it's a situation george where you have to make a call at a certain point to save lives. think about this, you're three hours into the shooting and we don't know how this played out, did he come out and engage the officers and go back in and start shooting again and barricade himself all is unknown at this point. but you've got to be decisive if you're on the on scene commander. we have to stop this before anyone else gets hurt. i want to go down to lauren lister on the scene. what's happening on the scene right now? >> reporter: one thing that has

happened in the last 15 minutes or so, we heard about the possible 30 hostages or people rescued. we did see a few minutes ago, a long line of people mostly men walking down a street this is within this crime scene area. we certainly can't get to this, boarding a bus and taking that bus down towards downtown orlando, we don't know if these were hostages or victims, this is just what's going on at the scene. we've seen fbi go into the scene, as well. there is still a police presence here it's not what it was in the middle of the night and early hours fortunate morning, but still a police presence. interesting at 5:00 a.m., if the press conference when they decided to begin the hostage wreckage and use the explosivec,

we heard authorities talk about the shootout and taking out the gunman. 5:15 a.m. around that time we heard there was silence before, we heard a barrage of gunfire and shortly after that we did see a number of first responders rushing back and forth between the scene and the hospital. that's the latest we can tell you. we did have people who were hear from the nightclub and police took them to police headquarters, they are asking everybody who was there to go to police headquarters, this scene has cleared out of folks that were in the nightclub to our knowledge. just down the street down the way at the end of the block is the hospital where some of the 42 people were transported. it's very close, just at the end of the block. this is the one that's on lockdown since 2:00 a.m. right at the time of the shooting. this is where family and friends have been gathering trying to find information about their loved ones.
