the deadly mass shooting in u.s. history. investigators say the gunman pledged his allegiance to isis before he killed 49 innocent people inside an orlando nightclub early yesterday morning. >> the suspect, 29-year-old omar mateen was killed in a shootout with police. president obama was briefed by the fbi and revealed new details about omar mir seddique mateen in the last 30 minutes. >> appears the shooter was inspired by various extremist information that was disseminated over the internet. all those materials are currently being searched exploited so we will have a better sense of the pathway the killer took. >> the fbi is expected to reveal more information in a news conference in the next 30 minutes we'll bring it to you live when it happens.

>> in the meantime we're learning about the victims of the deadly attack. chad perdelli live in orlando, florida where many families are reeling from the tragedy, chad. >> reporter: yeah, rick we're here at a senior center in orlando at a location where authorities are on hand and relatives or loved ones of the victims can come him we've seen a steady stream of relatives making their way here trying to find out if their loved one is at a local hospital or medical examiners office. the medical examiner officer and emergency responders in full protective clothing spent the night removing the dead from the pulse nightclub. detectives will reconstruction the shooting rampage that killed 49 and injured dozens of others. a mother and daughter drove from

lafayette, louisiana. they don't know the fate of brother and son frank hernandez who was with his boyfriend who was shot, but survived. >> i started running, and he looked he don't see my son. >> we're trying to find my brother frank hernandez. we want to know if he is okay. >> reporter: other relatives arrived already aware of their loved one's fate. >> have you heard news, either way? >> yes, i saw on the news, his name is over there, already. >> you know he has passed away. >> yes, officer went to my house last night and he let me know with the information i gave to them. >> reporter: as parts how do you deal with that? >> reporter: authorities say omar mateen opened fire on the 300 or so nightclub patrons around 2:00 a.m., he pledges allegiance to isis, but harbored

homophobic views and president obama called it an act of terrorism and hatred. while the mourning will continue for many, michael hoffman who hails from northeast philadelphia is feeling blessed this monday he left the nightclub one hour before the shooting. display guess god told me it's time for you to go. get out of the club, i guess he knew something horrific was going to happen. >> reporter: and authorities held a briefing at 7:30 a.m., they are expected to hold another one within the next hour. they didn't release a lot of new information earlier this morning, but they did say they did not believe that omar mateen acted with anyone else in the attack, but they say the investigation is early on in the process and more leg work to be done. again, another press conference is scheduled within the hour and we'll bring that to you.

chad perdelli channel 6 "action news." >> "action news" has confirmed that a philadelphia native is among the people who survived the terror attack. crowning woman was shot and hospitalized in orlando yesterday morning, katherine scott is live in the logan section of the city with more from the victim's family. katherine. >> reporter: sarah, this has been such an agonizing time for all the families. this morning in logan we spoke with the extended families of one of the survivors of the massacre in orlando. patience carter was shot in the leg, she grew up in philadelphia and went to high school and a student nyu. she was in florida on vacation with one friend. on sunday they learned she was shot in the leg and in the hospital with stable condition. a friend survived is stable. one of the her last social media post her family saw was on

saturday saying she was heading out to downtown orlando. >> i saw something on facebook the shooting, i'm sitting there, like, oh, my god, i hope she was not involved because she said she was going out that night. my mom came in, she said you know patience got shot she was at that party. i was like oh, my gosh, it was worrying me before my mom came in. what if she was there and she was there. >> she was there to promote make a dollar that's posted on youtube. she is in the hospital in stable condition. there are a lot of families who are hoping to say the same thing about their loved ones. katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. the city of philadelphia is currently planning it's own tribute to honor the victims in orlando. the memorial will tames later tonight. >> reporter: that's right, rick, the vigil is expected to takes place at 6:30 behind me on the north side of the city hall. city officials say they are in the early stages and harshing out the details and expect a wide range of speakers and talking to philadelphia police because they expect a large crowd. >> they need to come together in this moment of silence and find strength. this weekend's pre-planned philly pride parade and festival coincided with the devastating news and this sunday, they carried on with heavy heart and extra police security. >> yesterday thousand upon thousand also of people gathered for pride which is supposed to be celebrating livingunaapologe.

>> reporter: outside flags are lowered to half staff including the american flag and the rainbow flag. several people we spoke to plan to take part in the vigil. >> i think it is important because it shows respect. they may not be from philadelphia or cover visiting on that particular day. at this point we have to support each other. >> i love how things are happening, communities are coming together, it's great. >> reporter: and the director of the council of american and islamic relations said he will have a briefing at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon at 15th and cherry there they expect to have leaders from muslim, christians and jewish faith. the city has not said who will be speaking. they are planning this out. they have not specified if any religious leaders will be speaking at the event.

people choose lives of service in law enforcement. thank you to the people who rendered care at the scene, the "d" ocs, the nurses and emts. this is a federal terror investigation led by the fbi with the assistance as we always do of our state, local and federal partners. the reason for that is there are strong indications of radicalization by this killer and potential inspiration by foreign terrorists organizations. we are spending a tremendous amount of time, as you would imagine trying to understand every moment of this killer's path to that terrible night in orlando to understand his motives and details of his life. you will notice that i am not using the killer's name, i will try to not to do that. part of what motivates sick people to do this kind of thing

is some twisted notion of fame and glory. i don't want to be part of that for the sake of the victims and their families. so that other twisted minds don't think this is a path to fame and recognition. while i give you a sense of what we know so far and tell you about what i can about our past contact. we're going through the killer's life especially his electronics to understand what we can about his path abbey see if anybody else was involved directing him and assisting him so far we see no indication this was a plot directed from outside the united states and that he was not part of any kind of network. >> you've been listening to fbi director scrapes comey updating updating -- james comey updating the media on the investigation. we'll continue to follow this story and have a live report on
