following the death of a 2-year-old boy. >> and a democratic senator has ended a 15 hour filibuster to push for gun control. >> but the big news is a car chase that led to a fire. in chain of events began at 5:30 this morning when a man tried to stop an alleged thief. annie mccormick is live now with more. >> reporter: rick and sara, behind me you can still see the damage behind me this is where the van crashed in front of this hair salon. no charges are filed but both men involved could face charged. surveillance video from a morrisville barbershop. where police say the tables were turned on an alleged thief. the driver was chasing him jumps out fires at least two shots

hitting the man in the arm. the shooter told him he was the original victim. >> a man observed a male breaking into a car in front of his apartment, he runs out and chases the male and he jumps into another car. >> it started at an apartment complex a mile away and the alleged thief tried to break into this honda. can you see where the shooter runs after the man, the video shows police arrived moments later with the shooter on the ground next to his car you can see the gun on the hood of the car. >> this happen sod quick, it was so quiet and then we thought we were dream, it hit so hard it rocked the whole building. >> the jolt rocked joe out of bed in his apartment attached to the hair salon. the shooter was immediately taken into custody. back out here live police say they believe that the jeep that

was used was stolen and they say that the driver of that jeep was shot in his elbow and was taken to a hospital in new jersey, his elbow is shattered and expected to have surgery. police are not releasing the names of the men involved but charges for both of them could come as soon as tomorrow. annie mccormick, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. philadelphia city council is preparing to take a final vote on the controversial beverage tax. this alive look at council in session at city hall right now. council could give final approval for the beverage tax. the proposal by mayor jim kenney of 3 cents an ounce is cut in half to 1.5 cents an ounce. it would raise $1.5 million for pre-k and parks and libraries.

but some say it's a tax that will hurt the city poor. and the beverage industry expected to sue if the tax is approved. as we go live outside sky 6 hd showing you a gloomy scene at penn's landing. meteorologist, david murphy, joins us from the "action news" big board. >> we have been in the gloom all morning long and we are tracking showers and thunderstorms, now it looks like the storms are beginning to die down a bit. we have one recent lightning strike around wilmington, delaware, and that is off the map. we see last lingering shower activity in philadelphia and pushing into salem county, are you dealing with that over another hour and a half or so. and trailing bits of precipitation that will frankly take until 2:00 and 3:00 before they all get out of here.

after that it's a spotty, lighter shower. some roads are a little bit wet when have issues out there. the wide view looking out towards pittsburgh and state college shows you a big cluster of drenching downpour producing thunderstorms, watch how this coxs to the east in the beginning of this view and starts to curve a bit to the south. you see how this stuff here is curving to the south, the general flow of this precipitation makers to be to drop them down to the south, as a result we think most of that will miss us. another two maybe three hours of this back and forth precipitation and then things should get better. 66 in philadelphia with the rain still falling but once the rain gets out of here we see the numbers come up. 68 in allentown and 65 in cape may, and going for a cooler high today than what we had the last couple of days, 74 well below the average of 83.

and tomorrow we come back on up with the numbers. could see normal shower or thunderstorm. we'll talk about that in the rest of the exclusive accuweather forecast. we'll have an update on the weekend too. >> thank you david. in other news, jury deliberations have resumed in the corruption trial of congressman, chaka fattah, the jurors got the case late yesterday afternoon. fattah is accused taking illegal grants and loans. charged with racketeering and fraud. disney is considering changes after the alligator attack that killed the 2-year-old boy. charges are not likely for the parents of lane graves, who was snatched by a gator and dragged into a lagoon and his body way was found yesterday. they are considering adding gator warning signs on disney

properties. disney is the parent company of 6 abc. president barack obama is flying to orlando right now to meet with the nightclub attack survivors and the victim's families. this is his tenth visit to a location of a mass shooting. marcy gonzales is live with more. >> reporter: sara the president only plans to be here for a few hours but so many people coming by here leaving flowers and cards, feel the visit will have an impact as this community and the entire country continue grieving. today's funerals were held for the first of 49 people killed inside of pulse nightclub as president obama and vice president biden visit orlando to greet grieving families and survivor's stories that are still emerging. >> i ended up in the bathroom. >> investigators remain focused

on omar mateen's wife on whether she knew of his plans and investigators delve furnish into his background. >> he is seen here in the documentary the big fix at the site of 2010 bp oil spill. years later his alarming words cost him north job at a florida courthouse. >> there was a comment made about his allegeance to the ft. hood shooter. and both investigations into him determined he was not a threat and both guns were bought legally and the owner of another gun shop said he turned him down two weeks earlier when he tried to buy body armor and bulk ammunitions and said authorities were notified. >> no comment on that yet from the fbi, here in orlando the

focus remains so clearly on the victim. live in orlando, marcy gonzales, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. a democratic senator ended his nearly 15 hour filibuster with signs of movement in the gun debate. chris murphy was on the senate floor. he finished with a large picture of dillon hockley killed in the sand hook shooting and ended with promises with votes on two measures, one recented people on the terrorist watch list from getting guns and others expand background checks at gun shows and internet sales. and a major break through for the egypt air investigation. the cockpit voice recorder has been located. and big changes coming to the 30th street station.

crews have pulled the cockpit voice recorder from egypt flight 804 from the mediterranean sea, the black box

is damaged but the most important part is pulled from the recorder, that comes one day after crews spotted the wreckage. the plane was traveling last month when it crashed and killed all 66 people on board. the army is investigating after a national guard soldier in arkansas died during training. officials have not said how 32-year-old specialist klein died but that it was not the rupt of a weapon or vehicle accident. klein was training at the fort chaffy center last night and later died at the hospital. the army will thoroughly investigate. a short able of air traffic controllers could mean more delays at the airport. they told congress that the delays are getting worse because there is not enough trained controllers to handle all the flights. the number is at a 27 year low and declined further in the first three months of the year.

part of it stems from a hiring freeze in 2013. and the faa is aware of the problem and taking steps to fix it. researchers are trying to prepare for a strong earthquake in california. they simulated a 6.7 magnitude quake to see how this would affect a six story test building, the same size quake that rattled north ridge in 199 4. dozens of cameras and sensors recorded the test. gas station attendants had to swoop in and rescue a trapped bird, or eagle. carson went z reported this and tweeted. praise the lord for the attendants with the garden sheers and the one with the leg kick. the eagles traded up to pick him as the overall draft pick.

later tonight thousands of atlantic city casino workers are expected to decide whether or not to go on strike. employees at caesars ballies and tropicana are considering whether to join striking workers at the trump taj mahal. an extenned walkout could disrupt the casinos as they are beginning to recover. the reopening of the revel property is delayed again, city oils say the resort does not have the required permits and inspections, the owner wants to open 900 hotel rooms but it's unclear when that may happen. a leading doctors group are requiring students to start no earlier than 8:00 in the morning. the group says the later start would lead to better health and better grades but require a big adjustment.

85% of all public high schools currently start before 8:30. the water woes of flint, michigan, have created a crisis of confidence in the nation's drinking water. here in philadelphia, senior volunteers are keeping eyes and instruments trained on the local supply. tamala edwards has more. >> they are call the seniors in the park admission corps. >> we want to set an example for our children so they know that growing old is nothing to be afraid of. >> the seniors work with students from local schools today it's fifth graders from the john b. kelly elementary school. >> these are our future leaders he want them to be educated and peak their interest in science.

is here now way closer look at that forecast. and might want to keep the umbrella just close enough. >> another couple hours at least. stormtracker 6 live double scan shows you that we do indeed have rain across a portion of the region. this is on and off since dawn. we have the lightning box in the upper right hand portion of the screen. it's reading zero because over the last half hour we see the lightning fall off the map but we are looking at a good cell on the map in deerfield 12:25 and shiloh 12:25. and as we move this up the line it will be more or less heading towards elmer at 12:49. and we'll track this one more time. over here farther to the east. ewing, glassboro and franklinville are among the areas seeing this coming

through. it only takes a half hour for the front of the rain to go to the front of the hour. it could be if you have plans to go out in these places, if you hold off for 20 or 30 minutes before this heavy rain starts you'll find heavier conditions out there and there are a couple of additional showers coming down out of the north. the lightning tracker jumped up to 11 and that is for a system we saw in central pennsylvania. no lightning in any of this and just dropping down from the north and will diminish over the next couple of hours. as we take a look outside we have cloudy skies of course, the action cam was out earlier and the clouds are a part of package all morning long. might get breaks of sun later today but we have to wait for those last couple of showers to come through before that happens. 66 is your current temperature and winds are light out of the east at 3 miles per hour. as we look at numbers across the area. 66 in philadelphia and 70 in

trenton and 68 down in dover, 65 in the boards at cape may. and stormtracker 6 live double scan picking up the story and we are down to just a couple of spotty showers and most of that stuff wraps away from us to the north and west. up to 2:00, 3:00 a couple of spotty showers left and then mainly dry. afternoon clearing and 77 is your high. down the shore we get up to a cool 68 degrees mostly cloudy with the afternoon drying as well. maybe waiting until later in the afternoon to get the showers out of the 74 is your high if philadelphia, the chance of sunshine in the afternoon and the only thing we are worried about tomorrow is another heavy shower or thunderstorm in southern delaware or cape may county, new jersey, in the morning. not even sure that will happen but there is a chance. a damp start transitions to late sun and tomorrow that morning

rain in south and southern delaware and extreme south jersey, giving way to a nice day overall with an afternoon high of 78. weekend is looking great. beautiful on saturday 83 and 85 on father's day and sunny and nice as well. monday we start to heat up again for the first official day of summer with a high of 89 degrees, it gets hot and humid on tuesday with highs in the low 90s and could be an afternoon thunderstorm or shower. and then 90 on wednesday. more ahead on "action news" at 12:30, broadway takes its shows on the internet. can you watch the first ever performance streamed live. those stories and more up next.
