girl to kaplan. >> right now we're coordinating with authorities in lancaster county to interview these children, put them in safe environment and as of right now all three suspects are in custody. >> we have multiple crews headed to bucks county right now. team coverage coming up on "action news" at 5:00 and 6:00. >> new at 5:00 a task that no pet owner wants to be faced with digging up the remains of their beloved former dog or cat. but that's exactly what some have been asked to do as a delaware spca office prepares to close its doors for good. it's a situation that some are literally calling a nightmare. >> this as others are renewing their push to save the officers from sluing down. "action news" reporter john rawlins is live near the spca office in stanton with more. john. >> reporter: hi, guys. well, there are some stunned upset folks here. earlier this month it was announced the spca would close this facility.

it's expected the acreage would be sold for something in excess of $9 million. what the upset is all about is that because some of that land is this well known pet cemetery and word sort of leaked out this week that if owners wanted to get the remains of their beloved pets they would have to come and dig them up themselves. much of the afternoon looking for his dog carry. she was buried years ago in this sprawling pet cemetery. today he removed her marker and bags remains. >> we'll put her away and have her probably cree mated and put with our other collie. not knowing what's going to happen here. just can't county on it. >> reporter: here is the delaware spca in new castle county. because of money troubles it closed its doors today, the animals up for adoption will be moved to another facility down state but people who paid to have their pets buried here over decades learned if they wander the remains, they will have only until the end of the of the month apparently before the cemetery will be bulldozed. >> as a volunteer, i am able

to help them. i have worked out with the staff here to make sure that people can contact me and other volunteers to make sure they can get their pets. >> reporter: using orange flags volunteers have so far marked 1300 graves. so far, though, they have not found some of the more unusual of the buried. >> there's a grisly bare from yellowstone park. there is a 250-pound tortoise. there's a goat. >> reporter: and there's at least one hoarse a mare buried here in 1998. >> arranged this with mr. caldwell the director here and i had to put down and buried here. >> reporter: she was buried right here. you would like to find the grave. >> yes. >> reporter: we spoke with one board member by phone. we didn't get much clarity as to why all this is happening this way. volunteers also frustrated there is now anline petition urging the board to open up in its decision making process

and to at least reconsider closing this facility. there is a link to that petition on our web site, 6abc.com. live in stanton delaware, john rawlins channel6 "action news." rick. >> john, thank you. right now family, friends and fans are gathering in south jersey to honor and remember christina grimmie. grimmie a rising pop star was shot outside of her own concert. as we look live inside of the fellowship alliance chapel in medford burlington county thousands are expected to show up tonight to say their final goodbyes. grimmie was killed nearly a week ago while signing autographs after a performance in orlando. her brother marcus tackled the shooter. this man 27-year-old kevin loibl killed himself. grimmie grew up in marlton and went to cherokee high school. she was discovered as a singer on youtube and went on to take third place on a national talent competition. she was 22 years old. >> now to the latest out of orlando and the investigation into last sunday's deadly

shooting at pulse nightclub. tonight the fbi confirmed agents spoke way gun shop in florida where the shooter asked to buy body armor and about a thousand rounds of ammunition and officials are taking a closer look at the gunman's text messages the night of the shooting specifically those he sent to his wife. we'll have more on the investigation in orlando coming up for you tonight at 5:30. the investigation in florida continues on a somber day for many in south carolina. a year ago today, a gunman killed nine people during a bible study at the emanuel ame church. today relatives of the victims joined governor nikki haley at this memorial service. the government is seeking the death penalty against that alleged shooter dylann roof. in honor of sunday's shooting uber is offering discounted rides to and from places important to the lgbt community this weekend and that includes here in philadelphia. uber users will get a discounter of $20 per ride to and from several locations in the neighborhood including most of the city's gay bars.

the offer is limited to two rides per person and runs through monday night. and stay with "action news" as tributes to the victims continue into the weekend. we'll have the latest developments on air and online as well as outer loop social media platforms for you. >> new at 5:00 now, we're hearing for the first time from the dad who avoided what could have been a real disaster in the stands at citizens bank park last night. he caught a foul ball one handed with his daughter and a food tray in tow. he spoke with "action news" reporter gray hall this afternoon. gray is live in south philadelphia with more. gray. >> reporter: hi, rick. well, while this was a very exciting time for that dad, he says at no moment was his daughter in danger when he made that very impressive catch. he says he was holding his daughter really tightly. >> i think this is going to be an outstanding play by this young gentleman right here. >> reporter: it was a catch that would make any baseball fan envious and brian kucharick made it look so

easy. >> at first i didn't think it was going to get to us but as it kept flying and tailing i'm like i don't know it's getting kind of close. i kind of adjusted a little bit put my hand up and it just went right into my hand. >> reporter: he had his four-year-old daughter emily in his lap and a tray full of food but despite those obstacles the dad made a one hand catch on a line drive during the blue jays phillies game thursday night. >> i was a little surprised it was as solid in my hand as it was. i started looking around many people were clearing. >> reporter: he's been playing the game for decades and when the ball came his way he says it was a natural reaction. >> i've been playing for years and years. i'm used to being in the outfield so i kind of treated it the same. i'm looking at it judging it. >> reporter: for this dad this was more than just another picture perfect catch at a major league baseball game it was the last memory he'll share with his four-year-old daughter for years to come. >> she's four years old. she hasn't seen it yet. i'll save it everywhere and show her later on. i mean the ball is hers.

and lehigh valleys. a bit of a breeze kicking in at this hour. check out the high so far across much of the midatlantic region. new york city 76, 84 so far today in philadelphia. 73, though, in richmond, virginia and here's the reason why. it is cooler to our south. as we look at satellite6 along with action radar you can see we had a couple of showers earlier today across south jersey and delaware. now, those are dipping down across areas in the virginias. for our region it's mostly clear, it is quiet and we are drying out. so, if you're out on the town here on this friday, 7:00 p.m. that temperature 80, partly sunny and dry at 8 o'clock, mostly clear at 9 p.m. and a temperature of 71 in the upper 60's on the way at 10:00 and 11 o'clock tonight. we'll talk about what's ahead. we've got a stellar weekend on the way. low humidity as well. and a brief heatup on the way as we get into next week for the official start of summer. we'll take a closer look at that plus a preview of father's day. it's all coming up in the accuweather forecast guys. >> okay. >> thank you. >> time right now for a check of that "action news" traffic report friday night there let's go live to autumn marisa

in for matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center. >> lie, rick and monica. at a standstill on the roads. the good news is it's friday so just be patient. going to take a look at the schuylkill expressway. check out these eastbound lanes from the vine street expressway out towards the blue route and the turnpike right now. taking you 75 minutes and in those eastbound lanes not doing much better but 50 minutes there. so, again, a little over an hour, a little under an hour either way on the schuylkill really slow going. taking a look at the big picture speeds in the teens dropping down into single digits in certain locations. blue route very slow from saint davids down to 95 right now and town in delaware if you're headed to firefly expect delays on the southbound lanes of route one so keep that in mind. admiral wilson boulevard nice and slow because of that closure on 38. we'll bring you an update in the next half hour. back to you rick and monica. >> all right we'll see you then. much more still ahead on "action news" tonight nba star steph curry's wife goes on the attack. coming up in sports why she called the league rigged ahead

>> crews recovered the second black box from the wretch wreckage of egyptair flight 804. officials say they have more hope they'll figure out why the airbus crashed into the mediterranean last month. 66 people were on board the flight en route from paris to cairo. both the u.s. and france are sending investigators to egypt to help with the probe. police are looking into the mental health of the suspect in the murder of a british lawmaker. investigators are also trying to find out 52-year-old thomas mayor had links to right wing extremism. jo cox was shot and stabbed to death on a street in her northern england constituency yesterday. player was arrested shortly after but he has not been

of philadelphia and we are picking up some very light showers and some precipitation across this region. this will not difficult our weekend because we have high pressure that will remain in control leading to mostly sunny skies for the most part. right now in philadelphia 79 degrees although earlier this afternoon at about 3 o'clock we had a temperature of 84. 4 o'clock this afternoon we were down to 80. right now in the 70's. that front has yet to converge in wilmington, temperatures there are still in the 80's. 82 in reading but for areas south and east, 78 in millville and cooler at the coast in cape may coming in at 71 degrees here is satellite6 along with action radar. you can see we had a weak disturbance that moved through earlier today across areas in south jersey and delaware. a lot of that moisture starting to push down into our south and we're breaking out underneath a mostly sunny to mostly clear sky across the region as high pressure to the north notches southward as we go throughout the rest of our weekend. so the call from accuweather for the rest of tonight we have a moonlit sky. dropping down to 60 in

>> ♪ >> we are continuing to follow breaking new. a man was loving with 12 girls in his home. he's charged with sexually abusing one of them is also believed to have fathered two children with her. but the story does not end there. the suspect is 51-year-old lee kaplan. a tip call led to police to his home along the 400 block of old street road in feasterville. according to court documents an 18-year-old girl living in the home was allegedly sold to kaplan by her parents when she

was 14. the parents are identified as daniel and savilla stoltzfus of lancaster. during the 18-year-old's time in the home kaplan is suspected of sexually assaulting her. she would give birth to two children. details about the nine other girls aren't immediately available but right now lee kaplan is facing several charges tonight including statutory sexual assault. he's being held on $1 million bond and daniel stoltzfus and his wife also behind bars. we have several "action news" crews working on this story and we'll bring you the very latest coming up in our next half hour. >> now to the latest in the investigation into the deadly rampage inside that orlando nightclub last sunday. authorities uncover more disturbing details into the history of shooter omar mateen, we are hearing more incredible stories of survival from the victims and the first responders who rushed to the scene. it appears mateen planned for weeks before walking into pulse nightclub and started shooting. in fact a gun shop owner reportedly sounded the alarm after mateen allegedly made

several disturbing requests. 23 people remain in orlando regional medical center tonight six in critical condition since sunday morning's shooting doctors have performed 52 operations now. tonight those victims who are able are reuniting with the first responders who saved their lives. abc's marci gonzalez live in orlando for us tonight with more on all of this. marcy. >> reporter: we're learning much of the attack was captured on surveillance cameras so as investigators go over that utterly chilling video, you can see here people are still stopping by this memorial to mourn. while today more funerals are being held. from the heart wrenching goodbyes to the hopeful reunions, a survivor of the orlando nightclub massacre, one of 20 still hospitalized meeting the heroic officer who saved his life. >> i don't know if we were being shot at. i heard him screaming in pain

and agony but just will to pull him out. that was our number one goal, just to get these people to safe track advertisement as officer omar delgado and his fellow first responders risked their lives omar mateen took the lives of 49 people. in the midst of the terror texting his wife saying he loved her asking whether she'd seen the news. moore mateen indicating she didn't know where he was. she and the two and his father are on the no-fly list as the fbi investigates. federal authorities facing questions about whether this tragedy could have been prevented after alarming claims from the owner of this florida gun store. he says mateen stopped in five to six weeks ago wanting to buy bulk ammunition and body armor including plates like this that can stop armor piercing bullets. [gunfire] >> reporter: the employees immediately suspicious say they refused to sell to him and called the fbi. >> our intuition was correct

and it's just, very sad that we had him that close. it was that close that law enforcement could have got their hands on him. >> reporter: the fbi says agents did follow up with that gun store but because employees didn't get his name or other information, they weren't able to further investigate. live in orlando, marci gonzalez channel6 "action news." rick, back to you. >> marcy thank you. vice president joe biden is calling for banning civilian ownership of assault weapons and high capacity ammunition magazines following the orlando massacre. biden is responding to anline house petition calling for ar-15 rifles to be banned. the petition was created hours after the shooting and merited an official white house response because it exceeded the required threshold of 100,000 signatures. as of this morning the petition has more than 185,000 signatures. new jersey is putting out a warning tonight for anyone who is giving money to help

intersection of 38th and mount vernon. police say a 17-year-old was hit in the left leg. he was rushed to the hospital but he is expected to survive. police have not said who shot him or why. the abington police department is investigating several overnight home break-ins. investigators say there were five burglaries or attempted break-ins within 2 miles. earlier this morning two people in the 300 block of thorpe road in the jenkintown section reported someone trying to break in their home and just a few hours later, three people reported burglaries in the 1000 block of huntington road. in all the cases the suspects were able to get in through unlocked windows. >> a mill for man is facing criminal charges for allegedly sexually abusing children for more than a decade. it's a story our delaware news room has been following today. here's the latest. this is 36-year-old edward arreaga-bravo.

happened in two different homes in the milford area between june of 2005 and june of this year. bravo is being held on $300,000 bond tonight. investigators are still trying to figure out what caused a fire at an apartment building early this morning in chester county. this was the scene along west chestnut street in west chester just after midnight. investigators say the fire started on the third floor. some of the residents needed to be rescued by firefighters who used ladders to get to them. fortunately, no one was hurt. >> they met in philadelphia city hall to talk about ways to stem the heroin epidemic. they talked about increasing access to narcan and also ways to get those addicted to drugs connected to services to help turn their lives around. the city of philadelphia is on pace to have more than 700 deaths just this year from drug overdoses. from our new jersey news room now, medical marijuana is a step closer to reality in the garden state tonight. the state assembly passed legislation allowing victims

the blaze has grown to more than six square miles and heavy winds and extreme heat are only expected to worsen the situation this week. two dozen homes have been destroyed so far. closing arguments will begin monday in the trial of a baltimore police officer charged in connection with the death of freddie gray. caesar goodson was driving the van when gray suffered a fatal spinal injury. goodson faces second degree murder. prosecutors say he failed to buckle gray into a seat belt. he faces 30 years in prison if he's convicted. >> russia's track and field team will most likely not compete in the summer's olympics because of alleged doping. the global governing body for track and field ruled today russia had not done enough to restore global confederate in the integrity of its athletes. last year the world anti-doping agency issued a scathing report saying russian athletes took performance enhancing drugs. russia denied it. international olympic committee will discuss the ban next week. >> time for sports.

in fact drowning is the number one cause of death of children under four years old that's why every year it's important to reteach them those water safety skills. the miller's backyard pool is a place for family and friends. >> i would never leave my kids and go inside but i feel perfectly safe that my girls if they were to fall in this pool or somebody else's pool or water anywhere that they would know exactly what to do. >> reporter: jennifer signs them up for a refresher course every two months with instructor christine simpson. >> their body weights change they grow they want to be able to float. >> reporter: simpson says regardless of how a child learns to swim it's important to reassess skills on a regular basis especially after winter months. >> parents can't assume that they are going to be at the skill level they were at when they get back in the pool the next summer without any kind of lesson imlike with any break in practice swim skills can be lost which can can give kids a false sense of security.

>> ♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program with ducis rodgers, meteorologist cecily tynan and jim gardner. >> it is friday night and the big story on "action news" tonight is the unspeakable crimes that have allegedly been committed and now discovered in this house in feasterville. police say that 51-year-old lee kaplan has sexually assaulted at least one of 12 girls who were living inside his home in the 400 block of old street road. a couple from lancaster county has also been charged and according to police they have

gifted one of their children at least one of their children to kaplan. there is a lot to report here and "action news" reporters dann cuellar and trish hartman are standing by. let's begin with dann at the bucks county prosecutor's office in doylestown. dann, what are the facts as you know them? >> reporter: well, jim, authorities say it is one of the most bizarre cases to ever come out of bucks county. an amish couple accused of essentially selling their daughter to a feasterville man, a man who then had sex with the girl and sired two children. the case came to light when lower southampton police went to the home of 51-year-old lee kaplan at 428 old street road in feasterville to check on the well-being of children. they found kaplan living with 12 females ranging in age from six months old to 18 years old. the 18-year-old told police that she was the mother of the six month old and the three-year-old and that kaplan was the father. kaplan admitted having sex with the girl when she was 14
