father's day. seven years ago today we lost gary, his legacy lives on through the people who continue to join out, continuing to join in the battle against prostate cancer. thousands of runners and walkers stepped out in the sunshine celebrating father's day by spreading awareness about prostate cancer. >> my grandfather had prostate cancer, so our whole family has done it, this is the first year i'm doing it. >> reporter: the 14th annual gary pappa run raises money fore breast and pro state health. our sports director gary lost his battle in 2009, but advocated tireless for men's herlt -- health before he died. >> a gentleman came over and said he is a sure -- survivor, he said every year i get a photograph with you.

crashed into another car, i look over and i seen the gate missing and i heard a splash and i told my friend in the car, yo, somebody just went into the water. the minivan was recovered and no one was inside it. the window was kicked out, the witness said the car was going sofs they could not see -- so fast, they could not see how many people were inside the car. a man was injured overnight hitting a utility pole. it flipped over on browning road in pennsauken, camden county at 2:30 a.m. the driverle crawled out of the wreckage of his car. he was treated at the scene and refused to go to the hospital. no word on what caused him to lose control. police are trying to identify the victim of a hit-and-run who was hospitalized with life threatening injuries.

the man was riding a brac and red mountain bike in the southbound area of the walt whitman bridge ramble. the victim is 25 -- ramp, the victim is 25 to 30 years old. he was wearing geebs -- jeans and white sneakers and hat. the driver who hit him was charged. cadaver dogs were brought to a feasterville home where 12 girls were rescued last week. chopper 6 hd was over the property as the dogs went through the property. they have not found any remains. the girls living in the house with lee kaplan were 6 months and 18 years old. kaplan fathered two children with the oldest girl who was gifted to him by her parents when she was 14. neighbors say they have called police for years about strange things at the home.

>> a former vanderbilt university football player faces up to 25 years in prison for his role in the rape of an unconscious woman he was dating. it took four hours to convict him. he was found guilty of rape and sexual battery. prosecutors say he took the woman into a dorm room in 2014 where he was raped by his teammates. he said he was drunk, prosecutors argue he encouraged

the month of june. you get into the 60s you notice the change. mid 60s it's sticky. this number gets closer to 70 it feels like new new orleans or mi or the golf coast states -- can you feel ghost states. far as humidity on a scale of one to ten, it will feel like 1. we'll have pleasant conditions and we'll keep it that way as the afternoon wears on. high pressure you can see everything wrapping around it in clockwise fashion. we'll see showers and storms along the high plains along the canadian boarder into southern canada and the gulf coast states and along the front range. where the high sits you can't get any clouds let alone showers and storms. we'll get lots of sunshine, and call it toasty.

the front gets closer in between the front and the high, the winds strengthen in the south/southwest. the hottest day of the year is on the way tomorrow in the mid 90s. winds out of the south/southwest at a 5 to 15 miles per hour. the humidity levels are fairly low, so not too bad. in the poconos, 84 degrees in the mountains. the jersey shore it's humid on the water than inland locations. 80 degrees or close to it as the sea breeze kicks in this number drops off in the mid 70s. mostly sunny skies, 6 degrees is the ocean water temperature. there's the moderate risk for rip currents. pay close attention to the lifeguards today as you head into the waters. clear skies, warm, 63 degrees outlying suburbs, 68 for center city. now is a good time to flip on the ac. humidity levels increase throughout the evening.

trish hartman is live at eakens over. couldn't ask for a nicer day. >> reporter: today marks 7 years since we lost our sports director gp -- gary pappa. this event has been held in his memory to raise awareness about prostate cancer. more than 3,000 runners and walkers came out for the 10k or 5k or one mile walk. more than $300,000 has been raised so far for the foundation of breast and prostate here in philly and provides screening and educational programs for men. there are so many inspirational stories, we found a family that participated every year to support their father and grandfather who are currently battling prostate cancer. he said his daughter, a nurse urged him to be more pro active. >> my daughter said no, that's when they found with the biopsy,

they found it. >> yeah and if something is not right, you don't feel right, get checked. >> reporter: such an important message, now, one in seven men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime. men should start screening by the age of 50, earlier if you ever a family history. reporting live in eakens oval, trish hartman channel 6 "action news." >> a man who championed or abused animal has lost his ballots with cancer. george bengal started the humane law enforcement department and headed up the branch for ten years. the military veteran and former philadelphia police officer was a life long animal advocate. he was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. bengal died yesterday with his wife and daughter by his side. he feels 6 the years old, of course he will be missed by many. >> beginning today there are new scheduleses that go into effect for septa, the agency is

an oregon man is accused of groping a 13-year-old girl on an american airline flight from dallas to portland. the teen was traveling by herself when he sat next to her. he leaned against her and placed his hand on her leg three times. he was forced to move, he was arrested when the plane landed. nasa unveiled plans for a fully electric plane that uses electric propulsion instead of burning fuel. it will have 14 electric motors. it could be on the runway in four years followed by a series of five larger electric planes capable of holding more passengers and more cargo. it is part of nasa's 790 million-dollar new horizon initiative. mcdonald's is bringing back the lobster roll.

morning. everybody needs to pay attention to this, you saw the live shot, a ton of sunshine. we're not expecting much in the way of clouds at all. with the angle of the sun being so high you can get a burn in 20 minutes, especially someone with fair skin. between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. apply the sunscreen and keep reapplying it. maybe you'll be okay. reading, 86. 85 in philadelphia. trenton, 86. millville, 84. atlantic city at the airport, 87. slight breeze out of the west at 5 to 15 miles per hour. you can see the shorepoints switching over. here's the sabz -- sea breeze from northern monmouth county and bay breeze in cape may county. you'll switch over in the next hour or so. that's when the temperatures on the beach begin to pull back in the mid 70s. nice stuff later on. satellite and radar, high pressure right there, you can

see on the movement eferlg wraps wraps -- everything wraps around the high in the clockwise fashion. it's like a protective bubble, if you will, it's hard to get any precipitation into one of these domes. as long as it's situated there it will keep most of the united states fairly dry. the pattern overall has not been bad in terms of heat. here's philadelphia, the pattern looks like, we had a huge heat pump high across the heartland of the nation and high plains. every now have and then it shifts to the east and it snaps back like a rubber band and stays hot out west and cool and refreshing along the eastern seaboard especially the mid atlantic and the northeast. looking into the middle of july suggests that that high situated here will shift here, all of a sudden we'll get stained heat east of the mississippi.
