pipe bomb and officials say weapons were actually brought in by authorities. "action news" reporter jeff chirico is live at 35th district headquarters with the details, jeff? >> reporter: well, walter, very unusual situation here. then tire building had to be evacuated just after ten last night, 14 prisoners and 20 staff members had to leave after police found what they believed to be a pipe bomb in a bag. "action news" obtained a photo of the device that officials say wasn't more than about 6 inches or so. it ended up here after authorities with the attorney general's gun violence task force pick up a a man wanted for making a a straw purchase and then brought him here to the 35th for questioning. he told authorities an ak-47 was buried somewhere in the northeast. officers found the gun in the garbage bag and brought it back here and when they opened up the bag they discover the device. the philadelphia bomb squad responded, removed the device and detonated it elsewhere. lieutenant conway tells me it

wasn't ticking and unclear if it posed any threat. as for the prisoners most of them were placed in the van to be transported elsewhere with you the bomb squad moved quickly and cleared district before they could leave so they were just returned to their cells. it is unclear if the suspect is facing any charges. the investigation is being handled by the attorney general's gun violence task force, through the d.a.'s office and at this point our calls there, have not been returned. we are live outside 35th district headquarters in logan, jeff chirico for channel six "action news". >> all right, thanks sketch. police in philadelphia meanwhile are searching for the driver of an suv that plunged into the delaware river, earlier this morning. it happened just before 3:00 a.m. witnesses say they saw a vehicle flying down oregon avenue and then crashed through a gate at columbus boulevard. >> we were at the light at the intersection, so a light, i mean a car comes, flying by, silver, not sure of the model just comes flying by. i'm not paying attention i heard a crash. so i think it crashed in

another car. i looked over and see the gate missing and heard a splash. i said yo, somebody just went in the water. >> marine unit searched the river but as of tonight still no sign of the driver or anyone else who might have been inside that vehicle. investigators are trying to piece together what they found yesterday, inside of a home in feasterville where they say a man was living, with 12 young girls. the oldest of those girls was reportedly given to him as a gift by her parents. police scoured the property yesterday for anything, that could help them tell them more about what was going on inside that home. officials say a 51 year-old lee kaplan did have sex with the girl who was quote gifted to him. we're told she was 14 when she first went to live with him n fact he fathered two children with her. the rest of the children found inside that home are the children of the daniel and seville stoltzfus. the preliminary hearing for kaplan and stoltzfus will be next summer.

forty-nine people were gunned down inside a nightclub in orlando last week and thousands are expected to to attend the vigil to remember lives lost this morning, attorney general lor let a lynch promised a thorough investigation. tomorrow officials will release a portion transcript of the calls between the killer and hostage negotiators. this is as investigators built a profile of who omar mateen was. they will sift through mateen's mean case with his wife to figure out how much she knew leading up to the attack. tomorrow the senate is set to vote on four gun control bills, all the crafted after the massacre, but none is expected to pass. here in our area several events are taking place, as well to remember the victims of the orlando massacre including a special mass inside of a cathedral basilica of st. peter and paul. that is where "action news" reporter christie ileto joins us live with the details, christie. >> reporter: walter, in a half hour that special mass will begin, congregations all across the city are remembering the murdered in

was a hot sun a fair all across the region n fact high topped 90 degrees today and tomorrow, summer officially begins with a sizzle. meteorologist melissa magee is outside enjoying sunshine with the first check of the accu weather forecast, melissa. >> it was sizzling even today on our sunday, nice for dad on this fathers day. we will show you the numbers. high yesterday certainly not as warm as it was today. eighty-five was our high yesterday. today in philadelphia coming in at 91 degrees. normal for us this time of the year is 84. numbers across the region it is 91 in trenton. ninety in philadelphia. we are down to 86 in lancaster. eighty-seven in wilmington. the at the coast it is cooler with that southeasterly wind 71 in beach haven. seventy-six in cape may. seventy-nine in atlantic city at the airport. dew point is pretty low, comfortable. dew points are in the 50's. only place where we are noticing humidity is from beach haven down to cape may especially with that moisture coming in off of the ocean. stepping outside on the town,

cancer, and our whole family has been damage. >> reporter: gar a poppa run was held on the seventh anniversary of gary's death. his six year battle ended in 2009 just before fathers day. after that, the race was named in honor of the six abc sportscaster and still raising fund for the foundation for breast and prostate health. one of the participants was 70 year-old donald, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer 16 years ago after he was urged by his daughter, a nurse, to get checked out. >> doctorate told me, you know, that it is cancer. biopsy found it. >> if i was than the persistent and didn't love my dad so much, who knows what could have happened. >> reporter: for the first time gary's sons played a role with 18 year-old nathanal at the podium. >> too many of you understand what a difficult day this is. just remember that our

delaware. smokey fire was reported just after 11:00 this morning and quickly put under control. no word tonight on the cause but preliminary report suggests that it may have started inside a vending machine. classes let out for summer at tally earlier this month. plenty of dads are getting the royal treatment tonight and today and for some that means a home cooked dinner. head house square farmer's market was bus welling shoppers. by all necessary ingredients. to tables were stacked, stacked high work produce from local growers, flowers, and of course, cookies to cap things off. dad's were also invited to come out and play in fairmount park. please touch museum hosted a fathers day block party. they could play with rockets or have a catch with other fun ways to enjoy a sunny sunday. some people with spinal cord injuries had a experience of the lifetime today in wildwood crest, new jersey. they got to surf thanks to an organization called life holds on. with the help of volunteers people of all ages and abilities got the experience
