borough had been on the force for just a little over a year we understand. the attack brought fellow officers looking for his assailant. for almost three hours police lay siege their target an apartment building and whoever was inside and responsible for ambushing a folcroft officer who was responding to a report of drug activity when he came across several individuals. >> once the officer confronted these subjects there was report of gunfire. assisting officers arrived to find the officer shot several time. >> reporter: tamika daily heard the attack. >> shots pop, pop be pop. i said oh my god somebody's shooting. we come right out the doors. cop then tons of cops coming, they just shot a cop. the night before that it's all this drug activity going on. babadly wounded officer was rushed to the hodge. residents were evacuated.

a state police helicopter was brought in as on eye in the sky and as it flew overhead a large flash bang was fired. s.w.a.t. officers then moved quickly. several women and a man were taken into custody. the man was described as the suspect in the shooting. he was put into this police car. as the officer stood down and departed residents who had been watching applauded the police. explaining. >> we are applauding because they got somebody bad off the streets. if he's going to shoot at a cop he's definitely going to shoot at innocent bystanders and i live right there. that was a widely held sentiment here today in the borough, someone who is willing to shoot a police officer is someone you den need in your neighborhood in other words good riddance. wife in folcroft jong rawlins channel6 "action news." >> john, thank you. in the moments after the attack, a wounded and frantic officer dorman was able to make a radio call for help. here's part of his recording. >> i'm shot in the face.

i'm shot in the face. >> shots fired, shots fired. >> i'm shot, i'm shot, i'm not. >> just after that call, another police officer drove officer dorman to mercy fitzgerald hospital and from there he was flown to penn presbyterian medical center. that is where trish hartman is live with an update on dorman's condition. trish. >> reporter: well, sharrie, officer christopher dorman is undergoing a second surgery here at penn presbyterian medical center. when police updated us a few hours ago he was in critical but stable condition. the chief of folcroft police also told us more about what happened this morning and more about officer dorman. >> he'd been with us a little over a year. outstanding officer. i can't say enough about him. outstanding. >> reporter: folcroft police chief spoke about 25-year-old police officer christopher dorman outside penn presbyterian medical center after visiting the officer who was shot multiple times in the

line of duty. >> i was told by the doctors that thank god he had his vest on. apparently there may have been several shots into his vest. >> reporter: sources say the officer was shot at least seven times including in the face, torso and lower extremities while responding to a report of drug activity behind an apartment complex. covering to the chief the second officer scene drove dorman to mercy fitzgerald hospital in this patrol vehicle. officers could be seen photographing and surveying the vehicle before it was taken away. as officer dorman was transported he was awake and able to speak and gave a description of the suspects. he was quickly transported to penn presbyterian where his family and a number of fellow officers gathered to support him. >> mother and father are here. they're obviously upset but they feel mour more relieved tht he's stable according to the doctorsism again officer dorman is in critical but stable condition. we're told that before becoming a police officer he was a volunteer firefighter in folcroft. police say they plan to give

delaware and also the shore right now 31 lightning strikes just north of cape may wildwood, stone harbor sea isle city getting hammered by not a severe thunderstorm but a gusty thunderstorm with some heavy rain and they have been slow moving so southern parts of cumberland county over 2-inches of rain has fallen so far so flash flood warnings are in effect for the southern part of cumberland county near maurice river up towards cedarville. if you see flooded roads definitely turn around and find an alternate route. couple of scattered storms here this evening if you're heading out on the town this friday night and then we dry it out 8 o'clock and after with temperatures dropping into the lower 70's by 11 o'clock. and also taking those clouds with it. we'll chat about a very comfortable great first weekend of summer. no chance for storms coming up in that accuweather forecast. >> like the sound of that. time for the "action news" traffic report. >> on a friday afternoon we made it. matt pelman standing by in the "action news" traffic center way little wrinkle in the commute.

>> more than one. i think we've got several big wrinkles in the commute. one of them is right here on the schuylkill expressway, brian and sharrie, eastbound side right in the conshohocken curve and you can see it's a broken down tractor-trailer. police out here assisting. it's knocking out the left lane. this means if you're coming east of the valley forge tolls on the schuylkill, you're hitting a wall of traffic from king of prussia into this point at the conshohocken curve. i would not try and get on that stretch of 76. stay on the turnpike. get on the blue route and then use ridge pike or go down to 30, the villanova interchange and run 30 instead of the schuylkill expressway this afternoon. so we have that. and then we also have a pair of broken down vehicles on the schuylkill just east of the boulevard. one blocking a lane eastbound. one blocking a lane westbound. everybody gets to enjoy the fun. there's also a crash on 95 southbound by the vine sitting in the gore point but attracting a little bit of attention there. over in camden on 676 southbound some debris near morgan boulevard is taking out a lane and big problems in burlington county. can you see 295 right here? this is the northbound traffic

>> ♪ >> friends and family gathered to say a final goodbye to a young girl with a bright future. funeral services were held for akyra murray. the philadelphia teenager who was shot and killed during the orlando nightclub massacre. there was not a dry eye at monumental baptist church in west philadelphia for the very emotional tribute today. 18-year-old akyra was on vacation in orlando with her cousin tiara parker and her friend patience carter. they were inside pulse nightclub when omar mateen stormed in and started shooting. all three young girls were shot. but akyra did not make it. patience and tiara survived and they are recovering. that's patience there on the crutches giving a big hug and tiara right there giving a gut wrenching tear filled eulogy calling her cousin her guardian angel and the smartest girl she knows

>> akyra had just graduated from west catholic high school with honors. she was a star basketball player. she was headed to mercyhurst university with a full athletic scholarship and today in prayer, in song and in dance they gathered to remember a victim of this massacre, a young promising life taken too soon. brian. >> all right, alicia, thank you. today president obama designated the country's first national monument to lgbt rights. the stone wall national monument will include the area around the stone wall inn in new york city. the plans for this were in place before the orlando shooting. police raidd that site in 1969 but people inside fought back leading to a week's long protest that turned into one of the pivotal moments in the

it is raining in many locations drain land once again southern new jersey and southern delaware taking the brunt of the rain and the thunderstorms this afternoon. as we look at storm tracker6 live double scan there's a few scattered storms to the north and west or downpours but again the concentration has been in southern areas this afternoon as we close into one location, a couple of pop-ups here, one in chester county right along the pennsylvania turnpike north of downingtown. to the north and east of green lane and parts of berks county a little shower popping up there. these are slowly drifting and not moving all that much so if you see one pop up, there will rain themselves out in that exact location without moving all that much and as we head to the south, in parts of cumberland county still dealing with some flooded roadways there in and around fortescue and moorestown. stone harbor sea isle city just south of ocean city dealing with a nasty thunderstorm that is now beginning to push offer the coast and in cape may you're hearing the thunder and getting a couple sprinkles but this is sinking down to the south slowly. dewpoints in southern areas

even wilmington in the upper 60's to near 70. that is where it's really tropical and muggy and firing up some of these storms but notice how dry it is to the north with dewpoints only in the 50's in the lehigh valley and that dry air will continue to move in. we're in the 80's to the north. we have more sunshine and that drier air. we've seen the rain and it's muggy, temperatures are only in the up are 60's to around 70 degrees. as we look at satellite and radar, notice a lot of clear skies to our north and west. that's going to be pushing in moving this front to the south for the upcoming weekend so for tonight, we're looking at visit to the north and west, 64 philadelphia, 62 in millville, 67 in cape may. a few of those leftover pop-ups here at 7 o'clock this evening but once the sun sets they quickly fall apart along with the cloud cover looking pretty good here and then as we go into 9:30 to start tomorrow morning, it is clear, no matter where you are for the start of the weekend. in fact that four day at 4:00 forecast will show tomorrow's high 87 degrees. it will be sunny, spectacular with lower humidity and then

>> ♪ >> police in north philadelphia are investigating a disturbing discovery and a possible murder mystery. this morning firefighters got a call about a fire in an empty lot in the 1700 block of west allegheny. but when they put out the flames, they realized it was a body on fire. they don't know who the person

is and whether or not his opinion was already dead. they also have not said who they think started the fire. meantime detectives are also looking for a gunman east mount airy. the shooter walked over to a pickup truck and shot a man who was sitting inside the vehicle. this happened just before 1:00 this morning on the 6300 block of magnolia street. one bullet went into a home but did not injure the woman who was sleeping upstairs. the shooting victim was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. >> a plaque honoring a fallen firefighter has been replaced months after it was stolen from a north philadelphia sidewalk. first responders rededicated the new plaque today at engine 45 on west york street. the memorial honors james mcgee who died while battling a blaze back in 1898. the original brass plaque was stolen back in march at the intersection of second and eerie. police are still trying to track down the thief. the action cam was in wilmington today as citizens

>> ♪ >> 4:30 and we continue to follow developing news out of folcroft delaware county where an officer was shot this morning. >> we are waiting right now to get another update from police. we expect that about 30 minutes from now and as soon as it begins we will of course bring it to you. but as of this moment, 25-year-old officer christopher dorman is undergoing a second surgery at penn presbyterian medical. he's been with the force for more than a year. >> he was shot at least seven times while responding to a call about drugs at an apartment complex in the 1600 block of elmwood street. police spent nearly three hours searching the

neighborhood for suspects. at least four people have been taken into that custody for questioning. >> "action news" reporter jeanette reyes continues our coverage today live at the scene in folcroft. jeanette. >> reporter: brian and sharrie, this neighborhood was essentially shut down for several hours as police frantically searched for the person behind this shooting. in fact, throughout much of this organized chaos, the focus was on that building. around 10:00 a.m., residents say gun shots shattered the morning calm along elmwood avenue less than a block away from the folcroft police department. >> we were all in my backyard and i was getting ready to light get on this exercise machine and there were six gun shots about not even 40 feet away from my house. >> reporter: terrified residents took cover as heavily armed atf police officers and a state chopper descend upon the neighborhood shutting down roads and evacuating homes. they zeroed in on this apartment building. >> my dad rushed us inside. we looked out the front door. the cop was rushing by.

>> reporter: folcroft police tell "action news" that 25-year-old officer christopher dorman was dispatched to this building after reports of people smoking narcotics. dorman was shot several times in his face, torso and lower extremities. he was taken to penn presbyterian hospital in critical but stable condition. >> i was told by the doctors that thank god he had his vest on. so, apparently there may have been several shots into his vest. i don't know front, back or both. i'm not sure. >> reporter: meanwhile police activity quickly intensified back at the scene. moments after a flash bang was set off officers emerged from this building and took at least four people into custody. >> my family really respects police officers so i'm pretty sure we're all really sad. >> reporter: now police have not said what connection if any those taken into custody have to this shooting but this is still very much an active investigation. we expect to learn more about this within the next hour. reporting live in folcroft, i'm jeanette reyes for

channel6 "action news. brian. >> all right, jeanette, thanks very much. we have been keeping you up to date with the very latest developments on facebook and twitter all day long and people have shared their well wishes for officer christopher dorman's speedy recovery on facebook as we continue to follow the very latest we'll send out alerts on social media. >> police are on the scene investigating a crash involving an ambulance in bucks county. chopper6 was over the scene near the intersection of old dublin pike and sandy ridge drive in doylestown. an ambulance and an suv collided. we know that at least one person was injured but no other details have been released as of this hour and no one was being transported in the ambulance at the time of the crash. philadelphia police have made a third arrest in connection with the murder of a woman found dead in fairmount park. today police announced keith bullock is now charged with kidnapping and conspiracy to commit murder. toy bryant was found murdered in the park last week near the

mann center. police have already charged siobhan armstrong and shintele smith with murder. police say it appears bryant ode the suspects $800. police are also looking for a man who fired shots in west philadelphia. this happened earlier this month but police just released the video of the incident on surveillance video you can see the suspects grab a gun from a book bag on the corner of 60th and ludlow streets. he then starts shooting at a group of people. none of them was injured. but the suspect was able to get away. if you know anything about this shooter, call police. >> firefighters in burlington county are making progress getting a brush fire under control. this is what the fire looked like at joint base mcguire-dix-lakehurst in browns mills on win. that fire is now 95 percent contained. officials say it burned 220 acres. right now there are no reports of damage to nearby property. crews will spend the weekend monitoring the fire and putting out any hot spots. still no word just yet on how

all of this began. an investigation continues today into what caused an mysterious odor to fill a building on villanova's campus. at least one person was taken to the hospital as a precaution. chopper6 was over the scene shortly after nine:00 at the driscoll hall college of nursing on the 800 block of east lancaster avenue in bryn mawr. police say a number of people reported feeling sick. school officials say they are monitoring the air quality this afternoon. >> time to check in with meteorologist adam joseph. some parts very dry. other parts busy with some rain activity. >> this is beautiful, it's dry, it's sunny,. others going okay shut off the water. where it's raining is where a lot of people are at the shor shore. it's drier to the north of philadelphia with some sunshine but getting rocked south of atlantic city and as far south as wildwood cape may a bit on the drier side with sprinkles but hearing thunder in the distance. it did prompt flood warnings

>> ♪ >> firefighters in california are still struggling right now to contain a fire that officials have called a fire fight of epic proportions. the fire began yesterday near lake isabella in the central part of the state. it quickly spread destroying 80 homes. another 1500 homes are threatened right now and the fire has burned more than 8,000 acres. firefighters say the dry weather and the wind gusts are making it hard for them to get this under control. investigators are still trying to determine just how this fire started. so far still no word from motivational speaker tony robbins today. more than 30 people who attended his event last night in dallas were treated for burns after he encouraged them to walk on hot coles. he's used that exercise in the past to help people conquer their fears. and many people were seen leaving limping. none of the injuries was said to be life-threatening. >> the new york police police department is celebrating a major drug bust that took place at a candy store in brooklyn. police say they found truckloads of heroin and

here on the schuylkill expressway eastbound right in the conshohocken curve. it's been taking out the left lane for about an hour now so eastbound traffic on the schuylkill is parked coming out of king of prussia through this point at the conshohocken curve. again you want to think alternates like ridge pike or route 30 instead. then we had a pair of disabled vehicles on the schuylkill just east of the boulevard. they are both now on the shoulder so that's good news. the lanes are opened in that area. we have concerts tonight the mann music center and the bb and t pavilion. dave matthews is in camden tonight. a lot of people out and about getting out for the holiday weekend they might be trying to go over the tacony palmyra bridge. don't want to do that right now. a slip is coming through headed northbound so we'll see an opening at the burlington bristol bridge. there's the little boat. that's not what the opening is for. opening at the burlington bristol bridge coming up in just about an hour. in burlington county we had a vehicle fire on 295 northbound near mount holly-willingboro. then a crash on the southbound side. so you've got delays both ways especially bad northbound. stick with the turnpike or 130 through burlington county

>> all right, meteorologist adam joseph joining us with the accuweather forecast one are you going to love. >> yes. for the weekend, the first time weekend of summer, humidity drops, the sunshine sticks around and it's perfect no matter where you are going to be. as we take a look at storm tracker6 live double scan, it's a little rocky at times right now especially in southern new jersey, the shore communities with a batch of rain that is beginning to push off the coast and a few peppering the region just to the west of wilmington in the northern part of maryland. a lot of this is sinking to the south and east and a

couple of scattered showers and a quick little downpour north of reading and allentown but again, the thunderstorms are now pushing off the coast of cape may wildwood sea isle city up to atlantic city, a little bit still over the bay that will cross over north of cape may route nine and the garden state parkway but the worst of it is now beginning to push away. temperatures are the warmest to the north and west of town, 85 right now in martins creek, 82 slatington. 78 pottstown, 77 in kennett square and as we head to the south and east because of a wind off the water in addition to some of the rain it's only in the upper 60's to near 70. sounds cool and refreshing. however, it is not. you step out it kind of feels like a steam bath after that rain has passed through spiking the humidity. but we have two areas of high pressure, one over new england another one over the great lakes. the two are going to merge over and east of new england pushing this front to the south finally for the weekend setting up for some wall to wall sunshine. but for this evening, that early isolated downpour or thunderstorm otherwise it

turns clear and comfortable, 58 in the suburbs, 64 degrees for center city. and the day planner here for your saturday 87 degrees in the city of philadelphia, low humidity and again wall to wall sunshine as we top off in the middle 80's during the afternoon and then backing off to around 79 by 8 o'clock and then we kind of repeat it here on sunday. sunshine, a little bit warmer. some areas will touch that 90-degree mark especially philadelphia to the north and west with an easterly wind. it stays much cooler at the shore, only in the upper 70's there. millville at 85 degrees and speaking of the shore, a lot of people heading down there i know in avalon you have the allen man triathlon going on this weekend. you got to watch for the moderate risk for rip currents because of that persistent easterly wind. you'll want to listen to the lifeguards both days. 76, it's going to be much cooler at the shore with that easterly wind but wall to wall sunshine. if you're heading to the poconos looking pretty good there as well. 79 on saturday. sunny and delightful and warm and bright on sunday, low

humidity. can can't complain at 81 degrees. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, upper 80's here for the next three days. again, flawless for the weekend and then on monday we crank the humidity up just a little bit. that brings more cloud cover in and a chance of a downpour or a thunderstorm in a couple of spots but the best chance is going to be on tuesday, very muggy, 87 as a frontal boundary passes through and it should start to wipe away here on wednesday. there could be maybe an isolated leftover downpour on wednesday but overall improving and then it turns very comfortable with sun and clouds thursday and friday with high temperatures in the lower 80's so some thermometers may tickle that 90-degree mark the second half of the weekend but overall no extreme heat or humidity as we go into the next seven days. >> got me all relaxed. >> sitting back and swirling in his chair. >> i have one in my house. >> me, too. >> thank you. >> i guess i need to get one.

in folcroft. john. >> reporter: hi, guys. this was an attack in response -- and response. the attack starts about 10:00 a.m. it was on a young police officer as you've said. one witness said there was a burst of three shots followed by a burst of four shots. the response of course came from the s.w.a.t. team. it all played out where that nondescript apartment house is behind me. for almost three hours s.w.a.t. teams focused on the folcroft station apartments inside allegedly those who ambushed a young folcroft officer this morning as he responded to a report of drug activity. >> once the officer confronted these subjects, there was a report of gunfire. assisting officers arrived to find the officer shot several times. >> reporter: tamika daily heard the attack. >> just heard shots, pop, pop, pop, pop. i said oh my god somebody's shooting. we come right out the door, cops, then it's tons of cops coming, they just shot a cop.
