times he speaks out from his hospital bed, this is as family and friend give time to offer thanks. saturday night, i'm walter perez. the big story an "action news" is latest on the folcroft police office shore was shot yesterday morning. tonight five-year old officer christopher dorman is recovering at penn presbyterian hospital. "action news" reporter jeff chirico is live at folcroft city hall where a large crowd gathered to celebrate this story of survival, jeff. >> reporter: walter, dorman continues to improve, his father told us his condition has been upgraded to guarded. that came as good news to the hundreds gathered here, to thank the man who nearly gave his life. there were cheers, where there could easily have been tears. >> we need to stop, and we need to acknowledge the fact that something miraculous is happening. >> reporter: hundreds lit candles and wrote messages of support to celebrate officer chris dorman, who took seven bullets protecting his tight knit community.

>> i started crying, you know, i know he is one of us. >> which one was it. >> reporter: for many dorman isn't just any copy was born and raised in folcroft and has volunteered as a fire fighter since he was driving. >> he was nice. he played basketball in the back. >> reporter: police say cover man was ambushed responding to a call of drug activity and flown to penn presbyterian where he underwent surgery for shock to the face, chest, leg, groin. >> he is alive. he is doing terrific. he was up ape walking, joking. >> reporter: george dorman says bullet-proof vest saved his son's life. he told the crowd his sonnies a fighter and refusing all pain medication. >> i would be hitting that little red button, every few seconds. he said take it away, i will in the do it. >> would i like to thank police. >> reporter: dorman released this video thanking those who saved him but his neighbors say they are the ones who should do the thanking for a

man who nearly gave it all. >> just every officer out here give their life up for us every day. >> reporter: dorman was a tended a kenney chessany concert tonight and during the show at the link the country music star to acknowledge dorman but mistakenly said, he had died. there is an uproar on social media in response, folcroft police tweet todd kenney chessany he is alive and well, make this right. police arrested daunte brooks island and charged him with two counts of attempted murder and related charges. he is accused of shooting at dorman and another officer. he is being held on million-dollar bail. we are live, delaware county jeff chirico for channel six "action news". >> thanks for that update. we are following breaking news out of montgomery county, officials are on the scene after a body was discover tonight in stoney creek, which flows into the schuylkill river in norristown.

police say that the man's body was spotted near west airy street. investigators are still trying to identify the body and determine the cause of the death. also breaking news out of germantown. police are investigating a woman's death. her body was found after fire fighters put out a fire in the 200 block of price street. when investigators arrived just before 9:00 o'clock tonight they found heavy smoke coming from the back of the house. another person was taken to einstein medical center. no further details have been released about this case and investigators believe the home was abandoned and to try to figure out how the fire started. officials from delaware county, are also investigating a fire that injured one person, tonight. the flames broke out at 7:30 tonight at a home on the 2700 block of belmont avenue right there in haverford township. it took fire crews ab hour to get this one under control. the in the end two houses were damaged. one person was taken to crozer-chester medical center with unspecified injuries. dozens of people hit the schuylkill river trail in center city to day but not for a morning run.

they are volunteering for a watch group intended to cut down on crime that has hit that trail for the past several months. "action news" reporter trish hartman has details. >> reporter: after months of training, volunteers, started patrolling the schuylkill river trail and in an effort to keep its users safe. >> once we began to advertise that we were creating a trail watch, people just stepped up to the plate and said how can i get involved. >> reporter: start helping this week 80 volunteers in plainclothes will patrol the trail and next week organizers say they will be in uniform. >> it will be bikers, walkers, runner, pared up together. >> reporter: at the kick off badgees were handed out to people completed the training which volunteers say was the surprisingly thorough. we learned a lot about trying to pick out features in people and if we see someone quickly try to remember what they look like. >> reporter: police office hours worked the trail say extra eyes and ears will be a huge help. two weeks ago a woman had her

man is recovering after he was rescued from a burning home in germantown. fire started at 5:00 o'clock tonight along 1500 block of

tacoma street. when fire fighters arrived there were reports that someone was trapped inside that home. they were able to pull that man out. he is being treated for second degree burns and smoke inhalation. fire fighters got the blaze under control in 20 minutes and fire commissioner adam thiel even tweeted saying it was a great rescue. and an elderly man is dead after being hit by a train this afternoon in cherry hill, new jersey. it happened just before 4:30 atwood crest station on the 200 block of tindale street. investigators say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. patco temporarily suspended service at that station for three hours while police investigated. two people are dead and at least five injured following a shooting at a dance studio in texas. police say it started when an argument broke out at a private party at the club after midnight. fight then spilled outside where one person pulled out a gun and opened fire. by the time police arrived gunman ran off. police are investigate to go see if this was a gang related

shooting. city officials in orlando say they will create a permanent memorial for 49 victims killed in the pulse nightclub shooting. committee will be established to oversee the process which will include input from the victim's families and the community. there is no word tonight on precisely where the memorial will be placed or when it will be dedicated. the june 12th massacre was the worst mass shooting in modern american history. it has been five months since a man was murdered after being shot more than a dozen times and tonight his grieving mother is sharing her son's dying word with the hope that someone will come forward to help find his killer. here is rick williams with tonight's crime fighters report. >> reporter: julio robbins, remembers her son james walke, the third, fondly. >> he was a special young man, lovable, outing. >> reporter: on tuesday february 23rd, robbins says her son told her that he was heading out, that afternoon around 2:00 o'clock. >> he had went to germantown
