the couple had married less than two weeks ago. police were first called to the scene on the 3100 block of willlets road around 9:45 last night. sara bloom yesist is live with the details. monica and sharrie. 40-year-old paul kuzan is held in custody here at homicide. police tell "action news" he has given a full confession to murdering his wife with a cross bow. police tell us this is a weapon that might typically be used to hunt bears. the couple had been married for just nine days. >> i just heard banging on the door and my son screaming, you know, and someone saying help. >> reporter: margie maldonado described the horrific scene at her doorstep last night when 42-year-old pamela nightlinger came you stumbling through her front door bleeding heavily from a wound to her chest. >> she was in the floor, you know, gasping for air and she just -- it was terrible because blood poured all over

the placism police tell "action news" moment before nightlinger and her husband of just nine days 40-year-old paul kuzan has been arguing inside their home. >> he went and got his cross bow, he loaded it. she was sitting in a chair. he fired one time. >> reporter: the arrow entered nightlinger's chest traveled through the claire and lodged in a wall. she ran to the neighbors who called police. they saw kuzan naked at the front door ranting incoherently. he was taken into custody without incident. neighbors said kuzan had been acting very strangely lately. they called police just last week. >> he was completely exposed. we thought it was his sister, his wife now, we know it was his wife came out with a robe and said he didn't take his medication. >> reporter: others said while kuzan had trouble in the past they knew him as a kind man who would never do something like this. >> i heard the news this morning and i was hysterical. i mean, to us he was a wonderful man. >> reporter: now, the couple each had children from previous relationships. they were not at this home at

the european union. >> britain's prime minister says the u can k will not immediately act on an exit plan and now u.s. secretary of state john kerry is getting involved. abc's elizabeth hur live in new york for us with all the details on this today. hi, elizabeth. >> reporter: well, monica and sharrie, now that the voters have spoken the discussions today involved how and when this breakup will actually happen. well, as you mentioned according to the british prime minister, don't expect him to get the process started. no surprises on wall street with the u.s. stock market closing the same way it opened, down across-the-board. this after britain voted to exit the european union sending traders scrambling, stocks tumbling and 401k accounts dwindling. that's just in the u.s. overseas millions in the uk are now signing an online petition for a do overwith business owners fearing the worst is yet to come.

higher borrowing cost. we are live in new york, i'm elizabeth hur for channel6 "action news." sharrie, back to you. >> okay, elizabeth, thank you. the supreme court issued another slate of rulings today including an historic win for abortion rights advocates. in a five to three decision, the high court struck down regulations in texas that the state tried to impose on abortion clinics. the majority ruled the laws put an undue burden on abortion access for women. today's ruling prompted strong reaction from republicans and democrats. we'll have more on that coming up at 5:30. meantime today the high court also issued a decision to overturn the conviction of former virginia governor bob mcdonnell. back in 2014, mcdonnell was found guilty of violating federal bribery laws. in today's unanimous ruling mcdonnell's actions were called distasteful but not necessarily illegal. his case returns to the lower

courts now. and in a win for gun control advocates, the supreme court upheld a law barring domestic violence offenders from owning a firearm. the six-two decision rejected arguments that the law only covers intentional acts of abuse rather than all acts of abuse. it was a homecoming fit for a hero today in delaware county. a plea shot in the line of duty was released from the hospital. [cheers and applause] that was officer christopher dorman moments after he left penn presbyterian hospital. dorman was shot several times while responding to a routine drug call. officials say the bulletproof vest he was wearing that day may have saved his life. chad pradelli with more on dorman's road to recovery coming up for us at 6:00. new at 5:00 now farmers in south jersey have reason to celebrate, the first corn of the season is ripe and ready for picking already a hot commodity at markets around our area.

new jersey correspondent nora muchanic has more now from salem county. >> reporter: at the busby farm in mannington township workers are hustling through the fields hand picking the first of this year's jersey sweet corn and farmer eric busby says it's just about perfect. >> this corn even if it's early it tends to be somewhat smaller and shorter than main season years but it's just just as sweet and delicious. >> reporter: early corn is grown from seed in hot houses and transplanted into soil labor intensive but with great results. we tasted an ear seconds after it was husked and it's sweet as can be. >> it's like christmas in june you can't get any corn anywhere that is as sweet as jersey corn. >> reporter: the big sign is out in front of the pennsville farm market where customers are tickled that a variety of jersey fresh fruits and vegetables are starting to come in. >> i love jersey corn. i love jersey tomato. i love jersey blueberries, jersey stuff period. >> reporter: last year jersey farmers grew

>> 10 people were hurt when a rally turned violent outside the capitolling in sacramento california. 30 members of the traditionalist worker party gathered to rally yesterday. they were met by 400 counter protestors. folks were stabbed, cut and bruised in several of the fights. two people suffered critical wounds. they are expected to survive. the capitol was on lockdown until all the protestors were cleared. no arrests were made. chipotle is looking to recover from a series of food scares by introducing a temporary loyalty program. sales at the mexican food chain are down 30 percent after an e. coli outbreak and several instances of norovirus. a programmed called chip topia will track how many times vehicles many folks visit.

you could earn a free on tray. entree. chipotle says it could become a permanent addition. >> a local laboratory launched a new noninvasive screening test for colon cancer. atlantic diagnostic labs unveiled the polyp dx test to its clients. it looks for signs of polyps, small growths hiding in the colon that can over time become cancerous. >> the clinicians that helped develop this test said it's a way we can detect them go in there and remove them and we're able to find these small markers that the body has for various diseases. >> the polyp dx test checks urine for waste products made by polyp cells. colonoscopy app visual check of the colon is the traditional way to look for these types of growths but many people sly away from that because it's more invasive. developers of this product say this new simpler test they hope it will encourage many

more people to get screened. >> now, the school is out many teens are sleeping in but parents often wonder if that's good or should they make them get up early. experts say teenagers need more sleep than adults and because of changing hormones they tend to fall asleep later and wake up later. they can easily get sleep deprived though so parents should look out for irritability, difficulty concentrating even nodding off. all of those indicate that they need an extra hour or two of sleep. >> but at the same time they cannot be waking up at noon or so because it will become very difficult to get back on track when the school starts back. >> teens not getting enough sleep are more prone to micro lapses especially when they drive that raises the risk of accidents. experts suggest an electronic curfew as well, all screens off 30 to 45 minutes before bedtime to make sure the light from their electronics also does not disrupt their sleep. >> from our delaware news room now, more than a dozen brides to be are without their

chopper6 rather live over the breaking news. two people have been burned at 23rd and market streets apparently facial burns with one of them having stable vital signs that we're told about an second person injured as well. philadelphia fire and rescue units have been called here, this was a center city electrical substation where they believe a worker got shocked at about 5:55 at 23rd and market. still details sketchy but the worker was conscious when the rescuers arrived. no word exactly what went wrong but again, we have breaking news here from 23rd and market at a substation where apparently at least a worker and one other person have been injured. when we get more information of course we'll bring that to you. meantime needy families in newark delaware are ready to move into some wonderful new houses thanks to the housing authority. today was the grand opening at the alder creek development here. the site underwent a huge renovation with $3.7 million in new construction. these modern quality houses are one step forward to help

north philadelphia and as soon as we know more we'll let you know about what's happening here. >> now to the u.s. supreme court and its ruling today which could impact regulations at abortions clinics across the country. >> the justices ruled five to three today that the texas law imposed such strict guidelines on those clinics it made it nearly impossible for women to terminate a pretty good against and that that is unconstitutional. >> so, what was the texas law in question? it required doctors who performed abortions to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the clinic so they can treat patients needing surgery or other critical care. it also required clinic buildings to have costly hospital grade facilities, regulations there included how wide the hallways had to be, which way the doors swung, floor tiles, available parking spaces, elevator sizes, plumbing, floor tiling and even the angle that water flows from drinking fountains. >> abc u.s. megan hughes live

on capitol hill in washington, d.c. with more on today's ruling and reaction. megan. >> reporter: monica, sharrie, good evening, the reaction here on capitol hill was quick and along party lines. house speaker paul ryan tweeting it was a disappointment minute nor will the leader nancy pelosi calling it an important victory. [cheers and applause] >> reporter: felt like a party for abortion rights groups outside the court after the most consequential ruling in a generation. >> this victory gives us the opportunity to march state by state, legislature by legislature, rule by rule, bill by bill and reclaim women's health and rights across this country 100 percent, no burdens on any woman anywhere. >> reporter: justice breyer writing the majority opinion found texas laws did in fact put an undue burden on abortion access for women. lawyers representing the state of texas and antiabortion activists argued the regulations were about safety. >> i'm clearly pro life but if someone is going have an abortion i want them to have it in the safest possible

all for himself. and watch out, because he will crush you into the dirt to get whatever he wants. >> sources say that senator warren is officially being vetted as a potential vice presidential running mate for hillary clinton. before today's democratic rally in ohio, presumptive republican nominee donald trump took to twitter to call out his opponent. he wrote "crooked hillary is wheeling out one of the least productive senators in the u.s. senate. goofy elizabeth warren who lied on heritage ." trump will return to the campaign trail tomorrow in western pennsylvania. he'll give a speech on trade titled declaring american economic independence and that of course will happen near pittsburgh. as for donald trump's vice presidential search he says it's "going very well" but he has stopped short of naming any names. one person who keeps coming

cars crashed into each other along i-95 in delaware today. this the scene going south in wilmington near the amtrak yard. at least one person was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. three other people suffered minor injuries. it's still not clear what touched off the crash but traffic was backed up for several miles because of the investigation. >> the search is on for the person who shot a teenager who was walking down a delaware street last night. wilmington police arrived along the 2600 block of north market street around 11:30 and found a 15-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the arm. he told them that someone had shot him in the area of 27th and moore streets. from our delaware -- new jersey news room now, mount laurel police arrested at least one person after a brawl at a wedding reception. this happened at the hilton garden inn last night. police have not released details about what led up to the incident or if anyone will face criminal charges. medics were called to the scene to treat minor cuts and

bruises. >> authorities are searching for a vehicle stolen during a carjacking at the barrett run apartments in newark delaware early this morning. a 29-year-old man was removing some items from his blue ford fusion, it looks like this one in our picture. meals say an armed man then forced that victim into the car and ordered him to drive to various atm's. the owner was forced to get out on old baltimore pike. the suspect took off with his vehicle. anyone with information should contact new castle county police. philadelphia police looking for the three men in this surveillance video. they say they walked into a west oak lane grocery store eight days ago and demanded money from the clerk. this was inside the jaquez grocery on north 20th street. one of the men went behind the counter grabbed a box with some money in it and tried to leave. the clerk tried to stop him. that's when a fight broke out. in the end the suspects did get away with the money. >> all right. time now to see how traffic is rolling out there on this monday afternoon.

>> some incredible video posted online here of a passenger jet that burst into flames. the wing of the singapore airlines plane caught fire after making an emergency landing. the flight with 222 passengers and 19 crew members took off early today from the airport headed for milan. two hours in, the pilot saw an engine oil warning message and turned back. the fire was extinguished within minutes and all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated from the

plane. shaquille o'neill brought u.s. basketball diplomacy to the cuban capitol. the nba hall of famer led a local basketball clinic in havana yesterday. the kids there got to play right alongside shaq. they learned all kinds of skills. of course doing some layup drills and played scrim matches. this was put together by the state department to foster cultural exchanges with cuban citizens. >> how fun is that. >> he is very tall. >> very tall. >> jamie here with sports and a big honor for a former flyer. this is great. >> great news. year after year he was passed over and today on his sickth trial former flyers legend eric lindros is finally a hall of famer. lindros voted in as part of the class of 2016. he finished in the top 10, 10 times. despite 865 points and 760 career games he was a question for the hall all these years because his career and many seasons cut short due to injuries most notably concussion cans.

it is starting to cloud up and turning more humid as we go throughout the rest of the evening. we had a high today in philadelphia and at 86 degrees, at this hour coming in the at 85. it's 85 in trenton, 69 up in the poconos. 75 in beach haven. 74 at cape may. at the westward suburbs there in lancaster can coming in at 76 and 73 degrees in reading where you are picking up some rain cooled air. here is satellite6 along with action radar. there's this cold front across the region from new england down across the midatlantic region as well. it will continue to work its way eastward overnight tonight it slows down and then essentially stalls out across our region so that's why we have to allow for some showers and storms in the forecast even for the day on tuesday. so the call from accuweather over the text 12 hours an isolated thundershower is likely. otherwise it's warm turning more humid, 67 the overnight low in the suburbs. we drop down to 70 in philadelphia with there southerly wind at four to 8 miles per hour. here's future tracker6. you can see what's going on here. 4 o'clock in the morning during the overnight hours a couple of showers even a
