bring drenching downpours with them. it is tuesday afternoon and i'm sharrie williams. the big story is the tropical downpours coming our way. lets head to adam joseph keeping an eye on the system. >> we know that something is up because the minute you step out the door it feels like a steam bath out there and tropically humidity and much of the day is fairly quiet because of the cloud cover and sunshine breaking out in the western suburbs. stormtracker 6 live double scan showing it's quiet in our region, and we have the storms firing up west of lancaster county and a severe thunderstorm warni warning that does not include downtown lancaster. this is until 4:45 as the storms progress from the west to the east at a slow pace. we look at radar at harrisburg,

153 lightning strikes here and a bowing feature here as it approaches lebanon and lancaster as well as york. we'll track this as it comes closer into our area as we go deeper in the afternoon and evening hours. as we look at the dew points, this is why we expect heavy rain with the downpours, dew points in the 70s, that means it's tropical out there. 74 in wilmington and 71 in philadelphia and air temperatures in the 80s from philadelphia to the north and west and the sea breeze is cooler at the shore and only in the 70s. as we look at satellite and radar, sunshine is breaking out and this line continues to expand in intensity as it pushes to the south and east. and the culprit is intense lightning and downpours and a low risk this evening and overnight of hail or tornadoes. we'll chat more about stormtracker 6 live double scan and let you know about a big

nothing fake about him and he put football back on the map after down years. buddy ryan only one five more games that he lost, but he is on the mt. rushmore of coaches in this town. >> there this was a time when the giants and red skins ruled the nfc east and a bully showed up and said he would not be bullied. >> he was a great coach and a phenomenal coach you by believe he was a better man. >> mike quick played for ryan and described the mastermind who had the players interest at heart and garnered a deep loyalty. he came to philadelphia after winning a super bowl in chicago. the all pro wide receiver says that when ryan came to philadelphia for the infamnus playoff game he did not go

they blocked center city. they blocked the exit for the vine street expressway. they were protesting the supreme court decision that essentially stalled president obama's plan to shield millions of immigrants from deportation. authorities arrested several people and cleared the roads after 12:00 this afternoon. while you were sleeping new jersey lawmakers were hard at work passing a brand new tax plan. while it lures the sales tax it could mean higher gas prices across the state, it's not a law yet. nora muchanic is live with the details on this plan. >> the assembly has passed a big hike in the gas tax but the senate doesn't vote on it until thursday, but it's all but a given you'll be paying more at the pumps here in the matter of days. >> why can't they go 10 cents,

why one big jump? >> that was the reaction from one man at a gas station in burlington. he is not happy that the assembly approved a deal to jack up new jersey gas by 26 cents a gallon. to save the nearly bankrupted transit. >> they keep going up and it's hard when you are on a fixed income. >> if most of it is devoted to repairing our terrible roads and bridges but i understand a lot of it going towards mass transit and that should really be paying its own way. >> to soften the gas tax they wanted to lower the sales tax to 6% over two years. they would be able to have an

troubles for the trip home. a crash happened on the roosevelt boulevard extension, northbound by the ridge avenue on ramp, you can see the emergency crews on the scene taking out the two right lanes on the twin bridge away from the schuylkill expressway, you are hitting a jam because just that left lane is open to northbound traffic. if you come out of the city this afternoon, you might want to use kelly drive and the hunting park avenue, just off the schuylkill. had a crash much of the afternoon in lower merion that was closing 23 at state road, that is in the process of clearing and that should be reopened in a few minutes. trouble in delco with a disabled csx train, it's blocking out meeting house road and try chester and the delco situation. i never thought we'd talk about

admitting to rigging their vehicles to pass emissions tests. vw will also spend $10 billion as part of a buy back program for anybody that wants to get rid of their cars and pay the difference between the buy back and the balance of the owner's loans or leases. if you own one of these we'll have more for you coming up at 4:30 today. part of our area is now under a severe thunderstorm watch. lets get over to meteorologist, adam joseph. >> there are not a lot of storms out there but they are popping up west of lancaster, the severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 10:00 tonight everywhere you see the yellow and pretty much of the entire viewing area and the exception is the shore and extreme southern parts of new jersey, the threat is wind and small hail and especially some vivid lightning and also some torrential rainfall, as we

look at stormtracker 6 live double scan pretty quiet at the present time, you can start to see the storms west of lancaster, north of pottsville, one area that is dealing with a severe thunderstorm right now is elizabeth town as this storm heads to the east at 25 miles per hour, there you see the times and the towns with this storm of 83 lightning strikes in the last 15 minutes as it push as way from harrisburg, it produces winds in excess of 60 miles per hour heading towards manheim and lincoln. and again, this is not in the viewing area yet but about to bump into the viewing area and we'll watch that as it moves to the east slowly. right now 82 in philadelphia and 85 in allentown and 83 in reading and 70s in southern jersey and dover. we have the tropical air mass in place, factor in the humidity, it feels like 86 in philadelphia

and 87 in allentown and that is the fuel to get these storms going, and they turn severe at times this evening. we look at satellite and radar, the only watch boxes in our viewing area and extending down to washington and parts of baltimore, upper level energy spinning from toronto heavening to ignite the storms, we'll watch the storms especially during the early part of the overnight hours and it remains humid, 62 to 68 degrees for your overnight low, future tracker at 7:00, watch it approach the northwestern suburbs of philadelphia and not everyone is getting hit by the storms, if you do expect heavy rainfall at the minimum, 10:00 still hanging along i-95, and it falls apart as it heads to southern new jersey with lingering clouds in spots and 10:00 tomorrow big improvement here on wednesday as the sunshine starts to go back to work. for the forecast tomorrow, a humid start and we are also going to see a little bit of left over cloud cover with

philadelphia police are looking for the man that broke into the city's spring garden section. it happened one week ago today. the suspect broke the glass window at the new spring garden market at 4th and spring garden at 2:30 in the morning. he rummaged through the store and took cartons of cigarettes and left the same way he came in. police want anyone with information to give them a call. another top athlete dropped out of the rio olympics because of zika concerns. jason day, the number one ranked golfer in the world said he would not be going to brazil.

istanbul. and more than 30 people have been hurt. two suicide bombers firing machine guns blew themselves up. and we are told that the attack happened at the entrance to the airport before the security check. turkey has suffered several bombings and just yesterday the u.s. state department issued a warning telling u.s. citizens to avoid traveling to that country. ikea is including 29 million people in their recall of dressers and chests. it has caused the death of six children, include one from chester. >> reporter: brian, this ikea recall should motivate all families to take action to keep any piece of furniture from tipping over.

charges coming. herkins is a teacher at elementary school. two vehicles slided in middletown township. vest dirters say that one -- one driver was trying to make a turn and one was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. a man was hospitalized after a deck collapse. it happened on the 8700 block of windham road. they pulled the man to safety after a half hour. no word on his condition or what caused the deck to give way. time to check again on our forecast, we are keeping an eye on potential storms coming our way. sky 6 hd showing the scene in center city philadelphia, some

clouds out there and adam says we are under a severe thunderstorm watch for parts of the area. >> with the sunshine breaking out and destabilizing the atmosphe atmosphere. the exception is southern new jersey and the shore not within the watch box. the main culprit is torrential rain and maybe some small hail. stormtracker 6 live double scan will show the broken line of storms to the north and west. moving to the east-southeast very slowly at 20 to 25 miles per hour. so that is a big concern because as they slowly moved through and it could lead to quick rising waters in spots. it mains in effect until 4:45,

the 64-year-old is the all time winningest coach in ncaa basketball. she led the tennessee lady vols to eight championships and even after retirement remained involved with the lady vols and she wasn't just known as a great coach but as a champion of women's sports. >> she is the reason that we are gettive and that we have a fire under us and that we want to win. and we cry when we lose and we are pass nate about basketball. >> she is great at what she did and driven and wanted to be the best but it was never about pat. >> president obama awarded her the presidential medal of freedom, the highest civilian honor.

radar out there. >> as we look at stormtracker 6 live double scan we do have a severe thunderstorm watch for most of our area until 10:00. the watch means the potential of any of these storms to turn to the severe side, that doesn't mean they will. we are tracking a broken line west of lancaster north of pottsville at the present time. we have a severe thunderstorm warning until 5:45 for almost the next hour just to the west of lancaster, 60 miles per hour wind gusts expected with this storm. it's moving more in a southeasterly direction and that continues to push into southern lancaster county and extreme southern parts of chester county south of oxford. as we look at the storm it's moving at a speed of 20 to 25 miles per hour. extremely heavy rain being released around elizabeth town and 74 lightning strikes in the last 15 minutes, aiming towards lancaster and mythville and coreyville and on the brink of our viewing area and this is the

only storm at the present time we are tracking. dew points, 71 in philadelphia and 71 in millville and 74 in dover. this is the fuel for the storms and tropical like downpours released. that is why you say when you step out the door, it's really humid out here because of that moisture. cooler at the shore with the sea breeze and the sea breeze will help to choke the storms as they push into southern new jersey and why we don't have the severe thunderstorm watch for the shore communities or the extreme southern parts of delaware. satellite and radar shows energy pivoting in and helping to unite the storms and roll through here during the overnight hours, at 6:00, it's mainly through pennsylvania, still wading through parts of delaware and new jersey waiting for storms and scattered in variety and not everyone will get hit by these
