of philadelphia. this was a vigil for a 13-year-old boy who fell victim to gunplay last night. today, police charged two teenagers including the 15-year-old who allegedly pulled the trigger. it is thursday night. and the the big story on "action news" tonight is the latest developments in the death of a boy who, with his friends, stumbled upon a gun last night in a vacant house. "action news" reporter christie ileto is live at police headquarters tonight. christie? >> reporter: well, jim, it's still unclear if that gun is registered and who it belonged to but the pain of losing a child is now sinking in for this family. >> my nephew got shot in his mouth, went through his head to his brain. >> reporter: in the midst of his grief, he tells "action news" his family is trying to come to terms with the accidental shooting of his 13-year-old nephew chris. >> my family right now is grieving beyond what i ever could imagine.

>> reporter: a 15-year-old believed to have fired the gun is charged with involuntary manslaughter while a 17-year-old who apparently loaded it was discharged thursday night with recklessly endangering another person. the group of friends were reportedly playing with that gun after discovering it in a vacant home. >> it's heartbreaking. >> reporter: dozens gathered on the very block where shooting took place 24 hours earlier. philadelphia's ceasefire rallied this as a cautionary tale to lock up guns. >> this ain't playstation. when your life is gone, your life is gone forever. >> reporter: but the grim reality is still fresh on chris' childhood block. >> you need to teach your child you don't play with guns and when you see someone with a gun, you go and tell somebody. >> reporter: a lesson chris and his friends learned too late. >> still moving forward, like, it's going to -- like, that's my brother's son. it's an everyday pain. i don't know what's going on. kids play with guns every day. i don't know right now. i don't have no message.

all i -- all i know is right now i'm hurt. >> reporter: police have not yet said if there were any adults at the residence at the tight of that shooting. reporting live at police headquarters, christie ileto, channel 6. jim? >> thank 1 christie. demetrius williams surrendered tonight in the tragic shooting death of a 4-year-old north philadelphia girl. philadelphia homicide detectives say it was his gun that the little girl found in the closet and accidentally shot herself in the face. williams is the boyfriend of the girl's mother, shakeia holmes. she is charged with third-degree murder. williams is expected to face involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment charges. trenton firefighters rescued a woman from a house fire tonight. chopper 6 was over the unit block of fairway avenue an hour ago. fortunately the blaze was quickly knocked down. the unidentified woman was rushed to the hospital. we do not know the extent of her

injuries. not yet. a fiery multicar crash brought rush hour traffic to a standstill this evening on i-95 south. it happened just north of cottman avenue at 6:00. three vehicles collided later catching fire because it was difficult for firefighters to navigate through the highway traffic. two people were injured. in mercer county, police in robbinsville have charged an 18-year-old female in connection with a tragic hit-and-run accident that traumatized an entire community. school superintendent steven mayer was struck and killed along with his dog early in the morning of april 19th . "action news" reporter trish hartman is live at robbinsville high school with the full story. >> reporter: jim, the charges came down today. death by auto, leaving the scene of an accident, the that resulted in death and improper use of a cell phone while driving. people who live around here say the charges add another heartbreaking chapter to this

already tragic story. >> it's just really sad for both families. the superintendent's family as well as her family. >> reporter: that was the sentiment among many people who have followed the investigation and now the charges filed in the death of dr. steven mayer. police say the superintendent of robbinsville schools was jogging near his home with his dog, dutch, on april 19th. police say the driver, a 17-year-old female student struck and killed mayer and his dog and then left the scene around 6:15 a.m. on robbinsville-edinburgh road. about a mile from the high school. sources say she was rushing to get to school early for a class trip. authorities now say she was talking on her cell phone during or around the time of the crash. >> it's tragic all the way around, and this young girl will never be the same. >> reporter: mayer, a husband and father of three, was mourned by hundreds at a vigil just after the crash. all district schools were closed for two days. as the school year went on, the investigation into the crash continued. detectives reviewed witness

statements, physical evidence, and cell phone records. >> it's a wake-up call that it's not all about your phone. >> reporter: 16-year-old jamie dunlap just got her driver's permit and says the crash prompted safety discussions. >> my mom tells me like every time i get in the driver's seat, even though she's with me, she's like, just don't -- don't look at your phone. turn it off. honestly, it can wait. >> reporter: the driver's name has not been released because she was a juvenile at the time of the crash. she will appear in front of a superior court judge, but a hearing date has not yet been set. we're live in robbinsville, new jersey, trish hartman for "channel 6 action news." jim? >> thank you, trish. dui cases in philadelphia are under new scrutiny tonight after philadelphia police admitted that breathalyzers may not have been calibrated correctly. a defense attorney discovered the breath test machines were using an expired solution. police say the breathalyzers were fixed yesterday and returned to service but going forward, new protocols will be

taken. the d.a.'s office will review whether any evidence was compromised. a kidnapper who randomly abducted a young woman off a germantown street in philadelphia took a plea deal today and has been sentenced to 35 years in jail. 39-year-old delvin barnes admitted to grabbing the young woman near a bus stop in 2014 and dragging her into the trunk of his car. a massive manhunt then ensued and the pair were found three days later in jessop, maryland. the victim was sexually assaulted, but fbi agents and prosecutors credit her actions with saving her life. >> he did not harm her. she basically made him care about her. >> she is a remarkable young woman who was courageous from the moment she was abducted. >> and she was smart. the victim threw her phone down at the kidnapping site as a first clue. and later convinced barnes to

use an atm so that cameras would record him. dy by taking the plea, the victim will not have to testify in open court. we have an update on the sex assault in wilmington that we told but last night. police have arrested 31-year-old dequalm rodriguez and say he has confessed with the crime. he is charged with rape and robbery. philadelphia police and the fbi hope that these clear surveillance photos can help catch a bank bandit. he held up a center city wells fargo at 20th and market this afternoon. clear pictures indeed. in addition to the flyers cap he wore a distinctive backpack. there is reward for information leading to his capture. negotiations continue at the trump taj mahal but a strike has been averted at four other atlantic city casinos. this afternoon, local 54 union officials reached an agreement on a new contract with bally's, ceasar's, harrah's, and the tropicana. the union wanted to recoup concessions that it gave the

casinos in past negotiations during those very tough financial times. but the taj mahal is a thornier fight since health and pension benefits have been scrapped. 950 union employees work there. the new jersey senate is saying not so fast to the idea of increasing the gasoline tax. the senate was supposed to vote on a 23 cents per gallon increase today while cutting the sales tax. the assembly has already approved it. but senate leaders say there just isn't enough support for the deal, which was passed by the assembly again two days ago. the assembly plan could cost the state $2 billion a year in lost revenue, so they have to figure this out. it looks like getaway day for the holiday weekend could see pop-up storms throughout the day. meteorologist adam joseph is live at the big board tonight. adam, not an ideal way to kick off the july fourth weekend. >> it isn't, but thank 3, it won't be a washout tomorrow. but if you're traveling anywhere from the city north to the south to the shore, you may bump into

one of these very torrential downpours at any time and the humidity's already coming back up. you can see the dew point in southern areas back into the mideven upper 60s. anytime it's over 60, is humid. we are in the 50s today and that's where it still remains north of philadelphia, but there, it will be changing as well. stormtracker 6 live double scan will show there's a front to our south and you can see some downpours and storms not too far from southern delaware and off the coast already. we have a cold front to the west that is moving to the east with more downpours and storms. so we're getting squeeze played by both of these systems so over the next 12 hours, temperatures dip to near 67 early tomorrow morning. generally dry for the morning rush. there will be a couple of isolated downpours around. but by the middle part of the afternoon, temperatures already going into the low 80s. and that is when we'll see more in the way of those pop-ups starting to occur. and the biggest threat will be vivid lightning, torrential downpours, moderate risk for strong winds. not every storm will have that.

and a very low chance for large hail or tornadoes. we'll time these or try to time these pop-ups coming up in the full accuweather forecast with future tracker. thank you, adam. on the campaign front tonight, we now know that new jersey governor christie ileto is being vetted for the potentiality of becoming donald trump's running mate. but according to the quinnipiac poll from last month, 72% of new jersey voters would tell trump to pick someone else. according to "the washington post," christie is currently in second place behind former house speaker newt gingrich. meanwhile, trump lashed out at hillary and bill clinton today as he was talking about trade at a shutter factory in new hampshire. he reiterated his pledge to rip up this country's trade deals and bring back manufacturing jobs. trump was speaking at a factory that closed in 2014 with some of its 139 jobs moving to mexico then this happened. >> i respect mexico. i respect their leaders, what they've done to us is

incredible. their leaders are so much smarter, so much sharper. and it's incredible. in fact, that could be a mexican plane up there. they're getting ready to attack. >> went off-script. bill clinton and attorney general lynch may have caused a problem for hillary clinton's campaign. it turns out that clinton and lynch had a private conversation at the airport in phoenix on monday. one day before the republicans release their benghazi report. lynch told reporters the meeting was unplanned and that the conversation was a great deal about the former president's grandchildren. pennsylvania lawmakers have approved a new budget but they left something out, a plan to come up with a billion dollars. the budget totals $31.5 billion and increases school support by $200 million and directs new money to fight the state's opioid crisis. the passage beat the deadline midnight tonight, but governor tom wolf and the legislature now have the task of figuring out how to fund it. it's a billion dollars short in

after a child was found in one of the swimming pools. the 8-year-old child was helicoptered off the ship by new york police and rushed to a hospital. the ship just left bayonne this afternoon for bermuda and the caribbean. in february, anthem of the seas was damaged in mid-cruise by hurricane-force winds and 40-foot seas off north carolina. new surveillance video from inside the atatürk airport in istanbul shows travelers running for cover fleeing from one of the three terrorists armed with an ak-47. and other surveillance images of the attackers show the men smiling before unleashing their carnage. authorities determined the bombers were ric originally from russia and two former soviet republicans, uzbekistan and kyrgyzstan. they killed 44 people and wounded 100 more. more than 100 more. 100 are still in the hospital. turkish police conducted 16 raids across the city today and rounded up 13 people believed to
