"action news" caught up with families in sea isle, ocean city and avalon. everyone we spoke to said they were looking forward to spending quality time with loved ones. >> like when everybody is here, makes it more exciting, it's a little bit boring living here year round. i like when people are here. >> it's a family-friendly place, we've always coming here growing up, we love it. >> merchants saying they are ready for the huge crowds with the forecast looking so pleasant. they expect it to be busy this weekend. the action cam in rehoboth beach yesterday. we found plenty of people enjoying the sand and the surf and the boardwalk. >> a spectacular fireworks display a popular way to celebrate the 4th of july. this is how it looked, fireworks

lit up the night sky in penns landing last night there's the video. jeff chirico was there to see it all, and talked to people there celebrating the 4th right here in philadelphia. >>eporter: the 4th of july weekend launched with a bang, fireworks lit up the sky over penns landing while the ben franklin bridge showed off it's patriotic colors. the philadelphia orchestra started the night with a concert featuring soloist, bobby hill. >> it's a magical feeling, like

night over the art museum at 10:00 p.m. jeff chirico channel 6 "action news." >> boy that's impressive, right? the phillies celebrated the 4th of july holiday with that right there, a big bang "action news" was at citizens bank park in south philadelphia last night for a fireworks show to kick off the holiday weekend. the display followed the phillies win against the kansas royals. there would be another fireworks show after tonight's game, as well. if you're looking for a fireworks show this weekend we've got you covered head to 6abc.com. there you will find a list of local events brown down by state and county along with times and locations for july 4th festivities. him firefighters are searching for one person inside a burned out home in morton, delaware county. another person has been pulled from the house on the 600 block of peter street. you see firefighters working the

scene there. 911 calls started coming in at 5:00 a.m. we are told that crews found heavy flames when they got to the scene. officials have not released the details of the fire victim taken out of house. we'll keep you posted. workers at one atlantic city casino plan to be on the boardwalk this holiday weekend. they are not working or enjoying the holiday they are picketing the casino. workers from trump taj mahal will be on the picket line for a second day. they are demanding that the casino restore their health and pension plan that was terminated two years ago. they hope it will put pressure on the struggling casino that remains open for the holiday. there won't be any road construction projects in new jersey because governor chris christie ordered them to be shut down after a gas tax failed to

pass, that means the state transportation trust fund lost its authority to borrow money. it affects all roadwork not considered quote absolutely essential. detectives are looking for a person who stabbed a man to death in south philadelphia along the 1900 block of south 61st street after 10:00 p.m. police say the 24-year-old victim was stabbed in the neck and the chest. he was rushed to penn presbyterian for treatment, but he did not survive. investigators recovered a weapon at the scene, but there's no information about a suspect. a section of philadelphia was without power after a pick up truck lost control and hit a utility pole. chopper 6 hd was above the scene on the 4700 block of rhawn street in the city's holmesburg section last night. 2700 people were left in the dark after the pole fell on the

truck. the driver had minor injuries, the power has since been restored. a septa transit police officer has been disciplined for his treatment of a man during an arrest. officer had a physical contact with the plan while arresting him for disorderly conduct. he was found at fault the way he handled the man and violated the body camera rule. >> it's very important that the body cameras capture what the officer is seeing that's going to prompt enforcement action. the officer did not turn his arm on until after he put the man into handcuffs. the man in question we are told had several run-ins with transit police and he was cited for the incident on june 4th. the officer was disciplined, but not terminated. drugs and large amounts of

time 6:31 a.m., the jersey shore a popular destination for those looking for fun in the sun. the beaches and boardwalk will be bustling later this morning. people begin to enjoy their holiday weekend. trish hartman was in ocean city last night and she checked out all the fun. for many, the traffic and rain stood between them and their holiday vacation, it was a beautiful night to eat alfresco. >> this is beautiful down here, no drama, no stress. >> our family has been here for a lifetime since we were babies. >> reporter: austin johnson lives here full time, doesn't mind when the crowds come to town. >> i like when everybody is here, makes it more exciting,

foreigners were able to to be rescued. authorities say the main building was cleared and the outlying buildings were cleared. we'll follow the developments in bangladesh all morning long and bring that in fact to you as it comes into the newsroom. back here at home, route 70 is back open after police cleared the scene of a crash involving a pedestrian. the impact shattered the drivers side windshield. the accident happened near grove street around 11:00 p.m. the person hit was taken to cooper university hospital. the police have not filed charges against the driver. a date has been set for a special election to fill the seat for chaka fattah who resign in the wake of his federal racketeering conviction. governor tom wolf said the special election will be held the day of the general election. dwight evans who is heavily
