defect was discovered. details on what this means for travelers. >> fun in the sun, the 4th of july holiday weekend is being celebrated along the jersey shore by thousands of people. >> but for some the long holiday weekend is off to a bumbley start weather wise. day two of our 4th of july holiday weekend is starting out as a soaker for parts of the delaware. sky6 live hd is looking live in atlantic city where it is raining lightly. will it rain on your picnic later today? that's the question. meteorologist david murphy in for chris and has the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. >> reporter: yes it's going to be a little wet down the shore at times, storm tracker 6 live double scan shows that to you in a moment. sky6 live hd shows you in and around philadelphia we have sunshine breaking out, and that spotty shower activity down the shore is the only place we're looking at rain. in fact things are improving down the the shore.

let's start you with radar. earlier we had yellow popping through parts of the region down south and in cape may and southern delaware. this rain was all the way up to middletown and millville and close to hammonton. it is lightning up. it is lighter precipitation there are a lot of holes opening up, out to the west of us we'll transition to a spotty precipitation pattern. it's been raining down the shore for a couple of hours. we'll be looking at spotty shower activity. north of the area, we're not seeing anything. so the picnics are fine. 75 degrees in philadelphia. 70 in trenton. 69 in allentown. 65 in cape may and dover where we have some of the lighter showers trying to work their way out. dewpoints are in the 50s a lot of area, even the 60 in millville is not that bad. not that humid and staying on the low side humidity wise.

we're expecting high of 82 around 2:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., 81. gradually we sink into the 70s with a fair amount of clouds, i think the farther north you are, the more sun you'll see, the farther south the more clouds. generally speaking comfortable conditions. tomorrow we have issues with potential rain coming in perhaps in time to hinder the fireworks displays in parts of the region tomorrow night. i will have the that coming up gray and nydia. >> 9:02. a third of septa's regional trains are out of service after the agency found a significant structural defect on the silver liner rail cars. today they will that you can about how they will handle the problem and what it means for the riders on the regional rails. jeff chirico has the latest. >> reporter: regional rail service rolled along as usual for saturday. passengers at suburban station

said they couldn't tell a third of the fleet had been taken out of service. they fear returning to work on tuesday is a different story. >> a third of a fleet? it's going to be chaos and pandemonium. >> reporter: septa said it recalled all 120 silver liners, because of a significant structural defect discovered friday. there's a part under the car that needs to be manufactured before the vehicles return to the rails. passengers traveling in and out of the city for the 4th of july festivities won't be affected. the car shortage will continue into the weekend and possibly all summer. >> it's very easy and convenient. it's a quick ten minute train ride, but without 120 trains it will be harder. >> reporter: early on cars assembled at a plant in south

philadelphia were plagued by quality control problems. 6 years after the cars were on the rails there's another glitch which has the commuters planning ahead. matthew mitchell of the association of rail passengers tell me the problem has to do with the truck that's the part that holds the axles and wheels and motor in place. parentally a part has to be made which is why it could take all summer for the problem to be resolved. septa has a news conference scheduled at 2:00 p.m. to lay out it's contingency plan. >> "action news" will be at the 2:00 p.m. septa news conference and we'll stream it live at 6abc.com and post all the details from the briefing, plus we'll have an update tonight on "action news" at 6:00 p.m. the holiday weekend is in full swing now, as we've been telling you parts of the jersey shore are dealing with rain this

morning. the beaches in cape may are getting showers. the wet weather began moving into the area in the last couple of hours. meteorologist david murphy says it's not a total washout. meanwhile, it was a beautiful day yesterday people got to grill without permits on the beach in ventnor. beach tag holders can grill for free through the 4th of july. in margate, plenty of beach goers enjoyed the waves and the hot summer sun. they had to watch out for a strong undertow. >> what is is really sucked us that way by the rocks, so people were getting sucked over. >> the waves would be pulling you forward and the next thing you know they are pulling you back deeper. >> the lifeguards said they had to make more rescues than normal. a hometown celebration in mount holly new jersey, the township will host this

for a father and son. they collided with a jet ski on the patcong creek. new jersey state police and the coast guard are investigating. there's strong warning from fire authorities, the message of caution coming after an accidental fire killed owners of a popular hoagie shop in delaware county. theodore and barbara fine opened slack hoagie shop. we told you about the fire on cedar street in morton yesterday morning. the source of the fire appears to have been a meat smoker outside their home. the fines are being remembered as kind hearted people. >> they were a cornerstone to the community. there was not at time you couldn't reach out to them in a time of need. >> firefighters are warning families this holiday weekend not to grill or cook on a deck within 20 feet of the home or

other structure. vandals used gold spray paint to mark a fence in new hanover township montgomery county. police are searching for those responsible. vandals worked in the overnight hours on willow brook lane. if you have information call police. it is day 3 of the strike against trump taj mahal in atlantic city. there's no negotiations in sight to bring an end to the impasse. more than 1,000 union workers were on the picket line on this 4th of july weekend. taj mahal promised its guests they will be well cared for. employees are demanding a pay raise and healthcare benefits. the casino is owned by carl ichan. don't forget your pooch this holiday, we have some tips to keep your furry friends safe while celebrating the fourth. holiday fun was marred by a

damp start down south. but it's getting better, storm tracker 6 live double scan shows you there is rain to the south of us, but it is beginning to break up. if we go in tighter we can see how most of the stuff highlighted in yellow is off the coast. all you're seeing is light to moderate showers, a lot of holes over the delaware bay and back into delaware. we are starting to get rid of this and we'll taper off to spotty showers in the afternoon. stepping outside to sky6 live hd, right now, the region is not looking well, not too bad overall, as we have some sunshine in play. generally speaking, not too bad conditions over most of the area. i guess we'll go straight to satellite and the rest of the stuff. 72 degrees, dewpoint, 54 that's an indication that the air is not all that humid which is nice. wind out of the northeast at 6 miles per hour. cloud cover is thinning out a

little bit be and we're getting sunshine in play and i-95 philadelphia and points north. farther north in the poconos, it's full sun. farther to the south there's showers that bubbled up and they are pushing away and again we'll transition to drier conditions before too much longer with a spotty shower down south. in philadelphia, sun and clouds, 67 degrees by 8:00 a.m. 75 degrees by 10:00 a.m., this is about where we were at 8:00 a.m. this morning. 78 degrees by noon. the high today will be 82 degrees, low humidity, pretty comfortable out there, and outside of the southern areas it will be dry for your picnics. 82 degrees in allentown. 83 in reading, 80 in wilmington. 78 in millville. down the shore, mid 70s and hopefully mainly dry with a spotty shower in delmarva and cape may county. uv index might be moderate to

height up north. down south, uv index lower with clouds and sun and showers there. phillies game, sun mixes with clouds, 80 degrees at the first pitch, 81 degrees around the 6th inning. here we go with the 4th of july. all the models are consistent with the idea that any morning sunshine will give way to clouds. as we get into the early afternoon hours there's a chance of sprinkles and light showers around. 6:00 p.m. maybe wrapping up your picnics okay with a light sprinkle around. you can see the model is producing rain coming in and maybe heavy cells. by the time we get up to 8:30 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. there's a chance of showers or thunderstorm pushing into some

areas trying to get the fireworks in. later in the overnight hours there's downpours and we could have isolated flooding problems from heavy downpours. in terms of tomorrow night, we're going for increasing clouds during the day, afternoon high of 81. there's a chance of a late day or nighttime shower, maybe a thunderstorm, what i am going to tell you, i wouldn't cancel my plans to the head to the fireworks, but keep an eye on the forecast as we get into the evening "action news" on the air tomorrow afternoon with the latest on future tracker and live radar. 82 degrees, a nice one, outside of the shore where there could spotty showers. for the 4th, increasing clouds and afternoon and evening rain is possible. high of 81. hopefully your fireworks will get on track just fine. warm and humid on tuesday with a morning shower, after that it looks like a possible heat wave on the way with highs in the low 90s next week. high humidity and spotty thunderstorms. >> the 4th is not a washout.

suffering from menopause and depression, researcher say there's an unconventional way to ease the symptoms of menopause and depression in middle aged women. researchers assigned half of the study group to stretch before bedtime for three weeks. overall those who stretched saw improvement in their symptoms. a new study in the u.s. find gay, bisexual lesbian were more likely to experience impaired physical and mental health, heavy alcohol consumption and smoke heavily. researcher believe it's do to stress and discrimination. out of pocket hospital costs have skyrocketed 37%. the average patient with private

man who planned agents of terror at the government building in arizona. the 18-year-old kahn was arrested plotting to carry out attacks on government buildings. he faces charges to commit terrorism. a judge has ordered him held without bond. 19-year-old emory university sophomore was among 20 people taken hostage and killed inside a bangladesh cafe. she was born in bangladesh and in dhaka visiting family and friends. her teacher taught her in aurora and they became close friends. >> it's hard to believe that she it was there and she was suffering for ten or 11 hours. i don't want to think about it. i would like to remember her

ripped through a section of central california south of san francisco. crews continue to make progress on flames that let threaten a highway in fresno county. a brushfire spread to several structures. the blaze has leveled five homes and injured three people. we have an update to the gas explosion in michigan we first told you about yesterday

as showers -- and showers, as i mentioned. 82 is the high in philadelphia. sun and clouds. at times it will be cloudier and at times you'll see more sun. 82 is the high with low humidity. that 82 five degrees below average. if you're heading to the paul -- ballpark, phillies trying to win games against the royals. low humidity, nice day to be at the ballpark. overnight low tonight, 66 degrees. we get into the 4th of july, we are looking at cloud cover building. maybe morning sunshine, but the clouds are getting thicker. as we get into the afternoon there's a chance of a spotty shower developing. this is the 3:00 p.m. view. this shower right here on the model could get placed somewhere else.

just about everybody has to look at that. at 6:00 p.m., light scattered light stuff. we get into the evening hours there's a chance by by the time the fireworks shows are about to crank up, we may see a shower or thunderstorm. some of them may get canceled, my advice would be check out the forecast before you head out. there are showers and thunderstorms overnight and maybe heavy downpours, too, right into tuesday morning. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, 82, nice today, sun and clouds, a couple of spotty showers down south. tomorrow, increasing clouds, a couple of spotty showers during the day, the chance of significant rain arriving late in the day or a little later in the evening, high of 81 degrees, warm and humid on tuesday, shower in the morning, drying in the afternoon, but it will feel soupy with the high of 85. looks like we'll be in for a heat wave. we have highs in the low 90s, wednesday, thursday, friday and saturday, maybe sunday, as well.

the holiday weekend started out as a soaker for the delaware valley. sky6 live hd looking live at the boardwalk and beach in atlantic city. will it rain on your picnic later today? meteorologist david murphy at the big board with a look at accuweather. >> reporter: we're starting out with the story at the shore, things are getting better. all the showers are breaking apart. light sprinkles through ocean city and sea isle city. there might be more moving out of delaware, but generally speaking drying out, but the rest of the day looks cloudy down the shore in the southern areas, but only a spotty shower or two coming through after that. in fact if you look at the wide view on satellite once we get this batch of stuff through, there isn't much else out there. we'll allow for something else, but you'll get into a drying period quickly. 67 degrees in philadelphia. it's starting to get warm. 75 in trenton. 72 in wilmington.

structural defect discovered friday. the problem is under the cars which needs to be manufactured before the vehicles return to the rails. this is not the first issue for the silver line 5 seen back in 2010. at the beginning when they were assembled at a south philadelphia plant there were quality control and design problems. it's been 6 years since the first car hit the rails. this weekend riders were surprised to learn that a chunk of the fleet was out of operation. with the return of the work workweek and return of commuters on tuesday it could be a different story. >> a third of the fleet there's going to be chaos and pandemonium. >> it will be harder to find a seat and stuff. >> reporter: as we speak, septa officials are coming up with contingency plans, they are expected to have a media briefing at 2:00 p.m. where we will learn more about the plans. reporting live in university city, annie mccormick channel 6 "action news."
