john rawlins is here with the details. >> reporter: septa thinks they have seen progress but incremental at best. clearly the number of passengers exceeded the capacity of the rail system to carry them. septa asked amtrak for help there and amtrak 89 the palmetto made an unscheduled stop and picked up 260 septa riders and brought them here to center city. some riders were opting for predawn trains to beat the crowd -- the entire station was filled with frustrated passengers hoping to board. >> the train is just passing us right fow, it's normally a local stop and it's at capacity it was leaving fort washington we knew we would bypass here.
