tonight and sara bloomquist spoke to fans who braved the afternoon and the heat at the phillies game in philadelphia. but lets begin with melissa magee and the check of the hot and humid forecast. >> reporter: yes, it's definitely heat but it's the oppressive humidity that make its feel unbearable at times today outdoors. 93 if philadelphia and 92 in reading and 89 in the poconos and a little cooler in beach haven coming in at 84 degrees, you factor in the humidity with the south southwesterly wind 95 in the city and 96 in dover and the heat index in allentown of 92 and still pretty hot in atlantic city, 9 miles inland coming in at 92 degrees, the excessive heat warning stays up until 6:00 p.m. on friday and for the i-95 metro area and 25 miles northern and west and in south jersey, it will stay hazy, hot and humid and when you look

at the heat indexes across the region there is a good chunk of our area that will find numbers up to $100s from trenton down the i-95 corridor and lancaster and heat indexes from 95 to 100 degrees. he want to you know the signs, heat exhaustion, pale skin and nausea and you become dizzy and you will want to move to the air conditioning. heat stroke is more serious this, is when you body no longer has the ability to cool itself and you will not sweat and you'll have a high body temperature, good idea to call 911, are you dealing with an emergency situation. coming up we'll take a closer look at the forecast and the excessive heat warning is up until friday but there is relief on the way. >> melissa thank you. >> montgomery county officials have issue aid code red because of the heat to warn residents to

president obama announced today his decision to slow down the withdrawal of u.s. forces in afghanistan. he says he will leave 8,400 troops in the country at his term. president obama says the security situation in afghanistan is it precarious, and that the taliban is still a threat. roughly 15 years after the u.s. invaded in the aftermath of 9/11. more reports of hover board accidents have prompted recalls.

place to beat the heat, you get the moisture and afternoon sea breeze with the southerly wind and it feel a touch cooler compared to inland locations at this hour. the dew point numbers are quite high, any time you have dew point temperatures above 60 degrees, any time you reach 70 or higher it's oppressive. wilmington 71 and 65 in philadelphia and the number to the west in lancaster coming in at 67. the heat index, how hot it feels when you combine the heat and humidity. feeling like 95 in philadelphia and same in wilmington and millville 64, a little cooler in cape may 85 and out to the north and west in allentown coming in at 92 degrees. here is satellite 6 along with action radar it's dry and quiet across our region and you notice a ripple of energy along the eastern great lakes, and a wave of moisture that is working its way eastward as we go throughout the day on thursday. with that said there are a couple of showers and storms as

we go throughout the mid-day hour and beyond. the call from accuweather tonight it's warm and stuffy, a few clouds are around and we'll drop down to 76 in philadelphia and 72 in reading and the overnight low in cape may dropping down to 78 degrees, by 11:00 a.m., we have a couple of showers firing up especially with the building warmth and humidity overhead. when we get to 2:00 in the afternoon, storms are scattered in nature and with the moisture overhead, i would not be surprised if we had a quick burst and heavy burst ahead. same holds through at 6:00 in the evening and things start to depart through the rest of thursday night. what 20 expect tomorrow it feels like 100 tomorrow when we factor in the heat and humidity. dangerous lightning is a concern and heavy downpours especially with a lots of moisture overhead. here is your five-day at 5:00. you can see that the heat continues tomorrow with the excessive heat warning posted. 95 for the high and sizzling on

of two children in wilmington. we received the update this afternoon. here is what we know at this hour, two children were trapped as fire devoured their home on the 400 brock of north street. their mother and another child was seriously injured after a month long investigation the fire marshal's office determined that a space heater sparked the fire and that it heated up combustiblitis ems nearby and spread to the second floor. a homeowners security camera caught a package thief red handed. the suspect walked off with a box that was left on the front porch of a home in feltonville. if you recognize the suspect you are asked to call police. our region is under an excessive heat warning and it

meteorologist, melissa magee, is back now with a look at the hot and humid forecast and the heat wave that is imminent. >> this will more than likely be heat wave number two. we need three straight days of temperatures in the 90s and it will stay this hot into the rest of the work week. lets see what is going on with stormtracker 6 live double scan radar, it's dry and quiet and no issues with precipitation, you can see it's nice and quiet across much of the delaware and lehigh valleys, that is not the issue throughout the day on thursday, we have showers and storms we'll be tracking as we go throughout the mid-day hours and beyond. the high today so far in philadelphia coming in at 94 degrees, making this the hottest day so far this year. and likely the start of heat wave number two. and the ninth day we have seen temperatures in the 90s here in philadelphia. you look at the heat index in
