two snipers positioned above what started as peaceful protest against police brutality took aim. specifically targeting officers. >> he said he was upset about the recent police shootings and the suspect said he wanted to kill white people especially white officers. there was no cover from the spray of bullets from above risking their lives to save others. >> this chilling video shows an ac of bravery taking on a shooter before he is killed. brent thompson, got married just two weeks ago. >> we are heart broken. there are no words to describe the atrocity that occurred to our city. all i know is this must stop. >> after a standoff police killing one of the gunman, 125-year-old micah johnson using

an explosive device and at least three other suspects taken into custody. another suspect telling police he left bombs all over the area, they say they have found nothing so far but much of down town is blocked off as they search. >> a woman who was attending that rally with her four sons last night is recovered after being hit by the gun fire. her sister says it was peaceful rally and the family was enjoying it and then came the barrage of bullets, tailer was shot in the leg while running away and her sister dove on top of her 15-year-old son while her other boys ran for cover. >> she laid there and it was five minutes before the cops could get to her and pull her to cover. not realizing she was really shot at the time. >> thankfully taylor's sons were not hurt and the family is praying for the officers who

were injured and killed. after the chaos a show of support and solidarity, officers stood outside of the hospital and saluted their fallen comrades and hospital workers came and stood arm and arm with the police. and people are on high alert all over the country following the shooting in dallas. and annie mccormick spoke with police commissioner, richard ross. >> reporter: the commissioner said they are still learning the details like everybody else but they are adding extra safety measures because they want to make sure not only their officers -- >> you watch in horror, seeing the police officers being pinned down first of all. not knowing what they are dealing with, which is absolutely scary. >> philadelphia police commissioner, richard ross, expressing his thoughts.

philadelphia police are riding two officers to a cruiser, safety precautions as a direct reaction to the dallas police officers targeted and killed during a thursday night protest. >> we'll take appropriate measures to ensure their safety. obviously putting out additional clips to remind them to be vigilant. >> after the shooting death of philando castille of minnesota and alton sterling of louisiana. just last night local act viflts in center city in town for the church convenience held a protest for both of the slain men. it wrapped up peacefully before the shots rang out at the dallas protest. with more protests and rallies expected as early as tonight. ross says moving forward they are concerned about protests in

in a heat wave, this is the third day of 90 degree temperatures. the heat is excessive outside as we look live at sky 6 hd in cape may and a lot of folks are on the beach. we could see precipitation as showers and thunderstorms move in to cool things off. meteorologist, melissa magee, is in for david murphy outside on the terrace with the latest. >> reporter: happy friday to you rick. i was only outside for a couple of minutes and it's already uncomfortable because of the heat and humidity. it's 90 in philadelphia, making this an official heat wave for the city. 90 in wilmington and 86 in allentown and dew point levels are up there, we are in the 70s. so it certainly feels oppressive outside and not much relief coming until we get into the second half of our weekend, the excessive heat warning stays up until 6:00 this evening and for

the i-95 metro areas, because today when you factor in the heat and humidity, heat index numbers are feeling close to 100 degrees, so the hazy, hot and humid weathers continues for our friday. here is stormtracker 6 live double scan radar 3-d, you can see showers off to the west. they are already approaching central sections of pennsylvania ahead of the main cold front that moves through on saturday. we are certainly in line to find showers and storms firing up across the region. and because of that the storm prediction center placed a portion of our region for chester and portions of montgomery and bucks points from the north and west from the poconos to lancaster, the biggest threat of severe weather will be high winds and damaging hail. but downpours because of all the moisture in the air. coming up we'll look at the forecast and time out the showers and storms on the way with future tracker 6 and let you know when the relief is

as well. meanwhile, the presidential candidates are calling for calm in the wake of the killings in dallas and cutting back on their schedules out of respect for the police officers killed in dallas. democrat, hillary clinton and vice president joe biden postponed a morning rally in scranton, but delicious will talk about the police involved death of sterling and castille at the episcopal convention in center city this afternoon. earlier today clinton tweeted, i mourn for the officers shot while doing their sacred duty to protect peaceful protesters and their families and all who serve with them. >> and presumptive nominee donald trump reached out through twitter, he wrote prayers and condolences for all the families so thoroughly demonstrated by the horrors we are watching take place in our country. he was due to meet with hispanic

voters in miami and canceled out of respect for the victims in dallas. a police officer shot seven times on the job spoke exclusively to "action news" about his death. they say that he was ambushed and shot chris dorman two weeks ago as the 25-year-old was responding to a drug call. dorman managed to get on his radio and call for help. >> one through my nose and out my cheek and i didn't know it at the time but one hit my chest here where my badge is on my shirt. >> there are more surgeries ahead but is expected to make a full recovery. he said he loves being a cop despite the dangers the job presents.

the latest jobs report shows a rebound for the u.s. economy, the labor department says that employers added 287,000 jobs last month, a rebound from may's dismal showing. more americans began looking for work experts say the report suggests that the u.s. economy was improving before the unite the kingdom voted to leave the european union. well, the mega millions jackpot climbed to a whopping $540 million. tickets are selling at twice the rate of last week. sales are expected to exceed $181 million between tuesday's drawing and tonight.

and 97 in wilmington and a heat index of 93 in trenton. that is why we are under the excessive heat warning until 6:00. feeling like 91 in allentown and cape may feeling like 90 degrees, here is satellite 6 along with action radar you can see it's quiet right now but off to the west we are tracking showers and storms and they will make their way eastward as we make our way through the rest of the afternoon and evening hours, we'll time out the precipitation for you, 2:30 in the afternoon we have showers and storms and a lot of that precip off the west. 5:00 in the evening we are calling for the showers, some of which is heavy and that is why the storm prediction center put our northwest suburbs in the line of showers. northern montgomery and northern burkes counties. most of that moves offshore as we get into 8:00, 9:00 tonight and then another batch of moisture that moves through into
