involved shootings and now it's fueling the fire for already heated conversations about race and firearmsly in america. it is friday night. monica malpass is off, sharrie williams is joining us and big story on "action news" is that ambush on police in texas which left five officers dead. >> this evening we are learning more about one of the suspects who has been identified as as 25-year-old micah johnson. johnson was killed in a shootout last night with police and also the use of a robotic bomb. we're told he was an army veteran. police say johnson was upset about the police shootings of two black men earlier this week, one in louisiana, the other in minnesota and wanted to target white police officers. initially police said three other suspects were in custody but now they're not saying how many shooters were actually involved. today officials did say the attack appeared to be deliberate. >> through our investigation of some of the suspects, it's

revealed to us that this was a well planned, well thought out, evil tragedy. >> last night's shooting continues a week of nationwide heartbreak and grief. tensions have been rising since a man was shot and killed by two police officers in louisiana on tuesday morning. wednesday night a minnesota man was shot and can killed by police during a traffic stop only increasing calls for peace. and after last night's incident, attorney general loretta lynch says the violence must end now. >> americans across our country are feeling a sense of helplessness, of uncertainty and of fear. these feelings are understandable and they are justified. but the answer must not be violence. the answer is never violence. >> tonight the events in dallas have sparked protests and demonstrations from around the country and that includes

right here in philadelphia. you're looking live now at people who have gathered. we're hearing that a march is set to get under way any moment now from north philadelphia. protestors are planning to make their way down broad street to city hall which of course we'll continue to keep a close eye on. >> also last night's shooting is also getting a heavy reaction from the presidential candidates. trish hartman live in center city tonight where presumptive democratic party nominee hillary clinton is minutes away from addressing a crowd there. trish. >> reporter: well, rick, we are still waiting for hillary clinton to take the stage as the keynote speaker here at the african methodist episcopal national convention. more than 10,000 people are expected here at the pennsylvania convention center to hear clinton speak. we're still waiting for a number of people to take their seats. you can see the stage and a number of seats still empty here so it will be some time before she takes the stage. she canceled her appearance earlier today in scranton with

vice president joe biden in light of last night's deadly shootings in dallas. while this was a previously scheduled event for clinton she is expected to address this week's violence in louisiana minnesota and dallas and to call for reform for what she calls a broken criminal justice system. we spoke with some convention attendees about what 33 hope to hear from the presumptive democratic presidential candidate. >> i hope she announces that if she wins, she is going help us gather and to heal. our country is hurting right now. >> somebody has to help us come together and live together because that's what this nation is about. we've got to learn how to live in peace and so my hope is with her experience, she has a plan. >> reporter: again clinton is expected to speak any time now. this morning clinton tweeted

"i mourn for the officers shot while doing their sacred duty to protect people, protestors from their families and also serve them in response to the can killing of five dallas police officers during a protest yesterday. ame officials said as a religious nonpartisan organization they did reach out to both presumptive presidential nominees to speak here today. clinton was the only one who accepted that invitation. we're expecting hillary clinton to speak here at any time. we're live at the pennsylvania convention center trish hartman channel6 "action news." rick, sharrie. >> all right, trish, thank you. meantime presumptive republican presidential nominee donald trump expressed his condolences through twitter this morning. trump was scheduled to meet with hispanic voters in miami today but he canceled that appearance out of respect for the victims. >> well, people in our area are grieving as well tonight. "action news" spoke to folks in and around center city who said last night's events are weighing heavily on their minds and in their hearts.

>> only takes one thing to set people off. they're already riled up. so, i'm really praying. that's so sad for innocent people to lose their lives but it's also sad for those people that lost their lives that didn't need to. >> we should be able to live together, not so much shooting and malice that we have against one another. >> and the shooting has left many adults feeling fearful or hopeless. it can be worse for children who have seen this week's events online or on social media. >> experts say if and how parents can help their kids depends really on their age. health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman continues our coverage from the big board tonight. hi, ali. >> with social media how it is today, even younger kids can catch glimpses of the violence. parents can help kids by shielding them and reassuring them. recent events last night's ambush on dallas police and the shooting of two black men by police officers is horrifying for most adults.

for children, the news can be even more scary and confusing. >> i think what it does is it makes kids feel like the world we live in is no longer safe. >> reporter: sharrie is a licensed clinical social worker. she specializes in helping people cope with trauma. she says for young kids five and under don't let them see graphic images. >> turn it off. don't put it on. if your five-year-old, my five-year-old walks into the room, i shut the tv off. >> reporter: that's more difficult to do with older kids. on devices. for school aged kids she says explain what happens but leave out details. >> maybe just say there's some really bad things that happen sometimes in this world but then again, to bring them back to the idea that that doesn't mean it's going to happen to them or anyone that they know and reash sure them that we do everything to we can to keep them safe. >> reporter: remind them these are isolated events and

tonight. >> let's go live to matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center. >> certainly no shortage of traffic troubles as we try to start the weekend sharrie and rick. on 952 separate disabled vehicles in the northbound lanes, one of them is this camper here taking out the center lane in the work zone by girard so coming northbound away from penn's landing it is extra jammed up because of this disabled vehicle and one right up ahead also at the girard avenue interchange. had an earlier crash on the eastbound pennsylvania turnpike still jammed there. now there's one on the westbound side as well taking out the left lane between norristown and valley forge. and we still have that downed pole from the earlier crash right by villanova university by the stadium blocking off lancaster avenue. head for montgomery avenue, 320 or conestoga road instead. you can't use the inbound paoli thorndale line instead of driving route 30. that's still blocked because of the amtrak fatality near bryn mawr septa is saying so you could use the norristown high speedline but the inbound paoli thorndale not running.

troubles may be in for relief thanks to help from other transportation agencies across the northeast. today septa announced that it will be leasing train cars to fill the current holes in the transit schedule. >> but the problems are far from over. the 120 cars pulled from service for a possible safety defect, cracks were found on 115 of them. and officials say repairing those cars could be tough. >> given the magnitude of the problems and the types of things that are -- that are being evaluated, it suggests that a repair is not going to be possible but we can't rule it out yet. >> septa service reduction caused packed trains this week forcing them to pass up entire stations. officials plan to have the loaner cars up and running by monday morning. a new interim schedule is expected to be posted on septa's web site sometime on sunday. >> well, it is official. former eagle lesean mccoy will not face state charges for a bar brawl that happened

in pennsylvania february. pennsylvania solicitor general bruce castor agreed with the philadelphia d.a. that no charges are warranted. the fight at the olde city nightclub recess lounge involved mccoy, mccoy's friends and two off duty philadelphia police officers. it allegedly started as a dispute over a bottle of champagne. >> well a bucks county man will not be able to sell the feasterville home where 12 girls were found last month. a judge issued a temporary restraining order preventing lee kaplan from selling or transferring his property today. police found 51-year-old kaplan living in the home with 12 girls including a teenager who has -- was allegedly gifted to him. officials say he fathered two children with her beginning when she was just 14 years old. kaplan and the girl's parents are still being held on a number of charges including rape and conspiracy. >> ♪ >> in health check today, a montgomery county senator is working on a plan to regulate medical marijuana in

pennsylvania. dale len leach gathered marijuana growers dispensers and attorneys at saint joseph's university today. their suggestions are being taken into account and will be passed along to governor tom wolf's administration. earlier this year the governor signed a bill allowing medical marijuana to treat 17 conditions. it could take up to two years to get such a program running. >> the latest jobs report shows the u.s. economy is bouncing back from a weak winter and spring. covering to the labor department employers added 287,000 jobs last month. compare that to 144,000 jobs created in april and just 11,000 made in may. the unemployment rate ticked up to 4.9 percent. experts say that's a sign more americans are looking for work because they're more confident they can find a job. job. (applause). >> and today's solid jobs report helped markets rally to end the work week. the s & p 500 now sits within just one point of its record high close.

yards would get a permanent license it's on south justice street. residents who live next tots drinking establishment have filed several complaints mostly about noise. in wilmington, a popular recreation spot is undergoing a transformation of sorts. maynard stadium will be closed to the public starting on monday as work begins to install temporary bleachers at the facility. the current bleachers were deemed potentially unsafe by the city's parks and recreation department. should take about five weeks for the old bleachers to be moved out and temporary ones moved in. permanent new seating will be built over the next few years here at the stadium. >> a project that has set off an economic boone in camden reached a construction milestone today. they signed the final steel support beam before it was put into place atop the hole tech international technology campus. their work focuses on the future of nuclear power engineering and storage. 1400 construction workers were hired to build the campus and

>> time for accuweather at the "action news" big board. >> meteorologist cecily tynan has the weekend forecast that has some cool weather in it cecily, hm. >> yeah, second half of the weekend especially and we have some relief on the way. storm tracker6 live double scan showing that we've got some relief this afternoon in the form of storms. they're widely scattered. not everyone is getting them but those who do are getting hit very hard. case in point, we've got a flash flood warning in effect near new hope right now until 9:15 up to 2-inches of rain has already fallen and could get another 2-inches from this

system. part of the reason why, the high dewpoints, there's so much moisture in the air. also, the cell is moving slowly sinking to the southeast at only about 10 miles per hour so it's right south of new hope right now. it's heading towards pennington, yardly, woodside, ewing, morrisville trenton and mercerville in the path of this storm. we have 92 lightning strikes the past 15 minutes. really the big issue with this storm is the heavy rain. we also have this one cell, this had some hail associated with it with a severe thunderstorm warning. the warning has now expired but they've got some very heavy rain right now right over the atlantic city expressway, the garden state parkway, route 30. it's moving out of egg harbor, eight lightning strikes with this and also some heavy downpours so definitely slow going and all this activity is ahead of a cold front. that will bring us a breath of fresh air for the second half of the weekend. though we're official in heat wave number two. wednesday 95, yesterday 94, today so far the high

93 degrees but you factor in the humidity, the heat index the way it feels, the upper 90's to 100. feels like 98 in philadelphia right now, feels like 100 in dover, feels like 88 in cape may point and atlantic city airport you've got a rain cooled 75 degrees heat index. satellite6 along with action radar showing all this activity is prefrontal. the actual cold front is moving across the great lakes and that will be moving through later in the afternoon tomorrow. i think we'll see activity cropping up as early as lunchtime tomorrow so future tracker showing at around 7 o'clock we still have scattered showers and storms around tonight. most of the activity dies off around 10 o'clock. tomorrow around lunchtime is when we will see some storms fire up. again not everyone will see them. looks like they could become a little bit more widespread across south jersey at 6 o'clock. a lot of people asking me about the billy joel concert tomorrow night. hopefully the storms are on the way out by then. tonight, though, some scattered thunderstorms.

anyone who gets them will get heavy rain, lightning, could also get wind gusts 40 to 60 miles per hour and with that heavy rain could be some localized flooding and some ponding on roads so you definitely do want to take it easy. the get away forecast showing tomorrow the weekend kickoff down the shore some showers and thunderstorms especially in the afternoon, 79 degrees. here in philadelphia, it's going to be warm and humid with a high of 89, some thunderstorms, the poconos some heavy thunderstorms especially early in the day, a high of 76 degrees but then that cold front sweeps out the heat and humidity for sunday so the five day at 5:00 slowing tomorrow still very steamy, 89 degrees but look at sunday, 86, low humidity, breezy, still pretty comfortable on monday, 86. tuesday 89 and wednesday temperature back into the 90's, 92 degrees, looks like that's the start of heat wave number three. melissa will talk more about that in the accuweather 7-day forecast, guys. >> thank you cecily. quick break. more news right after this. stay with us. >> ♪

sharrie williams joining us tonight. here's what's happening on "action news" this evening. chaos in dallas. a sniper opened fire on police during a peaceful rally. hundreds run for their lives as officers try to find the shooter. >> we must learn to live together as brothers and sisters. if not we will perish as fools. >> lawmakers demand action on gun control following another attack on innocent americans. and only "action news" is there as an accused sexual predator walks into a montgomery county court. >> ♪ >> we continue to follow the late of the developments from dallas as that city and the nation comes to grips with the deadliest attack on law enforcement since the september 11th terrorist attacks. >> dallas' police chief called the ambush a well thought out evil tragedy and vows that's department won't rest until they bring everyone involved to justice. >> i was screaming run, run, active shooter, active shooter, run, run. and i was trying to get folks out as fast as i could.

>> that was reverend jeff hood one of the protest organizers who is among the hundreds of people who scattered in all directions to avoid the rapid succession of bullets seemingly coming from all directions. >> i could hear so much -- so much gun shots going off all around me i didn't know really what to do besides, you know, survive but i tried to get what i could on camera because, you know, i didn't know if it was my last day on earth. i didn't know if this was going to be it. >> as the crowds fled dallas police officers drew their weapons and crouched behind cars and searched high and low for the source of the gunfire. >> 12 dallas police officers were shot by the sniper, five of the men did not make it. two civilians attending the protests were also hit by gunfire. the names of the five officers who died have not yet been released. the dallas police department is receiving an outpouring of support from residents and other police departments from around the nation. two patrol cars parked outside the dallas police headquarters

are now covered with flowers for the officers who are still recovering. >> and abc news has learned that the shooter was 25-year-old micah johnson. johnson verbally expressed there he wanted to kill white people and especially white officers. today officers raided his home in a dallas suburb and carried out several bags of potential evidence from the home. detectives just announced they found bomb making materials and a journal of combat tactics inside johnson's home. president barack obama has ordered flags lowered to half-staff to honor the 12 police officers and two civilians who were shot in dallas. the president spoke from warsaw poland morning this morning where he's holding talks with nato and european union leaders. >> we are horrified over these events and we stand united with the people and the police department in dallas, texas.

>> the president called the dallas police chief and attorney general loretta lynch for updates on the investigation this afternoon. >> lawmakers in washington pause to honor the victims of the dallas tragedy today. members of the house of representatives stood and shared their thoughts prayers and frustrations. speaker paul ryan and minority leader nancy pelosi led the remarks. after the session members of the congressional black caucus made a passionate plea for gun control. >> i got arrested 40 times during the 60's. left bloody, unconscious by police officers. but i never hated. any time i see a police officer on capitol hill or back in atlanta or some times in texas or louisiana or wherever, wherever, i say thank you for your service.

i really believe that we must come to that point in our country where we respect the dignity and the worth of every human being. >> congressman lewis went on to say it's time that all leaders from the religious community to local government to congress need to deal with the problem. >> as we have said the events in dallas baton rouge and minnesota have sparked protests and demonstration from around the country and that includes right here in philadelphia. let's take a live look now at the march that just got under way a short time ago in north philadelphia. these are live pictures from the ground here as protestors are making their way down broad street to city hall. this march has been organized by the black lives matters group. many are holding signs and this has been a very peaceful protest. police officers are following the protestors as they do as part of their protocol in making sure that the protestors are safe. >> well, the events over the past few days are striking a

cord with people in our region tonight. many shared their thoughts with "action news" reporter katherine scott today in center city. >> very tragic. >> images of last night's chaos and tragedy coming out of dallas today and in center city they weighed heavily on people's minds. >> everybody's up in the air and this is the time for people to pray. >> i'm scared any to live in this world and i have a child. even if the cops were wrong with what 33 did, i didn't see the whole story that's no excuse to kill innocent police officers and take their family away. you know, two wrongs don't make a right. >> reporter: last night the attack on officers came as a peaceful protest was ending over the police involved shootings in minnesota and louisiana. here at home many expressed hurt and anger over the deaths of philando castile and alton sterling but say more violence is not the answer. >> i think it is a lot of eastern. i think that people do it to retaliate back to each other instead of them coming to each other talking to them trying to figure something out. >> you see people getting killed every day and now that

you see somebody killing cops. >> myself i'm prior service. officers police academy and boot camp and all this training but i think a r reup of when they're going to use their service weapons to discharge and shoot somebody they're together have to re-evaluate that. >> reporter: dallas officers mass shootings allegations of police brutality children shooting each other even themselves, lately it seems there's one headline, one tale of grief after another. >> i'm not really sure what the solution is but we have to be able to listen to each other and we got to be able to address the issues of institutional racism in our society. >> i just think we need to pray more and thank god for life and love one another. >> reporter: for many we spoke with the way forward is complicated but what's clear is that they don't worry about if there's going to be more violence. they worry about when and where it will be and that they say makes a change. overlooking center city, katherine scott channel6 "action news."

responded. that officer is expected to survive. it is unclear at this time whether the attack is connected to police shootings in dallas. and in suburban saint louis a driver shot an officer three times as he walked back to his car during a traffic stop. that officer was critically wounded but is also expected to survive. the motive is not yet known and both gunmen were captured. >> back here we have new information about two attempted abductions in newark. police announced today that they have a warrant out for this man's arrest 35-year-old joseph rudge still on the run tonight. police believe he is the one seen in surveillance video near the crime scenes along the 300 block of east main street. earlier this week he allegedly put a chemical soaked rag over two women's mouths and tried to kidnap them. investigators say rudge has a previous sex crimes conviction. they believe he is still in the newark area and if you see him, you're asked to call 911

immediately. a jump ruled today there a former elementary school employee will head to trial for child sex assault charges. only "action news" was in montgomery county as marcus forte walked into court this morning. forte allegedly met with his 13-year-old victim while working in the i.t. department at gwynedd-mercy academy. court documents say the alleged incidents took place at the school and at the young girl's home. forte will stay behind bars until his trial. >> time now for a check of traffic on the roads this friday. >> it's been a busy friday. matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center. how are we looking at this hour? >> it's been a busy week. it's been one of the roughest weeks on record for riders of the regional rails on septa because of the deficiencies found last week, the crazy schedules went into place on tuesday and this afternoon not only are we seeing delays because of those schedules but also no service on the inbound paoli thorndale regional rail line because of amtrak police activity near bryn mawr. so you might wander to use the norristown high speedline.

some of you can can probably do that. the good news is outbound trains are running but with delays on the paoli thorndale line headed towards chester county this afternoon. of course we also have delays headed down the shore on this friday afternoon in the summertime. here's 42 southbound by market street. there was continues on toward blackwood-clementon road and in westampton burlington county overturned vehicle on rancocas road eastbound so the ramp from 295 southbound to rancocas road remains blocked. use the ramp at 541 instead. crossing the river into northeast philadelphia a truck flipped over on the roosevelt boulevard southbound at horn neck road. it's in the outer drive. stick with the inner drive. expect delays. this is 95 northbound side still extra congested from approaching penn's landing up to girard but our disabled vehicles there are gone. still have a crash on the westbound pennsylvania turnpike past norristown. speeds in the teens and one by the king of prussia mall on 202 northbound jamming things up there. we're hoping for better things next week, rick and sharrie. >> yes, we are. thanks matt. have a nice weekend. >> still to come on "action

>> meteorologist melissa magee is here now with a closer look at that weekend forecast from accuweather that has a little bit of cooler temperatures in it. >> yeah, i mean, i think we're really going like the refreshing change that is coming our way after heat wave number two this year for philadelphia. we'll show you what's going on with those showers and storms on storm tracker6 live double scan radar. you can seat activity to the north of philadelphia and also across areas in south jersey and we're also tracking a pocket that is to the north and west of that 95 corridor. we've got a flash flood

warning, it's up until 9:15 this evening. we've already seen up to 2-inches of rain in the red shaded areas here, so it's for new hope, areas just to the north of pennington and also in mercer county there in princeton. we'll show you what we are tracking on storm tracker6 live double scan radar street level. you can see we've got 63 lightning strikes associated with the cluster that we're tracking. it's moving to the southeast of new hope pressing into pennington and also if you're traveling along route 206 headed straight for mercer county there in trenton as it is slowly moving to the south and east at about 10 miles per hour. now this cluster that was severe earlier today down across areas in south jersey and atlantic city and also in atlantic county i should say close to abseek done also along that garden state parkway we're tracking this moisture that comes on in and then it moves on out from a west to east direction. the heat index across the region currently 98 degrees. that's how hot it feels at the moment in philadelphia. feeling like 92 in dover. you've got the rain cooled air

out to the west in lancaster, 78 degrees still fairly humid over there. 86 at cape may and 76 degrees there in beach haven. here's satellite6 along with action radar. you can see the showers and storms across our region but all of this moisture well in advance of the cold front still off to our north and west. center of the storm across areas in the great lakes and the northern plains and there's that trailing cold front to the east of chicago. this will work its way eastward as we go throughout the day on saturday. future tracker6 showing you for the rest of tonight make sure you have the wet weather gear close to you. we've got some showers and storms, spotty in nature but where they are hitting they are slow moving so there could be some issues with localized flash flooding. as we get into 10 o'clock later on tonight a lot of that energy moving off to our north and east. things will refire, however, as we get into saturday afternoon. here's the setup tomorrow. warm and muggy, thunderstorms on the way with that cold front. high temperature otherwise coming in at 89 degrees. and also something to keep in mind is that philadelphia union are at home at 7:00 p.m.

you can watch it here on 6abc. it's warm and humid. we've got those spotty thunderstorms for the start of the game, a temperature of 84 degrees and once we get into finish the temperature coming in at 80. here's the setup for the second half of the weekend, that cold front moves on through. high pressure returns, the humidity drops. it's a good looking day with a northwesterly wind at 10 to 20 miles per hour and a high temperature on sunday of 86 degrees so you'll notice the difference by then. down the shore tomorrow we're tracking those showers and storms late in the day. otherwise, a high of 79 and a warm and comfortable breeze on sunday and at 84 the ocean temperature in the upper 60's. here's the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. it's soupy tomorrow with those thunderstorms around a high temperature of 89. breezy and less humid on sunday and at 86 degrees. on monday, comfortably warm at 86. tuesday sunny and warm, 89 degrees and the heat returns midweek, turning more humid as well, a high of 92. hazy, hot and humid on thursday and at 94 and another

pledging to commit to tolerance and understanding to committee themselves to a new day. it is friday night and the big story on "action news" tonight is the city after the day after for the city of dallas and that includes new information about what happened last night. [gunfire] >> the shooting attack erupted the ends of a peaceful protest, a protest against the police involved shootings in louisiana and minnesota. this was the terrible toll. 12 police officers were shot, five of them died. two civilians were shot. they have nonlife-threatening injuries. at a police identified this man, micah johnson aged 25 as one of the snipers. police used a robot to detonate a deadly device in his vicinity to kill johnson. police chief david brown talked about micah johnson today. >> the suspect said he
