but johnson will forever be remembered as the man who did this. micah johnson is the lone gunman who declared war on police in dallas and put black stripes on every badge in texas. it is friday night. the big story on "action news" tonight is new information about the man who brought dallas to its knees last night, with a snipper assault that sent that american city into panic. these are some of the images and sound that have been seared in the consciousness of this city and this nation. it was the end of a peaceful protest against the police shootingness louisiana and minnesota a when police in dallas came under assault. twelve cops were shot, five were killed. and today authorities searched the house of a different kind of american snipper, they

found that micah johnson had bomb making materials, ballistic vests, ammunition and a personal journal of combat tactics. they also scoured his facebook page to find that he described to black militant sites that preached violence. johnson was killed last night by a robot controlled bomb. today dallas mayor mike raw links spoke not of just last night but of this country's ongoing struggle with a racial divide. >> i will tell you you that this is on my generation of leaders. it is on our watch that we have allowed this to continue to fester, that we have let the next generation down a vicious path of rhetoric and action to pit one against the other. >> and dallas police chief david brown explained that johnson told police that he wanted to kill white people, especially white officers. we have received new cell phone video that really captured the utter disbelief

of what happened. >> you got a cop down. you got a cop down, yes. is there more cops down. >> four. >> yeah, he shot five, seven times. >> it is a dude. >> it is a snipper from up here somewhere. >> these are 59 men who gave their lives in the line of duty last night. brent thompson, age 43. he became first dallas transit officer killed in the agency's history. he was a father of six and a newlywed. thompson had just gotten married to another officer two weeks ago. three two-year old patrick zamarripa was a father of two, navy veteran. his father asked how could he survive three tours of duty in iraq and come back to the united states and get killed. >> since day one he was born he was a hero my little hero and he will be a hero, until the day i'm gone. >> family of the 40 year-old michael krol says that he knew the danger but never shied away from duty.

the michigan native loved his job, always wanted to be a cop, always wanted to serve his community. senior corporal lorne ahrens was on the dallas police force for 14 years and finally, five five-year old officer michael smith, another father, another veteran policeman, another veteran military man having served as an army ranger. white officers in three other states came under fire in ambushes today. an officer was wounded this morning during a traffic stop in st. louis county not far from ferguson. in georgia a shooter called 911 to report a vehicle break in and then opened fire as soon as the officer arrived. that officer is in stable condition. in tennessee, a black army veteran is a accused of targeting white victims when he opened fire today killing one and then wounding three others including a police officer. police sentiment, expressed here in philadelphia tonight, tell us about that. >> reporter: jim, that is right, protesters really marched all across the city. they have taken the subway here to city hall, here in the last couple of minutes, they have now begun to protest here on broad street right outside city hall. they sat down in the middle of the roadway. they are blocking traffic. the here over past couple days we have covered several protest, all have been peaceful but rhetoric, certainly has not, in some. >> there is no such thing as a good cop in a racist system. >> reporter: calling for revolution, calling police pigs, calling them men and women in blue, occupiers and even soluting the dallas snipper. >> i solute that brother. >> reporter: philly coalition for real justice had anger at 22nd and lehigh. >> america did that last night. america did that last night.

the "action news" big board, cecily? >> jim, we have been in heat wave number two the past few days, air temperatures in the mid 90's but heat index, the way it feels when you factor in the humidity upper 90's to hundred degrees. that was the peak of the heat yesterday. we did have have scattered downpours and thunderstorms moving through this evening but double scan live showing last of it exiting the coast between surf city and atlantic city. parts of the south jersey getting hit very hard especially in atlantic and burlington county. you can see this area, that is just to the north east of the atlantic city expressway near egg harbor is reporting about three, two and a half, enclose to 5 inches of rain, four and a half in pamona at the atlantic city airport and that could lead to some localized flash flooding. flash flood warnings have now been cancelled, and then double scan live is showing next round of showers and thunderstorms with this cold front, that would be sweeping through, during the day tomorrow, i'll have details on the timing of the storms and

relief behind it coming up with the full accu weather seven day forecast, jim. >> thanks, cecily. camden county official as rested a 44 year-old man as a suspected arsonist. police say child bricks junior was responsible for series of suspicious fires last week even. seven fire fighters were hurt fighting those blazes. he was charged with 14 counts of the aggravated arson. he was seen on several locations near the fires which led to his arrest. 22-year old michael desporto junior has been charged with a despicable crime, sexual assault and murder of his girlfriend's two-year old daughter. it happened in the couple's home this gloucester city. the child's mother, 26 year-old amber bovo is charged with child endangerment, authorities say the couple waited a day to get medical help for the girl and went shopping instead. still to come on "action
