making news in america this morning, breaking overnight, more protests over police shootings, dozens of people arrested as demonstrations turn violent. plus, new details about the military veteran who opened fire on dallas police officers. this morning we're learning of a 13th officer shot during the ambush. a mother also injured in those shootings is talking about how she shielded her children from the gunshots and the heroic actions of three officers who came to their rescue. >> developing now aerosmith guitarist joe perry collapsing on stage taken to the hospital. a woman's attempt to catch a foul ball with a food tray didn't go as planned but it is going viral.

good monday morning. we'll start with the outrage, the arrests as well as heart of break stemming from the police shootings last week and the deadly ambush on officers in dallas. >> dozens of protesterses arrested overnight as they tried to block a highway in baton rouge where alton sterling was shot. >> hundreds of black lives matter protesters hit the streets of inglewood, california. stopping traffic on a freeway near los angeles. this morning we're learning a 13th officer was shot during the rampage in dallas. this is new details emerge about the gunman and his sinter plans for a deadlier attack. latest live from the scene in dallas. abc's kenneth moton is there for us. kenneth, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, kendis and diane. there's a vigil in the city tonight. it's being called dallas strong and it's expected to be quite large. the community is trying to help the police department while police in other cities are just trying to keep the peace.

this morning, communities and protests. another night of demonstrations. and arrests after the recent police killings of black men. those rising racial tensions with a breaking point for micah johnson used his military training to shoot and kill five dallas police officers at a peaceful black lives matter protest. the fbi found bombmaking materials in his house, they believe he had plans for a bigger plot. david brown told cnn johnson taunted officers during a standoff before he was taken out by a robot with an explosive. >> laughing at us, singing asking how many did he get? >> as the city mourns a moment of unity, black lives matter came face-to-face with counterprotesters, no fights, just hugs. >> this how you take down a wall. parts of downtown dallas are

still a crime scene and closed but today several county buildings and businesses will re-open as the city tries to return to some sense of normalcy. diane and kendis. >> kenneth, what do we know about the 13th injured officer we're learning about? >> reporter: well, this shooting started and happened around a college campus of el centro and one of the officers of the college protecting the college campus, well, he's the 1th officer shot. he was shot under the vest and listen to this, five minutes after he was treated he was back in the line of duty protecting people. he will require surgery but this morning he is resting with his family at home. >> another brave story there coming out of dallas, thank you, kenneth moton. >> for the first time we are hearing from the mother of four who was injured in thursday's attack in dallas as well. shetamia taylor spoke to reporters at the hospital where she's being treated surrounded by doctors and her sons. >> so get this, she said she

would attend another demonstration to show her boys she's not a quitter. she broke down in tears while talking about the officers who came to her rescue. >> an officer jumped on top of me and covered me. they had no regard for their own life. they stayed there with us, they surrounded my son and i. i'm so thankful. i had never seen anything like that. the way they just came around us and just guarded us like that. >> taylor was wounded in her right leg she also broke that leg just below her knee. it may be up to three months before she's able to walk again. well, president obama does head to dallas tomorrow to meet with the families of the officers killed last week. he'll also speak at a memorial service. >> the violence and its aftermath forced the president to return early from his trip to spain before leaving he said attacking police only hurts the cause of reforming the criminal justice system and responded to

the protests taking place in cities across the country. >> the overwhelming majority of people who are involved in the black lives matter movement, what they really want to see is a better relationship between the police and the community. >> he also said protesters must recognize that most police are trying to protect people fairly and he claimed rhetoric portraying police as doing otherwise does little to build support for reform. we'll have more from dallas later in this half hour. one of donald trump's prospective running mates was in dallas over the weekend and voiced support for abortion rights while there. it was during an interview on abc's "this week," retired army lieutenant general michael flynn, a registered democrat said he thinks women should have the right to choose putting him at odds with republican ideology. governor chris christie former house speaker, newt gingrich and scott brown of massachusetts are also on the short list. hillary clinton may be

getting the final endorsement that she's been waiting for, bernie sanders reportedly planning to attend a rally with clinton in new hampshire set for tomorrow after a party meeting in orlando over the weekend, the democratic party is now on track to ratify what may be considered to be the most progressive policy agenda in modern history. two earthquakes rocked ecuador last night and people ran out into the streets as they hit the pacific northwest coast of ecuador, the same area hit by a devastating earthquake earlier this year. last night it measured 5.9 and 6.4 in magnitude. no immediate reports of damage or injuries. more than a dozen wildfires raging in eight western states and two people have now been arrested for starting one in the boulder, colorado, area. officials say two alabama men didn't properly extinguish their campfire and it spread out of the campsite and a day later destroyed at least three homes. now more than 2,000 residents have been evacuated.

a different kind of extreme weather to tell you about. this time in the northern plains last night. severe thunderstorms with damage from strong winds and very large hail, there was also a tornado reported in montana, but it caused no significant damage. there's also some flash flooding to report so let's look at the radar. storm cells hanging around the upper midwest today with the intense weather centered on northern dakota and minnesota. straight line winds though may reach 80 miles an hour. still ahead details about the largest single sale in sports history. and also developing overnight a medical emergency for rock star joe perry. after collapsing on stage an update on his condition ahead. plus, the scare on a u.s. aircraft carrier caught on camera. see what happens when a plane falls off a flight deck. maybe investigators say

human error was to blame for this accident on board the "uss eisenhower." the cable used to catch the plane snapped but amazingly the pilot manages to keep the plane from crashing into the sea. eight sailors were injured. the navy says workers missed critical steps towards maintenance. investigators are trying to figure out a midnight mystery on board a delta jet. several passengers became ill and showed elevated levels of carbon monoxide in their blood and made an emergency landing in tulsa so the sick passengers could get medical attention. it's not known if the carbon monoxide came from the jet itself or something that might have been brought on board. some big news to tell you about at the crosssection of business and sports this morning. so you have the ultimate

"the new york times" reporting a group led by major talent agency is the buyer and an announcement could come as early as today. the president dana white hasn't commented yet but shortly after the report was published he posted a smiley face emoji on his twitter page. serena williams has been hit in the pocketbook. the pound isn't worth as much as it was before the brexit vote. that means her 2 million pound prize is now worth $380,000 less than it was before, but don't cry too hard for serena, she still gets $2.6 million. the devaluation didn't affect the men's winner, though, andy murray who is from scotland. >> okay. at the box office it was another good week for animated animals. so there is plenty of snow at idaho's mountain ski resorts but they are offering hiking, biking and other summer activities, not skiing, unfortunately. snow in july is rare. not unknown. the irony the ski resorts had to make snow last december. >> interesting irony. most drivers in the northern plains will encounter wet roads this morning and possibly flooding. roads will be wet in the south. if you're flying expect delays in minneapolis, kansas city and atlanta. updating top story, flesh clashes over police and protesters angry over the deaths of two black men by officers in minnesota and louisiana. about 40 protesters were arrested as they tried to block a highway in baton rouge. meanwhile, in dallas, police say the gunman who killed five officers had a much bigger plot in mind and local officials are defending the unprecedented use of a robot to kill that suspect.

>> the use of that robot bearing the bomb was controversial. do you think it was warranted? >> i do believe it was warranted. it saved lives. >> we're learning this morning also that a 13th officer was shot during that ambush. el centro college says one of its own officers was hit while guarding an entrance. another officer injured by flying glass but that officer continued to help others. they both did actually despite injuries. aerosmith guitarist joe perry is in stable condition after collapsing on stage. he was performing with alice cooper and johnny depp when he got up and walked offstage and fell once he got backstage. a member of the audience who happened to be an emt gave him cpr. he was treated at an emergency room then transferred to another hospital in manhattan. condolences are pouring in after a gruesome scene played out on live television. victor barrio became the first matador to die during a bull fight in 30 years. he was just 29 years old gored in the leg and chen the chest as

his wife watched from the stands and viewers watched on television. other bull fighters stepped in to distract the thousand-pound bull so they could rush him to the hospital but it was too late. a teenager in pennsylvania is recovering after falling 100 feet down a well. rescue crews in lackawanna county face a number of challenges in rescuing the girl stuck for three hours. the first police officer on the scene went into the hole and stayed with the teen in ten feet of cold water and they eventually lowered a basket. that way they finally managed to bring her out. robbers allegedly took advantage of a smartphone game that sends people to remote areas. 14 staked out areas they knew would draw players and may have been involved in dozens of robberies. players have to visit sites as part of the game. pokemon go was released just last week and right now the number one free app in the apple store. some notes from the u.s. olympic trials.

stand to raise money for the police officers following last week's attack and so far hundreds of people have stopped by that stand for lemonade, brownies and cookie. >> very cool. the girls say it's their way of showing support and saying thank you. they've raised $5,000 and counting. >> so most of us would find walking a tightrope challenging or doing a backflip on a motorcycle challenging but what about doing both of those while a stunt pilot flies her plane under you. >> impossible. but apparently it happened. biker jimmy fitzpatrick admits he can do backflips in his sleep but was worried about the distract of the plane. melissa was worried about having only a few feet of clearance. >> we're not sure what sketch yi andy lewis was worried as he crossed the high line while all this was going on but they made it look easy. >> got the timing completely

military. his homecoming made for quite a scene over the weekend. reporter john garcia of our station in chicago has that story. >> reporter: adam says it was one of the best hugs he's ever received and it happened on the mound of his 7-year-old daughter's championship softball game. the army staff sergeant hadn't been home since february but he arrived this afternoon in time for the game and somehow managed to keep it a surprise from his daughter. >> i was just really happy. >> she was completely oblivious. my wife did a pretty good job and then friend of the family did a pretty good job of setting this thing up. so aubrey had no idea i would be here. >> reporter: isdale served 12 years and been deployed to all the middle east hot spots for months at a time currently stationed in hawaii but his family had to stay behind in the chicago area. >> it is tough, but we all have sacrifices and that's just one that you have to make sometimes. >> reporter: aubrey turns 8 this week. his wife and 1 1/2-year-old son were in on the surprise but not
