philadelphia. the multivehicle crash happened just before 5:00 at the strawberry mansion bridge. six people were injured. we know that three children, 6, and 14, plus two adults were taken to hahnemann hospital and a man was taken to penn presbyterian for treatment. and crews are clearing the wreckage of this crash. it hit the temple university campus like a flash. the president is bounced after 3.5 years on the job. vernon odom is live at temple. there are few people on that campus that saw this coming. >> reporter: jim, for most here it landed like a rock out here. they seemed to come out of nowhere and sources tell me that president theobald and the board of trustees were wrangling over major budget issues for more

than a week. >> the situation with the budget rests with the president and someone has to be accountable. >> so the president, neil theobald is out the door. word spread that the president will be fired by the board of trustees. trustee chairman, patrick o'connor says that the vote was unanimous because they are still hot under the collar that the board is facing a shortfall of $22 million in student aid money. the merit scholarship program is in the red big time and the board says they were kept in the dark. >> when dr. theobald first learned about the deficit it was at million and instead of ensuring that the deficit had been resolved or addressed. the deficit grew and the board was not aware of it. >> temple's administrator will be appointed acting president, and he served in that job before

>> sub contracted workers at philadelphia international airport voted today overwhelmingly to walk off the job during the democratic convenience. the union trying to organization security workers and baggage handlers and cabin cleaners are fighting for higher wages and benefits. they work for contractors hired by airlines and mayor jim kenney issue aid quote, they deserve good wages and the right to form a union without interference from their employer. the body of a volunteer firefighter killed during a training exercise is back in his home town. representatives escort the the body of tim mcclanahan to lewes this morning. the 46-year-old was killed when he fell from a helicopter in georgetown monday night. the federal aviation administration is leading the investigation into his death.

members of the 48th basic recruit class graduated from the gloucester police academy. 46 men and women earned their badges in sewell. they were on hand in gloucester county. it will will he one of the philadelphia largest projects ever. and we are seeing how it will transform one of the busiest neighborhoods. john rawlins took a tour of east market today. how did it go? >> reporter: it's still a work in progress and you don't come without a hard hat t was a year ago that they started to pour the concrete here. a century old department store warehouse is being revamped. when the workers are finished, east market will have housing and easeries and bars and it

an american flag stolen from a south jersey home on it's 4th of july is back where it belongs tonight. the corcoran family says a woman dropped the flag off in a box on monday. and the corcorans say they are sincerely thankful for the person righting a wrong. the flag was originally given to the family for the funeral for this morn, a brother that was killed fighting for vietnam in 1969. new at 6:00 tonight, the story of a young man and the loss of his constant companion but this companion has two
