laid to rest today. plus, a building buzz on the campaign trail, as donald trump prepares to announce his running mate. but the big story is the heat and humidity in the entire region. sky 6 hd showing us the view from penn's landing. on top of those steamy conditions, accuweather is tracking the possibility of storms later today. for more on that david murphy joins us from the "action news" big board. >> reporter: we start with the big story and that is the heat and humidity, an excessive heat warning and advisories kicked in at the 12:00 hour and they don't expire until 8:00 tomorrow evening, all day today and all day friday you have these issues. excessive heat warning up and down the i-95 corridor, it will feel like over 100 degrees at times, maybe even 102 and 103, and concerns about the excessive

heat maybe not as bad in the central area but keep the drinks throwing and check on your neighbors and take shady breaks in the a.c. today. 84 is the current temperature, we are running behind where we thought we would be by noon. we were socked in with cloud cover through most of the morning. and now we expect the numbers to shoot up. 88 in dover and 86 in wilmington. dew points a big problem today like yesterday and even worse in some cases. anything over 70 is oppressive. you have that everywhere. 75 in philadelphia and 76 dew point in wilmington and how about this dew point of 82 that is the dew point, not the temperature, this sort of dew point is the kind of thing you feel on a bad day in new orleans, louisiana or biloxi, mississippi, that is true gulf air there. when you look at the heat index values, 105 degrees, that jumped

up in the last hour, that is super oppressive humidity at this point. 92 is the heat index in philadelphia and keep in mind we could add another 9 degrees to the temperature, so we are in line for the potential of high heat index values up over 100. and the possibility of showers and thunderstorms, not a lot happening now the all to the north and west and we are not expecting this until later this afternoon into this evening. a live view at stormtracker 6 live double scan it shows the disturbance that is bringing the storms east and lightning forming in the southwest and after 3:00 in particular, i would be on the lookout for some of these pop-up showers and thunderstorms, and maybe even before then in the northern and western suburbs, i'll show you those on future tracker 6 and talk about what is half this on saturday and sunday. >> thank you. within the past five minutes the city of philadelphia

team of meteorologists on twitter and facebook. for the first time we see the problem plaguing thousands of septa users that ride the regional rails, they were over the septa maintenance yard showing the cracks that took 120 trains off the tracks, the problem is hard to see but the officials caught the problem with routine inspections. septa is trying to figure out what caused the defect. >> we sent the sample of what broke out to the lab so they can understand how that fails and we took samples that had cracks out to the lab to see how far the crack is, we are still doing a lot of technical testing. >> "action news" reporter, john rawlins was at the septa maintenanceance yard this morning, coming up he'll detail the problem and the work to get the trains back in service eventually. we are still working to find out the names of two men killed in crashes this morning. along the 1700 block of broadway

in salisbury township. investigators say the driver lost control and crashed into a tree and he and his passenger were both killed. president obama will host a nationally televised town hall tonight, focusing on community and policing. abc lana zach joins us live from washington's town hall location. >> reporter: good afternoon, the crowds are starting to line up here outside of the president's town hall, and d.c. feels relatively calm there were protests overnight in many areas of the country including minneapolis. the casket of philando castille made its way through st. paul, minnesota, castille would have turned 30 years old but today they remember his life. >> you told him to give you his

a fast moving wild fire in new mexico, has burned nearly a dozen buildings to the ground and more are in danger. officials are going door-to-door evacuating hundreds of people about 200 miles south of albuquerque at least 800 acres are burned since the fire started yesterday. no reports of injuries or deaths reported. britain's new prime minister is keeping a packed schedule. theresa may is getting rid of rivals while adding new people to her team. she added boris johnson, the former london mayor was the prominent member of the campaign to leave the european union. new numbers show a major fear factor in the race for president. according to an associate the

>> well -- >> stormtracker 6 live double scan don't have a whole lot of rain out there just now but you see the formation of showers and thunderstorms well to the north and west of philadelphia and we'll watch the northern suburbs in particular for the potential of that later this afternoon. looking outside at the beach. there were umbrellas up for beach visitors and now things are getting better out there. we started out cloudy and in some cases foggy this morning. definitely warm and muggy and now with the sun coming out it feels worse. 84 in philadelphia, currently it's zooming up pretty quickly, your dew point is 75, anything over 70 is oppressive humidity, and it follows sticky out there. winds from the southwest too, the usually region for humid air, 12 miles per hour as we continue to draw in that gulf moisture, temperatures across the region warming up well, 83 in allentown untrenton and 86 in will tong and dover the sun is

breaking out and up to 88 degrees and most of these spots are on their way to the 90s later on as i said the heat index values are climbing as with. feels like the 90s in philadelphia and the hot oppressive spot of the day is the majority of delaware from south of wilmington through dover. 109 index, that is just about as bad as you'll get around here. we have future tracker 6 picking up the possibility of the showers and thunderstorms and the new model runs are you pressing this up near allentown and the northern suburbs, anyone around the region needs to look out for this, they are normally in the northern suburbs, maybe something near philadelphia and maybe not. they could produce brief, heavy downpours and isolated gusty winds so get out of that pool if you hear thunder same thing goes for the beach but the beach is

far from thunderstorms field. hot and humid and a spotty thunderstorm is possible. clouds to sun down at the shore today. 87 degrees in atlanta sfic city. inland 75 in the water. notice how the wind coming up from the south doesn't bring that cool breeze into the delaware beaches, down there you'll be hot and humid too, 92 in rehoboth. 94 in philadelphia, and we are waiting until in the afternoon to get there. a thunderstorm cannot be ruled out and it will feel like it's over 100 and for the evening commute it's air conditioners on everywhere, 90s and high humidity and the thunderstorm chance especially up north. your exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast we are going for a high of 94 today and tomorrow we do it again. 96 and it's still oppressive and heat index is over 100 and we get into the coming weekend and things get better and warm and sunny and a high of 89.
