you, 6:00 a.m., saturday, july 16. here's some of the stories we're following on "action news," the turkish government blames a cleric for an attempted military coup. a cleric that lives in the poconos. a man faces a would-be robber overnight as he arrives home and he is shot several times, plus, we are days away from the start of the republican national convention, we're clive in cleveland with a preview. but first, meteorologist chris sowers joins us with a look at the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. chris you needed to something about the heat. it's too hot. >> reporter: i'm not a fan of the heat and humidity, i don't

mind a 90-degree day here and there, but constantly, that's the problem. that's almost the entire seven-day forecast. here's a lovely shot, though, it's a beautiful start to your saturday. humidity levels are fairly high, we'll see a decent amount of sunshine throughout the day. that sun translates temperatures swell into the 90s. we're starting out in the mid 70s. 77 in philadelphia. above where we should be for this time of the year. poconos, 62. 70s for everybody else. humidity levels, again are, very high. dewpoints in the mid 60s. we have pockets of clouds to the west and more clouds to the south. the delaware valley is sandwiched in between the two. we'll start out with sunshine, just a few clouds building in the afternoon, one or two areas get hit with an isolated thunderstorm later on. sun and clouds this morning, same thing throughout the afternoon. after 4:00 p.m. is when i expect

to see pop-up showers and thunderstorms. 1:00 a.m., 92. 3:00 p.m., 92 and 5:00 p.m., 90 degrees. one or two areas will pick up a quick-hitting shower or thunderstorm. when i come back future tracker 6 i'll time it out for you, we'll have a hot and humid seven-day forecast. >> 6:02 a.m. developing overnight, turkey's president is claiming victory in an attempted military coup. here's what we know, nearly 200 people died in more than 1,000 were injured in clashes, many of them are civilians. dozens are police. we know that 1500 troops some high-ranking officers were detained. supporters of the coup accused the president of softening his stance on isis and putting his

people in danger. overnight the president said this. >> this nation has a certain government using their own will by elections. the government is in control. >> in washington, president obama has called on all sides in turkey to support the democratically elected government. turkey the main supporter against the up rising of bashir assad. the man behind the military coup is a former rival of turkey at president. he blends mystical form of islam with advocacy and education. iman is blamed for the

overthrow. u.s. justice department has no comment about the case. this coming week, the republican national convention gets underway monday. today heats up as the presumptive nominee donald trump formally introduces his running mate. stephanie ramos is in cleveland, what's happening now? >> reporter: we see the workers setting up, we'll see that throughout the weekend, indiana governor and donald trump's running mate is taking jabs at hillary clinton and explaining why he is rallying behind trump. as as the republican national convention continues, mike pence took to fox news to talk about his running mate. moments after trump tweeted

pence as the vice presidential pick high ranking leaders praised him. >> he is experienced and sures up a conservative base that's important. he is a complimentary to donald trump as far as personality. >> reporter: it was this past march pence signed the religious freedom restoration act. the right protects a person or business to follow their religious believes. hillary clinton called pence the most extreme vp pick in a generation. meanwhile, clinton is still narrowing her list of potential returning mates campaigning with jim kaine and meeting with elizabeth warren and castro. her campaign said she is closing in on a vp selection and expected to make an announcement

next week. in just a few days, pence and trump will take the stage at the republican national convention and security is tighter than ever before. stephanie ramos back to you. a man is shot three times and lives after an attempted robbery at his home in somerdale. someone approached him on loreto avenue around 3:30 a.m. the suspect pulled up in a jet stream and shot the victim. the 45-year-old man had a grazed injury to the head and shot in the leg and back. the shooter drove away and has not been located. a 19-year-old man was shot to death on a sidewalk feet from his home. evidence markers littered the 3100 block of north patten

street in hunting park. the victim was pronounced dead at temple university hospital. well, this is not the endings a local family had hoped for. tinika ballard had been missing for days, yesterday her body was found in the of her car. the car was parked on the 2500 block of leon street mayfair. she was seen july 6. driving the car her mom said she was troubled. >> she lost her apartment, she was going to lose her car and phone. she couldn't pay nothing, she was stressing out, they didn't want to be here norm. >> the car is being authorly examined by investigators before a final determination can be made. >> crooks are using this hot weather to commit crimes of opportunity in bucks county. break-ins are on the rise.

thieves stole valuables by getting into open windows in falls township. police recommend a motion detecter. >> get scared, balls the awning they -- because, the awning, they don't see the light, and automatically triggers and scarce them away. another warning sign a thief is near your property listen for your dog barking. >> thieves faces charges for 89 homes across the area. he is accused of breaking into homes from august 21 to july 15. money and food was taken in every single one of the burglaries. samuels is being held on a half million dollars bail. 6:08. if you use septa regional rail, there is more relief on the way.

the agency is adding more train cars to ease crowding while defective cars were pulled out of service. they expect to have five additional cars in operation by monday morning rush that means more seats. septa expects to continue using leased trains through august, you can check the septa website for the latest schedule. pay raises are on the way for the philadelphia's largest union. the union represents more than 7,000 people. the new contract provides a stepped wage increase, additional money for the health fund, it is expected to strengthen the pension fund. if you play golf you could be hitting the greens in style. we'll show you the golf cart from a luxury automaker. a roof is ripped off a building as strong storms rip through the south.

arkansas. good news, nobody was hurt, but gusts reached 50 miles per hour in spots, more than 100,000 customers lost power. crews busy trying to get the customers back online. a tree took off the side of a home in little rock arkansas. look at the damage there. dozens of trees came crashing down, blocking roads and littering properties. one tree missed hitting a man as he pulled into his carport. >> no rain around here, just heat. >> reporter: we could use rain, grass is brown, flowers need a drink. let's get you outside, we could have thunderstorm activity developing later on, but most of us stay dry. we have heat lasting tomorrow and monday looks worse. we get into monday, high temperatures, 95, 96. jersey shore, it will be warm on the sand, as well. at least you're in the 80s. everybody else in the 90s,

beautiful morning waking up to cloud cover, you'll see the sun later on. double scan live is clear, keep it clear through the next few hours. last couple of days we were into it, warm front pushed through harley thursday morning, we started out with clouds, by afternoon full sun we shot up to 96 feeling like 103. yesterday, 92 was the actual air temperature with the humidity we peaked out at 94 degrees. today with the humidity it will feel like 94. we started out at 77 this morning which is close to the seasonal average, maybe 3 or 4 degrees warmer. shorepoints, 74 for cape may and atlantic city. beach haven 78. trenton, 72. nothing going on out there right now. satellite and radar, for the most part is clear, clouds off to the west and the south. look out for the pop-up shower or thunderstorm late in the day.

future tracker shows that developing after lunchtime. i think this is a little bit too fast. i think you will wake up to a decent amount of sun and clouds build in the afternoon, let's say by 3 or 4, we'll see pop-up showers or thunderstorms. one or two might be on the stronger side. i'm not anticipating much in the way of severe weather. if you pick up these showers or thunderstorms after 4:00 p.m. they will produce heavy, drenching downpours and cloud to ground lightning strikes. overnight tonight partly cloudy, tomorrow, same thing starting out with a combination of sun and clouds, one or two areas you pick up a quick-hitting shower or thunderstorm. those who see it, you will get relief. it will drop temperatures down a good ten or 11 degrees, if you don't pick up that storm we're baking. temperatures in time 90s. sunday in the 90s.

crash left part of a city block looking like a demolition derby. police are investigate whether alcohol played a role in this. a car crossed haverford avenue and plowed into other cars at 2:30 a.m. near 55th street in west philadelphia. the driver is being treated at penn presbyterian. we are told she will be okay, but facing charges. one man is dead and two other people, including a teenager injured. shots were fired around 8:45 p.m. on the 2800 block of north 9th street. a 64-year-old man was hit in the back. he died at the hospital. a woman remains in critical condition after she was shot in the chest. a 15-year-old girl listed in stable condition after being hit in the backside. at this point police say they do not know if any of the victims was the intended target. they say nearly a dozen shots were fired from two guns. >> we found 11 spent shell

there. we had a week that actually started out all right with temperatures in the mid 80s. once the warm front pulled through, that was thursday morning, at that point the heat and humidity poured on in here, it hadn't left. it's an oppressive morning around the delaware valley. as we look live on sky6 live hd old city, you can see the sunshine shining broughtly. 77 degrees in -- brightly. 77 degrees in philadelphia. dewpoint, 66. we were in the 70s this past week, it's lower, but it's sticky. pressure is holding stealed. where do we stand in a number of 90-degree days in the city of philadelphia organ average, we see 24 of them. the prediction from accuweather is 32 this year. so far we've seen 13. today, 14, tomorrow, 15, monday, 16. tuesday, we could go on and on and on. when you factor in the humidity it feels 2 to 3 degrees warmer

than the actual air temperatures. most areas are around 75 or 76 this morning. here's satellite and radar, clouds throughout the mid atlantic states. we're waking up with sun. clouds out to the west. frontal system to the south where most of the shower and thunderstorm activity stays today. one or two areas could see a brief, passing storm around here, but most of it is in the carolinas and the virginias today. water vapor image is represented with this color right here. as we set it in motion that disappearance. this comes in from the southwest. this is the southwesterly flow and it continues to usher in all that humidity. today will be another sticky day across the delaware and the lehigh valleys. future tracker 6, i think this is a little bit too soon to start popping these storms. expect a combination of sun and clouds. i would hold these storms off until 3:00 p.m., 330.

everyone, 6:54 saturday morning, okay, why is it so hot? before i answer that, we're not too far away from the cooler air. it's nice and chilly up here, there's maine and vermont and new hampshire. it's chilly up to want north, and what's going on for us and everybody's across the lower 48, we have this high pressure here sprawling out they are baking in the heartland of the nation. at the surface, that's biting heat. at the surface we have the dreaded bermuda high that's pumping in the humidity from the south. you have to go up to northern new england and canada which is where we should be for this time of the year. this looks like it will stay in place, and drift off to the southwest as we get into the following week. in the meantime we're into it. 92 degrees, humid, spotty thunderstorms possible with the humidity feels like 95.
