>> thank you so much for waking up with us, 7:00 a.m., saturday, july 16. here's some of the stories we're following on "action news," the turkish government blames a cleric for an attempted military coup, a cleric that lives in the poconos. a man faces a would-be robber overnight as he arrives home and he is shot several times. plus, we're days away from the start of the republican national convention. we're live in cleveland with a preview, but first outside we go to meteorologist chris sowers and the accuweather forecast. chris glad you're outside and not me. >> reporter: gray feels like i'm standing in a steam room. you know what i am talking about when your trying to lose weight. it's very humid, temperatures in the 60s and 70s. once we pick up the heating from the sun we should topple

[gunshots] here's what we know, nearly 200 people died and more than 1,000 were injured in clashes, many of them are civilians, dozens police officers. 1500 troops, some of them high ranking officers have been detained. supporters of the coup accused the president of softening his stance on isis. overnight the president had this to say. >> this nation has a certain

government using their own will by elections. the government is in control. >> in washington, president obama has called on all sides in turkey to support the democratically elected government. turkey is the main supporter of the uprising against syrian president assad. a lawyer for the turkish government said look no farther than the poconos, an imam and former rival of the turkish president. the president publicly accused him of plotting to overthrow the secular government from a gated compound in monroe county. he released a statement saying he condemned the coup attempt in the strongest terms. the republican national

convention begins on monday, but today heats up as the presumptive nominee donald trump introduces his running mate. abc's stephanie ramos is live and joys us with a preview. a big time for ohio. >> reporter: it is gray, it's going to be a jammed-packed week along with the speakers, the balloons are ready, music and of course, the man of the hour, donald trump taking the stage this week along with his running mate indiana governor, and running mate mike pence who is taking jabs at hillary clinton and explaining why he is rallying behind trump. as press for the republican national convention continues mike pence took to fox news talking about joining donald trump as his running mate. >> this man is the right leader for america. >> reporter: moments after trump

in a blue jeep and demanded money and shot the victim before he could comply. the 43-year-old had a graze injury to the head and shots to the leg and back. he is in stable condition. the shooter drove away and this morning has not been located. also new this morning, a 19-year-old man was shot to death on a sidewalk, just feet from his home. evidence markers littered the 3100 block of north patton street in hunting park. police are trying to figure out a motive in the case. the victim was pronounced at temple university hospital. if you use septa's regional rail there's more relief on the way for you. the agency is adding train cars to ease crowding while it repairs the defective cars it pulled out of service. septa expects to have additional five train cars by monday morning rush. that means more seats. septa expects to use the leased trains throughout august.

outside city hall last night. demonstrators thought to bring attention to others killed by police officers including castille in minnesota whose final moments played out on facebook live. the event was held across the county and organized under the name together we stand. there was an outpouring of support for officers in the wake of policemen ambush in dallas, texas. all police officers in his city for free, he said it was his way of saying thank you for their sacrifice to serve and protect. he said he hopes his act of kindness encourages others to appreciate those who put their lives on the line every single day. great deed in colorado. 7:15 as folks head outside. you were out there, what are you saying chris? >> reporter: let's get you

outside, it is very, very sticky this morning. dewpoints in the 60s and 70s. with the sunshine we're expecting in the late morning hours and the first part of the afternoon we'll have temperatures in the 90s. you combine the two, we'll have feels-like temperatures around 95, 96. it's not dangerous, but it's getting into that area where you have to use common sense if you're out and about. take frequent breaks and stay hydrated and take shade. poconos today only topping out around 80 degrees with the humidity which is not going to be much of anything at all. it will feel nice and refreshing in the higher elevations. the poconos and the jersey shore that's the spot to go today. here's the late week heat that rolled in here. we originally thought the warm front was going to arrive on tuesday, it was warm an tuesday, but it didn't get in here until thursday. we want -- we went from 84 to 96.

today will be similar to that, we're forecasting 92 it will feel like 95. normally we should bottom out at 70. we're starting out a good 7 degrees above average. we'll finish 7 to ten degrees above normal. 79 in philadelphia. wilmington, 75. trenton, 74. allentown, 72. poconos, 65. 70s for the jersey shore. these are the numbers you want to pay close attention to. this is how it feels, these are the dewpoints the way we measure the moisture in the air. you start hitting 65 that's more humid. a lot of area is above that. 07 down right awful. we use houston as the benchmark the most humid city in the lower 48. they are 73. cape may, 74. yes it feels awful out there. satellite and radar be nice and

he is in control of his country after an attempted military coup that put more than 1500 soldiers behind bars and left dozens of people dead. plus, several parked cars are damaged after a driver slams into them in west philadelphia overnight. we may mark an official heat wave today. the million dollar question is there any relief in sight? outside we go to meteorologist chris sowers with a look ahead, chris a million dollar question, is there relief?

coup is living in the poconos. >> reporter: chaos unfolding on the streets of turkey. [chanting]. >> reporter: bombs exploding at the turkish parliament in ankara. these pictures showing the aftermath of the attack. thankfully no reported casualties. overnight in turkey, the president urging his pro government supporter to amass in the in the street. john kerry responded. >> i hope there's stability and peace and continuity within turkey, but i have nothing to add with respect to what has transpired at this moment. >> fighter jets flying low in anakra a display of intimidation. u.s. embassy warning americans

radical islam. two americans were killed, sean copeland and his son brody. today eastern state penitentiary will honor the victims of the about a steel day massacre. french flags will be at half staff during that event and there will be a moment of silence. new on "action news," a car crash left part of a city block looking like a demolition derby and police are investigating whether alcohol played a role in this. the car crossed haverford avenue and plowed into four other vehicles. you can see the damage there. this happened near 55th street in west philadelphia. the driver is being treated at penn presbyterian. we are told she will be okay, but she is facing charges. one man is dead and two other people including a teenager are injured after a triple shooting this happened in

north philadelphia. shots were fired around 8:45 last night right there on the 2800 block of north 9th street. we know that a 64-year-old man was hit in the back. he died at the hospital. a woman remains in critical condition after she was shot in the chest. a 15-year-old girl listed in stable condition after being hit in the backside. nearly a dozen shots were fired from two guns. police are hoping surveillance cameras can help identify the shooter. just two days before the republican national convention begins in cleveland, ohio, the presumptive nominee for president will officially announce his running mate and that man is indiana governor mike pence. by adding mike pence to the ticket he gained experience politician with deep washington connections. he was 6 term congressman before

becoming governor. the city of cleveland will be in the spotlight after becoming the winning city for the nba. it will shine next week as the republican party officially initiates it's candidate for president. sarah bloomquist has a preview. >> reporter: protesters are on the move in cleveland, although their numbers are small that will change. the city has spent months preparing for them and any other security risks. black lives matter matter, black lives matter. >> reporter: protesters march in the names of black lives matter. dozens of police officers on bikes followed behind video taping their every move. police departments from across the country are sending in about 2500 officers to assist the 500 cleveland police dedicated to the convention. federal agencies will help. we have within dhs some 3,000 personnel that would be dedicated to the security of the republican national convention

and the democratic national convention each. >> reporter: fencing is going up. barricades are ready to go. surveillance cameras are wired. roads will be closed. air monitors are in place, several command centers are operational. this security plan has been in the work more than a year. >> this year from july 18 to july 21st will be the safest place in the entire world. the security forces that we've had on the ground for more than a year are top notch. >> reporter: that's outside, inside, students helped inflate the 125,000 balloons that will drop from the convention ceiling. the stage is set with the final security sweep, construction was completed in record time because the nba finals last month. >> never been done before in less than five weeks, but southwest it always takes democrat also a little bit longer to finish things. >> hang on, hang on. it's partisan here.

we go live sky6 live hd down in penns landing you can see the u.s. olympia. you can see the moshulu. not a ripple on the delaware river. it's humid, temperatures in the 70s and the humidity levels continue to climb. double scan live is clear. it may get active later on this afternoon with the heating of the day. speaking of the heat we've seen plenty of it. high temperature on thursday, 96 degrees, that's the hottest temperatures we've recorded so far this year. heath index, 93. yesterday, 92 feels like temperature of 94. we had cloud cover that's why the temperature was down a little bit. today is similar to yesterday, we'll top out at 92 feeling like 95. uv index, sun an clouds, on a scale of 1 to 11 we'll give it an 8 in the city of

philadelphia. burn time is 25 minutes or less, for somebody with fair skin and the key time frame between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. apply the sunscreen often. especially the jersey shore where the u very much index is a 9 that's where you will pick up direct rays from the sun and reflection from the sand and the water. philadelphia is closing in on 80 and very humid dewpoints in the mid 60s to the low 70s. clouds off to the west, clouds to the south we're seeing sunshine out there right now. that will continue over the next few hours, we get into the afternoon hours, 3:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., that's when the showers and thunderstorms will start flaring up. the clicker says 1:30 p.m. i think it will be later than that. let's say around 3:00 p.m. it will start to flare up. note how isolated it is. a lot of us will stay dry.
