moments before police shoot a man that was lying on the ground in miami, florida. and we are following new developments in the shakeup of temple university's president. but the big story is the breaking details of the murder of a 15-year-old boy gunned down as he was leaving a basketball game. police now have a suspect in custody of barnes. barnes was the shot in the face back on july 11th. the 16-year-old was arrested at his house this morning and is currently being questioned by detectives. moving to the weather front now, we are expecting dangerously hot conditions over the next couple of days including an excessive heat watch along with plenty of humidity. sky 6 hd looking live at center city, the warmer air is beginning to move in with perhaps another heat wave. karen rogers in for david murphy

outside on the terrace with the latest from accuweather. >> reporter: you can feel the difference today beautiful and bright but getting height. looking at stormtracker 6 live double scan we have clear skies and a few high clouds up there we are looking good as far as that is concerned. right now we are heating things up. 84 in martins creek and 86 in coatesville and 86 in saint david's, that after this morning we were starting in the upper 50s in locations. 85 currently in center city and right now 85 in browns mills and 85 at the boardwalk in a.c. and 85 in glassboro, and 85 degrees in smyrna, delaware. so turning the temperatures up a bit. but how about the dew points. right now it's not terribly humid. the humidity is not bad at all at 61 degrees, maybe slightly humid, i think it will drop

further. here is what you can expect for the evening commute, we are staying dry today and keeping our sunshine and hitting a high of 90 degrees, so a few degrees above average, and a few degrees above yesterday's high of 87. 5:00 p.m. 88 and bright sunshine and a few clouds around and 6:00 coming down from that and 7:00 p.m. 86 degrees. the national weather service has already posted an excessive heat warning for saturday morning to sunday afternoon and they will likely extend that to sunday. here is the impact over the next five days, today a moderate impact at 90 degrees and more so tomorrow heating up and turning up the humidity. saturday is hotter still and sunday will be humid and monday is when the core of the heat really hits us. when i come in in a minute and show you the seven-day forecast, it will be surprising to see 90s every day in the seven day

period. it will be a while we deal with this heat. well, that impending heat wave is coming in time for the democratic national convention, when a lot of people will be working ougt side and philadelphia's top cop is watching the sweltering forecast. >> it will be excessive next week with all the police officers involved standing on the lines as well as the protesters some of whom may overestimate their ability to walk in some of these demonstrations, a lot of things we are concerned about right now. philadelphia police are monitoring the security at the republican convention going on in cleveland as they get ready for a similar operation here in philadelphia. right now donald trump is getting ready to accept his party's nomination for president in cleveland. the final night at the convention last night had tense moments when ted cruz was pulled

cancellations and delays today while they position aircraft and crews. >> on the way to the airport or upon seeing the line -- >> they had a line from here all the way to around here. >> it was bad news no matter where they found out. this morning the southwest checkin area at philadelphia international airport was packed with passengers, after the airlines technical problems stretched into another day causing hundreds more cancellations and delays across the country. >> i had a connecting flight from st. louis, and well you are not going to get to tulsa from st. louis today. i may have to go to dallas and then take three flights. >> the problems started yesterday afternoon, southwest began having intermittent issues, after an outage. customers could not check in or board their planes. by late afternoon it appears to be corrected and then the system

ousting of temple's president. a settlement was reached to allow neil to resign -- the due if part to a financial aid deficit and the chancellor will act as president until they find a permanent replacement. two men lost their lives to gun violence in separate incidences this morning. one man was a 20-year-old man that was shot 14 timed on the 2100 block of north masher street in philadelphia. at 1:00. and at the same time another 22-year-old man was hit by a barrage of bullets in his car and was driving in winfield when he was killed. investigators did not name suspects in either case. it's possible that the zika virus is being carried by mosquitos for the first time in the united states.

administrative leave. it is possible that the zika virus has reached a dangerous new milestone in the united states. a woman in miami could be the first person infected by mosquito bite on the u.s. main land. she has the virus but not from traveling or sexual contact. now mosquitos are being tested to see if they are carrying the virus linked to birth defects. they are now giving zika prevention kits to pregnant women. and a man is now behind bar, the man intentionally sparked ten different fires that joined together. a man was there and took this video while he called 911. the firefighters rushed to the scene and stopped the flames from spreading into a full blown wild fire. still to come, this noon, he fought in vietnam and is in the midst of a battle here at hom.

sunshine and just a few clouds out there. if are you outside make sure you drink a lot of water because the heat is starting today and lasting for a while. 85 is the current temperature. the dew point is 61. not terribly humid and the pressure is holding steady and the winds are out of the south-southwest at 9 miles per hour. and the ocean temperature warms up significantly from yesterday. lets look at satellite 6 along with action radar nothing going on and nothing but sunshine, there are clouds out to the north and west. the front to the north and west, and nice and dry. how about the highs hit 90 in philadelphia, several degrees warmer than it was yesterday. 90 in reading and 89 in allentown and trenton and 80 in cape may cooler along the ocean that is nice, you have a sea breeze to help you out. hour by hour 2:00 p.m. 88 and bright sunshine and humidity is not bad.

4:00 p.m. we hit a high of 90. by 6:00 dipping down to 87 and it turns more humid tonight. 10:00, 82 degrees. and some suburbs drop to the upper 60s that will not happen tonight we hit 73 overnight in the city. but down the shore you have the nice sea breeze that is helping you out. don't forget the sunscreen the uv is high. and 85 and warmer in delaware and bethany beach and 75 along delaware. that is pretty good. the core of the heat is out to the west and we talk about the plains and how hot it is time-out -- hot out there. take a look at what to expect. friday we are tracking some of the hottest temperatures we have seen in years. at times the heat index will range from 100 to 105, and

record highs are in jeopardy, cumulative highs will affect your body. we are in the 90s and today we are border line, high of 90 and just starting to heat things up. tomorrow 95 is your high not only hot but more humid. it will feel like 100 tomorrow. we have just a chance for an isolated thunderstorm tomorrow and i think everyone stays dry. saturday hot and breezy and 98 and sunday hot and more humid 95 and monday we are talking record heat for the dnc 99 with a chance of a shower or thunderstorm. it will feel well over 100, and tuesday turning less humid, and keeping the heat even with wednesday, 90 degrees and partly sunny skies, we are looking at an extended period of heat, check on your pets and older friends. >> check on me.

hello again sara bloomquist is on assignment in cleveland. and here are the stories we are following on "action news" at 12:30. no arrests are made after two lives were lost and others were injured when shots ring out in philadelphia. prosecutors are trying to keep convicted murder, oscar pistorius, behind bars even longer, and just in time for the democratic convention you can go from one stop to the other in philadelphia to learn about our city's rich history. two men are dead and two others survived after being shot in separate shootings and police hope the public will come forward to help catch the gunman. annie mccormick talked to the police commissioner -- >> reporter: you can see the bullet hole here's in the vehicle at malvern. the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. one of two homicides that happened overnight and in both cases police say they need help with leads.
