look at central park this morning. how many people have come out for sia, the wigs are out. they were lining up all night long. this is the biggest crowd yet this summer for her concert, cannot wait for that. it's coming up. also a lot of excitement in cleveland for donald trump with that speech. a lot of reaction pouring in, the longest one i've ever seen, 75 minutes' long. he painted a dark picture of america. said only he can fix it and democrats led by hillary clinton and bernie sanders lash back on twitter. clinton's tweet, you are not our voice. >> and, of course, trump's entire family was there to support him. but all eyes were on the youngest trump, barron, the one child who did not make a speech at the convention. certainly got a lot of attention last night because, yeah, he was having a tough time. he's 10 years old sitting through the entire speech, yawning, definitely past his bedtime, i would say. abc's tom llamas was there for all of the excitement on the

floor and joins us from cleveland with the latest. good morning, tom. >> reporter: amy, good morning to you. also striking how much barron trump looks just like his father even at the age of 10. now, you could say donald trump pretty much covered everything last night and he almost did because it was the longest speech of his political career. the big question this morning, will voters remember what donald trump said last night instead of everything else that happened at his convention? the balloon drop, the confetti, the celebrating, all for donald trump. >> i humbly and gratefully accept your nomination for the presidency of the united states. >> reporter: under a giant trump digital banner, the republican nominee for president launching right into his law and order theme. >> the attacks on our police and the terrorism of our cities threaten our very way of life.

to make history last night as the first republican candidate to ever address the lgbtq community from the hall. he says at the becomes president he will do everything to protect the citizens in that community, george. >> o. tom, thanks. let's bring in matt dowd, donna brazile and jon karl. usually they take the opportunity to show a different side of themself, maybe reach out to voters who have doubts. donald trump doubled down on exactly who he was, the crowd loved it. how about those outside the hall? >> well, here's a guy that now wants to totally embrace the law and order part and came across as sort of batman, the crime fighting superhero but came across more as the dark knight in the course of that speech last night. i thought it's okay to go talk about all the problems in america because two-thirds of the country think we're off on the wrong track and more than half of the country thinks they've lost the american dream but i thought he should have moved to more uplifting language, something more optimistic because voters want you to understand their fears

and move to their hopes. >> donna brazile, democratic strategist, anything here worry. >> not really. this was a classic donald trump what i call rally. a rally where he tried to tell the faithful, look, i'm your strong man. i can make everything happen for you. in fact, donald trump last night said i can fix every problem basically in the whole world because he alone has the superpowers to do it. >> on day one. >> but the problem, george, is that donald trump had an opportunity, an easy pitch to the american people. he's the outsider, anti-establishment candidate. he could have said, america, i know how to get things done by bringing us together. he failed to do that. >> classic donald trump, also echoes of richard nexten. >> absolutely and he was -- his speech has been panned by a lot of what he would call the elites as being too dark, too negative, too pessimistic. but he's speaking like nixon in a direct echo to what he called last night the forgotten americans, the silent majority who feels left behind by the

games in rio de janeiro. the operation sweeping across ten brazilian states. [ speaking a foreign language ] brazilian officials saying the all brazilian group was isis inspired and mostly organized online but they were absolutely amateur with no preparation. officials saying the group wanted to start training in martial arts and learn how to shoot even trying to buy a gun online. something no organized cell would do. no specific targets were mentioned and investigators still searching for clues digging through the suspects' cell phones and computers. with the games just two weeks away, security on alert across the host city and an estimated 500,000 visitors are expected to travel to see these games. just last week, the brazilian government releasing an additional $24 million to beef up security. an estimated 80,000 soldiers and police will patrol the streets during the games.

brazilian officials believe those two suspects on the loose will be arrested soon and a judge overseeing the case saying suspects use arabic code names but none appear to have arab ancestry. amy. >> all right, thanks so much. now to outrage growing over that police shooting in miami. protests overnight after police shot an unarmed black man who was a behavioral therapist. authorities say there is more to the story and gio benitez is in north miami with the latest on the investigation. good morning, gio. >> reporter: amy, good morning to you. here at the police department the investigation will now focus on why that officer fired his gun. the officer and the union now saying he did not intend to shoot that therapist. >> please don't shoot, please. >> reporter: this morning, new details in the controversial police shooting of an unarmed black behavioral therapist lying down with his hands up. overnight several investigations have been launched trying to figure out exactly what happened to charles kinsey and why.

>> you have questions, the community has questions. we as a city and as a member of this police department and i personally have questions. >> reporter: protesters storming the north miami police department demanding answers. kinsey's lawyer says the 47-year-old had been helping a 23-year-old man with autism who ran away from the florida group home where he works on monday. in this video released by kinsey's attorney the young man is seen playing with a toy truck. kinsey tries to get him to lay down. >> sit down, rinaldo. >> reporter: police were responding to a 911 call reporting a man with a gun threatening suicide. listen as kinsey tries to talking to police. >> all he has is a toy truck in his hand. a toy truck. i am a behavior therapist at a group home. >> reporter: moments later an officer shoots kinsey but he survives. >> i'm saying, sir, why did you

george, you said it before. it's our biggest crowd yet this year. we cannot wait for sia but we'll have to wait just a bit more. >> yes, a lot to get to and we begin with that blockbuster shake-up at fox news. this morning roger ailes is out. stepping down amid allegations of sexual harassment. abc's rebecca jarvis is at fox news headquarters with all the latest. good morning, rebecca. >> reporter: good morning, amy. and that's right. just weeks after those allegations surfaced, this bombshell, roger ailes, the man who built fox news from the ground up, is out as the top boss. this morning, the man who built fox news will no longer be running it. the network's parent company announcing roger ailes has resigned from his role effective immediately. in his resignation letter obtained by abc news, ailes acknowledges the attention surrounding recent sexual harassment charges against him saying, i i will not allow my presence to become a

distraction. >> roger invented fox news and for 20 years has been fox news. there's nothing at the network that he has not single-handedly created, shepherded, developed, grown and produced. >> reporter: overnight some of the network's biggest stars supporting ailes. brit hume calling the resignation heartbreaking after the news broke, geraldo rivera writing writing, oh, the grotesque unfairness of life. ailes' bombshell exit comes just two weeks after former "f "fox & friends" anchor gretchen carlson filed a suit against him claiming ailes sabotaged her career because she refused his sexual advances and according to "new york" magazine she's not alone. the magazine reporting more than 10 women have come forward including one of the network's biggest names, megyn kelly, claims ailes has vigorously

denied. overnight carlson's lawyer telling abc news, gretchen's extraordinary courage has caused a seismic shift in the media world. we hope that all businesses now understand that women will no longer tolerate sexual harassment. but ailes won't be going far. writing in his resignation letter to rupert murdoch assuming the role of chairman and ceo of the channel, i look forward to continuing to work with you as an adviser. "new york" magazine reporting ailes' office has been moved to another building and that while they are still negotiating an exit package, he could walk away from the company with $60 million. and we've learned this morning that ailes will carry on in an advisory capacity advising chairman murdoch, the new person taking over fox news this morning, and that informal -- that will be an informal advisory capacity, ailes will not be advising fox news.

simply murdoch, his office has now been moved. >> all right, rebecca, thanks so much. our legal team dan abrams and sunny hostin joins news and, dan, if there is evidence that these allegations are true, how then does fox keep ailes on and give him according to one report $60 million? >> well, first of all i don't think they're keeping him on and think this notion of an adviser is pr spin. 'out. he's done. he's advising rupert murdoch in some sort of personal capacity. secondly, they would say the investigation is ongoing. we haven't drawn any conclusions yet what we did do, they say is we took action fast to get him away from employees and now, again, i don't believe it's going to end up with $60 million either. if the contract let's say says roughly $40 million they may make a business decision that says we'd rather not litigate this. remember roger ailes' position is i didn't harass anybody and if they say we're not going to pay you because you violated our contract they're going to end up in a lawsuit with roger ailes. >> notably fox in its statement didn't even mention the sexual

harassment charges or allegations. what do you make of that. >> that was very interesting. but i think these things are really negotiated out, right, so they couldn't do that. my guess. but the bottom line is they did take just decisive action and that's very important. when you have a sexual harassment claim and when it's substance yachted if you are the parent company you have have take action and that jem is take the bad actor out of the picture and that is what they've done. >> i think it's important to note that a lot of what we're hearing, i think, is spin, which is i think that roger ailes negotiated every single word that went into the public statement. >> absolutely. he and murdoch are friends. >> when we hear, for example, he'll be an adviser and $60 million, you know, let's be very careful to take all that have with a grain of salt -- >> he's not going to be around women at fox news. he's not going to be around women at 21st century fox. he's not going to be around women in that kind of powerful capacity because that's what sexual harassment is about.

it's about power. so you have to take the power away from the bad actor. >> there are reports that ten women have stepped forward. can any of those women sue and does that do anything to the anothers. >> statute of limitations in new york is three years. so it would have to be within the last three years. i think you're going to certainly see the gretchen carlson lawsuit continue. this doesn't change that lawsuit because she sued him and not fox. but this is now providing an enormous amount of ammunition for gretchen carlson, as well. >> no question. >> sunny, not only are you a lawyer, you also worked at fox news as a woman there. >> quite a long time ago but -- >> but you were there. what do you make of how fox has handled the situation so far. >> you know, i am impressed with how quickly they've acted. remember, this lawsuit was filed about two weeks ago and i think a lot of people are surprised that they acted so quickly. they're removing the person that really created fox news. that says a lot and says a lot

about i think the parent company. >> they could have said we'll wait until the investigation concluded. we have to wait for the recommendation. >> could that speak to the evidence that's involved. >> absolutely. there's no question it does, right. >> let's face it. i think a lot of people were pooh-poohing gretchen carlson's lawsuit. they were saying that it was because she was fired. it was retribution for that. now we know there must be more. they hired paul weiss, a very exclusive law firm, blue chip law firm. it's world renowned and when paul weiss comes in and says we have found something that leads to the housester of roger ailes. >> remember, she's still going to have to prove her individual case, i mean, just sort of looking at this in the macro will help her but she still will have to prove her case in court. >> let's remember, she only sued roger, that makes it very personal to her and i think it lends credibility. >> it wasn't about money. it was about justice for her? it lends credibility to her action. >> lara. >> thank you. coming up on our big board, nba bombshell. the league moving their all-star game out of north carolina to
