attack. here at home, things are getting steamy literally dangerous oppressive heat is now settling in across our region. spray parks and fountains were popular spots to cool off today. plenty of water and ice drinks were certainly in order and excessive heat warning has been issued for philadelphia starting tomorrow. meteorologist at dam josep adams in for cecily. >> we broke that century point in many locations. that excessive heat warning will continue saturday, sunday right into monday in that pink area of the i-95 corridor, a watch to the north and west and an advisory south and east. don't look at these particular categories. everybody will be extreme when you talk about the heat and humidity throughout the weekend early next week to the dangerous levels. in fact, our high today in

philadelphia was 94 degrees. 96 in allentown as well as reading, 92 in wilmington and zeal aisle city even at the shore did break 90 degrees. this was the highest heat index this afternoon. the peak of the day it was 102 in allentown, 100 in philadelphia, over the century point trenton dover even sea isle city beach haven hit 90 for their combination of air temperature and humidity. and there's no relief in sight. these are air temperatures. saturday, sunday, monday mid to upper 90's. monday that will be the peak of the heat and humidity when the dnc begins and a record high temperature and doesn't fall much as we get into tuesday and wednesday with highs at 95 degrees. so, some of these numbers that we're going to be feeling moving forward, we haven't seen from three to four years ago. that 99 was back in 2012 was the last time so it's been awhile we've had consecutive days if not temperatures this hot. we'll talk more about the numbers and let you know if there's any relief coming up

"action news" anchor brian taff is there right now and tonight brian the impressive stage for this event was unveiled today. looks beautiful. >> certainly does monica. you could call this the calm before the storm if this convention doesn't begin until next week but frankly the word calm doesn't quite capture the vibe here. this building is a s abuzz with last minute preps to make sure no detail goes unchecked and there's still quite a few of those to shore up. this morning as you mentioned they took the wraps off the centerpiece of next week's big show. >> ♪ the action cam was there

as convention planners officially unveiled the stage from which hillary clinton will accept her party's nomination next week and it's not just the democratic party that's getting featured prominently upon that stage but the city of philadelphia itself. >> there is no better city, no better backdrop to showcase our party's values than the birthplace of american democracy. >> lower is going to be made. we're going to nominate the first major woman candidate in the democratic party and she's going win in november and we're going to shatter that glass ceiling forever. >> clinton has a big job to do next week. she comes into this convention with sky high negatives and polls that show her neck and neck with donald trump so yes a big job. lots of attention will be focused on what's happening outside this being next week. let's go live to chad pradelli at fdr park. considering all the recent attacks around the world

including there one unfolding in germany tonight delegates and demonstrators should rightly expect heightened security. >> reporter: yeah, even before the attack in germany security was heightened. that's just the world in which we live. that's the reality. behind me you can see some of the law enforcement and security apparatus in place. there is the philadelphia fire department emergency medical services special response team truck. over here you have a first aid tent. that is air conditioned. there is some cots inside. i'm told by the city there will be misting stations as well as plenty of water for protestors as thousands are expected to show up here at fdr park also called protest park. law enforcement are putting on a full court press to secure the dnc. erecting fencing even thinking like an attacker. >> they're running red team analysis. they've been doing that for the last year. we're going to get some people to try and think in the mode of a disrupter or attacker what would an attacker want to do at the convention how do we

defend against that. >> reporter: former under secretary for homeland security and current security consultant jack dee marcio says 100 law enforcement agencies are involved. his concern is not protestors but, rather. >> the lone wolf, the individual there wants to make a statement who completely goes below the radar screen. >> reporter: police in philadelphia will not be in riot gear but normal attire. protests are planned throughout the city many here at fdr park. the rnc in cleveland had few problems with protestors. and city officials expect the same here in philadelphia. >> the first amendment is the first amendment 'cause it was the most important amendment for them because it came first and this is the city that celebrates that and we are going to keep everybody safe, everybody happy and we'll have a good time. >> reporter: police tell me they had some officers in cleveland for the rnc keeping an eye on security preparations there but as you are aware, philadelphia is

progressive darling senator elizabeth warren of massachusetts but the name generating the most buzz on the grapevine is virginia senator tim kaine the former governor who won't excite a lot of democrats but will do no harm to the top of the ticket. >> kaine offers hillary clinton an opportunity to increase her small lead in virginia. he is a fluent spanish speaker so that allows her to run with somebody who can speak in spanish to latino voters who may prove to be very important in this election. >> the thoughts of democrats we randomly found today in olde city. >> i prefer she have somebody great for a running mate. because somebody got to take down these republicans that are about to dismantle a lot of things that are going down. >> i don't think it will be a woman. and i think it might be a minority. that would be kind of interesting. that would be actually really kind of cool.

ago no vacancy sign this weekend. >> reporter: the logan will be all booked up next week. it's good news for them. the dnc coming to town means big profit for local businesses hotels will be a hot commodity which is a win-win for mostly everyone. tourists however are finding themselves priced out. >> it was supposed to be two days long here. we wanted to visit the area. but it was too much. >> reporter: it's not often you hear that a trip to the birthplace of america is simply too expensive. >> who came up with the idea. >> i think it's her. >> it was a bad idea. >> reporter: unfortunately for miriam and her boyfriend, they chose one of the pricest weeks for a last minute visit from montreal canada. >> we're not staying because of the price. >> reporter: thousands of delegates alternates and their guests will be staying at 57 philadelphia hotels for the democratic national

convention. all but a few center city hotels are either near capacity or sold out. >> each individual hotel will set their rates based on supply and demand just like any commodity. >> reporter: at night at a hotel say next tuesday will cost you at the very least 30 percent more than when there is no convention in town. >> that's way too much, way too much. >> if you compare philadelphia to other cities in the northeast such as boston, new york, washington, if the convention were to take place in any of those cities you would definitely see much higher rates than you see for philadelphia. >> reporter: if you're using the papal visit as a guide for what rates to expect don't bother. rates actually dipped because so many close to stay away altogether. lower demand, lower rates. >> there really isn't any comparison other than the fact that they're both blockbuster events. >> reporter: for this young spontaneous couple it means going back home early and back to the drawing board. >> we'll come back another time like with a plan.

>> community of kensington gathered together to remember a woman found dead last weekend. the body of 35-year-old ricky morgan was found naked covered in blood along the 2400 block of jasper street. she appeared to have had blunt force done to her face and torso. community members who knew her are asking for peace. gas will cost 23 cents more a gallon in new jersey if a deal reached by democratic lawmakers goes into effect. leaders in the state senate and assembly say they have agreed on a compromise to fund the state transportation projects. while the gas tax will go up, the plan includes some other

feeling like 106 on philadelphia for the first day of the dnc here, 105 in washington, 115 in richmond. so, many folks along the eastern half of the country, the eastern seaboard, the midatlantic will be baking and blistering here for many days to come. the heat index right now 97 in trenton and philadelphia, many locations broke over 100 this afternoon. 97 in dover. so the excessive heat started at a and itoday and it will cone into almost the middle part of next week. satellite and radar high clouds passing through the region right now. again a broken line offer to the north of with a few downpours. tonight that tropical feeling out there very warm, isolated storm far northern areas. 70 in allentown, 77 philadelphia. the same for cape may and dover at 76 degrees. as you look at the next three days, this is just a sample of what we're going to endure into next week. 102 tomorrow with a high of

98. dry air comes in on sunday and that will lower the humidity which means the heat index won't go as high but it is still very uncomfortable and monday it comes back with a vengeance, record high of 99 soaring that heat index to 106. if you think about escaping to the shore to break your way away from the heat or humidity, not the case tomorrow. 94, scorching on the sand with a land breeze on sunday a little better 86 degrees sunny and warm with the ocean of 70 and up in the poconos it's terribly humid up there tomorrow, 88 degrees but at least you're not in the 90's and then 84 degrees on sunday, sunshine with just a few clouds. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast will show not much in the way of a break here once you get past the weekend into early next week with that record heat on monday. monday afternoon there could be strong if not severe storms coming from the north and west with a front and that will still not really bring much in the way of relief here tuesday and wednesday. still 95 with the heat index
