during the dnc, room rates will be 30% higher than on a normal day. that's bad news for tourists being priced out. >> if you compare philadelphia to other cities in the northeast such as boston, new york, washington, if the convention were to takes place in any of those cities you would see higher rates than you're seeing for philadelphia. >> we're told hotels are getting a few last minute cancellations, so you might get slightly cheaper rates if you jump on the openings. republican presidential nominee, will campaign during the pennsylvania dnc holding a town hall in scranton on wednesday. some polls show trump is going to win pennsylvania. trump's visit comes on the day president obama and joe biden speak at the dnc.

we turn to the latest on the deadly attack in munich, germany. police trying to figure out why an 18-year-old germany-iranian man opened fire at a crowded shopping mall and mcdonald's. he killed 9 people and injured 16 others before taking his own life. >> this telephone video capturing the moments as shots were fired, you can see at least one gunman aiming right at innocent bystanders. a deadly shooting at a place ingrained in the hearts of germans and people all over the world. police say a person opened fire at olympia mall, 89 same site of the munich olympic massacre. it was there that 11 israeli athletes were taken hostage and killed by the terror group known as black november. people were seen fleeing the

scene. >> at least we know at this point it's a mall which unfortunately is a very easy target. >> reporter: this is the second attack in germany in less than a week. on monday, a migrant teen attacked passengers on the train, 180 miles per hour south of munich. >> germany is one of our closest allies, we will pledge all the support they may not in dealing with the circumstances. >> reporter: police is urging people to avoid public places and remain vigilant. >> you have to get out of the way of what's about to come down the road. ment key you run and hide, if you have to you fight. >> reporter: the state department through twitter is urging americans to be aware of their surrounding and maintain a high level of vigilance in order to be safe and secure. >> new information to tell you about this morning, one man is dead after a shooting in philadelphia's port richmond

section. shots were fired before 10:30 p.m. on the 3500 block of frankford avenue. the victim was rushed to the hospital where he died. so far no arrests have been made and there is no word about a motive. an accused coffee thief surrounded to police in chester county. police say 48-year-old rebecca julian turned herself in after seeing surveillance video of herself on "action news." she was accused of stealing one bag of coffee from one wawa and returned it to another one for cash. it is believe she hit the tri-state area and racked up $3,000. she confessed to the crime. who men face charges in a number of thefts and the delaware state campus. police say they stole cell phones from three people at the carpenter sports building on north college avenue last week. as police investigated they

found more victims in the area both suspects are free on bail. up students from penn state will have to dig deeper into their pockets to pay for the tuition at the university's main campus. resident students are expected to see an increase 2.9%. out of state students will see 3.17% after a tuition freeze for in-state students last year. the increase is among the lowest in 50 years. much more to come, including the final dance for a wisconsin teenager. her classmates threw her a special prom as she battles a terminal illness. airline passengers are given a chance to haven't about everything from leg room to customer service.

meteorologist chris sowers is tracking the forecast helping you plan your weekend, it's going to be hot, hot, hot. >> reporter: news check this is not phoenix, okay, i know what's going on. let's get you outside and show you what's going on, looking live from our temple university cameras. we have high, thin clouds upstairs, that's about it. we could have a stray shower or thunderstorm that develops this afternoon as a weak cold front slides in from the north. most of us stay dry, if you pick up the storm it won't last that long, it's just enough to cool you down from this. that's the forecasted high today, 98 degrees, normally we should be around 87. starting out at 777 degrees. this is record-challenging heat here through monday. we're forecasting 98 today. feeling like 102 with the humidity. it pulls back on sunday, the 96 may feel all right, because the humidity is not that bad.

look what happens monday forecasting a high of 98 with a peak index of 106. the latest forecast information has us up to 109. monday will be the worst of it. things will slowly get better by the middle of next week. mid 70s for everybody, and the humidity leaves are extremely high this morning. if you're doing anything outdoors, maybe you want to go for the run, you want to cut the grass, do it early in the day or late in the evening as the sun is beginning to set here, because that's when we're seeing the extreme heat and humidity during the peak of the day, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. you want to avoid strenuous activities within that time frame. today it's blazing up and down the entire eastern seaboard. again, this cold front slides into the virginias tomorrow, it pulls the heat back, but it's very hot tomorrow in the mid 90s. sun and clouds this afternoon, not a bad day, one or two areas, though with the front sliding

everyone, 24:00 saturday morning, if you're heading to the jersey shore, no relief for you. it's a land breeze it will limit the cooling effect from the ocean this afternoon. there it is, straight out of the west today anywhere from ten to 15 miles per hour. these numbers in the mid to upper 70s will warm up later this afternoon. take a look at the highs on the sand. atlantic city, 94 degrees, beach haven, 92. ocean city, 93. mostly sunny skies, there's the west wind, cape may topping out at 90, delaware beaches 95 rehoboth beach and bethany beach.

witnesses heard the commotion and called 911. >> i was downs in my home over there, in my basement, i heard a bang and i heard somebody say oh, my god. i went out and ran as fast as i can, i saw a lady on the floor. >> the 38-year-old woman died at the hospital. her husband and 2-year-old son are being treated for head injuries. police arrested the driver a few blocks away from the scene. new this morning, a water main break flooded streets in the spring garden section of philadelphia. crews were called out to spring garden and pennsylvania avenue before 1:00 a.m. this morning. we're told an 8-inch main broke, crews were able to shut off the water, they will be out there this morning to make repairs. there's no word on what caused the main to break. a 4-year-old girl in northeast pennsylvania has died after being left in a hot car for hours. the woman in lie combing county

who cares for the child left the girl in the vehicle and went to work. by the time the woman came back in the afternoon, the girl had passed out in the back seat. emergency crews try to revive the child, but she eventually died. an autopsy is scheduled for today. the temperatures in williamsport reached 97 degrees yesterday. it is now 6:37 we'll follow breaking news for you, police in munich germany say there's no indication that the lone teenage attacker had a link to isis. an intense exchange of gunfire which appears to be the munich shooter turned up on social media yesterday. he killed himself after shooting and killing nine people and injuring several more outside a crowded shopping mall. the victims included children and other young people. investigators say they still have no idea what motivated that attack. details are being revealed

from the personnel file of the officers who shot an unarmed therapist in florida. jonathan alita had complaints on his file which were cleared by internal affairs. at one point he was named police officer of the month. earlier this week he shot a behavioral therapist as the man tried to coax an autistic patient to come back to his group home. he thought he was in danger and aiming for the patient. the man survived the shooting. applications to join the dallas, texas police department are up, 344%. in the days after the ambush that killed five police officers. the statement from the department said 467 applications were received in the 12 days after the shootings. chief david brown under those who protested the shootings to apply. >> drivers in new jersey could be paying more to fill up.

leaders in the state senate and assembly say they have agreed on a compromise to fund state transportation projects, this includes a 23 cent boost in the state's gas tax, but it contains tax breaks, for veterans and retirees and the working poor. it eliminates the estate tax. chris christie is criticizing the proposal and will not make a decision until he gets more specifics. an parent airline strike at -- an apparent airline strike at philadelphia international airport has been diverted. a statement thanked the mayor and the governor for convening a meeting for both sides. for three years, worker have been fighting for $15 an hour. there's much more to come on "action news" saturday morning.

he is off swimming, the sea turtle there, florida researchers released from the hospital yesterday after he was caught in fishing gear. he will be among the 14 turtles taking part in the tour deturtles, it follows the race migration of several different sea turtles. they have trackers on their back to watch their every move. >> reporter: it will take a while. they move pretty good in the water. >> reporter: that water looks good. especially down the shore, we have upwelling we have ocean temperatures in the 60s. it may be 90 on the sand. the water will feel cool.

>> reporter: everybody, i can't say the exception of the jersey shore, everybody is baking because of the land breeze. you're topping out in the mid to low 90s from cape may to sandy hook. it will be an owes pressively humid and hot day -- pressively humid and hot day. tomorrow we're forecasting 96, the record is 98. monday we're forecasting 98. the record is 96. i've seen modeling information coming in showing 99 or 100 now for monday, depending on cloud cover, that will determine how hot it gets monday after. 77 degrees in philadelphia. dewpoint, 68. pressure reading is holding stealed. there's the west wind that's the land breeze down the shore, 8 miles per hour. ocean temperature, down to 61 off the coast of atlantic city. you get closer to cape may it's 69 or 70. for the delaware beaches it's in the low 70s. colder the farther north you go.

70s for everybody else. philadelphia, 77. millville, 73. and cape may, 78. it wouldn't be that bad if these numbers were lower. this is the way we measure the amount of moisture in the air. dewpoints when they get into the mid 60s or higher it's humid. you start talking 70 plus it's awful out there. millville, 70. cape may, 75. dover, 76 and mid 60s for everybody else. again, very oppressive out there this morning. we have a cold front that's in the process of pushing through, we'll call it a humidity buster for later this afternoon. it will drop the humidity levels down. it will feel better by tomorrow afternoon. this cold front for the most part will come through dry, but one or two areas after 4:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. could see a spotty shower or thunderstorm. i think the model is overdone with that. one or two areas south of the pennsylvania turnpike could see a spotty shower or storm.

heat index. 104 in philadelphia. atlantic city at the airport, it will feel like 101 degrees later this afternoon. dangerous heat, a stray thunderstorm is possible. we're forecasting a high of 98 degrees. that will be the hottest temperatures we've seen in four years in the city of brotherly love. you can see the heat index values peaking around lunchtime. between lunchtime and 4:00 p.m. we're up to 100 degrees. by 8:00 p.m. we're talking about feels-like temperatures in the low to mid 90s. a couple of tips for you here, check on the seniors and check on your pets they can't handle the heat as we can't either. you start talking about sending your pelt outside for several hours, they can feel that. bring them indoors, as well stay hydrated, bring plenty of fluid, gator aid or power aid, take frequent breaks and ware light

need and it supports the dnc. >> go hillary, go dnc. >> reporter: the builders challenge happens to coincide with the democratic national convention, but the carpenter's union is using as an opportunity to volunteer and give the dnc support. they will brave the heat wearing their dnc shirts. habitat hue -- humanity is thankful for the men. >> reporter: the carpenters are saving the habitat for humanity ten thousand dollars a house. recipients must work 350 hours for the nonprofit to quaff for a zero% mortgage. saturday they will be back out here with a slew of volunteers to complete the builder's challenge.
