of the members dies on on the job. >> first, dangerous heat continues to stifle the tri-state area. temperatures could hit the mid 90s today, right, chris? >> reporter: we're getting close to that now. the number in philadelphia, 90 degrees, the big difference this afternoon you can finally breathe. the humidity dropped off with the cold front that swept through yesterday evening. even though it's 90 degrees, it fellows better than yesterday at this time. trenton, 88, wilmington, 88. reading, 90 degrees. millville, 89 and dover, 86. when you factor in the humidity, trenton, 88. philadelphia, 90. wilmington, 88. the heat index be in those select cities, 89, 90, 89. there's not much between the humidity and the air

without air-conditioning because of storms that knocked out power. crews are working to restore power to the last households without electric activity. happening today, the medical examiner is conducting an autopsy on the firefighter who died while on duty yesterday. trish hartman joins us with more on the death of gabriel lee, trish, what are we learning about this? >> reporter: there's many the questions surrounding gabriel lee's death. an autopsy is expected after he was found unresponsive in the north philadelphia firehouse. in the tweet, a great firefighter who at gave his all and great friend who always had his back, #dead -- dedication and service. black bunting is draped across the front of the building where lee was found yesterday evening. sources tell "action news" he

was in his 40s and found in the gym in the basement during his shift after he responded to a fire earlier in the day. he was pronounced dead at temple university hospital. dozens of police and firefighters gathered outside in solidarity and stood at attention as lee's body was placed into a ambulance. officers of the are highway patrol escorted his body to the medical examiner's office. fire commissioner will be speaking at the fire administration building at 12:30, we hope to learn more information about this case. in the meantime, officials are saying that the investigation is on going, live in spring garden, trish hartman channel 6 "action news." >> thank you so much for the update. it is almost here, we are hours away from the democratic national convention beginning right here in philadelphia. >> there's a live look at the stage from our sky6 live hd camera. the wells fargo center is set for the dozens celebrities and

hillary clinton and tim kaine made their formal debut. kaine returned home to virginia to chants of support. the former governor is attending church with his family today. the two campaigned in florida yesterday with kaine speaking to the crowd in spanish. the republican nominee donald trump calls the democratic ticket the quote ultimate insiders. a leak of democratic national committee e-mails could pose a problem for hillary clinton having a unified convention. bernie sanders told george stephanopoulos that debbie wasserman schultz should resign because of the e-mails. the leaked e-mails suggest that during the primaries, the dnc looked at ways to undercut the sander campaign. >> i told you long time ago that, that the dnc was not

running a fair operation, that they were supporting secretary clinton, so what i suggested to be true 6 months ago turns out in fact to be true, i'm not shocked, but i'm disappointed. for a variety of reasons, debbie wasserman schultz should not be chair of the dnc. i think these e-mails reiterate that reason why she should not be chair. >> also on this week, hillary clinton's campaign manager would not say if debbie wasserman schultz would deliver prime time speech at the convention. >> efforts to change one key complaint of party members, the system of super delegates have largely failed. the party rules committee delivered a pelt technician of 600,000 -- a petition of 600,000 signatures, it was defeated. bc.d

>> outside we go to chris sowers, chris you said it does not feel that bad. >> reporter: if it would stay this way, i don't think too many people would be complaining. it's july. >> we want to go now to an update from city officials they are at the city emergency management talking about an update on security plans for the dnc. >> the passing of gabriel lee one of our firefighters last night, 20-plus year veteran for the fire department, it was a sad evening and sad time for his family. keep him in your prayers and our firefighters and police officers over the course of the next few days and always. we want to recognize that. thank you for coming we're excited for the week ahead we think it will be a great opportunity to show the world once again how well philadelphia hosts big events like this. i know many of you are

interested in the technical aspects of our preparation of we have richard ross and adam teal and samantha philips here to answer your questions, these folks have done an incredible job over the last year of getting our city ready for the dnc. so before everything officially kicks off we wanted to give you an opportunity to speak with them. we're going to to get to are your questions quickly. first, a huge thank you to our city employees as well as our local and federal partners our officers and firefighters and sanitation workers people working in the room for the next few days will be working long, hard shifts to keep the city safe and operating. i cannot thank everybody enough for all the sacrifices they are making. the second is about the extreme heat and weather we are

expecting over the neck several days. we are expecting heat and humidity in the triple digits. excessive heat causes dangerous health conditions due to prolonged hot temperatures coupled with high humidity. there's little relief at night due to higher than normal overnight temperatures. the city had four heat-related deaths each year. drink water frequently check on your neighbors and limit time outside if possible. if you see people who are homeless and suffering from the heat call (215)232-1984. seniors in distress or residents concerned about a senior should call the philadelphia corporation for aging heat line (215)765-9040. in the event of a thunderstorm take shelter. if you're deploma straight when

a -- deploma straight when a thunderstorm warning curse you will be taken to a sheltered area. for the safety of demonstrators during the dnc two medics tents and two misting tents and bottled water will be available 24/7 at fdr park. medics will be assigned to marchs and demonstrators are encouraged to request a permit to insure there's adequate medical staff on hand. along broad street there will be fire hydrants sprinkleer caps for free. the city is not permitting camping during the dnc. demonstrators are urged not to camp because of the extreme heat and expected thunderstorms. with that we'll take your questions. anybody?

>> officers are at risk when they do their job everyday. we recognize that, in 2000 we had the rnc, there were a number of marchs there, the weather is similar, maybe a little hotter than it was then. our officers are prepared and trained and keeping them fed and hydrated. we would be in good shape. i don't know that's speculation, i don't have an idea. i know that our officers are out there in their equipment and protective vest it's hot to them. i couldn't tell whether it has an effect one way or the other. from cleerchgd from the rnc. >> seems like with the exception of the arrests on a particular day everything went smooth. we had our police officers there, commanders there viewing what was going on. commissioner do you have anything to add? >> i want to cleveland about 3 or 4 weeks ago for the express purpose of dialoguing with them for their rnc and our dnc. we were trying to collaborate and get as much information always possible. this was put on the police research forum chuck wexler. we had officers on the ground in cleveland that got vital information to help us in making

sure we were doing the right thing and we got a comprehensive plan and we're confident that well keep the visiting here and working here safe. we have a responsibility to protect the first amendment rights of everybody concerned, so not so much anybody in particular, just monitoring the entire event to keep everyone safe is the question before, including the workers not just the police officers you have, other city workers that are doing what will ultimately be a fabulous job, we don't doubt that, it's going to be tough with the heat. there's no denying that.

[inaudible] well clearly we are concerned about our police officers it's a very dangerous job. you never know what they are going to be confronted with, in light of what happened in the last couple of weeks clearly we would be remiss if we didn't take appropriate measures, so our overall plans have not changed, but we have taken additional security measures to insure the safety of the protesters and police as well as the public in general. remember in dallas, there were a couple of people who were not demonstrators that were hit with gunfire, we're taking all that into account. yeah, i guess it can, we're hopeful that a lot of people will respect this process, this venue, we have done a significant amount of planning and conversations with many of the protesters in the way of managing everyone's expectations

theirs and ours, we're confident that things will go well. we're planning obviously for impromptu protests as we imagine at that it will happen. we've been dealing with them for the better part of 18 months as big cities have. it will come as no surprise to us. you move forward in time. you have to be progressive you learn from some of the things you did before and in many cases for us, we'll be a lot more patient and tolerant with many of the protesters and demonstrators. some of the planning didn't change, but the world change, obviously after 9/11 everything changed in terms of large-scale events. whether it be our made in america, welcome america, or the papal visit that we had here, obviously we've had a number of large-scale efforts in

philadelphia. tremendous coordination goes into that it's not just police and fire, it's many other city agencies along with folks across the room. state police and national guard, the list goes on and on and on. we're protecting the city both an land, air and the waterways, as you may have seen. >> you've been listening to a noose conference with city officials that's police commissioner richard ross. he is confident that the city will keep the people visiting and working here for the dnc safe. he said they have a responsibility to protect everyone's first amendment rights and they will be contacting the protesters and making sure they are doing everything right and keeping them safe. they say their overall plans have not changed even with all the violence against police officers these days they have taken extra measures to make sure that the police officers and the public continue to be safe. >> that's the ultimate goal to keep everyone safe. for more information go to 6abc.com. the heat a big factor.

examiner is trying to -- medical and are is trying to figure out why a firefighter died on the job. firefighters formed an honor guard as gabriel lee's body was taken to the medical examiner's office in university city. the firefighter was found unconscious in the firehouse on west cambria street. he was pronounced at temple uniformity hospital. lee responded to a fire earlier yesterday and returned last night for the night shift. >> updid a lot of on the accuweather forecast. -- update on the accuweather forecast. dnc starts monday thousands will be here and they will be greeted by the heat. >> reporter: with the heat and humidity it will feel like 107 degrees. this will be the hottest weather

we've seen in nearly four years, maybe more than four years, actually. we're record watching over the next 48 hours. forecasting a high of 96 decreases today that should fall short of the record high 98. 99 is the forecasted high for tomorrow. the record is 96. we should have no problem breaking tomorrow's record. wait until you see what happens when we factor in the humidity. uv index today on a scale of 1 to 11 it's a ten. burn time less than 15 minutes. with all the sunshine you have to apply the sunscreen or you run the risk of getting a good burn especially between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. if you're down the shore glob the sunscreen on. temperatures in the upper 80s and low 90s. the human has dropped off except for dover and cape may. everybody else is enjoying a little break.
