about the young victims of a nightclub shooting in fort meyers, florida,. the big story on "action news" this noon is the count to the democratic national convention. rick williams continues our live team coverage. >> reporter: we are less than four hours away from the opening gavel at 4:00 p.m. the stage is set and last minute work underway for the big show. scandal is overshadowing the party. dnc chair is out over leaked e-mails. the fbi is investigating how the e-mails were leaked. meanwhile, jilted bernie sanders supporters and other political protesters have taken to the streets already they are facing excessive heat a big concern for outdoor demonstrators and everyone else across the entire region. let's begin with a check on the

sweltering accuweather forecast an david murphy. >> reporter: well, rick conventioneers and he was will have to -- and everyone else will have to take the heat seriously. in the central area the heat index values could make it feel like 105 this afternoon and in the advisory areas about 100. in fact some areas even in the advisory area are going higher than that. 88 in philadelphia. 89 in wilmington, 92 in allentown. 93 down the shore and 91 in dover. when you factor in the heat, plus the humidity it feels like it's 98 in the city currently and 102 not that far down the pike in wilmington. 100 degrees on the heat index chart in millville. feels like 107 in dover, delaware. keep in mind we have several hours of building heat. the numbers will be going up. we expect to be over 100 degrees in philadelphia later on.

in terms of temperatures looks like a record high. 98 is the high, old record 96. tonight muggy, 79 degrees the low. from you're heading out and about keep the heat in mind, hydrate, a lot of cool water the best thing. if you're outside and have to be you have to take breaks in the shade. don't forget about our senior citizens and the pets. seniors can have problems in the high heat and humidity, they don't regulate, as well. they don't have the air-conditioning set up high enough or not running the fans. 97 at 2:00 p.m. you get a dip at the pool and feel better. 9:00 p.m. there's a chance of thunderstorms if they come they will knock the temperatures down and knock you out of the pool. get out of the pool and off the beach if you hear thunder. speaking of which we have thunderstorms watches and warnings heading into areas of northeastern pennsylvania. but we're keeping our eyes on this area where we are starting

to see the development of the showers and possible storms as those head toward the east we could be in for strong thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. the first issue is the heat, the second the strong thunderstorms. we'll be back with the full accuweather forecast in a moment. it got a little noisy at the arena. philadelphia's boys and men are doing a sound check a number of groups performing on the stage behind me. the despite the dangerously hot weather conditions political protesters are taking their voices outside today. jennette reyes joins me outside city hall with the various protesters around philadelphia. >> reporter: there's a demonstration going on at city hall. this is a bernie sanders rally and this is just one of many.

the issues vary from bernie sanders to immigration issues, but there is one thing the protesters have in common it has nothing to do with politics. >> i'm a bernie sanders supporter, most of the people probably are going to be bernie sanders supporters we are disgruntled about the new e-mails that were released through wikileaks. >> reporter: demonstrators woke up to cooler temperatures in the upper 7 he -- 70s. they are waiting to start their protests. >> we brought food that will keep us alive and jugs of water and sharing and buying water we're all here for the same calls. >> reporter: today's index will peak at a record breaking 105 degrees. >> it's summertime, like the end of july we expected this. >> reporter: protesters shared their antitrump message to the beat of a makeshift drum while

trying to beat the oppressive temperatures. >> we need somebody to basically stop making promise. we can't wait any longer. we're demanding -- >> reporter: they walked more than a mile and a half to city hall. we have a bunch of water over here and we have water that will be set up at the halfway point. >> hot and sweat, many say it's all in a day's work to get their message out. >> yes i'm sweating. it's all good. >> reporter: and the fountains here at city hall look tempting you don't have to be a kid to jump in. we know that the demonstrators are taking the heat seriously. many who rallied assembled their own team of medics making sure sure nobody has heat related

issues. drink water and take it easy, as well. >> quite a spectacle that's for sure. several delegates from florida showed no mercy this morning toward debbie wasserman schultz who has resign her position amid an e-mail scandal as we mentioned. annie mccormick joins us live in center city with more on the drama during this morning's convention. >> reporter: rick, this is the first time we heard from debbie wasserman schultz since the e-mail scandal where she was ousted as chair of the democratic national convention. in that e-mail scandal wikileaks released e-mails showing she favored hillary clinton all along and never gave bernie sanders a chance. as she entered the florida delegation breakfast she was greeted by mixed voice its ther. take a listen.

and you can here them chanting debby debby, she blows kisses to her supporters, but the supporters chants turned to boos to a number of bernie sanders supporters in the crowd. she addressed the mass shooting that left two dead and dozens injured in florida. after a phone call from hillary clinton and president obama wasserman schultz admitted she would resign after the convention. she did not offer any apologies and never e mentioned the scandal. the closest she came to referencing the scandal came when she said -- >> i appreciate there's a little bit of interest from the

press, but that shows you, that florida is the most significant battle ground state that will make sure that hillary clinton is elected president of the >> reporter: this kind of humiliation and the way they treated her, let her speak, she did what they want the her to do is step down. >> i think it's hard to respect debbie wasserman schultz when she does not respect the electoral process. >> reporter: and wasserman schultz announces she will be acting as a surrogate for hillary clinton and working everyday for her re-election, as well. she will open and close the democratic national convention. bernie sanders supporters said they will plan to voice their

questioned in connection with a deadly shooting at penns landing, police believe a fight at the cavanaugh's river deck spilled on to a cal callowhill street. the man died at the scene. detectives detained three men after a brief chase on foot. they were taken to the homicide division as the investigation continues. new information about a shooting at a club in fort meyers florida. the shooting erupted in the

parking lot as parents arrived to pick up their teens from the swimsuit theme add party. a 14-year-old and 18-year-old were killed. they suspects were under arrest. the police said the shootings was an act of terrorism. armed guards were on duty at the club when the shooting began. >> officers arrived on scene found multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. >> state records show the club had alcohol lbs -- license revoked last month due to a prior incident. a wildfire raging near los angeles threatens thousands of homes. the flames have charred 51 square miles. the blaze is 10% contained. hot weather and brush are fueling the fire. it has torched 20 structures. back here, the eagles

>> david with a check of the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast we're heading for a record today. >> reporter: looks like we are, 98 is the forecast high. the old record 896. we have an issue with heat and humidity, but also the potential for thunderstorms. take a look at storm tracker 6 live double scan well off to the north of the poconos there's something out there. well to the west of harrisburg and north of harrisburg you can see showers and thunderstorms just starting to pop. we'll be on the look out for that stuff moving closer to our home base later on in the afternoon. as we take a look outside, we have sky6 live hd, center city it is hazy, hot and humid out there. temperatures right now in philadelphia zoomed all the way to 88 degrees and how about that dewpoint, 75 that is very oppressive humidity and winds out of the west at 7 miles per hour. really out of the southwest most of the time. this is the big number, the heat index, this is the combination of temperatures and high

humidity and how it feels out there, again it feels like 98 in philadelphia. 100 in millville. 102 in wilmington, 107 in dover, delaware. that 98 is where the heat index will stop. we'll be around 105 over the next several hours. future tracker 6 picking up the other issue that's thunderstorms. by 3:00 p.m. this will be in the northern and western suburbs. by 35:30 p.m. it will be in philadelphia and jumps the gun and gets in and around the city by 5:00 p.m. pgh by 8:00 p.m. we're inundated it's possible these will get out of the way sooner, when they do come they could produce strong gusty winds and hail. there's a slight risk from the storm center across region any storm that forms in the region isolated storms but could calls wind damage, lightning strong winds and hail all possible with
