clinton's lifetime of fighting for children and families. good evening it's tuesday night and the big story is the history making moment for hillary clinton, just a couple of hours away now. we go live to rick williams at the convention studio at the wells fargo center. >> that is right the excitement is building here for hillary clinton to officially win the nomination tonight. which of course would be historic. we expect the nomination role call to begin sometime in the next half hour and tonight the democrats will bask in the big moment for clinton before they begin a bruising general election fight against donald trump. hillary clinton is also off the campaign trail, but her running mate tim kaine talks to people as he had breakfast with people in richmond, virginia. he is slowly but surely making his way here to join hillary

clinton and accept the nomination. he is expected to take the dnc tomorrow night ahead of president barack obama. meantime, lets take a live look at the floor of the convention, they have done the call to order, the pledge of allegiance and the national anthem and the role call is expected to begin in a few moments now. right now there is a debating process going on for each candidate, hillary and bernie. we can expect it to get boisterous. joining us live on the floor of the convention is "action news" reporter, dann cuellar, with more of today's events at the dnc. >> reporter: good afternoon rick, many bernie sanders supporters are resigned to the fact that hillary clinton will secure the nomination tonight but they want it known here on the floor just how widespread his support is and they will make a lot of noise tonight and there are some in key states like florida and pennsylvania wanting to make the point, but will they ever unite?

here is what we hear from both clinton and sanders tonight. >> i will vote for senator sanders on the first role call vote. >> i am not concerned. because i think they know that the choice is between hillary clinton or donald trump. so the choice is between good or evil. >> he is the best qualified candidate and truly represents the values of the democratic party. i don't believe hillary clinton and what she says. >> i was a delegate for hillary eight years ago and i never got to cast my vote for her, so today is my day. >> now, it is expected by the time they call for the votes insect -- secretary delicious's

home state, she should have enough but will the sanders supporters jump on the band wagon, stay tuned for that. i'm dann cuellar, channel 6 "action news." back to you rick. >> all right thank you. excitement is building and another night means more big names coming to the stage, we'll see actress meryl streep and hear a performance by alicia keys, the star power is continuing here at the dnc. the main speaker tonight is former president, bill clinton, he will take the stage for a history making appearance of his own. former presidents often vouch for their successor but never before has the candidate been a spouse. and some protesters are hitting the streets again and one group is marching from north philadelphia to city hall. walter perez joins us live from

broad street in philadelphia with that story. >> reporter: rick, actually there are several rallies and protests across the city once between today. we want to show you the video of what are you talking about moving down broad street. this is the black live matters march making its way down north broad as we speak. the march is moving slowly so be aware of that if you plan on moving through the area soon. they will meet up with another group rallying at city hall entitled shut down the dnc. they want to abolish superdelegates and the dnc. we'll have a full report on this starting on "action news" at 11:00. walter perez, channel 6 "action news." >> walter thank you. dozens gathered in logan square today to speak out against gun violence and hear from former

congresswoman, gabrielle giffords a victim of gun violence in 2011, they hope to send a message that gun control has to be a priority in this election. trish hartman has the story tonight. >> the loudest cheers of the morning were for gabrielle giffords. >> i saw great courage when my life was on the line. now is the time to come together and be responsible, democrats, republicans, everyone. >> the former arizona congresswoman survived an assassination attempt in 2011 and pumped up the crowd as she called for stricter gun laws. >> gabrielle giffords is a friend and ally and we hope that everyone takes notice of this situation because it's crossing everyone's doorstep. >> i am a teacher and i think of all the students -- it doesn't make any exception. >> on day two of the dnc

giffords was joined by the rally, some endorsing hillary clinton, all of them calling for change. local members of the group mothers in charge held photos of their children lost to gun violence. >> he came up to visit his aunt and as he was going into the house he was shot in the back, shot six times, last bullet to the head. >> some spoke on stage, including the mother of slain philadelphia police officer, moses walker jr. >> we need legislators that will listen to what is going on. >> we spoke with bernie sanders and hillary clinton supporters who hope that the party will unify behind clinton as the convention goes on and hopes tonight's speakers will have an impact on the fight for gun control. trish hartman, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you trish. this reminder, any time you want to know the latest what is happening inside be outside of the convention, turn to "action news" social media accounts on

index of 109. compared to yesterday it doesn't feel that bad. the current heat index in philadelphia 94 degrees, most of our viewing area heat indexes below 100 and the exception is dover where it's 100 degree but yesterday the heat index in dover was up to 114. the reason the cold front that brought us violent thunderstorms last night. satellite 6 along with action radar showing us we are getting high thin clouds from the front and stalled to the south and this is bringing united states the winds out of the northwest. it feels a lot better than yesterday. the heat wave is not over yet, two more days of temperatures in the 90s and a brief dip in the humidity and gets more humid and unsettled late in the week coming up in the full accuweather forecast. >> thank you cecily. time for a check of the "action news" traffic report tuesday night.

lets go live to matt pellman in the traffic center. >> i fear we may have stuck delegates here in old city on the bus. >> the ramp from market street eastbound the bus is stuck and normally buses won't be allowed to get on this chunk of 95 that makes me think it may be a bus carrying delegates to the wells fargo center. any vehicle over 5 tons cannot get on that part of i-95. and the check points are set up with delays into each of the check points this afternoon. here comes the black lives malleters protesters marching down broad street at the vine street expressway it's a big crowd and police have north broad and local vine blocked off at hahnemann hospital and closed the ramps from the vine street expressway to broad because of the protesters moving down along north broad toward city hall as we watch live from sky 6 hd, if you can stay on the expressway, it's busy but a much better bet

in tonight's health check, general mills is expanding their recall of flour for an e. coli brought break. they are recalling gold medal and singular kitchen flour after new illnesses were reported. they say a plan in kansas city is the probable source. those that got sick likely ate or handled uncooked dough or batter. on this day that the democrats are nominating a woman for president, this challenge seemed fitting. children gathered to write an essay about life if they were president. an attempt to break a world record with children working on an essay in the same spot.

stanley is marking a milestone. his 100th birthday. at the glory day estates, they toasted him with a party and received a ring from his alma mater, roman catholic high. he graduated in 1995. and served with the marines and a standing ovation.

heat and then temperatures will drop but then the humidity will actually rise again. satellite 6 along with action radar showing that this system that pulled through last night, the cold front has now stalled to the south and there is a wave of low pressure that is riding along that tomorrow and that could bring a few spotty thunderstorms generally south of philadelphia, tonight though, will be rain free on the muggy side and partly cloudy and 75 in philadelphia and allentown 64 and cape may 75 and wilmington 72. future tracker 6 showing tomorrow morning a lot of clouds south of the city, and clearing skies up to the north and thunderstorms will be developing south of philadelphia later in the day. so the five-day at 5:00, showing the heat wave continues tomorrow at 92 degrees and thursday 93 and the heat wave is over and it comes at a cost. it's humid friday and saturday with showers and thunderstorms perhaps some heavy ones and saturday perhaps a thunderstorm as well.

"action news" continues with meteorologist, adam joseph, jaime apody, rick williams and monica malpass. >> welcome back as we continue our coverage of the democratic national convention and moments ago the official role call got underway, this is a live look from the wells fargo center the floor is packed as delegates are expected to help hillary clinton become the first female presidential nominee of a major party. rick williams is joining us from inside. >> reporter: that is right. we are waiting for clinton to officially secure the total 2382 delegates to clinch the nomination, this is a process that could take an hour or so. there are concerns that bernie sanders supporters could get a bit boisterous, to say the least. both clinton and sanders name were placed in nomination for president, largely a symbolic gesture for sanders supers but

gives them another chance to show their displeasure with hillary clinton. things are getting noisier and noisier. we'll keep you updated on the role call vote tonight. new jersey has both clinton and sanders supporters and this evening it's delegates have a chance to make history. nora muchanic talked to some of those delegates and she is live on the convention floor with more. >> reporter: hi there rick, the new jersey delegation is pumped and ready to play the part in the role call that will put hillary clinton over the top and give her this nomination, they are all the way across the room and the new jersey role call will be delivered by john curry and robert menendez and corey booker who hit it out of the park last night with his speech at the convention and while there are hurt feelings with bernie sanders supporters, tonight they want to be part of history as the first woman in u.s. history receives a major

her real genuine love of america of her kids -- >> two more debaters took the hot seat at the famous 4th street deli, this time a hillary clinton supporter and an undecided squared off. >> in college i was identified as a socialist and marxist at one time. the whole bernie phenomenon would be a natural extension of my lifetime of interest in politics but i believe in hillary clinton. >> my perception of hillary 20 years ago, i think the system has changed her, changed her husband. and i know no longer see the differences. >> the two debaters don't agree on who should be the next commander and chief but agree that it should not be donald trump. >> the choice for the two of us in terms of what is the alternative is very clear.

#6abcaction. lets send it back to the "action news" studio and monica. >> thank you rick. because of the dnc there are traffic restrictions across the city. matt pellman is keep ago and eye on it all. >> reporter: from the role call to the traffic that just started rolling here in center city along north broad and the local vine, both are blocked by protesters on the move southbound from temple on down to city hall, the protesters have made their way through, the roads just reopened a few minutes ago but there is gridlock in center city in the wake of the protesters on the march. in old city we have the stuck bus blocking the ramp from market street eastbound. i have a hunch this is a bus carrying delegates because otherwise this bus would not be allowed on this chunk of i-95 because of the weight restrictions, no vehicles over 5 tons over the vine and platt bridge, we see delays heading

towards the police check point, where they are blocking lanes and making sure no heavy vehicles are traveling on that stretch of 95 through south philadelphia. and delays on the a.c. expressway eastbound from the airport accident. that is an accidents taking out two lanes. locally main street or 322 to the north are some alternates. monica back over to you. brand new at 5:30, a 75-year-old man is dead and another woman is fighting for her life after a crash on academy road. the man crashes of the center line and hit head-on at 3:15 and medics rushed him to the hospital but he died a short time later. the driver of the second car is a 35-year-old woman and in critical condition. investigates are underway after a police officer is involved in a police crash in upper dash, it happened after

starter, bradup was arrested in miami yesterday, he and his friends were allegedly involved in an assault with a hotel worker, the eagles are aware of the interests den and he is expected at eagles training camp tomorrow. the eagles snapped their losing streak and will try to make it a win in miami. last night he threw six shutout innings and allowed only one hit. he got a no decision and the phillies failed to score until the eighth. phillies added three more in a 4-0 win. >> we are growing up and bonding which is huge. we have a lot of young players on this team and that says a lot about our veterans too, howie

how their delegates are voting, a process that will end with the nomination of hillary clinton for president. but 46% of the bound delegates in this hall tonight will be casting their ballots for bernie sanders but in a show of utility and unity that is the yellow brick road for the people here, the state of vermont, bernie sanders' home state is expected to nominate clinton by acclimation, making her the first woman nominee of a major political party. that could happen in about 45 minutes. this is the way it looked wendell wear announced its vote a short time ago. >> delaware you have 32 votes how do you cast your votes? >> delaware casts 9 votes for bernie sanders. and cast 23 votes for the next
