his fourth straight convention just before he takes the stage vice presidential nominee, tim kaine, will have a chance to introduce himself in prime time. and delaware native, current vice president, joe biden, will address the crowd as will his wife jill biden. and former commissioner ramsey will address the crowd tonight. >> sara bloomquist is live on the convention floor with more on the busy night ahead. >> reporter: the delegates are arriving right now and beginning to take their seats. a very big night ahead, earlier on in this session we expect that virginia governor, tim kaine's name will be put in for vice president. michael bloomberg, tim kaine, and joe biden and capping it off with president barack obama.

we spoke with pennsylvania delegates here on the floor and asked who they are most looking forward to hearing from. >> i think everyone is looking forward to hearing from the president and future vice president, tim kaine. >> what does this message need to be? >> i think we want to hear why hillary clinton is the right choice, we are looking for that unity season we are getting closer each day and i think tonight can go a long way. >> the message needs to be continues on sync with unity, we have seen what hillary has done throughout her entire career, her husband, our former president, bill clinton, delivered an incredible message that everyone can relate to, i think if they repeat that again and talk about her as a person, people can see why she is the obvious choice. >> it's clearly about unity, and a positive message. i don't know if you were here for the practice performances, what the world needs now is

love, and the whole different message that the democratic convention is giving that the republicans convention simply did not. >> reporter: delegates also looking forward to seeing some celebrities. angela basset, sigourney weaver and henry kravitz. this is about to get underway at any moment. >> note worthy speakers to say the least. thank you. people will be closely watching it's speech from hillary clinton's running mate, a chance for virginia senator, tim kaine, to introduce himself on a national stage. he walked through the wells fargo center and did a sound check at the podium and kaine spoke to the virginia delegates at their breakfast in philadelphia. is he proud to be second in command to hillary clinton on the democratic ticket. >> how many times have women stood to support male candidates and male presidents and been

rock solid in support of them. i think it's great for men to be able to stand and support strong women leaders across this nation. >> kaine also talked to delegates from florida and iowa earlier today. we are still awaiting the arrival of air force one, the president is expected to land in philadelphia at 9:45 tonight but vice president, joe biden, and his motorcade are already out and about in philadelphia today. the secret service blocked area around 13th this morning. vice president biden was at mcgillin's old ale house to meet with the pennsylvania delegation. meanwhile donald trump is drinking his campaign to pennsylvania holding a town hall in scranton but it was his news conference that raised a lot of eyebrows when trump said this. russia if are you listening i hope you able to find the 30,000

emails that are missing, i think he will probably be rewarded mightily by the press. lets see if that happens. that will be next. >> this comes amidst the swirling controversy that the russian government hacked into the democratic national committee in order to sway the election into trump's favor. he openly encouraged saying he liked it very much and would like to see hillary clinton's email. he denied involvement with the russian government and failed to release his tax documents. meanwhile protests across philadelphia touching it out in the heat to make their voices heard. bob brooks is live near the comcast center with more on those protests and that was one of the targets today bob. >> reporter: yes brian, things got tense at the comcast center,

so much so the protesters stormed inside of the building and lirnged themselveses to railings inside. as a result of that there are police all around the perimeter of the building, keep things safe for all protests today. and we are hearing from the commissioner of police they have been. >> one group of pro tests were able to beat the heat. but only for a few minutes. look at these pictures, they stormed inside of comcast center and zip tied themselves tos to railing. >> their message -- >> the media has nothing to say ♪ >> they were taken into custody and given citations and sent on their way. according to commissioner ross, their protest was passionate but peaceful. >> extremely, like the group out

here. then back to the protest line. >> we are demonstrating against comcast. we have strong convictions that the media has been polluting and cooperating with the manner in which the dnc has corrupted and stolen our democracy. not far away from the thomas paine plaza, feel the person continues. though he is not the democratic nominee, the black men for bernie says they are ready to continue the fight that the vermont senator started. >> we have thousands of people that put a lot of work in to put forth a progressive movement, so what this is, is a celebration of those efforts. >> reporter: back out live here, people are fired up and passionate and good to hear from the commissioner, so far things have been peaceful, and people well behaved. bob brooks, channel 6 "action news." >> all right bob thank you.

and those protesters were of course out there in extreme heat but ac weather says there is finally some relief on the way. lets check in with meteorologist, adam joseph, live outside of the wells fargo center with a first look at the forecast today. >> reporter: yes, that relief is a little bit of a drop in humidity here this afternoon. but being outside here on the grounds of the wells fargo center it feels hotter today than it did yesterday despite that is not the case, because there is less of a breeze, you are not breathing as well, so spoke speak. it's in the 92 in allentown and 90 in wilmington but the shore with the wind coming in at the shore. 80 cape may and 83 at the atlantic city airport. factor into it's humidity it's fairly low and the 92 in philadelphia only feels like 93, it's basically the same and 91 in reading and 100 in dover and more humid down to the south and cape may 85 degrees is the

current heat index. it drops there and there are storms that pass through and most of them are off the coast, stormtracker 6 live double scan. there is an another flair up in fortescue, heading towards sea isle city, that got hammered a short time ago as the flooding rains passed by. one more corscorchers of a day tomorrow with a round of heavy storms coming through tomorrow after into tomorrow night and over the weekend 50/50 one day is better than the other and a flash flood watch is issued for most of our area, this goes into effect tomorrow evening and lasts into friday and we could see flooding downpours with -- 2 to 3 inches of rain. we'll have the full accuweather forecast coming up. >> thank you. brand new video here from just within the last half hour, as hillary clinton officially touched down in philadelphia,

she will officially accept the democratic nomination for president in just more than 24 hours. just one of the story lines we are following here at the democratic national convention, it's widely assumed they will make an appearance here tonight. today is a rather tough day, the toughest yet to get around the city of philadelphia because of the traffic restrictions and the motorcade like the one we are showing you. the arrival of president obama will result in more closures. matt pellman is live in the traffic center with the details. >> reporter: it started early this morning, and then motorcade after motorcade after motorcade today. no motorcades now for the afternoon rush and the protesters are mostly on the local city streets, the more major arteries like broad street and local vine are open, unlikeied afternoon. vine street expressway

underneath all open and at this point traffic is not moving terribly. eastbound approaching 95 you have the check point and vehicles over 5 tons don't get on the southbound side of 95, the two check points on 95 are causing delays one again this afternoon. hopefully are you used to that by now. and all the big, heavy vehicles are detoured over here to the platt bridge where a vehicle broke down in the eastbound lanes coming away from 95. both lanes open heading towards 26 and street. tacony palmyra bridge is open for a ship, and expect an open at the burlington bristol bridge in just a bit. and a crash on 73 southbound at 295 causing slowing there. lets grab the ipad and do the commuter report on this hump day.

we welcome you back to the wells fargo center in south philadelphia. here is a live look at the stage where tonight president barack obama will headline a prominent list of speakers that includes vice president biden and vice presidential hopeful, tim kaine. this convention has the highest number of lgbt delegates in history, so perhaps it's history that a local group use sd the dnc as a backdrop for a new monments.

the philadelphia conference historical marker was unveiled today at the art street meeting house. the marker designated where 300 activists from around the country met in 1979 to organize the national march on washington for gay rights. and academy award winner, dustin black was on hand to mark the occasion today. we are giving you a chance to express your freedom of speech for the 2016 election, we set up a national soap box where anyone and everyone can step up to the microphone. >> we need more candidates in the democratic party, there needs to be more options, because picking between two lesser evils is still picking evil. >> i think it's one of the biggest elections in my life, and i am happy to be a part of it, i think the millennials

day to be at the shore. erin o'hearn is live in atlantic city. there is no better time than now for a break on the beach. i'm jealous, you wants to switch spots here? >> alicia it's still pretty hot down here especially on the boardwalk but the farther away you move from the convention the cooler it gets and we are not just talking temperatures. >> normally we go into the city for something, forget it's too crowded and too crazy. >> the end of july is normally when the heat starts to sizzle and beaches start to crowd. >> it was so hot, the heat index was 106. we wanted to be at the beach. even though we have water parks in the poconos you can't beat the beach. >> the cape may department of tourism is calling 2016 a perfect storm to drive people to the shore, the heat and the heated political convention. >> traffic was heavy coming in

through philly. >> the tourist department made their marketing efforts to show that the jersey cape is the perfect spot. >> people are taking the long weekends and they are calling their bosses and trying to get days off to not have to go back to the city. >> most here planned vacations and booked rentals months ago, hotels around atlantic city have plenty of rooms for the last minute get-aways. but businesses on the boardwalk say the extreme heat may drop beach goers but not necessarily customers. >> hot on the beach but not necessarily on the boardwalk. >> the tourism department says the uptick in business over the past week is due to the heat but they are pushing a big digital and social media campaign to try to get delegates to extend their stay and perhaps visit the jersey shore after the convenience is over so we may

see even a bigger crowd this weekend. we are live along the atlantic city boardwalk. >> thank you. well, it's cooler at the shore here in the city we are dealing with yet another day in this extended heat wave, we'll go back to meteorologist, adam joseph, outside of wells fargo center in south philadelphia. where adam you say it's feeling hotter than yesterday although technically it's not. >> the humidity has dropped since yesterday and we don't have as strong as a breeze as yesterday. it's stifling standing here kicking in a bit now, it kind of helps to dry you out so to speak. the numbers now it's hot everywhere around the delaware valley. a little cooler there, with the sea breeze and storms that pass through. 83 at cape may point and 87 in millville and dover, and 92 philadelphia and 91 in reading and 91 in allentown and day six with temperatures of 90 or

above. talk about the july heat, we felt it this particular year. the hottest temperature twice over was 97 degrees we had three heat waves this month and 14 days of 90 or above where the average is typically 11 we'll add another at least one day this week to that total. it's active to the south once again and that boundary is draped south of pittsburgh and charleston, west virginia, and roanoke and richmond with the eruption of downpours and thunderstorms, most of this is to the south with the exception of the shore and it will lift to the north here as we go into tomorrow afternoon into friday morning. tonight it's partly cloudy and warm and humid, 66 in allentown unreading, 76 in philadelphia and millville. as we track the heat tomorrow, you combine the temperature and humidity, you'll see between noon and 2:00 we peak between 96 and 97 degrees and the human

peaks tomorrow and that gets us into trouble with downpours and storms. you can see the eruption of the downpours and thunderstorms, it even be here where i'm standing tomorrow we could see up to 1 to 3 inches of rainfall, they are hit or miss and then more organized thursday night into friday morning. we have a risk for severe storms especially south of philadelphia and southern parts of delaware and the shore communities during the day tomorrow and the biggest threat is strong winds with the flooding downpours. your four day at 4:00, steamy with storms and afternoon storms developing tomorrow of 93 degrees, unsettled especially the first part of the day on friday with the flash flood warning in effect at 95 and sun here on saturday and 87 and showers and storms developing again, an active sunday with your temperature of 84 degrees, alicia as we get into this time tomorrow it may not be as sunny

district has been cooperative. the man accused of trying to kill ronald reagan is release today. john hinckley jr. is said to be able to leave a mental institution. he was found not guilty by reason of insanity. hinckley is now 61 years old and doctors said for years he is no longer a danger to society. he is spending 17 days each year living in his mother's home in virginia. still to come on "action news," we checked in with local businesses to see how they were doing with the convention in town, we'll have answers after the break.

under way. the convention gavelled in 5 or 10 minutes ago. tim kaine will be nominated by bobby scott and then a motion to suspend the rules and have an up or down voice vote. that should happen quickly probably within the next few minutes. later this evening kaine will address the convenience and the stage will be busy with high-profile speakers, include joe biden and his wife jill biden and president barack obama will take the stage. >> air force one will touch down later tonight and is expected to speak at 10:00 p.m. to rally the party around hillary clinton. >> it turns out that some biggss are not getting the big boost that they were hoping for. delegates are going to local

businesses, bars and hotel. some are doing better than others, john rawlins is live in philadelphia with the details. >> reporter: hi guys, last week we roamed center city asked people about their expectations, when 50,000 people come calling and spending for the dnc. now halfway through we came back to see what is hatching so far. >> last week kevin's terminal bakery was gearing up for more sales with you it has been slow. >> 75% to 80% of a normal week. so down. >> around the corner at dinics it's been an okay but not stellar week. >> it's been a decent week better than your average mid summer week but not a 50,000 person convention kind of week. >> at chris's jazz club.

down. >> uber, one organization is saying is having a good convention. the demand for uber rides up 60%. john rawlins, channel 6 "action news." >> all right john thank you. we want to take a live look down on the convention floor where just moments ago tim kaine from virginia was officially nominated as the vice president to run on this democratic ticket with hillary clinton. it came by voice vote as was expected. congresswoman fudge asking yes or no, a notable nay presents, the ongoing presence of the bernie sanders supporters that oppose the nomination of both hillary clinton and tim kaine. but tim kaine as of this moment officially the nominee for vice president of the democratic party. and now a check of the accuweather forecast. it's a hot day but days of all

of this heat, the cement and buildings make it feel worse. >> it feels hot no matter what they say. >> reporter: i was in your studio, it's freezing in there, and i'm sweltering out here. that is not fair. all right -- as we take a look out here, we are back in the 90s for another day and the sunshine is in control but the humidity has dropped a little bit from yesterday. the present dew points again in the 60s slightly humid and 70s oppressive and tropical. all of that is pushed down to richmond and 74 is your dew point and 65 in washington and 64 in philadelphia. and if we could only tap into binghamton at 55 degrees. as we look at the present heat index it feels like 95 in philadelphia and 89 in new york city and 96 in washington and richmond 100 degrees. stormtracker 6 live double scan will show it's active in western

virginia and west virginia back to the tennessee valley and parts of kentucky, this is along a boundary, you see the orange popping on some of these storms, that is severe and this lifts to the north here tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow night and friday morning. because of that and with the extreme humidity returning again a flash flood watch is in effect from tomorrow evening into friday evening, where we could have heavy hitters. not only the possibility of strong winds but flooding rainfall of 1 to 3 inches in a short amount of time. so it's quiet around here tomorrow but the last day of the dnc especially for the folks outside in the media tents behind me, they may be inundated with heavy rain like it began on monday. we'll chat more about that in the seven-day forecast. coming up in just a little bit. >> okay adam thank you. >> all week long we have been mentioning we are inviting you our "action news" viewers to be part of this event.

day three of the democratic national convention, we welcome you back to the live coverage of the wells fargo center. as we have been details, we expect another busy night here, big speakers including vice president joe biden and to cap it off president barack obama. and bernie sanders was set to speak at the delegation breakfast and canceled on that in the middle of the night and delegates were told that they plan to vote for hillary clinton, that is what they told us but they are not abandoning bernie's movement. and we caught up with margie and chelsea clinton's mother-in-law. >> i know what is being said is take the high road. and that is so important. >> she also told us that after this convention is over, the polls will change and that hillary clinton will surge ahead of donald trump. >> with the president and vice president in town tonight,

traffic is likely to be affected. matt pellman is in the traffic center with an update on how the highways and roads are looking. >> no doubt about it. in addition to all the complications with the dnc brian and sharrie, we are watching a vehicle fire here on the pennsylvania expressway in the eastbound lanes east of the 202 in king of prussia and they have the right lane blocked right now because of the vehicle fire up ahead and the fire crews did get out here and extinguished the fire and everything is off to the side and they will pick up the cones and open the right lane shortly. it's jammed solid off 202 and 422 getting on the eastbound side of the schuylkill. you may want to use the pennsylvania turnpike but speeds there are in the 20s south gulph road could be an alternate. 95 southbound side this vehicle was facing sideways and at least now it's straightened out and

pushed to the side but southbound extra heavy from academy approaching this point at cotman and farther south you have the delays approaching the police check point by the vine and delays in delco heading towards that check point by the platt bridge. and burlington bristol bridge going up in 10 minutes or so for a northbound ship head for the turnpike connecter instead. we'll check it again in the 5:00 hour. >> we'll take it matt thanks. >> day three of course of the dnc is in full swing but we send it back to alicia vitarelli in the studio. a story out of california we are following today. firefighters battling a massive wild fire and they are working around the clock. officials say that the fire is 40% contained it has charred more than 35 square miles since it first began on friday afternoon. officials say that 18 houses have been destroyed and some

he has his uniform on and they did have a game and i talked to dad today, and he told me they won. great dad and great kid and lucky bat. speaking of great kids in sacramento, this 6-year-old ethan tells us he wants to be a garbage man, they got him suited up and put him to work and the truck had his name on it and his classmates were there cheering him on. >> cool! >> we'll go jump some -- >> cleaner city. there you go. this dream die was the work of the make-a-wish foundation and the sanitation department. his driver says he was flattered. not a lot of people want their job. but this little guy did. and boy did he do it.

sunny but it's combined this week, one the brutal heat waves we have endured this year and we have one more day of it. look at the center city skyline, a beautiful shot there and a little haze in the atmosphere and tomorrow it's a whole different story. the atmosphere will get juiced back up and heavy hitters this time tomorrow. temperatures in philadelphia, our temperature is sitting at 92 degrees, and 90 in allentown, and 90 in reading and notice the sea breeze at the shore. and 83 at the atlantic city airport. you factor in the humidity is relatively low here, and the same as the air temperature. 95 millville and more humid in dover and 91 in allentown. it indicates a boundary to the south but all the severe weather

has been developing in virginia and west virginia, and lifting to the north here as we go through the day tomorrow. it's partly cloudy and warm and muggy once again, and 76 in philadelphia, and no wind to try to aleve ate the humidity. and a series of low pressure will be passing through here and exiting up into boston. we have many rounds of heavy storms to go through right into the upcoming weekend and the first one arrives here tomorrow afternoon, scattered in variety as we look at future tracker at 3:00 tomorrow afternoon and you can see it's pretty active around the region with heavy rainfall and some gusty winds and it starts to even ramp up more into friday morning as low pressure rides through especially up to the poconos and the north western suburbs and dry in jersey and as we head into a later part of your friday morning, that is when it collapses over philadelphia again with really heavy rain.

and that is why we have the flash flood watch in effect. what to expect here thursday afternoon into friday, rounds of heavy thunderstorms and a quick 1 to 3 inches of rain with flash flooding concerns and damaging winds and a slight risk of severe weather here tomorrow. your seven-day forecast here tomorrow with storms developing in the evening and morning and 93 and unsettled friday not morning hours of 95 and humid with a break here on saturday and storms and 87 and back in the forecast with a wave of energy and sunny and 84 and seasonable and monday and tuesday dry and then the heat returns on wednesday of 90 degrees. so alicia we have one more day of this heat wave tomorrow and then heads out with a bang with the storms so the folks outdoors here at the dnc may have to take shelter once again like they did the first day on monday. that is something we are tracking for you as well. hopefully you are nice and cool in the studio and i'll see you
