sara are off and i'm matt o'donnell. in the news thousands of south jersey residents are urned to keep boiling their water. and officials determine that mosquitos near miami have inf t infected four people with the zika virus. the first zika transmission on the main land. and the big story is democrats getting ready to leave town. hillary clinton will head out on a campaign tour the first day after accepting her party's presidential nominee. and her battle with donald trump is 102 days away. katherine scott is live at temple university where delicious and her running mate will address the crowd. >> reporter: it's absolutely packed here. there are several thousand people packed into mcgonegal hall.

katie mcginty is on the podium. we heard from josh shapiro and doors opened at 10:00 but people got here hours earlier to make sure they could get inside. the doors at the hall opened at 10:00 a.m. and the bleachers soon started filling. clinton-kaine supporters were eager to get inside. >> we could not take a chance on not seeing hillary up close. >> chris was first in line arriving at 4:15 a.m., his bag of potato chips and conviction for this campaign helped to fuel him through the morning wait. >> i was at a rally once before in new jersey and it was the same getting here early. >> this rally was to be held at independence hall but moved it inside because of the rainy forecast. >> and no one was more excited

hillary clinton is bill clinton and kim hall stone, tim kaine's wife. you saw the balloons rain down at the wells fargo center last night and they are cleaning them up ever since. crews continue throughout the day to take out the trash and return the arena to the original state. they must remove all the remn t remnants including the stage. the political convention letting out the night before and the bad weather has caused a backup at the philadelphia international airport. janet reyes is joining us live at phl. >> reporter: it's an exhilarating and exhausting for people coming to philadelphia for the convention and now they

are their flights are canceled. >> a frustrating night could not be anymore stark. >> i came from convention fun and decided to go straight home. >> delegates like lindsay henson partied through the wee hours of it's night and came straight to the airport. the storms canceled 200 incoming and out going flights and leaving passengers stranded and forced to spend the night. >> i was crossing the breeze way and people were sleeping there and people were redirected with the weather yesterday and then the people trying to get out and hence the line. >> the long flight from greece and is delayed here over 27 hours. >> i'm exhausted and hungry and a cry baby because i haven't

slept and i was in the airport and freezing. >> there was long winding lines and passengers there were not hit nearly as hard. nathaniel white says there is a good chance he may not go home until tomorrow. >> what did they tell you? >> i am trying to find out. >> a sign of the significance of yesterday's event was when stranded passengers still see the silver lining. >> it makes me less upset because i care about what is going on and i'm all for hillary. >> coming back out live, you see on the board for departures there is mostly delays and that causes the ripple effect, it's better but talking about 15% of all flights canceled yesterday, airport officials tell me it's a bad mix and timing of the dnc.

and not so pretty weather. to improve later on today. reporting live at philadelphia international airport janet reyes, channel 6 "action news." >> thanks janet, delegates leaving town were drenched by downpours, and the water pushing upstreams and creeks right now. what is left? nice sunny skies and a few clouds out there. david murphy is outside with an accuweather preview. >> reporter: i'll tell you what, it's a shame most delegates are leaving this afternoon because this afternoon will probably be the best of the week, we are showing you the heavy round of rain that crime books came through and one last batch earlier this morning. the clouds have dispersed we have sunshine behind that. 80 in allentown and 80 in cape may, the dew points are noticeable and out of the 70s in philadelphia but a 68 dew point

as well. and so still pretty muggy around the region. as you mentioned there is that chance of a pop-up thunderstorm this afternoon. 86 is your high around average after days we were over average, and oh, yes that 86 means that the heat wave that lasted a week is over as of today. in terms of afternoon showers and thunderstorms, you can see they are scattered few and far between, and if they do hit you'll want to take cover if there is lightning. and a brief downpour is not out of the question. there is a better chance of afternoon spotty showers and thunderstorms activity tomorrow and even a better chance on sunday. we'll have the call from the shore and the poconos where they try to get nascar in this weekend. >> thanks david. republican presidential nominee, donald trump, is sounding off on hillary clinton's dnc speech. he criticized her for not saying

the words radical islam. she said she would work to fight the radicalization of people in the u.s. >> some of bernie sanders' delegates walked out last night. a group of protesters wore yellow shirts and said enough is enough and left. and others stood inside and chanted and held protest signs as clinton accepted the democratic nomination. six more people are facing charges in connection with the shootout in san diego. we are waiting for hillary clinton to speak at temple university and we'll bring it to you live when it happens.

a boil water advisory remains in effect in camden and it's for customers that live west of the cooper river. crews made repairs yesterday but are testing the quality of that water. fallout in flint, michigan,

in connection with the led water crisis there, they have charged another eight employees. charged with misconduct in office and various other counts. they used the tap water for 18 months to save money and that water was improperly treated and coursed through aging pipes and fixtures that released toxic led. florida announces that four people infected by zika by mosquitos near downtown miami. but governor scott says no mosquitos in florida have tested positive so far. these are the first linked not to travel outside of the u.s. >> the federal government needs to do their part. this is not just a florida issue, a u.s. issue and national issue but we are at the front of

it. >> for most people zika causes mild illnesses, but it could lead to birth defects for an unborn baby. and shots from seemingly out of nowhere led police to make arrests. police say that someone started firing shots at police and none of them were injured and authorities have no idea what provoked the gun fire. in addition to the arrest of a man investigators are questioning a possible person of interested. a police officer is dead and northern critically injured after a late night traffic stop led to a shootout along the streets of san diego. >> officers are working on getting the victims out of here. the shot is definitely a handgun. both officers are part of the gang suppression unit. leading to one suspect being shot and taken into custody. police in san diego are still

looking for more suspects. part of a d.c. metro train went off the tracks in virginia, two cars derailed at the platform at east falls church. 75 people were on board but only one person suffered minor injuries, there is ongoing maintenance work in the area. a new clue emerged into what happened to malaysia flight 370, they allege that the captain or someone in his home used his flight simulator to plot a course to the indian ocean, the discovery lead some to wonder if the pilot had plotted a mass murder-suicide. investigators cannot rule anything out because they never recovered the black boxes. firefighters are making head way on a massive fire burning along california coastline. the flames burned 37 square

miles are 15% contained and the wild fire has destroyed dozens of homes and threatens thousands more and at least 350 people are evacuated from the area and several state parks are closed until further notice. coming up on "action news" reversing the damaging health effects of sitting at the office all day, and it's not exactly a cinch. and it's called the blow drying beauty salon and it has arrived in philadelphia and we'll take you there at 12:30.

atlantic city has agreed to accept a loan that poses some risk. city council approved the advance so the gambling town can avoid a default and bankruptcy. but if they don't pay back they would have to give up water and the state could take over. the agency that inspired americans by venturing into space turned 58 years old today. president dwight eisenhower and congress made nasa an agency back in 1958 and they started operations a few months later. and suggestions on how to reverse the health risks with sitting too much. a new study found that 60 to 75 minutes of moderately intense exercise would undo the effects of sitting eight hours a day.

you that the rain from earlier this morning that came down in buckets for a while is well off the coast. and if we take a look outside we have a nice one building across the region and it's muggy out there. and center city on the action cam, beginning to return, and a fair amount of sunshine across the region, a high of 82, and the dew point has finally sipped down out of the 70s and the 68 indicates fairly humid air. winds out of the north at 16 miles per hour. it's a pretty nice breeze we are experiencing currently, 82 in philadelphia, and reading and 82's on the map, and 79 in trenton and 81 in cape may, new jersey. satellite and radar showing up on future tracker 6 for you and it looks like the afternoon will feature a good deal of sunshine, every now and then there is a chance of a spotty or shower and clouds down south later in the afternoon and 6:00 a

thunderstorm popping up here and there, the majority of the reece stays dry this afternoon and if you get rain it's probably a little bit and it's done. a spotty shower here or there. up in the lehigh valley the afternoon sun building in and a high of 85 degrees, no longer in the 90s like we were yesterday. at the shore the afternoon sun in the forecast, and bursting through some we talked about sunscreen, on the beach because of that increased sunshine following morning clouds, overall in philadelphia, warm and humid of 86 degrees and a chance of a spotty shower or thunderstorm, it's a small chance. and planning to tgo to the movis it should hold out tonight. a temperature of 77 degrees and muggy tonight and good to get out and do stuff. 72 is the overnight low and

patchy fog possible saturday morning, and winds are light into tomorrow. tomorrow say day of change, we get clouds and sun early and by lunch time a pop-up shower or rumble of thunder. and it won't be raining all the time but a chance of a shower or thunderstorm, and humid enough if you get rain starting out of that air mass, it could produce a drenching downpour. by 11:00 more of the same and the last model runs haven't done a lot down the shore. for the weekend today 80 degrees, the shower and thunderstorm chance really minimal. tomorrow 81 degrees and most of our showers and thunderstorms are away from the shore but keep your eyes out for it. pretty much the same story in the poconos, pocono racing is fine today and tomorrow perhaps an afternoon thunderstorm and the same story on sunday. we'll see if we get the races in without interruption.

86 is the high and earlier rain and a pop-up shower or thunderstorm and tomorrow warm and humid and 86 degrees and a spotty thunderstorm possible in places in the afternoon and evening in particular. humid on sunday with more showers and thunderstorms around and high of 85. partly sunny on monday and a stray thunderstorm is possible and i think most of you are in for a dry one. and then completely dry readings for tuesday and wednesday and 88 by wednesday but still probably comfortable enough. phillies come back to town, tuesday, wednesday and thursday. >> thank you. coming up democrats sure know how to party and leave a mess. we'll show you what it takes to clean up the convention site. and will they stay or will they go? oscar and big bird and elmo, are confused on who is appearing on the revamped sesame street.
