by one degree. it's warm and humid out there. now we're talking about an unsettled pattern that started yesterday, actually it started thursday afternoon with the drenching downpours, we are expecting more downpours as we head into the afternoon and once again sunday. jersey shore, that's a beautiful view in cape may. lots of clouds this morning. the shorepoints might be the exception to the rule today you might escape the shower and thunderstorms. tomorrow is a different story, you might be on all right on the sand this afternoon. light rain in the poconos, everybody else ask dry. it's oppressively humid with high dewpoints in time low to mid 70s. glassboro, 76. gandys beach, 67 degrees. vineland, 67. smyrna and dover, 72. here's satellite and radar, right along the immediate coastline we're pretty much quiet from maine to the virginias and the carolinas,

showers and storms are possible this afternoon as a small little disturbance comes on through, with all the tropical humidity we'll see the drenching downpours and heavy rain. if you hear thunder, head on in doors. 87 degrees is the high, pulling back to 82. when i come back in just a few minutes we'll talk about the drenching downpours and who sees the heaviest and when they clear in the seven day forecast. >> new this morning, a 2-year-old child is recovering from smoke inhalation after being rescued from a house fire in north philadelphia. the fire started at 2:30 a.m. in the 2800 block of north pelsworth street. this morning it is not clear what started the fire. also new, two suspects in custody this morning after a shooting that happened in south philadelphia this led to a bad crash. police say it started at a party at the american legion post 153

in the 2400 block of passyunk avenue. the altercation spilled out into a nearby parking lot when someone started shooting hitting a man in the stomach. several cars were riddled by bullets. officers chased the car speeding away from the parking lot. the driver we are told jumped the curb and crashed. police are questioning two men, the victim is in critical condition. a man is in critical condition after being shot in the back in west philadelphia. this happened around 11:30 p.m. on the 300 block of north 52nd street. the victim was hit once in the back. all three shell casings were found at the scene and no arrests have been made. the drama and excitement of both political conventions now over and the race for the white house of course in full swing today democratic candidate hillary clinton and her vice president candidate tim kaine

are still in the keystone state they are stumping for votes in pittsburgh. that fold -- followed a kickoff rally at temple university. >> reporter: thousands screamed their ray approval when the clintons and the kaines took to the stage there. the idea was to throw red meat for the general election 100 days from now. >> i find it amusing when donald trump says make america great again. >> reporter: the toy factory is being lauded for creating jobs and investing in america. clinton said if elected her job plans would invest ten billion dollars to strengthen

clinton campaign says it was part of a broader hacker of the dnc. intelligence leaders say they are investigating, but there's strong evidence that russians may be behind the cyber intrusion. donald trump was on the attack during a rally in the battleground state of colorado. he told supporters in denver no more mr. nice guy, it was time to take off the gloves. in colorado springs trump criticized clinton's acceptance speech saying it was average and full of cliches. he encouraged the chant of lock her up. >> lock her up. >> you know what, i've been saying let's just beat her in november race, but you know what, no, no, you know what, i'm starting to agree with you, i'll

70 is for everybody, poconos, 65. reading an lancaster, 69. everybody else, 72 and 75. satellite and radar a little bit of patchy fog this morning. we'll see some sunshine to start, mixed with clouds, this disturbance here is west of pittsburgh that will swing through here with all the tropical moisture in the air, whatever sun we see will lead to the explosion of showers and thunderstorms. now, some of these could be strong to severe, good gust of wind, the biggest threat with the activity is going to be the drenching downpours. you can see the reds and the kind of purplish color starting to pop up on future tracker. that means heavy, drenching downpours. that will continue through the afternoon. the jersey shore looks like the activity will be too far to the west. if you're heading to the beach today, probably not see much in the way of sun, at least you'll stay drier. you're expecting to stay dry for the most part. this is sunday morning, more showers and thunderstorms

that home is two blocks down from where you're looking at right now. here's what we know as the story continues to develop this morning. police were called out at 5:00 a.m. they received a call from a woman who stated that her son burst into her home and demanded money from her, the mother ran screaming from the home to a neighbor's home where police were called. officers got to the scene as you see there, busy on the scene trying to deescalate the situation. they spoke to the mother, the 13-year-old sister inside the home. the brother inside the home with a gun refusing to leave the home. the police are surrounding the 5100 block of pulaski street. we'll watch the story throughout the morning and bring you updates as they become available.

state trooper is forced to fire his weapon after a suspect opened fire while the trooper responded to a 911 call. plus, a water main ruptures in northeast philadelphia forcing police to shut down parts of the roosevelt boulevard. dramatic rescue, a man is pulled from a sewer nearly two hours after he falls in. those stories, but first, chris sowers is tracking the forecast. rain in the future. >> reporter: downpours out there, it's a humid morning i'm sure you've been out there and felt that. the air is thick and tropical that will help to lead to the showers and thunderstorms later

1:00 p.m., 87. 3:00 p.m., same number, 5:00 p.m., 82. some of the storms could produce strong gusty winds and drenching downpours, gray? >> thank you so much. of 32:00 we want to -- 6:32 we want to get you caught up on breaking news. philadelphia police in the germantown section along pulaski street. the situation is over, there were no injuries reported. police got the call at 5:00 a.m. of a mother saying that her son stormed into the house with a gun and demanderred -- demanded money, the mother runs to a neighbor's home. she calls police, a 13-year-old girl the sister of the man who burst inside the home, he had a gun. the police deescalated the situation. no shots fired, the good news this is over, no injuries were

reported. as we get more information on this, we'll bring it to you. more breaking news to tell you about this morning. someone shoots at new jersey state troopers as they respond to a 911 call. here's what we know about this one. new jersey state police tell "action news" around midnight someone called 911 from an upper deerfield township home, but they hung up. troopers were sent to center ton road. a man on the front porch shot on the officers. the troopers returned fire and hit the man several times. a medical helicopter transferred him to cooper medical center. he is in critical condition. take a look at this scene quite the image there, water gushing from a broken main overnight forcing police to detour traffic off the

boulevard. the water main break under the sidewalks on the northbound side of the boulevard near levic street at 2:30 a.m. police shut down the inner and outer lanes of the boulevard. traffic had to be detoured on to bustleton avenue before the water was shut off. this morning work is just beginning on the broken water main. two people are in the hospital after a double shooting in the mantua section of philadelphia after 11:00 p.m. on the 600 block of north 38th street. we know that a man was shot once in the head. he was rushed to the hospital. he is in critical condition. a woman was also shot. she was hit in the leg and found not far from the scene. this morning police are not releasing anymore details about this, but what we can tell you so far no arrests have been made. 6:34 a.m. it was a dramatic rescue for philadelphia crews who worked for hours to save a man who fell into a sewer pipe. they fought for 2 1/2 hours to

rescue the victim. bob brooks with the details. >> reporter: finally 46-year-old david barr was pulled out of the city's sewage system, an entire neighborhood erupted in cheers. no doubt a huge relief for barr on the stretcher and one to the brave team that saved him. this is not a joke. again, somehow he ended up in the sewer system of the intersection of pike and 9th street. a witness said he told me he was going under ground. >> reporter: he goes by the name. >> boo. they call him boo boo. >> reporter: officials won't say how he ended up in there. the highly skilled heavy rescue one team suited up and went in after. >> sewage, it's sewage. >> reporter: okay, just so everyone has a picture how it happened. he entered this storm drain and makes his way through a pipe

18 inches in diameter and retrieved out of this hole here. >> the air quality is not good in a combined storm sanitary sewer. >> reporter: barr was pulled out after more than 2 1/2 hours in philadelphia sewage. we see him breathing oxygen before going to the hospital that had to feel and smell pretty good. >> it's crazy. only in philadelphia. >> reporter: okay, back out here, fire commissioner adam teal wanted to make note the great job his rescue team did to get barr out alive. reporting at temple university hospital, bob brooks, channel 6 "action news." >> the democratic national convention now in the history books, but all those colorful blooms and the confetti that fell from the wells fargo center ceiling has to be cleaned up. it could take weeks to return the facility back to are to a ss complex.

the convention put philadelphia in the national spotlight. there was no violence or serious injuries or heat related incidents. mayor kenny saluted the entire city workforce for their efforts and the salvation army volunteers who distributed 140,000 bottles of water to keep heme hydrated. the mayor said he knows the city pulled it off when he received praise from the nominee herself. >> secretary clinton came through the hallway and passed by everybody else and walked over to me and gave me a huge bear hug and whispered in my ear, this city is fabulous. >> that must have been a great experience. as for the economic impact, it was mostly muted a win for city restaurants and bars that hosted late night meals. places like the reading terminal

millville, 70. trenton, 72. allentown 73. there's not a breeze, so you can kind of cut it with a knife or something like that, very, very thick. wind speeds generally zero to 3 miles per hour. there's the disturbance right there just now moving into western pennsylvania. that will trigger the showers and thunderstorms later on. by 1:00 p.m. we're starting to see a couple of pop ups across the philadelphia area. the coverage will begin to increase throughout the day. some of these storms could produce driving downpours where we pick up 2 inches of rain in 30, 40 minutes time. that will continue in the afternoon hours. overnight tonight it will ease up a little bit as we lose the heating of the sun and things flare up tomorrow morning. if you have outdoor plans don't cancel them, but understand everybody is fair game for a pop-up shower or thunderstorm.
