with us, a pleasant good morning to you, 7:00 a.m., saturday, july 30. here's some of the stories we're following on "action news." overnight fire in north philadelphia sends a 2-year-old child to the hospital. plus, a police chase ends in a crash in south philadelphia following a shooting at a party. and the heat wave it may be gone, but the humidity is back, so is a chance for more thunderstorms. outside we go right now, meteorologist chris sowers outside with a look at the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. are we talking about severe storms, chris? >> reporter: the possibility is there, yeah for severe weather this afternoon. as you mentioned earlier, the heat is gone, but it feels awful. the humidity is so high, we have

patchy fog on city avenue this morning and lots of clouds upstairs. dewpoints in the 70s. dover, 74. cape may, 75. millville, 72. trenton, checking in at 74 degrees. here's satellite and radar, if you look towards the left-hand side of the screen you see the clouds and green starting to pop up there, there's an area of low pressure that will swing through later this afternoon and with the tropical moisture in place with the heating from the sun that will be the ingredients needed for showers and storms. some of the storms will produce heavy, drenching downpours where areas could pick up 2 to 3 inches of rain in an hour's time. if you get underneath one of the storms the possibility is there for low lying flooding in poor drainage areas. cloudy and warm, 87. it's not a wash this afternoon, but if you're in an area that picks up the storms you'll see heavy, drenching rains and strong gusty winds.

future tracker by 5:00 p.m. showing the activity to the west, but the the air is unstable in the delaware and the lehigh valleys, that means everybody is fair game. when i come back in just a few minutes i'll show you who gets hit the hardest and if there's cooler weather in the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. >> 7:02. new this morning, a 2-year-old child is recovering after being rescued from a home house fire in north philadelphia. as we know the fire started around 2:30 a.m. in the 2800 block of north pel street. crews say the child suffered from possible smoke inhalation. no cause for the fire. a victim ever a shooting in south philadelphia has died from his injuries. this comes hours after two suspects were taken into custody after a police chase that ended with a crash overnight. police say it started at a party

at the american legion post 153 on the 2400 block of passyunk avenue. a fight at a nearby parking lot escalated into a shooting. one man was shot in the stomach. that man has died. several cars were riddled with bullets. officers spotted a car speeding away from the parking lot they gave chase. the driver crashed the car after exiting the schuylkill expressway at university avenue. more new information to tell you about, a man is in critical condition this morning after he was shot in the back in west philadelphia. it happened around 11:30 on the 300 block of north 52nd street. the victim was hit in the back. police tell "action news" three shell casings were found at the scene. so far no arrests have been made. the race for the white house, of course, in full swing now that the convention for both parties are over. today democratic candidate, hillary clinton and tim kaine

they are still here in the keystone state. they are stumping for votes in pittsburgh. that followed a kickoff rally at temple university that happened yesterday, dan darn was -- dann cuellar was there. >> reporter: thousands screamed their approval when the clintons and the kaines took to the stage. keith was to throw red meat to entice a high turner vote out in the general election 100 days from now. >> i find it highly amusing that donald trump talks about make america great again he doesn't make a thing in america except bankruptcies. the next stop, the toy manufacturer that employs 200 people is being lauded for creating jobs and vesting in america. clinton said her first 100 days jobs plans would invest ten

computer server for the clinton campaign that allowed them to taylor their online content and advertising and solicit sayings. it was part of a broader hacking of the dnc. intelligence leaders say there is strong evidence that russia may be behind the cyber intrusion. the latest poll shows clinton is leading trump by five points. it shows it might be a tight race ahead. when it includes third party candidates clinton and trump tide at 35%. donald trump was on the attack during a rally in the battleground state of colorado last night. he told supporters in denver, no more mr. nice guy, it is time for him to take off the gloves.

burglaries. they are accused of going on a month long crime spree in georgetown and lincoln. they caused thousands of dollars in damages and stole everything from money to air-conditioning units and power tools. they are being held on $35,000 bond. police in evesham township hope this sketch will lead to the man who exposed himself to two 15-year-old girls. officers were called to the kings grant development. police say the girls were riding their bicycle also in the area when they saw the man you see here. when the girls ran off the suspect tried to chase them according to police, she flagged down a driver scaring off the suspect. the organization that comes to the aid of pets in the event of fires is celebrating an anniversary, red paws is

breaking news, a new jersey state trooper is forced to fire his weapon after a suspect opened fire while the trooper responds to a 911 call. plus, a water main ruptures in northeast philadelphia forcing police to shut down parts of the boulevard. bright sun across the jersey shore, don't let this pretty picture fool you, we're keeping our eyes on the skies for possible storms to move through the area. outside we go to chris sowers who is tracking the forecast. we're talking rain. >> reporter: the more sun you see this morning, the greater chances of seeing a heavy shower or thunderstorm later on. oppressively humid with dewpoints well into the 70s. even though we lost the dangerous heat we had a seven day heat wave in philadelphia, even though that has come to an end the humidity levels are extremely high.

they will remain high today and tomorrow and next week with dewpoints in the 70s. temperatures wise 76 in philadelphia at the 7:00 a.m. hour. allentown, 73. millville, 72. wilmington, 75 and cape may, 76 degrees. here's satellite and radar we're starting out with sunshine from new york all the way down to the virginia capes, the farther west you go that's when we pick up the clouds and showers even a few thunderstorms west of buffalo this morning. again all that activity will pull east as the day wears on. the day planner looks like starting out with sun increasing clouds as the day wears on, showers and thunderstorms are likely after lunchtime. 1:00 p.m., 87. 3:00 p.m., 87. 5:00 p.m., we're back down to 82. even though we're not in the 90s with all the humidity it will feel awful out here, very humid weekend is on the way, drenching downpours a good bet today or tomorrow. the good news we finally have relief in the accuweather

forecast. by the middle of next week it's beautiful with temperatures barely getting into the mid 80s and new humidity lots of sunshine. we have a few storms to get into before that arrives. i'll time it out for you on future tracker 6 and have all the details in the seven day forecast. >> thanks for the update. 7:32 a.m., a pedestrian was rushed to the hospital after being hit by a tractor-trailer in burlington county this morning. here's what we know about this. the victim was hit at 5:00 a.m. while crowing route 73 near fox meadow drive in maple shade. the victim was taken to cooper university hospital the pepper is in critical condition. route 73 is closed at fox meadow drive while police investigate the crash. more breaking news, someone shoots at new jersey state troopers as they respond to a 911 call. new jersey state police tell "action news" around midnight

someone called 911 from an upper deerfield township home but hung up. troopers from the bridgeton barracks were sent to the 300 block of centerton road. when troorns -- troopers got to the scene, someone fired from the front porch. troopers returned fire and hit the man several times. a million hell -- helicopter transferred him to cooper university hospital he is in critical condition. a bad collision left a tractor-trailer feet from their front door. the big rig crashed with a car happened on south college drive near old baltimore pike at 5:00 a.m. the tractor-trailer is on its side. state police say the impact of the crash flipped the truck causing the diesel tanks to rupture. the crash knocked down utility wires causing people to lose power. the drivers of both the car and

tractor-trailer were taken to christiana hospital to be treated. and take a look at this, water gushing from a broken main overnight forced police to detour traffic off the roosevelt boulevard in northeast philadelphia. the water main broke under sidewalks on the northbound side of the boulevard right in here levic street at 2:30 a.m. police shut down both the outer and inner lanes of the boulevard. traffic had to be detoured on to bustleton avenue until the water was shut off. and cleared from the roadway, work is just beginning on the broken water main this morning. time, 7 5:00 a.m., two people are in the hospital after a shooting in mantua section of philadelphia. it happened on the 600 block of north 38th street. a man was shot once in the head. he had to be rushed to the hospital. he is in critical condition. a woman was shot in the leg.

she was found not too far from the scene. this morning police not releasing a whole lot of information about this. we can tell you so far nobody has been arrested. ♪ the democratic national convention in the history books, all the colorful balloons and confetti that fell from the ceiling of the wells fargo center needs to be cleaned up. it could take weeks to return the facility back to a sports complex. philadelphia city leaders are declaring the convention week a success without any violence or serious injuries or heat related injuries. at a noorches -- news conference, jim kenny saluted the entire city workforce for their efforts and the salvation army volunteers who distributed 140,000 bottles of water. he said he knows he pulled it

that were near capacity. kathleen kane said she'll decide at her trial whether she will take the stand. she will want to see the case made against her before she decides if she will testify. she said as he is confident that she will be found not guilty, the trial is set to start august 8. lawyers for bob menendez say they will take the fight to get corruption charges caught all the way to the supreme court if necessary, an announcement comes after a third circuit court of appeals panel refused to throw out the charges on friday. he argues that he was meeting with political donor and friend to discuss policy matters. prosecutors allege he accepted gets in change for political influence. both men have pleaded not guilty. >> you will no longer be able

brooklyn, new york on friday. this is what folks had to deal with. the rain continued through much of the afternoon and into the evening commute. don't do that. the entire northeast region is under threat of heavy rains and flooding. we always tell people don't do it, but they do anyway.

let's get you caught up on the forecast. >> reporter: we'll see rain later this afternoon, hopefully we don't have pictures like that. don't drive in the water. it's a beautiful morning on the beach down in cape may you can see the sun glistening down. we have folks down there. it should be nice on the sand, a lot of clouds later on. heavier downpours are mainly for inland locations and areas west of philadelphia. you can see that guy, he is already dosing off in the chair. good for him looks like a fun time. let go over to the radars, nothing going on right now, we have showers and rumble of thunder in the poconos and now things are clearing out. what a month july has been, it was awful in terms of heat and humidity. we had three heat waves, remember a heat wave is three days in a row of 90 degrees or higher. we had is 15 days of 90 degreesr

higher. 11 is average. the forecast for accuweather for the summer was for 32 days of 90 degrees or higher in philadelphia. on average we're supposed to see 25. it was a 25% increase in the number of days this year. so far we've seen 23. we're 60% done, we have nine more days to go. there's a light at the end of the tunnel. 87 degrees is the forecasted high. i see model showing 90. depends on how much sunshine we see. this morning we're posting 87. fleetwood, 71. saint david, 73. chester, 74. center city, 76 degrees. agenda beach, 69. blue berry county, 71. ewing, 71 degrees. we'll start out with sunshine. as i mentioned earlier in the broadcast, the more sun we see

the greater chances there are of seeing showers and thunderstorms. there's so much instability in the atmosphere the sun it's like destructive sunshine. expect to see pop up thundershowers west of philadelphia. new jersey and delaware will get in the on the act same thing, pop-up showers and thunderstorms. overnight tonight it's mainly cloudy, but then showers and storms flare up. 4:30 a.m., over south jersey and pop pop-up thunderstorms in the delaware and lehigh valleys. it will not be a wash today or tomorrow. as a matter of fact there will be dry time in between the pop-up showers and thunderstorms. if you pick up the storms get ready for heavy, drenching downpours. some areas could see over 4 inches of rain in 40 minute time span. that's drenching rain. showers and storms likely, it's
