overnight. we may not be done just yet. plus the investigation begins into the nation's worst single hot air ploon crash. eagles -- balloon crash, and eagles nation turns out to get a first look at the birds. we're live. but first let's go outside to chris sowers with the forecast, we could have pop-up thunderstorms today. >> reporter: it's oppressively humid if you have not been outside, you know how muggy it's been over the last couple of days. the humidity is not going anywhere time soon. it will last tonight and tomorrow and we'll keep the showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for the next day 48 hours. down scan live we set it in motion, we're not seeing much in and around the philadelphia area. as you look toward the top of your screen you can see a cell out of hurt -- hunterdon county you're under a flash flood

warning until 3:15 p.m., doppler radar showing 5 inches of have fallen up in rariton and east ward. these recorded totals. phlegm -- flemming ton, 2 inches of rain. all that has fallen in 3 or four hours time span. that's a lot of rain in short period of time. temperatures in the mid 80s. you factor in the humidity, feels like the 90s. look at dover, feels like 101 in dover. incredible amounts of humidity. accuweather says the remainder of the afternoon, clouds and sun, humid, 89 degrees is the forecasted high. there is relief in the seven-day forecast, and i will let you know when it arrives when i see you in just a few minutes.

relief a good word to hear. as chris mentioned we could see heavy rain that caused damage yesterday into the overnight. take look at this, a tree snapped and fell on to a parked suv between 10th and 11th street on south street. there was nobody inside the suv at the time. police had to block off part of a road in strawberry mansion as trees and wires came tumbling down there. this happened on strawberry mansion drive. the free blocked travel on the strawberry mansion bridge. stay close to 6abc.com/weather look at what's on the way with double scan radar. our team of meteorologists will post the latest weather data and viewer pictures on their facebook pages. 12:03. 6 people remain in the hospital

after two accidents on the boulevard. this happened before 2:00 a.m. in the southbound lanes of roosevelt boulevard at fox street in the east falls section of philadelphia. several people were standing outside their cars after an accident when another car passing through the area hit 6 of them. the victims are in stable condition. there have been no charges filed. detectives are searching for two men following a shooting and attempted robbery in feltonville section. two men were standing on the porch late last night. they were approached by two men, one of whom demanded money, when he did not produce anything he was shot in the chest. the injured man was taken to einstein million center. a 76-year-old -- einstein medical center. a 76-year-old south jersey man is in critical, but stable condition after new jersey troopers went to his home and

shot him through the front door of his house. jerry sykes thought someone was trying to get into the home, he went to the front door with a shotgun. the troopers shot him four times in the chest. >> whiles the first response to -- why was the first response to pump four rounds through the door. >> his eyes got as big as saucers he said what? they were state troopers, they never gave me a warning, they shot me without a warning. >> sykes says after he collapsed he shot through the door and grazed one of the officers. the officer is doing okay. he said troops treated sykes like he was a criminal. he did not get medical treatment for 45 minutes. one woman is dead and four others injured after a shooting in austin, texas.

someone started shooting in the downtown entertainment district. three people had to go to the hospital, they are in serious, but stable condition. a 4th victim was not seriously injured and declined to go to the hospital. police looking for a suspect. federal investigators now confirm at least 16 people died in yesterday's hot air balloon crash near austin, texas. ntsb said investigators are trying to determine how many people were on the balloon. balloons do not file flight plans, so there might not be a passenger manifest. witnesses say the balloon collided with high tension lines. we'll have much more on the crash at 12:30. >> 12:06, here's the latest information on the controversy over donald trump's comments about a gold star father who criticized trump at the

democratic national convention. khan the son of a u.s. american captain killed by a suicide bomber in iraq said he appreciates be he called his son a hero, but does not believe he is a serious person. during his democratic national convention speech he said trump has never sacrificed anything. george stephanopoulos asked the quan -- candidate about that comment. >> reporter: what sacrifices have you made for your county. >> i've made many sacrifices,ive worked very, very hart and created tens of thousands of jobs. i've had tremendous success. >> reporter: those are sacrifices. >> after getting a lot of criticism for his comments, he tweeted this overnight, quote, captain khan who was killed 12 years ago was a hero, but this is a radical islamic terror and

extremely humid out here this afternoon making for very uncomfortable conditions. satellite and radar showing activity well north an east of philadelphia. actually that's the heavy rains that swept through during the morning. if you look toward the left around pittsburgh you see more showers and thunderstorms starting to flare up. there's a little disturbance out there, that will swing through during the afternoon hours, that means more showers and thunderstorms are possible. the pool forecast looks like, it's not a washout. as a matter of fact you'll have several dry hours in between the downpours, the problem when it rains it pours. clouds and sun, humid, 88 degrees around 1:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m., 86 with the humidity feeling like the low to mid 0s. one or two areas will pick up the downpours and you'll pick up

drenching rain in a short period of time. >> parts of the yairt got -- area got so much rain yesterday state of emergency was declared for a few hours, flooding close roads in west wind door township. and flooding hit the princeton train station. there were numerous calls to help people stranded by the high water. federal investigators are converging in central texas at the scene of the nation's deadliest hot air accident. 16 people were killed when the balloon hit power lines and plunged into the ground. elizabeth hur has more. >> reporter: this morning the hunt for answer intensifying at the country's worst hot air balloon crash ever. >> you could see all their

heads. there were lots of people in there. >> reporter: joe and others captured these pictures of the balloon flying low over a family land him minutes later, disaster leaving 16 people dead. >> first i heard a whoosh and then a big ball of fire up. >> all you could tell it was a fire, a big ball of flames. >> according to authorities, the balloon burst into flames saturday morning after possibly hitting power lines and plunging to the ground in lockhart, texas. >> we have a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. >> reporter: balloon operated by heart of texas balloon rides. this was a large balloon 8500 cubic meters meaning it could carry 16 people. so what went wrong, investigators say it's too soon for answers, but it was two

years ago safety investigators raised concerns calling for more regulation of the balloon tour industry, but the regulations were not increased by the faa. and you can bet officials will look to see if regulations were fold in this case, as well as check on weather conditions and the pilot's experience. elizabeth hur abc news, lockhatter, texas. flames gutted an ocean county store that's been in business for almost four decades. the fire started on anchor appliance on the 400 block of main street in west creek. the fire went to three-alarms and it took crews several hours to get a handle on it. it is unclear what started the fire. back in philadelphia, a 35-year-old man listed in critical condition after he was stabbed at a home in frankford early this morning. the action cam at the scene where the victim was stabbed in the leg around 3:20 a.m.

no arrests have been made. beginning tomorrow septa riders will not be able to buy tickets on regional rails departing philadelphia to the suburbs. they will have buy tickets before they get on the train. that is temporary because of the shortage of rail cars. overcrowded trains make it difficult to sell tickets on board. pennsylvania's new child seat cargoes into effect. children under age two are required to be in a rear-facing child safety seat in the back seat. for the first year police will issue verbal warnings, after that violations will carry fines of $125. life is about to change for somebody who bought a powerball
