tracking, this is crossing route one north of middletown and this has the potential for hail and wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour and this is moving southeast at 20 miles per hour into salem county, so port penn, harmonsville canton and bayside all in the path of the storm. we likely will see more popping up as we head through the evening hours. the problem is that we're coming off a weekend when some areas just getting inundated with rainier baltimore they had that deadly flooding, lancaster near trenton and lakehurst also, these are areas we have three to 6 inches of rain over the weekend so the ground is saturated so any additional rain could cause some flooding so a flash flood watch has been posted really for our northern suburbs overnight until 6 o'clock in the morning. this is because any downpours that could drop an additional one to 2-inches of rain in a short period of time could cause some flash flooding and you real dollar want to be very careful with the potential for flooding,

afternoon. the family was trying to get out of the storm and into their suv when little was struck while standing next to the vehicle. he died later at the hospital. it's a case of double murder. we know the name of one of the two people found dead and side an apartment complex in montgomery county. she's actually a long time resident. "action news" reporter sarah bloomquist live now in ambler where police have spent the day looking for clues that could help catch the killer. sarah. >> reporter: shar he re, this double murder here in ambler is really shocked this quiet community. family members to confirm that one of the victims was a 54-year-old single mother who shared an apartment here with her 19-year-old son. the district attorney is releasing very little information as investigators work to make an arrest. for most of the day yellow crime scene tape cordoned off the building here at the forest gardens apartments where two people were shot and killed late last night. kimberly trunk got a call at

2:00 a.m. that one of the victims was her sister 54-year-old janice trunk. we talked to her overnight shortly after she arrived at the scene, 125 forest avenue in ambler. >> she called me every day. we spoke every day a million times a day. she was a good sister. >> reporter: mid morning the coroner removed the body as friends and family gathered outside the complex to console one another and trying to figure out who would want to harm janice. by all accounts a hard working kind woman who worked at a diner in lansdale to support her 19-year-old son who shared the second floor apartment with her. friends said janice's boyfriend also stayed here frequently with the mother and son. >> i want to know who shot one of my best friends and why and where are they and, you know, to have them caught. >> reporter: police were called to the apartment shortly before midnight last night after neighbors heard the gunfire. many, however, didn't realize what had happened until this morning. ly. >> i didn't hear anything. we did not hear anything. i mean, we had fans on but we didn't hear anything.

it was no noise at all. >> reporter: early this morning policeed to a vehicle parked on forest avenue. kimberly said she last spoke with her sister around 8:30 last night and she seemed upbeat. >> she was my last living relative and if anybody knows anything, please, please let me know, let the police know. >> reporter: we do know that janice's son was taken into speak with investigators. we're awaiting additional details from the district attorney. live in ambler, i'm sarah bloomquist channel6 "action news." >> sarah, thank you. police could be one step closer to finding a driver who fired a gun during an apparent case of road rage. the bullet hit the hood of a silver car on knights road in northeast philadelphia. the 19-year-old driver said a man in a cadillac srx cut him off at about 7 o'clock last night. the two argued before the cadillac driver fired one shot then took off onto 95. police now believe they have the license plate number from

the suspect vehicle. a 76-year-old man shot by new jersey troopers is getting better this afternoon at a hospital. gerald sykes was shot when state police responded to a 911 call early saturday but ended up at the wrong house in deerfield township. sykes said he noticed people outside and believed intruders were breaking in so he grabbed his shot gun. one trooper fired hitting sykes three times. sykes also fired his shot gun. it is not clear who shot first right now. "action news"'s walter perez will have an update on this investigation tonight at 5:00. >> if you ride septa's regional rail you surely noticed some big changes. passengers leaving philadelphia are no longer allowed to buy tickets on board trains during certain hours. so, here's was need to know. between 3:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., passengers must show their tickets or passes before boarding. this is happening right now for the very first time, all fares will be collected or validated before a customer

can even get to the platform area at temple jefferson, suburban, 30th street and university city. septa says it's been receiving complaints about people getting free rides because conductors haven't been having enough time to check all of the tickets on overcrowded trains. >> because it was our passengers who complained to septa about the fact that some of the passengers weren't paying. so, it came to us from our riders because there's so many people on our trains that the conductors can't get on the train and off the train safely and collect fares at the same time. >> now, this is all temporary. it is a new situation that's part of septa's work around as it deals with the loss of more than 100 rail cars that have been grounded as you know by that structural defect that's been causing a lot of delays. septa says it's working on a fix. it hopes to have its full fleet back up and running this fall but in the meantime if you ride the regional rail just know certain hours before the day you do need to have

your ticket before you get on the train. sharrie. >> alicia thanks. a bear has popped up in a popular park in delaware county. now wildlife officials are trying to catch it before anyone gets hurt. "action news" reporter jeanette reyes has details now live in upper providence township. hi, jeanette. >> reporter: hi, shar he re. a lot of residents are on the lookout for this bear. it was spotted first over the weekend along providence road not too far from where i'm standing, but police are more concerned about what curious residents might do when they see the bear than what the bear might do to them. >> i was kind of excited about it. i thought it was kind of cool. >> reporter: there's an unexpected guest in town roaming the streets of this upper providence township neighborhood near ridley creek state park. dana pounds says she thinks it may be why her dog has been acting strangely lately. >> when we were first told the next day i kind of walked the whole farm to see if there was fences down because we were told it was coming this way from gradyville.

>> reporter: local police say they've confirmed a bear sighting reported friday night just north of gradyville road at providence road. >> surprised i would say. i don't believe that it's all that uncommon for a bear to be in this area. however, it is close to their mating season and they can travel quite some distance so most likely the bear is coming down here to mate. >> reporter: chief david montello says the news has been spreading like wildfire among residents but he's hoping people are sharing what not to do if they come across the glare if they're feeding or cubs are around it could become aggressive. it's well known and documentd that bears are not very aggressive towards people. if left alone most of the time they're going to walk around but we would rather err on the side of caution and just tell out in to approach it. >> reporter: pound says capture the moment but use your common sense. >> don't feed it. it's not the bear. you wouldn't go up to any wild animal. >> probably don't try to take

over here in the inner drive. you can see police and penndot are still on the scene, so you're going to tap the brakes as you come away from the girard point bridge and head toward delco but it's not an awful situation at this point. also have a crash on the northbound side of route one as you head toward bucks county and toward the pennsylvania turnpike. it's northbound at southampton road in the inner drive. there are restrictions there and just single digit speeds coming north of woodhaven as a result. and we've had a couple accidents this afternoon here in that mount laurel along 295 northbound. still one on the side here approaching route 73 but you can see that's not causing a huge delay at the moment. southbound delay on 295 is just starting to kick in. and alicia just told us about the fare collection changes that just started over an hour ago on the septa regional rails. plan to we have plenty of delays cropping up already and a little bit of good news. on the lansdale doylestown 39 there's a 5:30 straight that will express from temple. let's do the commuter report

they say the suspects approached two victims including a 14-year-old boy and then pulled a gun. they forced both victims to empty their pockets then they made the 14-year-old go he to an atm. the suspects took the money as well as phones from both victims and then ran off. no one was hurt. >> the centers for disease control has issued a travel warning urging pregnant women to avoid zika stricken part of miami. the warning comes as florida's governor says as many as 14 people have been infected with this virus through mosquito bites. the cdc says it will deploy an emergency steam to help florida combat the spread of zika by controlling the mosquito population. the governor there implored residents to help out. >> standing water in your house, no standing water around your house. these mosquitos are not mosquitos that fly a long distance. the way it's explained to me they're not active biters. >> the governor scott said

there are 400 zika cases statewide. the vast majority of them, though, were contracted abroad. >> more prominent republicans are condemning donald trump for criticizing the parents of a muslim soldier who was killed in iraq. the republican presidential nominee just spoke in columbus, ohio, but did not specifically mention his feud with the khan familiar. he did say he has tremendous support from america's veterans. just hours, though, after the nation's most prominent veterans group condemned him for his comments. >> i know the vets. i think i have tremendous supporter with the vets. raised a lot of money and gave a lot of money to the vets. i will tell you something. >> trump also tried to clarify his comments on russia. over the weekend, he told abc news that putin is not going into ukraine even though he russian troops are currently there. today he said he meant that an invasion would not happen under his watch. >> well, it is philadelphia's

first mormon temple a striking massive new structure at the corner of 17th and vine streets. today the doors opened for the very first time as the media got a sneak peek inside this palatial structure complete with two soaring spires. from crystal chandeliers to tapestries it appears that no expense was spared crafting this pretty impressive temple that is made completely of granite. now, this is a look at the baptistry. local history and design was considered when that constructing when they officially call the philadelphia, pennsylvania, temple. >> specifically they he studied independence hall, christchurch and the franklin institute and have incorporated design elements into this temple which reflects georgian architecture. really it's like taking a step back into the world of the founding father when you come into the philadelphia temple. >> this church will serve

roughly 45,000 local members of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints. right now the closest temples were in new york city and in washington, d.c. now, if you want to go check it out and get a look inside, you should know this. public tours are running from august 10th through september 9th except ton sundays. after it is officially dedicated on september 18th, the church will only be opened to church members in good standing. now, there's no word on how much was spent constructing this but i know that those tours are booking up with people wandering to ge wanting k inside. >> thank you alicia. >> it is time for a check of the accuweather forecast. >> let's send it over to cecily tynan as we track these showers moving in cecily. >> that's right, brian and sharrie and right now we do have some downpours, mainly across kent county delaware and cumberland county, new jersey, and they are packing a pretty good punch.

this kind of broken cell moving through bayside, cedarville, it's heading towards mauricetown and it's all very slowly sinking down to the southeast and this does have some very heavy downpours and the fact is that we do have some very high humidity levels. actually i want to go back to that graphic and this is what is causing the heavy downpours. you can see another cell that's heading towards dover really riding right along route eight and the atmosphere is ripe for those heavy downpours. it feels like a rainforest out there. the dewpoints most of our viewing area above 70 degrees. in dover the dewpoint, that's about as high as it gets in this region, 82 degrees. so, any of the showers can pull down a lot of rain in a short period of time. it's not the heat, though, it's the humidity. temperature-wise it's actually relatively cool out there. philadelphia is 77. allentown the same. trenton 76. it is warmer down to the south. dover 82. millville 80 and cape may p point currently 80 degrees. satellite6 along with action

radar showing the activity is scattered. it's not all that organized so it's one of the situations not everyone will get the downpours but this very slow moving low pressure is sinking down to the south. so, there's nothing to really steer the storm. so, they can develop and they can sit there for awhile. so, this is what to expect into tonight. some downpours, again, they will be slow moving and this means we could get a quick one to 3 inches of rain in a short period of time. can cause some localized flash flooding. that's why we have those flash flood watches posted north of philadelphia until 6 o'clock tomorrow morning and areas to the south where it's warmer and the dewpoints are lier, this is where we could be seeing some gusty thunderstorms. so, future tracker showing as we head through the evening hours around 7 o'clock we still have some activity across the lehigh valley, south jersey and delaware heading overnight we'll still see he some across the northwest suburbs and an overnight tonight lots of clouds early tomorrow morning a few scattered showers but generally we will be drying things out as we head into the

afternoon with some peeks of sunshine. the humidity levels will still be pretty high tomorrow. but then they will be dropping as we head into wednesday. in the meantime, it is hurricane season and a hurricane hunter will be flying into this to investigate. you can see this wave that's heading towards jamaica. it's really starting to get organized and the national hurricane center is giving it an 80 percent chance of becoming tropical storm earl bringing jamaica and the cayman islands some very heavy rain. no threat, though, to the u.s. so, the four day at 4:00 showing tomorrow it stays on the humid side. morning clouds, some late breaks of sunshine. could have a morning shower as well with a high of 82 degrees. wednesday the pick of the week. a breath of fresh air. low humidity, comfortable temperatures, good amount of sunshine, 84. thursday also looking pretty good. seasonably warm, 86 degrees but friday the humidity begins to creep back up. 88 degrees and next weekend looks like it's going get hot for one of the days and it will get stormy as well.

>> folks who live to the west of here in the bedroom communities of exton and downingtown who commute to great valley and king of prussia. >> no, i believe it when i see it but i'll be happy when it happens. >> reporter: skeptical commuters reacting to the news that the widening of route 202 is just about complete. it's been going on for years. >> facing a nightmare. for the most part i've tried to avoid it. luckily for me i've got about two different ways to get to the office. >> reporter: this is a truckload of guardrails construction crews down to the final details along the last two and a half miles of what's been a bigger project that stretches more than 6 miles to king of prussia. the price tag for the entire stretch a quarter billion

dollars. what taxpayers get is a six rather than four-lane highway that will increase vehicle capacity penndot says. >> basically it improves traffic flow not only for the residents but also for major businesses that are located along the corridor. >> reporter: the six lanes will alleviate congestion between great valley and traffic coming to and from exton and downingtown but commuters who continue south now expect trouble south of the route 30 bypass where 202 narrows. this man is from delaware. >> all they're doing is moving the checkpoint down, that's all. and i've been doing this commute for three yearsism you're not looking forward to it. >> i'm not looking forward to it at all. >> reporter: well, not good news for that gentleman, that's for sure no plans at this point to widen 202 beyond the current section that's now wrapping up. the plan is weather permitting they should have the final lanes, those widened lanes opened sometime next week. there is a ceremonial ribbon cutting set for nexty

august 12th i should say friday a week august 12th. live in east white land township, john rawlins channel6 "action news." sharrie. >> all right, i'm sure they're thinking the sooner the better. thanks, john. in the meantime police are investigating a deadly shooting in the tacony section of philadelphia. just before 5 o'clock a 28-year-old man was found shot once in the head. this happened in the 5700 block of keystone street. the victim was pronounced dead there at the scene. police do not yet know who shot him or why. well, these are the two former temple university police officers allegedly involved in a germantown murder. police say aaron wright admitted to beating his girlfriend joyce to death. her body was found friday inside of a home along the 4600 block of green street. investigators say marquis robinson was also there during there attack. law a temple officer at the time but has since been fired. wright resigned in 2012. >> there's a new effort under

way to prevent any more shootings involving children and guns in philadelphia. in june we told you about a four-year-old girl who found her mother's boyfriend's gun in a closet and accidentally shot and killed herself in north philadelphia. both adults are facing charges. that case and other similar tragedies inspired authorities to give out free gun locks today. >> it will prevent a small child from getting mom's boyfriend's gun and shooting his cousin's brains out. >> now, officials announced the gun lock give away at temple university hospital. it's part of a recent city law requiring safe storage of guns in homes where children live. the locks will be available tonight at fairhill square park between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and at rose playground between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. >> let's talk about the weather. meteorologist cecily tynan for adam. not a lot of sun out there. a lot of clouds and rain.

>> a lot of clouds and you step outside you can really feel the moisture in the air so it's ready to unleash with real heavy downpours. let's go live on sky6. this is actually looking southeast from the city and you can see those ominous dark clouds really filling up with moisture. the temperature, not that bad. 77 degrees. it's on the cool side but then you look at that dewpoint, the dewpoint is 71 so that's oppressive. we've got that tropical air mass in place and with it we are seeing some heavy downpours, especially right now across parts of delaware and cumberland county and crossing the mouth of the delaware bay. you can see how slowly they're moving and with the slow movement they can drop a lot of rain in a short period of time and wider showing that they're more on the -- there are more on the way. we've got a batch that's heading from scranton and then that's across central pennsylvania. it's all very slowly moving to the east so that's why we do have those flash flood watches posted for our northern suburbs. i'll talk more about the timing of the downpours and when relief is on the way and we do have lower humidity in the seven-day forecast. i'll talk more about when coming up in a few minutes.

>> okay, sounds good, cecily. thank you. >> smoke and flames left significant damage inside of a house in mercer county, new jersey. the fire broke out along the 300 block of south johnston avenue in hamilton township late last night. no word yet on what sparked the flames but no one was hurt. philadelphia police are hoping someone might recognize these three men. they're wanted for an armed robbery. the 19-year-old victim told police he was walking along the 1500 block of norris street in north philadelphia when the men approached him. one of them held a gun to his shoulder and then demanded that he hand over his cell phone. the victim refused but that's when one of the suspects grabbed it and then they all took off from the scene. >> new numbers show the trampoline park business is booming but the risks they pose to park goers is steadily increasing as well. monica malpass live in the news room with the details she's gathering on this right now. hi, monica. >> hi, brian, that's right. it's a troubling trend

>> officials are surveying the damage from this weekend's devastating floods in maryland. the storms washed out much of historic ellicott city 14 miles west of baltimore. six and a half inches of rain fell saturday night. well, this aerial view shows just how widespread the damage is. two people lost their lives but many more were rescued. senator barbara mikulski toured the area today praising the bravery of the rescuers. >> i would also like to compliment the first responders for the brave way there they came in to do the crucial rescue and then for the people who did things like formed a human chain. i tell you, it really shows that the people here have such grit. >> well, the senator and governor larry hogan are working on a request for federal assistance for the recovery which could cost hundreds of millions of dollars. a deadly hot air balloon

disaster is prompting new safety concerns about the popular pastime. 16 people died over the weekend when the balloon that they were riding in hit some power lines burst into flames and then crashed into a field. group had taken off justtside . federal investigators are hoping cell phones cameras and ipads that were found at the scene will help them piece together a time line. they are also interviewing witnesses and the grounds crew today. >> united states is expanding its fight against isis abroad. we learned today that american r planes have launched airstrikes against that group in northern libya at libya's request. the pentagon says president obama also authorized those strikes after a recommendation from defensery ash carter and the joint chiefs of staff. u.s. ground forces are not expected to be involved. president obama spoke to veterans in atlanta this afternoon.

fortescue and you can see how they're kind of just sitting there. we've had 31 lightning strikes the past 15 minutes. some of them come with gusty winds but the main threat are the heavy downpours. so, we can flip this over and we can show the rainfall rates and where you see that purple color, that is rain falling at the rate of about 3-inches or more an hour. so, this does have a potential for flash flooding especially areas north of philadelphia that got lit with three to 6 inches of rain over the weekend. so the national weather service has now extended the flash flood watch for our northern suburbs until 6 o'clock tomorrow morning. so, this includes berks montgomery bucks mercer counties, the lehigh valley and the poconos. we could get another quick one to 2 inches of rain and the fact that the ground is saturated that can cause some flash flooding. temperature-wise though, the humidity is high but the temperatures aren't. we have winds out of the northeast so that's capping temperatures in the 70's. philadelphia 77. the same in allentown.

wilmington 78. trenton 76. and the atlantic city airport currenting 78 degrees. so, satellite6 along with action radar showing you can see some of this activity is bubbling up and i'm really tracking this scattered line of some storms developing near harrisburg. this will gradually continue to work to the east and that will bring us the potential for more gusty downpours as we head through the evening hours. so, the next 12 hours very unsettled this evening. the activity will begin to taper off after midnight. not everyone will get the storms but those who do will get a our, so do be

to strike over the delaware valley through tonight. monday night, rick is off tonight, brian taff joins us and the big story on "action news" is that heavy rain that we could be in store for this evening. >> that's right. right now parts of our viewing area are under a flash flood watch. meteorologist cecily tynan keeping a close eye on storm tracker6 right now live at the big board with the forecast. cecily. >> and brian and monica, we are seeing some heavy drenching downpours beginning to pop up especially across parts of delaware and south jersey. i've been tracking this one cell that's really been expanding over the past hour. it extends from kent county, delaware, into cumberland county, fortescue right now, we've had 38 lightning strikes in the past 15 minutes but really the main problem with these downpours, the heavy rain, the rain falling there at the rate of about 3-inches per hour. and the pennsylvania 400 was rescheduled in the poconos from yesterday to earlier today and the race is done
