when the flight landed at dubai airport. huge plumes of smoke billowing into the sky and onlookers in disbelief and then moments later -- an explosion, the boeing 777 triple shoots deployed after all on board safely evacuated. emergency personnel rushing in to put out the smoke and flames. this man whose wife was on board the flight says he spoke to her an hour before the flight arriving. >> my wife called me an hour before, that they were landing. >> the jet liner was traveling from india to dubai with 282 passengers and 18 crew on board and the flight path appears completely normal -- and through all the chaos on the runway, remarkably officials from emirates say that there were no

fatalities. the main priority was for those concerned family members and friends of the passengers irk the airline says they have dedicated telephone lines active for family members and we learn that the ntsb is sending officials to the crash site in order to assist with this investigation. more developments coming later on. live in new york for channel 6 "action news." >> ray, thank you. new jersey senate president just called for an investigation into the leadership of the state's largest teacher's union. steve sweeney, says that the knowledge education associate threatened to withhold campaign donations this cycle. they want lawmakers to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot concerning state pension payments and they say it's essentially bribery to use campaign donations. they are reaching out to the

union for a response but they planned a protest outside of sweeney's office today. nora muchanic will have more on this story in a live report at 12:30. republican officials are reportedly preparing for the worst when it comes to this year's race for the white house. top leaders in the gop are growing more and more frustrated with nominee, donald trump's behavior, so frustrated they are exploring how to replace him in the november ballot if he drops out. and trump tweeted this morning that unity is better than ever before. hillary clinton, the democratic nominee for president will tour a denver based factory this afternoon and hold a rally in denver tonight. we are hearing from a police officer that ran toward a burning car to save an

unconscious driver. katherine scott is live now in the logan section. >> reporter: the police commissioner says this is the type of work that officers do every day and often goes unheralded. he had bumps and bruises and facial injuries but he is alive. >> i saw what looked like a fire ball. >> joel rice was returning from northwest detectives at midnight when he came across this wreckage on broad street. the mangled dodge charger had crashed seconds earlier. hitting a median and then hitting a parked van and the charger caught fire. >> i noticed flames were accumulating in the engine department and rising up the windshield. >> officer rice also noticed the 47-year-old driver was sprawled across the front seat unconscious, he knew he had to get the driver out through an

open window he was able to open the door and around that time a passing private ambulance company stopped. >> with their help i pulled the male out of the front seat of the car as the flames were growing. >> neighbors watched in har or as the flames grew, many came running after they heard the impact. >> i heard a big crash and came out and a car was on fire. >> the impact was very, very intense because there was no breaking. >> the van is totalled but what is important is that the officer was able to pull the driver out. >> more than luck, it's god send. >> he spoke to officer rice and praised his action. >> officer rice aced heroically and can't say enough about him. he saved the driver's life. >> they have not said how the driver lost control of the

vehicle. >> katherine, thank you. turning to accuweather, the forecast is looking up we have sunny skies and low humidity as we look live outside at penn's landing it's nice out there. meteorologist, david murphy, joins us from the terrace with the latest conditions. >> considering how sticky it has been in general over the last several weeks, sunshine across the region and cloud cover over to the east by the shore. over philadelphia not a lot going on and over all we do expect it to maintain sunny conditions the rest of the way. maybe a passing cloud here or there. 80 in philadelphia and the temperature has zoomed a bit under the sun. 78 in wilmington. and 76 in trenton and 79 in allentown and comfortable if are you out there working or exerting yourself you'll want to keep cool drinks handy and dress appropriately as it is still getting warm. with the lower humidity it's a lot more comfortable, check out the dew points, down in the

comfortable too with lower humidity. 80 degrees is the current temperature in philadelphia. your dew point down to 60. that is where we begin to talk about humid air. really feeling a lot better over the last several days and maybe the last three or four weeks. winds from the east at 8 miles per hour, so breezy at times but not much of a breeze. 76 in reading and 78 in wilmington and 76 in trenton and philadelphia is a warmer spot at noon. 79 at a.c. and 77 in millville. not humid, everywhere outside of dover. satellite shows you cloud cover trying to well up west of the mountains and maybe some of that fair weather cumulous pops through at times. it looks like the center of the cloud cover as well to the west. we wind up mostly sunny in the afternoon. less humid too, 81 degrees is the high today. still warm enough across the region to keep the cool drinks

going and with the humidity it feels so much better, mostly sunny and breezy and ocean temperature in the mid-70s. that is a nice temperature there, 84 is your high and mostly sunny and much lower humidity and winds from the east at 5 to 10 miles per hour. not really all that strong. if you have tickets from the phillies tonight from a weather standpoint you picked the pick of the week, low humidity and 79 for the first pitch and 79 in the first inning, that is the best it gets at citizens bank park and last night they lit it up with double digit runs. clear and comfortable overnight and down to a comfy 65 for an overnight low and some out lies suburbs could get close toward 60. that is pretty nice and a great evening to go out on the town or walk the dog or whatever you want. and tomorrow is a repeat, high pressure is farther to the east and we may get a breeze coming down from the northeast and 4-degrees and low humidity and

the njea, the new jersey education association asking the u.s. attorney and the state attorney general. here is one of the letters here. asking them to investigate saying that the njea is conspiring to corrupt public officials. sweeney promised to host a bill to put on a constitutional amendment to ramp upstate payments to the pension fund. sweeney has not done that yet because he is trying to figure out the funding for the transportation fund that is going broke. at least two have made phone calls to the top democrats, if that bill doesn't get posted the njea will not give contributions until next year he is outraged by this. >> the threats by public employee unions to withhold
