tonight amid atlantic city's longest union strike the trump taj mahal is set to fold and close for good. wednesday night, jim is off, i'm monica malpass. the big story on "action news" is a casino going bust. nearly 3,000 people will be out of their jobs. and dann cuellar live outside of the taj with the end of an era. how has it come to this? >> well, monica, a devastating blow to atlantic city. a city already on the bridge of bankruptcy. seeing another casino shutting down. a shocking development for workers that will soon be joining others in the unemployment lines. >> good luck everybody, do well. >> 26 years ago donald trump opened the massive taj mahal casino in atlantic city to great fanfare costing over $1 billion

to build. >> a hotel never like anything like this built. i am not just talking about in atlantic city. >> but now, under new principle coner the union workers on strike since july 1 on a dispute on health care and pension payments. benefits stripped away last october as part after bankruptcy order. and tropicana entertainment said it was shutting down after labor day. and in a statement the c.e.o. says currently the taj losing millions a month. now with the strike we see no path of profitability. the workers' union boss with a different take. >> he has decided to take his ball and go home this is playground bullying tactics. >> the shutdown leaving 2500 cooks, housekeepers, bellmen, cocktail servers and others without jobs. >> shocking it would come to this. we've been served three warrant notices before within tension of closing, and we had no idea it could come now. >> in we don't work our

police say he was under the influence. the 33-year-old driver lost control of his car, crossed a lawn and slammed into this house in the 6400 block of algon avenue near hellerman street about 7:00 p.m. l&i responding, the house with structural cracks. fortunately, no one there at the time, the driver with only minor scrapes and bruises. tragedy on the track tonight in yeadon, delaware county. a person struck and killed along the line about 10:00 p.m. between the yeadon and algo gog -- algora station. and london investigating a stabbing spree and whether it was a terrorist attack. attacking killing one woman. not disclosing the situation of

the other victim. it happened in russell square not far from the famous british museum. this is the same day that london showed who have the new anti-terrorism police force comprised of 600 heavily-armed officers. that san unusual sight for the country's normally restrained police. these officers will be highly visible across the british capital. the authorities say the operation is not based on a known plot, but the risk of an attack in the u.k. they say is a matter of "when not if", two shootings in the middle of the street in less than a week. innocent motorists are getting caught in the middle. the latest happened tonight. and bob is live at central detectives and you talked to the latest victim, didn't you? >> i did. this guy driving home from work and the neck -- next thing a bullet into his car and into the

spot where he normally seats his kids. the bullet caused this hole, if it was in a little different direction who knows where it would have ended up. luckily lodged in the back seat of the car. the man driving didn't want his face on camera. but he told us how he was almost killed tonight, caught in the middle of crossfire. >> the first instinct to duck and i got out of the way until the police came? a father of two driving home from work. he knows his children could have been back there. >> my kids get dropped off sometimes at work. what if they were in the car with me? clearly went right in the back of my car and we would be talking about a whole another situation tonight. >>the scene of shoot-out at 20th street and cecil b. moore. a four-versus-four scenario between males. and an officer pulled up at the right moment when three men pulled out guns shooting at each other. aaron taylor works at the salon on the corner. how many gun shots? >> eight, nine.

it was wild. >> to make it worse, look at this, this is a daycare in the scene of the shooting that i am told was open there were children inside when it happened. luckily, none of the bullets struck there. >> a lot of kids, so it is pretty crazy the gunshots going off at that. >> somehow the officer pulling up to the scene caught another shooter. the other shooter dropped the gun and left it on the street. at this point, no word of anyone being shot. but the driver of the car caught between it all says he knows he could have been easily killed. >> guys like me are trying to drive home from work. you know, i like working down here. i love serving the community. >> back out live, very fortunate that none of the bullets went into the daycare. you can see in the video there were children inside. and as it stands now, two gunmen are on the loose. if you know where they are or anything about them, immediately call the police. reporting live for channel 6

"action news." >> thank you. >> a similar situation happened to a germantown father last week with deadly results. 25-year-old alsharay ford in a facebook photo picked up his 3-year-old daughter from daycare driving through a gunbattle on the street. >> and he turns and actually giving the phone to his daughter saying mommy wants to talk to you. at that exact moment the bullet strikes him in the head. if he is not leaning that way over the counsel to reach back and give her the phone it may have struck her. >> this happened in the 5100 block of germantown avenue last thursday. the girl is physically unharmed, but we are told she is of course, traumatized after seeing her dad shot. her mother is, too, hearing the whole shooting while on the phone call. the police asking anyone with information about the gunman to please come forward. septa is trying to get its rail service back on track but

it is going to be costly. thes transit agency hopes to start returning some of the silver line are cars to the stormtracker the week of august 21st. returning about 10 cars a time. septa hopes to have the full fleet operating by november 6. in the meantime, between losing riders, overtime costs and other factors, it is costing septa $600,000 a month. and by labor day that number will be up to $1 million a month. vice-president joe biden back in philadelphia tonight to receive an award for his leadership of the white house initiative on cancer research. the vice-president accepted the atlas award from the world affairs council of philadelphia. >> there is nothing we said we can't do, november. -- never. we have lost a little bit that mojo as a country. it is with our wheelhouse.

>> and also tonight they present said its inaugural young friends atlas award to the son-in-law of 6 abc news president and general manager. and the philadelphia police looking for four teens who assaulted an 11-year-old boy and forced him to strip at gunpoint. this is it a picture of one of the suspects. veinvestigators say he was mourning the teens who spotted hill on a place ground and paced him and one of the teens pulled out a gun making that little boy take off his clothes. they then took a picture of him and beat him up. >> it is a very disturbing act. bullying beyond for these teenagers to do it to an 11-year-old child. >> it happened on july 12. if you have any information, please, the police want to hear from you.

bill cosby wants a phone call that he made thrown out of court before his trial in montgomery county. and he called on tape describing the sexual encounter with her daughter in 2004 in graphic terms. cosby's lawyers say the call violates pennsylvania's wire tap laws, but constand's lawyers say they followed canadian law.
